Here's a public service announcement for being vigilant about checking the bills you have on auto-pay: Today I logged into my Hino Electric account to check on my bill and see my monthly usage. The amount due was showing as $505.26. On a one bedroom apartment! I called and was on hold for a long time, only to be told it was a typo on their end. My ESIID Charge should have been $4.19 but whoever entered it incorrectly typed $431.13. Come on- 3 and 9 are not even close to each other on the keyboard. Plus, $4.19 is three digits while $431.13 is five digits. As soon as my contract is up, I'm switching companies. Although I have been happy with their low rates for nearly 3 years, I cannot accept a mistake of this scale. Gross negligence like this can have devastating consequences. What if I didn't have enough in my account to cover it when it debited the amount? Check your accounts! A small human error can have a big impact. UPDATE: I checked my credit card statement last week when I went to pay the bill (a few days early) and they ended up charing me the full $500+ dollars even though they said it was their mistake and they would remove the charge! I wish I had logged in to check it sooner, but 16 days had passed since our conversation. I went round and round with customer service who assured me I had been issued a $431.13 credit on my account. You don't overcharge a customer HUNDREDS of dollars then instead of fixing that issue before posting the charge (8 days AFTER I initially spoke to them) post a credit to the account. The woman told me the credit would allow me to not have to make payments for the next several months. My contract is up in 1 month. Completely unethical. It's basically like I gave them a $500 interest-free loan. Long story short, they were unwilling to charge back my credit card until 5-7 "processing days" had passed. This would mean an additional $500 would have sat as a balance on my credit card across a billing cycle. And of course, I could accumulate interest on that. I called my bank and disputed the charge as fraudulent. Since it had been more than 15 days since I initially spoke to Hino, my bank was able to contact them and get it taken care of within minutes. read more

This place is Horrible. They have systems that will never work correctly, or tell you the correct balance on your account. Which leaves you guessing if you have any money on your account or what your being told is even correcrt. They lie to you, they lie about the charges, They lie about the system they use and they WILL refer you to the website that DOES NOT WORK. Sooo your guess is better that there system. Worst company every..do not trust them. Our credit card was stolen and they charged us $45 fee because the auto wasnt updated in time. Who does this...1) you do not get charged for denied credit card charges 2) have some freaking sympathy. when customers credit card information is stolen and a new credit card is required. $15 fee during the switch-over period just bit me on the butt too... Not impressed. I called to talk it over and see if they'd reverse the fee. No dice. I told them that they were kicking their customer on the way in the door... Unwise business practice. I will remember this come renewal time. I also told them I'd complain online. Check. As others have posted, Hino Electric also chose my switchover date 1 day before my meter read and hit me with a $14.95 'minimum usage' charge on my first bill. When I contacted them, I was provided the following in email: "The TDU determines your meter read cycle. Hino Electric has no control over your meter read cycle. You chose the switch date. Attached is a record of your transaction and the terms you chose. The EFL and TOS state that a minimum usage fee will apply to any billing cycle less than 500 kWh including the first incomplete billing cycle. Copies of the EFL and TOS are available by clicking on the links of your receipt of your transaction which is below." It's obvious that this is intentional as they put this exact wording in their TOS. To discourage you from choosing a date on the new cycle, they require a $17 fee to choose your own switch date. Oh well, it's $15 to me which isn't going to break me, but it will ensure that I post reviews discouraging other potential customers from signing up, will post on my Neighborhood Facebook page, and will report this to the PUC and BBB as well. It will cost them much more than the $15 in the long run. As I told them, win with integrity, not deception. read more

Company is going out of business and is trying to force customers to use Cirro Energy. I dumped them several years ago as they were an awful company. They need to release customers from contracts and let them pick. read more

I have the exact same problem as Gary M. Hino socked me with a minim usage fee for only 4 days of electricity and then blamed CenterPoint Energy. On top of that, they charged me $5 when I called to ask why they did it. Needless to say, I have filed a complaint with the PUC and the BBB. The crooks at Hino are going to have to earn that $20. read more

Beware of Hino Electric Power gotcha charges, I recently signed up with Hino for electric service to my home based on their low rates. I didn't think the minimum usage fee would ever apply to me since I use way more electricity than they require every month. Well, as a welcome to our service first contact they charged me a $14.95 fee for not using the minimum usage after 2 days of service. Their customer service response was we don't control the meter reading dates so gotcha. You would think they would want to show some appreciation for getting a new customer but they could care less when they can stick you for some extra fees. I am signed up for 12 months so we will see how they do going forward. read more

They set the contract date to end one day after my monthly reading was done. Therefore I got a 25 dollar fee for "minimum usage" for my next "months" bill which I also got my first month due to a similar deal, my reading only being about 15 days long. They know what they are doing. I was only with them for 3 months because their prices blew my away. The price advertised was based on a certain amount of usage which we never hit (we were downsizing to an apartment and could only guess what we would use". Therefore our bill was always higher than we originally anticipated, plus the 2 minimal usage charges. Overall a terrible experience. read more
