The staff attitudes/friendliness vary wildly from overly giddy to aloof to downright confrontational. After a few visits, we were sent an invitation to do an online survey, which I filled out. I graded them poorly in one area because I think it is odd/ridiculous that a service provider would only schedule followup appointments between 9 and noon, which is a time that 95% of their clients (kids) are unavailable (in school). I'm aware of many orthos in other areas that have early morning/evening/weekend appts, for these visits, which is much more customer friendly. A few days after the survey, we started getting calls from the office. Each time, we were not available to take the call. This led to a phone-tag thing that over a few weeks consisted of 10 calls. Since they don't have voicemail at the office, I asked someone to take a message. They refused. So I asked for an email address. They refused. So then I posted a note on their Facebook page, asking them to kindly stop calling. The calls ended. A few weeks later, my wife took the kid in for an adjustment. My wife was asked to come back to the treatment area, which was unusual. Once in the room with our daughter, one of their staffers verbally attacked my wife. "What's the deal with you posting on Facebook?!? " Etc. My wife was shocked and totally unaware of anything, since I had handled the survey and subsequent phone calls. Especially concerning was the fact that our daughter was in the room and completely embarrassed. After composing herself, my wife stopped the staffer's rant, returned to the front desk and asked to see the manager. Once sitting down with the practice manager, my wife explained the situation. The manager apologized profusely and said the staffer was inappropriate and would be reprimanded. The problem here is that with braces, you can't really just change providers mid-stream. So we are forced to maintain a relationship with this office, even though we all cringe at the thought of visiting this facility. My wife now refuses to step foot in the place. This week, we had a return visit for another adjustment. No problems this time.

But, a friend recommended Derksen Dentistry, and after some extensive (read: borderline obsessive) research, I decided to take the plunge. I needed an advanced root canal and figured, why not throw in a cleaning while I'm at it? The first thing that set the tone was my call to Susan. She was so calming and reassuring that I felt like I was calling a life coach, not a dentist's office. She promised me they'd make my visit as relaxing as possible, which is a tall order when you're about to face down a drill and some sharp objects in your mouth. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted (on time, too, which felt like an anomaly in itself). The assistant was super helpful, constantly checking in with me during the x-rays, which was nice since I was pretty sure my mouth was about to go on strike from all the poking. Then came Dr. Derksen. Now, I'm not the type to buy into "auras" or anything, but this guy had an aura of, "Hey, I've got this. You can relax." I felt it. He triple-checked to make sure I was completely numb before starting the root canal--because apparently, "feeling your teeth getting drilled" is not on anyone's bucket list. The whole process went smoothly, and to my surprise, I didn't leave feeling like I'd just fought a battle with a power tool. What really sealed the deal was that they followed up the next day to check on me. I mean, where else do you get a dentist who cares enough to make sure you're not secretly plotting your revenge on him for the trauma? Long story short, I walked out of Derksen Dentistry with all my teeth intact and a new, surprisingly positive outlook on dental visits. We called in ahead of time and gave them the insurance information. My wife needed her wisdom teeth removed. They told us our insurance covers that. Great. So my wife went in and got the procedure done. Everything seemed super. Then... we got the bill. It was something like $400 - $500!! I'm like... what? Called them up and they're like, yeah, your insurance doesn't cover extractions. I told them that we verified this beforehand and you told us that they do cover extractions. She admitted that she said that and said she was just wrong. I'm OK, so what are you going to do about it? She's like... well, nothing, you have to pay. I'm like listen, you told me the price of the procedure up front. There were no complications and no extra charges. You can't just change the price on me by like $400 and just expect me to pay. We talked to her, her manager, etc. etc. Nobody was willing to understand. At the least, I expected to pay a reduced amount. That was my thought. It was your mistake, but I'm a reasonable guy. If the insurance is not going to pay you anything, then maybe we can split the difference. Nothing... no cooperation at all. I didn't want to deal with collections and risk my credit, so I just paid it. However, I will never go back and I will tell people I know about what they did.

First, his office rocks because they take Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. Second, I was unsure of what to expect, so I logged onto yelp RIGHT before my appt and saw all the five star reviews. Wheew. I felt a bit relieved. Third, my own experience was great. I was seen promptly. Everyone here is nice and they seem to enjoy working here (which is a HUGE plus). My xrays were taken and I found out they were digital so they could immediately see them on the computer screen! So high tech!! After the xrays, I saw the assistant wipe down everything for sanitation purposes. EXCELLENT!!! In case you are wondering, he graduated in 2004 from University of Michigan and worked in Florida for a year before moving to Chicago to start his own practice. The office was pretty booked but the staff really works with your schedule to fit you in. I did not feel rushed at all and I felt like Dr. Nasif really knew what he was doing. Dr. Nasif was gentle and not too rough on my teeth and gums. The cleaning was different from my usual cleanings in that they used baking powder crystals to clean my teeth. It was a little salty but I really liked it more than the usual polishing I get. I have experienced a lot of terrible dentists in Chicago and I feel really lucky to have accidentally found Dr. Nasif. This is my third set of dentures, and the first 2 were poorly fitted. Using the results of the panoramic x-ray, Dr. Erhard was able to have made more comfortable, better fitting dentures. The pricing was fair (about $3100) and the result is amazing. I highly recommend this office if you need dentures. Definitely worth the hour drive from Mt. Pleasant!

One Day dentures isn't fancy but honest & do good work at a fair price…read more I did see another peridontist before going & they were at least 5k more. In their paperwork nowhere did it talk about the denture appliance in the quote. What was even crazier this other office wanted to inject botox after surgery to supposedly reduce swelling & pain. Everyone is know who got a both treatment had swelling. It made no sense until I found out ut was the Dr's wife that did those treatments. I was also told at this office theyd bill the insurance for the panoramic & Dr visit & they probably won't cover much but they'd waive it from the treatment if I used them. They didn't submit it to my insurance & called me in late September., since I told them I leave end of October for winters in the south. I did get a letter from my insurance saying neither the panoramic nor the office visit was covered by insurance AND that the peridondist office should know that. One Day Dentures never charged me for any of the several panoramic nor my initial office visit. I'm usually very scared of the shots & having teeth pulled but at One Day Dentures I never felt the shots to numb my mouth, nor any of the 12-13 teeth I had pulled. The temporary bottom denture wasn't fitting well but the dr had me come in many times to adjust. I did ask about expedition of getting the bottom denture with the snap in feature (which helps keep dentures on bottom from a lot of movement for a better fit.) We waited a bit because of my leaving state but he let me come i. 1-2 times a week to get them as near perfect as I wanted them. No extra charge for all those visits & adjustments. I'm currently very pleased with my new uppers and my new lower dentures. I eat well with them they don't flop around. I appreciated the honesty, caring and commitment of all the folks at One Day Dentures. Even the in house lab people want the best fit for you.
