The Hip Zipper Vintage was a fun experience. Their curated items are true vintage and in overall great condition. The store is well organized and clean. Very nice selection of clothing (men & women), purses, shoes, accessories (jewelry, belts, hats). I was trying to find a car-themed trucker hat for the husband but couldn't find one that he would like (he's picky). I was admiring a lily shaped hair stick in the glass case but regrettably didn't ask to see it. I may come back for that one! Very friendly staff who greeted us as we walked in. Pricing is on a higher end, but may be worth it for that one-of-a-kind gift. read more

While visiting Nashville for the first time I always make it a point to visit vintage clothing stores as well as thrift shops. It can be daunting picking where to go since you have never gone into that city or know the market. I visited on March 21,2026 Also, there is the question of selection, price point, and condition ESPECIALLY when buying vintage pieces. I decided to check out The Hip Zipper because it is supposedly the oldest vintage store in Nashville and the prices from other reviewers said were fair to affordable! Selection made for the first stop. I was greeted by the lovely Gracie name suited her. She allowed me to browse quick to answer questions and showed me to the dressing room all while juggling other clients. The Hip Zipper has an ample dressing room for trying on. I think there is only one dressing room. However, in a pinch they might use the restroom. I must mention they do have a restroom which is lovely. I really love the layout of the store easy to survey every rack CLEARLY marked with what is there. The tags give additional help on the size and prices are CLEARLY marked. Please remember vintage does run smaller don't FORCE these garments to fit if you are having trouble PLEASE ask for assistance. I picked up two very fabulous dresses from two different eras of fashion. A sweater dress with amazing details and a matching belt dating from the 1940's to 1950's $ 52.00 and a late 1970's early 1980's dress for a mere $ 10.00! Although I wish I spent more time looking at accessories! There were a few purses that I was swooning over now I wish I had picked one up. Great purse selection! I went here today, and there was a great selection of purses, good selection of clothes and jewelry, and a smaller selection of shoes/boots. Felt the least curated for Nashville vintage shops, meaning the vast selection of clothes available were put on the racks for customers to discover. If it's heavily curated, it feels less like a thrift/vintage store and more of a consignment shop. Hip Zipper was very much the former and I felt like I was discovering pieces on my own while sifting through the racks and for a reasonable price too which was such a welcome relief. 4/5 because it was a little dim in there and difficult to try stuff on. Hip Zipper offers up well-priced apparel, jewelry, accessories, and even free goods to the masses. Carmen J brings up an very important point, the free bin is available because Trisha and crew only sell pieces that are in premium condition. Men and Children also have a good selection to choose from here which can sometimes be rare with vintage dealers in Nashville. The shop is bursting at the seams with historical goodness so be prepared for a digging adventure. Once you do, you will surely discover why it's worth the time and energy. I always do! Trisha's collection also expands to a vault of designer and rare vintage pieces that she will sometimes include at events and special occasions. My jaw literally dropped and I was speechless when she showcased this incredible collection. W.O.W. I adore that she is always willing to help you figure out the vintage sizing system, educate you on the pieces she stocks, and is just all around a great little bundle of energy.These are some of the fundamentals that make shoppers loyal! Let me tell you about ms. Hip Zipper. There was some truly good pieces in here but the shopping experience was too cramped and very dark... hard to see anything. It was giving Hollister energy. Also, a little over priced for the condition of the vintage -- not many summer options here too... and in the Nashville heat of 95 degrees and the AC was barely running inside -- so have fun trying on clothes. read more

Hip Zipper located across from the East Nashville Public Library in a quaint storefront with a loud sign. There are two parking spots right in front but plenty in the library lot after hours, though park at your own risk. The store is usually empty when I go, so no worries about any crowds on the weekends. The best thing about Hip Zipper is the eclectic assortment of men's and women's clothing, shoes and accessories available. There is also a free bin out in front where you can pick out items the store no longer wants to sell, great if you like to see or learn about period patterns. As you walk in, there is a generous display of shoes on your left with menswear to the right. A few steps more and you will stumble onto a dazzling jewelry display and the generous stock of women's dresses, coats, tops, and bottoms. The personnel is usually pretty quiet but polite. You aren't required to shelve anything if you choose to try it on in the dressing rooms at the back of the store. I personally have tried on several items each time I come here, but have yet to commit due to the curator-fitting price tags. Great stock though, so be sure to come with funds for a vintage addiction. read more

I had no idea how great The Hip Zipper is until just about two hours ago. It's nestled in a very low-key location right between the 5 Spot and Red Door East, and, for some reason, I always assumed they primarily sell women's clothing. Oh how wrong I was. Though it's a small store, The Hip Zipper is packed front to back with really cool vintage men's and women's clothing. They have everything from pork pie hats to Western shirts, sweaters, dresses and polyester pants. Store owner Trisha offers both goofy old plaid pants and extremely hip 60s and 70s style shirts, suits and dresses. Other vintage stores in the city (like Katy K's and Flashback) have great selections, but Trisha's clothes are all surprisingly cheap. She offers all sizes (even smalls and extra smalls for bean poles like me) of garb for low prices (i.e. $15 for all long sleeve button-ups and $12 for short sleeve). Even the suits, which are in good condition and quite stylish, only run about $40 or $50. Trisha is very nice and helpful, and while she admittedly has trouble getting to work on time (noon every day but Tuesday), she's usually there to help. For the ladies (though I'm no expert in female attire), I can honestly say she has stuff that I know my friends of the fairer sex would love: cool old broaches, sun dresses, scarves and more. As much as I'm into neat old clothes, I never thought I'd come across a place where you could get them for so cheap. This is totally a place you need to check out. read more

It's a must, every time I roll through town and I usually find something that must come home with me, though I didn't this time. This is a true blue vintage shop with clothes and accessories dating to the 40's and 50's. They may have a piece here or there that is even earlier than that, but in general, that's not the majority of what I've seen. As with many shops, it seems that the availability of pre-60's stuff is getting harder to stock. :-( They've got all the vintage stuff you might want to pick through: all forms of clothes, jewelry, purses, gloves, accessories, and whatnots. This store is really cool and has a large selection. Since I'm not a local, I'm not sure if the price is comparable to other stores in the area. However the owner and staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The owner is really knowledgable about antiques and vintage ware and markets. She even gave us a list of vintage stores in Nashville to check out. Everything looks to be in good condition and you can find every kind of vintage styles in here from shoes, hats, bags, ties, jackets, sweaters and other clothing. Cute selection for both jewelry and other accessories. Love, love the jewelry selection. My friends found good picks for clothing, for work and casual. Dressing rooms are clean and air conditioned. The fact there is a waiting area for people accompanying shoppers is a plus. The decor and ambience in here is super cute and cozy. Appears to be fairly popular. Looks like sales are final. I finally went here for the first time today, after living in East Nashville for 3 months! I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in, as it's much bigger on the inside than it looks from the exterior. They have a huge selection of clothing, shoes and accessories, and everything is well organized by type of garment. I would have liked to have seen clothing separated by size, which would have made it a lot easier to find certain pieces. I have a few qualms, though. The staff didn't say one word to my girlfriend and I, so I didn't get the feeling that they were very friendly. I guess it's that whole apathetic hipster thing. Secondly, they are WAY overpriced. I mean, I know it's vintage and they can charge whatever they want, but that's the problem. Why would anyone spend $15 on a plain old bow-tie or $50 on a polyester brown jacket when they could get the same thing at Goodwill for a fraction of the price? Anyway, Hip Zipper seems to charge a great deal more than other vintage stores around Nashville, but their items *are* pretty quality. read more

The Hip Zipper may be the most organized vintage shop I've ever been to - each rack clearly states the price breakdown between each category of clothing item and even the sizes aren't totally all over the place. So, I'm trying to find a replacement for Clothing X-change, and on my quest for that replacement, I visited the Hip Zipper. First impressions: It's on the East side, which is a bit of a drive for me. Walking in, you're hit with a really funky smell. I don't know if it's all the old clothes or if they flooded in the Great Nashville Flood, but part of me wanted to get out of there as fast as I could. Everything was sorted by fabric and cut. They had a huge selection of dresses (what I was looking for that day). But I think a lot of them were overpriced. If your Aunt Mary was having a garage sale or if you went to Goodwill or other thrift stores, you'd pay $5-$15 for what the Hip Zipper charges $19-$39 for. I understand that they do a lot of work finding those pieces, but in my mind, I couldn't justify paying that much for something I didn't love. That's another thing, there were some cute pieces, but I didn't fall in love with any of them like I normally do when I shop vintage. The staff wasn't as mean as everyone else on here claims they are, but maybe I got a different girl. She did have to iron/steam everything that I tried on and decided not to get (which was everything). So I felt kinda bad, and she was giving me the stink eye. Although I can't blame her, I was desperate for a dress that I needed that night! So anyway, smells funky. Huge selection, but nothing really that great. My quest continues. read more

It reminds me a lot of some of the great vintage and consignment shops you find on upper Haight St. in SF. The Hip Zipper is a fun place to spend some time. I say that because it is packed, literally, with a ton of clothes, shoes, handbags, swimsuits, accessories and more. The selection includes several pieces from the 60-70's but ranges from 40's to 80's it appears. The sunglasses and some of the handbags I have found are over priced, I am constantly shopping vintage and these seem a bit high. The clothes are pretty reasonable if you are in search of an original and authentic piece. The dresses are priced about $19 each for most styles - which to me is a great price for a vintage dress. Swimsuits are also priced nicely - vintage 50's-60's and up swim suits that can be hard to find are also about $19. If you attempt to buy a reproduction suit it can run up into the $100's. I do enjoy browsing here, although it takes a lot for me to spend since I prefer to do the hunting in less "cool" places and get the deal myself, but here they have done all of the sorting and picking for you. Only selling the coolest, nicest pieces. I appreciate the obvious respect the owner and employees have for the history of the clothing. My only gripe is it is very crowded, I wish this place were bigger and had more rack space, it would be a bit easier to navigate. The decor is fun, the clothes are hip and the people are always nice. If you are out hunting down vintage this is a must stop and shop. read more

Love this place! The girl who checked us out was a DOLL and she was so helpful, even printing off a list of other vintage shops in the area to help us on our adventures! My husband scored 2 IMMACULATE 3 piece suits for $55 a set and we couldn't have been more excited! I called her the next day to ask to please put us on the alert if anymore make it through the shop (So we can buy them before you do :-P) and she was happy to do so! The only thing now is to find a tailor to turn the bell-bottom/uber-wide-leg pants that came with them into something more chic and we're set! Loved the selection, prices and accessories (GLOVES! Take a walk down memory lane in the Hip Zipper. Imagine a cross between your grandmother's basement and your parents' closet circa their teenage years. I love the idea of the free clothes bin outside of the store. It would be a truly compassionate if they kept that bin outdoors around the clock for those less fortunate. During their business hours their racks are full of tweed, flannel, silks, and accessories for the whole family. In fact, while searching through some of the racks I even came across some pretty recognizable clothing from my dress up days as a young girl. The prices are generally more pricey than other thrift or consignment shops but it appeared as though the pieces offered by the Hip Zipper are of high quality.
