We arrived an hour before closing. We walked around to see what was being served. There was still a…read moregood variety of options available so we grabbed a booth. Food was decent. The broccoli chicken was delicious and the broccoli was perfectly cooked. Everything we had for dinner was piping hot with the exception of the breaded fried zucchini (barely lukewarm but perfectly crispy). All selections we tried were delicious. The ONE middle-aged lady collecting dirty plates & filling drinks for the entire restaurant was phenomenal. I found her and handed her a nice cash tip before we left. She is definitely overworked and under appreciated. The man at the register was talking to a young male employee in another language -- across the restaurant. As in one guy was up by the front door and the other guy was at the furthest buffet table (desserts), so we got to listen to them holler back & forth at each for almost our entire meal. THAT was weird... and rude. We were exhausted and famished after 10 hours on the road, a peaceful meal would've been nice. As I said, the food was good so at least there was that. The variety of ice cream for dessert was great, but the 2 available scoops were soaking in a cloudy container of gray water. I just used an ice cream teaspoon to dig down deep & dish up. Pocahontas is a halfway point for us on many travels, this was our first time visiting China Star. Their hours are perfect for when we roll in at the end of a long day - I'd much rather have fresh stir fry than fast food. We'll be back.

Quick! Fast! Run, don't walk!…read more Can only speak of what I ordered(although my partner's hibachi steak looked fantastic). Got the walnut chicken lunch. Came with soup, salad and fried rice. Absolutely fantastic! Best go quick because for what you get and the prices they're charging, they'll soon be out of business. Meet me there next week and I'll buy. The end.

I was attended by an excellent server--very helpful, humble and happy to help. Building indeed still seemed brand-new, though maybe a tad heavy-handed on the 'hibachi futurism,' if you catch my drift, but overall clean & pleasant. Maybe a little bit too-sterilized-feeling. But good. Food-wise, I indeed tried the Sushi & Sashimi Dinner, which comes with 15-piece sashimi, 4-piece nigiri, and apparently a salmon avocado that was never included, since maybe there was a confusion about me ordering a Salmon Avocado Hand Roll with it, which I was still charged for. Didn't hit me until I was out the restaurant, lol. Fish-quality could be said to leave much to be desired still, but for a small town, as aforementioned--it might indeed be enough to, 'hit the spot.' I'm not sure if this one's a #recommend or not, but be sure to give it a chance if you're around. Cheers.

I picked it up about an hour later and the…read moresashimi wasn't ready so I waited another 7 or so minutes while they rushed around to prepare and package my order. The octopus sashimi was not tender. The white tuna was not particularly buttery as it should have been if it was escolar (not sure what it was really). The eel was deliciously soft and had the traditional sweet unagi sauce atop. The fried soft shell crab for $7.95 was a whole crab fried into about four pieces. It was not as tender as I've had elsewhere but good for Searcy. The unagi don was in good portion with about seven slices of eel atop a bed of somewhat dry rice. It came with some pickled ginger, a wee bit of seaweed salad, and some artificial wasabi. The eel was good.

I was quite unimpressed with this place. It lacked ambiance, character and warmth. The service…read morewas robotic, and the food barely met standards.... I've gotta vent here..... as a former Sushi chef in Japan, this bastardization of Sushi has gone too far, and this place is just another contributor.... I see that people's favorites here are the Volcano Roll and other localized concoctions... Here's a hint: If you're seeing 'deep fried', 'sirachi', 'cream cheese' or a multitude of other American ingredients in your sushi roll, it's not Sushi. Sure, you enjoy it, and so do I sometimes, but let's stop calling it Sushi. Fair enough? Let's call them 'Fat Rolls' or "Saucy Snakes' or something that describes them better. OK, off my soapbox. This place is un-inspiring....

I was eager to try this new restaurant that's close to me. I went in for lunch, and ordered an…read moreappetizer of spring rolls (3 for $4.29), a Spicy Salmon roll of sushi ($6.25) and the Hibachi Chicken ($11.99) which comes with either a soup or a salad. I chose the salad over the onion soup offered. The salad was uninspiring - it was 99.9% iceberg lettuce, but good and cold and crisp with a nice ginger dressing in a cup. All the food was good and fresh and hot. The chicken had a good flavor in a tasty sauce. The vegetables were also excellent. The rice was a good quantity in its separate compartment. The Chicken Hibachi was served in a plastic container with everything separate (I had told them I'd be boxing it up). The sushi was also good - the raw Spicy Salmon roll was on a par with any sushi I've had in Jonesboro. I'm not a sushi expert but I know when it's good! Overall I think you get good food, but the prices are a bit high. You can go to other oriental food places in Jonesboro and get a buffet all-you-can-eat, or takeout by the pound, and pay considerably less. Nevertheless I will be back to Umai, not only because it's close and convenient but because I'd like to try other menu items. Lastly - and this is not the restaurant's fault - the taxes are killing me on food! My food cost came to $22.53 but the total bill with taxes was $25.77. That's $3.24 or 14.38% in taxes! I sure hope we in Jonesboro are going to get our money's worth for this outrageous amount of taxes on food - but it's probably a forlorn hope.
