I was eager to try this new restaurant that's close to me. I went in for lunch, and ordered an…read moreappetizer of spring rolls (3 for $4.29), a Spicy Salmon roll of sushi ($6.25) and the Hibachi Chicken ($11.99) which comes with either a soup or a salad. I chose the salad over the onion soup offered. The salad was uninspiring - it was 99.9% iceberg lettuce, but good and cold and crisp with a nice ginger dressing in a cup. All the food was good and fresh and hot. The chicken had a good flavor in a tasty sauce. The vegetables were also excellent. The rice was a good quantity in its separate compartment. The Chicken Hibachi was served in a plastic container with everything separate (I had told them I'd be boxing it up). The sushi was also good - the raw Spicy Salmon roll was on a par with any sushi I've had in Jonesboro. I'm not a sushi expert but I know when it's good! Overall I think you get good food, but the prices are a bit high. You can go to other oriental food places in Jonesboro and get a buffet all-you-can-eat, or takeout by the pound, and pay considerably less. Nevertheless I will be back to Umai, not only because it's close and convenient but because I'd like to try other menu items. Lastly - and this is not the restaurant's fault - the taxes are killing me on food! My food cost came to $22.53 but the total bill with taxes was $25.77. That's $3.24 or 14.38% in taxes! I sure hope we in Jonesboro are going to get our money's worth for this outrageous amount of taxes on food - but it's probably a forlorn hope.

I ordered sashimi, unagi don, and fried soft shell crab. I picked it up about an hour later and the…read moresashimi wasn't ready so I waited another 7 or so minutes while they rushed around to prepare and package my order. The octopus sashimi was not tender. The white tuna was not particularly buttery as it should have been if it was escolar (not sure what it was really). The eel was deliciously soft and had the traditional sweet unagi sauce atop. The fried soft shell crab for $7.95 was a whole crab fried into about four pieces. It was not as tender as I've had elsewhere but good for Searcy. The unagi don was in good portion with about seven slices of eel atop a bed of somewhat dry rice. It came with some pickled ginger, a wee bit of seaweed salad, and some artificial wasabi. The eel was good.

I was quite unimpressed with this place. It lacked ambiance, character and warmth. The service…read morewas robotic, and the food barely met standards.... I've gotta vent here..... as a former Sushi chef in Japan, this bastardization of Sushi has gone too far, and this place is just another contributor.... I see that people's favorites here are the Volcano Roll and other localized concoctions... Here's a hint: If you're seeing 'deep fried', 'sirachi', 'cream cheese' or a multitude of other American ingredients in your sushi roll, it's not Sushi. Sure, you enjoy it, and so do I sometimes, but let's stop calling it Sushi. Fair enough? Let's call them 'Fat Rolls' or "Saucy Snakes' or something that describes them better. OK, off my soapbox. This place is un-inspiring....

Today for lunch I was just feeling a very short drive to find a spot I've never hit up before. On a…read morewhim I just jumped on 555 and headed out west of Jonesboro to an ever growing area of Bono(Beau No not the singer). It seemed as though I had been hearing about a place on into town, so I wanted to explore the food scene in this little community a little more. As I was coming into town I noticed a little yellow unmarked food truck, not because there was a crowd really, but because there was a county cop and I didn't really want a ticket. A little further up the road I see this very sad site of a packed out Subway location like they were a delicacy or something. It was so sad to me in fact that I turned around in their parking lot to go back to that little yellow unmarked food truck just to give them some support since the locals seemed to want to feast on big chain Subway. HOLY SMOKES am I soooooo grateful I decided to turn back!!! This little joy bus was exactly what I've been looking for in this little corner of the state! As you can see in the pics, I went w/my usual first time visit order of the double bacon cheeseburger. Ordered it up and went to chill in the Bronco since the wind was so crazy today. After about 15 min I went back up to the window just to see if maybe I'd not heard my name called. This is where it got sideways. The customer before me had snagged my order. Completely not the fault of the sweet ladies hard at work, but the boss lady refused to let me pay and remade the order. It was ready in a flash and I opened it up to see one of the most beautiful DBCB I have ever seen! Again, it was so windy outside I couldn't enjoy it there, and I just knew I was gonna end up wearing this thing if I ate it in my ride. Short trip back to town to the house and to unwrap and dive in. The first bite sent chills down my spine! It was like I had struck gold!!!! My first thought was "I finally found it!!!" Then my next thought was about all those suckers who had to choke down a Subway sandwich when a stones throw away was the BEST BURGER in the Jonesboro area! Everything about this burger was exactly what I want it to be like. THICK hand made patties, fresh condiments, and the absolute best bacon ever put on a burger! The bacon alone made me want to drive back for a BLT, which might happen next week when I can get back over there. Before I walked away I tucked $20 in their tip jar, because I knew if it tasted as good as it looked I would lose sleep thinking I got that dream burger for free. They can mess up an order every time & I'll still wait in line to eat there again!!! Stop by and see those sweet ladies at Donya's Country Kitchen LLC (yellow food truck) in Bono & treat them like gold! They have officially taken over the #2 spot for burgers in Arkansas for me. That is some pretty high praise if you even know me a little.
