Our cruise director, Mario, put together a little side trip to eat some sausages and sample some beers. Well we missed out on the sausage part of the excursion, but we caught the tail end of the beer portion at the Spital (where just a few remained, so we helped extend the visit, yay!). Of course I had beer. I liked the St. Katharinen Spezial, but the darker Spital-Dunkel was my favorite... Oh, did I mention the brewery is co-located? Great place and except for us tourists, it had a very local crowd. Women sat together talking and eating. Men sat at other tables playing cards and drinking beer. It's too bad the weather was already cold and the biergarten closed (though it was being set up as a Christmas market), as it would have been a nice place to sit for extended periods. I would have liked to have eaten there, but we'll have to save that for next time.

Our waitress was quick to bring our pretzels regularly with our drinks and I was able to enjoy my favorite German dish, sauerkraut. It did not disappoint. It has a very warm and cozy environment that makes you feel right at home. Highly recommend for a group to enjoy a good time day drinking or exploring German cuisine and drinks.
