Historic Cocoa Village was founded by fishermen. It is believed that the first families arrived in the area around 1860. The post office was established at Magnolia Point and the first commercial building was built in 1881 or 1882. Originally named Indian River City, the name was rejected by the U.S. Postal authorities who refused it for being too long for use on a postmark. Legend has that in 1925, a meeting of citizens in chose to associate the town with the cocoa plant. An alternate telling of the tale has the town being named after an elderly woman who would supply hot cocoa to the sailors as they traversed the Indian River. Whatever is the case, it is a charming name for a inviting town. Through the years Cocoa Beach has suffered its ups and downs to eventually emerge has an appealing tourist destination in Central Florida. Today you can shop at antique stores and clothing boutiques along with bookstores, gift shops, art galleries, and craft stores. Some of the businesses peddling their wares include Magic Dove Magic Shop, Hello Again Books, Sand and Sea Gifts and Gallery, Candy Affair Candy Boutique, Rare Essentials, Tangled Rose Boutique, Vintage Cycle Shop, The Treasure Hunters Mall, B&B Candles Soaps & Gifts, The Toy Box, and so many more. Cocoa Village is also well known for their dining options. They have local and international cuisine to satisfy any taste. Restaurants include Tin Whiskey, Bros Burger Bar, River Road Coffee and Popsicle, Cafe de Havana, Ossorio Bakery & Cafe, and the Village Beer Garden plus many others to choose from. The historic downtown also includes picturesque parks and you can catch artistic performances at the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse. Many events are held including Arts and Crafts fairs, Sip & Strolls, Cocoa Village Concour, and Hot Cocoa Holidays. I found historic Cocoa Village to be filled with Southern charm and hospitality and I love that it still exudes Old Florida quaintness. Whether for an afternoon or an entire day, there is so much to explore among the historic buildings here.

If you live in Brevard County or find yourself staying in Cocoa Beach and want a nice place to go...this is it!! It is truly the coolest spot for locals or tourist. Cocoa Village has lots to offer between the restaurants, shops and beautiful park. You can find something amazing to eat in every genre here including Thai(Thai Thai), German (Von Stephan Village Bier), Pizza/wings(Ryan's), Icecream, Italian, bbq, Mexican, coffee and more. There is always live music going at one of these or all of them. Fun for night life or daytime with the fam. There are a few cool bars and breweries such as Dirty Oar Beer Company. The park is the true highlight. It's a shaded park for children with lots of picnic tables. They have the parent/baby swing. Lots of field space for sports. A volleyball court. There's also a butterfly garden. There is a huge splash pad and lastly all the benches in the park hand painted for all ages to enjoy. For the live events they are random but they do live music on the stage and you can typically find a special event for holidays such as forth of July, Halloween, Christmas and more. They usually host a huge Reggae festival amongst other festivals. Overall Cocoa Village is the cool spot to visit while in Cocoa of if your resident.

Came here on a Monday afternoon to stroll around and found out that 80% of businesses in Historical Cocoa Village are closed on Monday's. That said- I was still able to walk around a bit and found the shop selection OK compared to other downtowns. Not very unique and not a lot to see. I was hoping for more character and didn't get that vibe. Okay to visit if looking to kill time, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit next time.

The shops, restaurants, and entertainment in Historic Cocoa Village keep our family coming back year after year. The staff at each establishment we visit are friendly, warm, and welcoming. Parking is free and plentiful but can get scarce on days when special events are scheduled in the outdoor park or convention center. The unique architecture, public art, various murals, and delightfully arranged shop windows are a visual delight.

Historic Cocoa Village might not be worth a special trip but since I was on one of the hop on and off van as it was the first stop of the route. There are quite a few little shops to browse around. The most enjoyable part was to get an ice cream and walk along the waterfront area. Not bad for a nice stroll on a sunny day till we hopped back on the van for our next stop!

What a cute little area! Lots of shops and eateries. The vibe is really chill and its kid and pet friendly. A nice break from the beachside area. Still very close to a waterway, which I prefer over the beach. Parks and a running trail makes this a nice quaint place to get away for a weekend.

So much fun to explore. So much ambience, and such variety. Always run out of time before I am done with my retail therapy when I am here.

Smallest area in Cocoa Beach and worth a visit for lunch and stroll. All local shops and restaurants.

Halim was an outstanding guide... knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to spend time with. He shared history and insights in a way that never felt scripted, and his personality made the whole experience feel relaxed and fun. It truly felt like we were exploring with a friend. Each stop offered something unique and delicious, from alligator tail at Pub Americana to a fresh and flavorful chicken salad with croissant at Ossorio Bakery & Café, perfectly smoked brisket and sausage at Crydermans BBQ, and finishing with amazing drunken noodles at Thai Thai Village. This tour is such a great way to experience the local food scene and learn a bit of history along the way. It was such a fun way to spend time together and show them a unique side of the area. Something must have happened lately. Last night, my husband and I went there for our weekly date night. We were excited to enjoy some wine and good Italian food. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. None of the waitresses smiled or greeted us warmly. Instead, we felt like an inconvenience rather than valued customers. The waitress came to our table with no smile or greeting and immediately asked what we wanted to drink. My husband ordered a half carafe of red wine, and she brought only one wine glass. It seemed odd, as if it was assumed I would need to order my own wine rather than share with my husband. I ordered the Pasta Calamari, and my husband ordered a large two-topping pizza. A few minutes later, she brought my salad and only one plate for the pizza, as if my husband and I were two separate parties rather than a couple dining together. As we waited, we noticed that two other tables that were seated after us received their food before us. After 1 hour and 15 minutes, we still had no food, no bread that should have come with my entrée, and no updates from the waitress about our order. Finally, my husband got the waitress's attention and asked about the bread. She said they hadn't made it yet but would bring it later. She also told us that an 18-inch pizza is not easy to make and that was why other people were getting their pizzas before us. Later, the manager came over and told us that he dropped our pizza, and it had to be remade. The problem wasn't just the delay--it was the complete lack of communication. Our waitress never updated us, never checked on our order, did not bring hot bread or make our wait any easier, and never seemed concerned about how long we had been waiting. When the food finally arrived, so did the bread and my Pasta Calamari. By then, we had lost our appetite. The pasta with red sauce was not visually appealing, and there was very little visible calamari. We decided to leave disappointed. Compared to our previous visits, the prices have increased noticeably, while the food quality, service, and overall atmosphere have declined. It felt like a completely different restaurant from the one we used to enjoy. Sadly, this sounds like what happens when owners stop focusing on good service and quality food. Restaurants that go down this path often end up closing. It is very sad because this used to be one of our favorite places.
