My husband and I flew in from Southern CA for a wedding here and found ourselves immediately blown away by the most beautiful hotel in the smallest little town of Marion. Let me say, I have traveled 48 states and stayed in many types of inns, hotels, bed and breakfasts etc over the years and have never experienced a place like this. Between the friendly staff and many conversations over the weekend, the delicious food at the Parlour 1886, and the unique ambiance. It was truly one of a kind. I saw so much love poured into every inch of this place. I truly hope we can make our way back to Kansas one of these days, so we can visit again. Thank you Jennifer and Alicia!

We loved our stay at the Historic Elgin Hotel! It was beautiful. A step back into a more elegant time! The staff was super friendly and the rooms were immaculate. We loved the beautiful staircase with the old music playing at all times. We enjoyed playing pool in the game room and working out in the gym!! This place is a hidden gem!

What a spectacular evening away We experienced at the Elgin Hotel! We met Jennifer at the front desk and she was so helpful telling us everything we needed to know about our stay. We also made a reservation for dinner and it was so delicious! The Old Fashioned cocktails were perfectly made by the bartender too. After dinner we sat outside on the veranda as we enjoyed some wine. Then our evening in the room was peaceful and relaxing. We can't wait to come back and stay! Thank you Elgin for a wonderful evening!

Wow. The Historic Elgin Hotel is one of the most beautiful and unique places I've ever stayed. You really feel like you've stepped back in time when you arrive. I really enjoyed the expert balance of vintage charm and modern convenience. Upon our arrival, we were given a quick tour. The staff were lovely. The first floor features a ballroom as well as a restaurant and cocktail lounge. A beautiful staircase winds toward the second and third floor guest rooms. Our room was cozy and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable. We were invited to walk around and check out some of the other rooms. They are all beautiful and each have their own unique character. Every inch of this place is seriously striking. The second floor features a full kitchen for guest use. Coffee, tea, and some light fare is available round the clock. We spent some time later in the evening out on the second floor veranda taking in the night air. This place is so relaxing. It's magical. If you're looking to get out of your room, the whole hotel boasts comfortable seating areas throughout, but the third floor offers the most. Here you'll find the guest lounge as well as the library. We really enjoyed just walking around the place. There is so much to see! Back on the first floor make sure to check out the courtyard. Comfortable seating and a relaxing air day or night. At the center of the courtyard is the game room. There's a nice pool table, darts, antique card table and board games. It's yet another wonderful amenity and a reason to get out of your room! While the Historic Elgin Hotel offers ample 19th century charm, there are plenty of modern touches as well. Wifi, key code entry to the property and, most striking to me, the fitness center. Located behind a fairly nondescript sign, the fitness center is actually several rooms and offers a lot more than what you would find at most contemporary hotels. Top notch. The Elgin's elegance, comfort, and convenience would be hard to match. It was by far one of my favorite hotels I've stayed in. I hope to be back soon.Very highly recommended.

I travel quite a bit for work and always look forward to staying at the Elgin. The hotel is gorgeous, the rooms are spotless, the bedding is super comfortable, and the common kitchen is fully stocked with impeccable attention to detail. The area is walkable and the downtown is so cute. I highly recommend staying here! Don't forget to check out their steakhouse on the first floor and the yummy coffee shop across the street.

Best place to stay when in Marion, Kansas! The hotel's customer service is outstanding. Their staff was so pleasant and amazingly patient with accommodating not one, but three reservation changes. The rooms and other areas very clean. So many amenities at this bed & breakfast, but mostly loved that our family in Marion was able to join us for a game night on the 2nd floor and we were able to use the 2nd floor kitchen to host them. On another evening we had a quiet night in sharing wine & getting to know other lovely out of town guests in the beautiful living room on our floor. Our family in Marion rented the beautiful hall and it was so convenient to use the hall's kitchen. This hotel will satisfy any type of stay, from business to pleasure to hosting a larger group for a reunion. This will definitely be the only place I will stay at whenever returning to Marion or any of the surrounding towns.

Started off with a wonderful fresh herbaceous salad with crisp asparagus and a lively house made vinegar dressing. Although the menu described it as a soup, we were still very happy with what this course and we enjoyed it immensely. The homemade bread was beautifully crafted and had subtle Indian spiced tones. It was warm and fresh. The second course was 3 perfectly cooked scallops on a bed of heavenly mushrooms and oats with a light mushroom sauce. 10/10! I could eat that everyday and it would not become tiresome! For the entree, I had the short ribs, which were melt in your mouth delicious. Meanwhile husband enjoyed the beautifully prepared pork belly. Deserts were not a let down at all. Notably the Carmel sauce and rich chocolate torte was perfectly balanced. We did enjoy the wine pairings, although did wonder why the establishment would choose to serve a heavy red with the scallop course. However it did seem to work in some degree. Points of refinement: I wish the server was more educated on the wines we were served. For example she could only tell us it's a great Cabernet. And when probed for more information, she was not prepared to explain more. Additionally a more detailed explanation about the courses, the ingredients, and the preparation would have been so appreciated. And wrapping up leftovers as a service should be customary. Small points of refinement would elevate the dining experience. The restaurant is warm and welcoming with an abundance of natural light. The decor is beautiful and inviting. The farmhouse factor definitely screams fresh. I hope the chef continues on their journey as this was an unexpected experience not soon to be forgotten. It really was a 5 star meal and i look forward to returning here should I ever return to Wichita.

The five-course meal, crafted by a remarkably talented chef using a variety of techniques from their farm, was beautifully executed in a surreal indoor-outdoor setting. We arrived on the farm (after our Ford GPS took us a wonky route along a few miles of dirt road--so make sure you stay on paved roads and you won't have trouble--I was told by Kristin, our host and one of the owners, that Google Maps has no problem). I have to share our experience in detail because I feel we discovered a new must-visit experience in the KC area! We arrived at the 30-acre farm, parked in the field, and were greeted by our server who welcomed us warmly and offered us an arrival cocktail to sip while we explored the truly lovely grounds, pond, and nearby goats. After our leisurely stroll, we returned to the dining pavilion and found our seats at the gorgeous (and massive!) live-edge dining table along with a menu specifically for this weekend. Our gracious host Kristen and server brought out our first drink pairing, a minted lime seltzer that was refreshing and light. Our first course arrived--Blue Jade cornbread with arugula, sweet pea salad, and chicken liver paté. The cornbread was unlike any I had before and was absolutely delicious. The sweet pea salad was literally bursting with flavor the peas were so fresh and the chicken liver paté out of this world. Such an interesting flavor profile and combination. The next beverage pairing arrived a short time later as we enjoyed the perfect evening, a blackberry purple basil shrub. This drink was also delicious and refreshing (and save that blackberry for last--what a treat!). The Mangalista pig, we were told, is the "wagyu of pork" and the crisp, tasty, marbled pork chop was excellent. It was served with a beet "kimchi" with fennel root and a sheep cheese dumpling that was creamy and flavorful. Finally, our coffees were served and a dessert of yellow squash cake, lemon honey ice cream with mulberry compote was brought to us. Again, the dish was original, delicious, and a perfect ending to our meal. We can't wait to come back and have try a new menu in the future. Such a perfect evening and the chef has such an exciting vision for hyper-local farm-to-table flavors and dishes.
