Use vendors who have been at the Boathouse before and understand the best way for events to flow to make your guests comfortable. It's a great space- make it worth your money and work with vendors who know how to use it. The prices are high for the services offered.

Where else are you going to see dinosaurs, mummys, and a handwritten letter by Elizabeth I? I really enjoyed walking around, exploring, and I know my kiddo did as well. It's in an old building downtown and has loads of charm everywhere you look. 4/5 stars because I thought the kids play area was a bit of a letdown - it felt a bit dirty and neglected. There also isn't a cafe, which I think would be a fun addition if they ever plan on expanding or remodeling. The exhibits were wonderful though, and I thought for the price it was a great deal. Overall I'd for sure go back and if you're the kind of person that enjoys something off the beaten path, or has a love for old stories and a solid diorama, this is the place for you.

For the most part, it is on one level. There is a small playroom for tots upstairs and a small layout. Downstairs is where it's all happening. The first room we were taken to housed a layout that was bequeathed to the club. This was my favorite. The HO scale layout fills the room and has a great track design. It's the details of this that are mind boggling. The there is the Old West and everything about the layout adds to that. The steam locomotives are period pieces as are the rolling stock. Beautiful pieces. The buildings are all period and are weathered for realism. The people and vehicles are also in line with the theme. There are small touches, like a bird sitting on a telegraph wire. There is a lumber yard and the layout builder whittled tiny split logs -- hundreds of them -- just like real cut wood with bark on one side and the bared wood inside. It's said that he did this task while watching TV. I could have stayed in that room all day looking at different aspects of the layout. I have always wanted one with this theme and this is what I'd always envisioned it looking like. Absolutely gorgeous. In the main room, there are several layouts, some relatively simple and some more intricate. One side of the room has the skeleton framework for a new layout started and I look forward to seeing the progress next visit. There is a small layout with transformers for kids to actually run some trains. Nice touch. The walls are lined with cases filled with trains and train related items donated to the museum. Walking through them brings back memories of the Lionel O gauge trains of my youth. Off in another room is a layout with a Swiss theme. Oh my! The track design is interesting but the layout scenery, etc., is amazing. There are many moving pieces, like a Ferris wheel, cable cars strung between the mountains, and so much more. The headlights and taillights of the cars on the street scenes actually light. That must have been a wiring nightmare. Dim the lights and the night scene comes alive. I've rambled long enough. If you're in the area when it's open, do visit. Sadly, it's only open on the second and fourth weekends of the month, 10am-5pm Saturday, 1pm-5pm Sunday. And one last thing, the people working there couldn't be nicer. They answer questions, point out interesting things, and just seem to love what they're doing. I'll definitely be back.

Here's a bulleted list: * Having all the vendors and add-on experiences wrapped into one coordinated venue was the best decision Brian has ever made! It made our day so peaceful knowing he had it all handled, and the set up/tear down was easy peasy too! * Dena made our cake and I can't explain how heavenly it was! We tried all of her flavors and deciding which ones to have for our guests was so difficult because they all were delicious! We ended up choosing a white chocolate cake with hazelnut frosting, a dark chocolate cake with vanilla bean frosting, and a dark chocolate cake with cookies and cream frosting. Our guests continued to tell us how great they were! * The day-of coordination between Brian, his son, his daughter, and his wife Dena made the entire process run smoothly and their years of experience is evident. Having a golf cart to transport me to the ceremony site so I wasn't walking in heels over gravel or dirt is just one example of how much thought they've put into each event. * The air bnb is beautiful! It was an amazing place to stay overall, and made our weekend so much less stressful since my girls and I got to stay the night before, and my husband and I got to stay the night of. * There were multiple times I messed up (arrived early the day before, didn't pass out my vendor cards, etc) and Brian not only had the patience of a saint, but made sure everything I forgot about got done!! He passed out all my vendor cards while I got to sip on a margarita, and if that doesn't show you how great they are I don't know what else to say I could go on, and on, and on about how impressed I am with not only the beautiful venue but all the extra coordinating, experiences, and activities that come along with booking them but I think I have gotten my point across.
