Rangers & Volunteers were friendly and answered our questions. Walking through the site and watching the video gave us in-sight on the contributions Olmstead made to the building of America. Central Park is one of our favorites.

You feel you are in nature even though you're in a residential neighborhood. Tours are free, and ours was done by an intern, so he knew quite a bit, but he did struggle with questions that were off script. Still, the tour focused on Olmsted's workshop which was authentic and interesting how the process of creating these outdoor spaces worked. He really created an industry, and having natural spaces in bustling spaces does a lot of good for everyone's well-being. The rest of the house has a video summary of Olmstead and there was an exhibit more on his family. The garden is a delight to walk through. The gift shop was sparse though. This site was looking like a 5+ except they had created a "game" for some reason about how JFK and nepotism. Did JFK's father appoint him president? Did Olmsted's father give him a successful architecture firm? What is the connection? They both had privilege, but so did a lot of people who didn't do a fraction of what they did. The fact that NPS paid tax money for someone to create this weird game is pretty insulting. Hopefully it was a volunteer intern who snuck it in the back room, but that's wishful thinking. This is a nice historic site to visit for the most part, so hopefully they stick to showing off the workshop and some insight into Olmstead's life and great works. That part was great.

We walked here easily from Kenmore Sq. but there's Hynes Convention Center T-stop at the beginning of the famous street. Cute buildings and shops, lots to explore, cafe-s, restaurants. Unfortunately more chains took over from the time my husband lived near by. I wasn't impressed with the selection of restaurants either, couldn't find a place to dine here at. Lots of boba drinks shops. Very pleasant to stroll, you can walk as much as you like. The shopping area goes for about 8 blocks. A must see area in the Back Bay of Boston! Enjoyed my visit to the Historical Society on my recent trip to Boston. If you're staying in the…read moreBack Bay Area it's within walking distance from most of the hotels. There are always things on exhibit from their extensive collections and the items that were on display were breathtaking. As a Civil War fanatic I was especially thrilled to see the sword Colonel Robert Gould Shaw was carrying on the Second Assault on Fort Wagner. It was on display in a case filled with other relics of the famed 54th. There were some items associated with General Benjamin Butler including a chamber pot that had his likeness in it made while he was in command of the Union occupation of New Orleans. By chance we ran into the librarian of the society, Peter Drummey, one of the nicest men in all of Boston, who gave us an opportunity to see some of the famous letters from the John and Abigail Adams archive. This was probably one of the highlights of my visit to Boston as I have been using these letters as primary sources in my career as a classroom teacher. So I'm going to give a shout out to Mr Drummey for his graciousness. A 10/10 experience.

The house comprises beautiful crown moldings, light fixtures, and even some stained glass. The dining room was my favorite room. And the spiral staircase to walk up to the third story was stunning. Of course it goes over the gorgeous Charles River, and it's really nice that they actually built a bridge that is mainly for pedestrians. And of course because there aren't any bridges that are directly adjacent to this which you can drive across, then it means that students can walk across the river to school and whatnot. And there are great views of Boston and Cambridge from here. So it's just absolutely gorgeous - as is much of Boston honestly.

A bridge for people not for cars. Yay!…read more The Weeks footbridge crosses the Charles river between the Harvard Business School and Harvard proper. It's a picturesque faux-medieval bridge that appears in most postcards of Harvard with a rowing boat popping through the arches. A great place to spend a warm sunny day and the best vantage point for the Head of The Charles regatta once a year. It's nice to be able to see the lovely river without the bother of pesky cars and it's a romantic spot for any date. Hopefully one night the winter ice there will be thick enough for me to go out with a special someone to recreate the cover-scene from Eternal Sunshine.

MIT Stata Center is one of the signature buildings in MIT. It's an amazing and interesting…read morearchitecture covered with lots of irregularly shaped mirrors. People love to play with their reflections and take funny photos. The mirrors were assembled in weird angles and curved into different shapes so you can have your imagination to make funky poses.
