Not a fan at all. My basement had flooding issues and when I tried to bring this to my elderly parents' attention, they somehow decided to finish the basement, despite the musty smell and this seasonal flooding for 20 years. I was hoping that maybe Hivex would identify this issue and maybe back me up on this point before they fully converted it to a rentable living space. But they didn't. We then got a huge rain which left visible signs of flooding and standing water on the basement floor. When I told my Dad, he said it was due to Hivex mopping the floor. I was certain that Hivex would help clear this up and attribute the water to the recent storms. They didnt--they confirmed (lied?) to my dad that it was due to their mopping a few days prior. So then they started installing the framing for the drywall, despite the smell and standing water. I knew the project was doomed at this point because once the drywall went up, that moisture would be sealed off behind it and the mold would just flourish. That's when we got the biggest storm in Spring of 2025 which resulted in catastrophic flooding of the basement, leaving zero doubt about the flooding. (This is also a common-sense issue in our area, which has heavy clay soil). We hired a basement moisture company to deal with the seasonal flooding but we had to remove the framing to install the dewatering trench at the base of the wall. At this point, they were really behind schedule. The price was outrageous. Over $80K. My friend just finished his basement and oversaw the drywall, electrical work, cabinetry, etc. He did his basement, which is larger, for around $20,000. The mark up was huge and I was really expecting more. Hivex is for people who love to spend money. Little things they missed: 1. Basement door will not lock and the GC never coordinated with the basement moisture people as to who's fault this was. I thought the GC was supposed to solve things like this and not let things fall through the cracks? 2. Ceiling fan is supposed to reverse during the cold months. This feature is broken which really sucks in the winter time, when all the warmth stays on the ceiling. 3. Faucet was really loose and I had trouble correctly tightening it. Frustrating for a few weeks as it gradually loosened and I had to keep fixing it. 4. The reverse pump for the bathroom was not even sealed. There was a visible gap on the lid of this device and the smell was AWFUL for a few weeks. My aging parents cant smell anything so they just said I was crazy. After a few weeks of this smell, they finally had someone come to seal it. This worker seemed very honest and he said it was bad they missed this. Nasty Hivex. 5. They have really bad deals and poor quality when it comes to their cabinetry and kitchen design options. (Cheap stuff designed to maximize profits). They also refuse to work with whatever company you went with for the cabinets/hardware/faucet. Again, whats the point of the GC if they arent coordinating with everyone? We went with IKEA and it was SO chaotic and horrible. Its basically an automated company at this point. read more

This company saturates my mail with their UNSOLICITED ADS. I have sent them numerous notices to stop sending me their ads, and they refuse to stop. They are violating federal law by refusing to stop their unwanted mailings. I don't know how good their work is, but based on their illegal mailings, I would never trust them to do anything. read more

HIVEX broke the stereotype. We had an unfinished basement project and Hivex went above and beyond on finishing it. From the first interaction to the last (and we were sad to see them go) it was pure professionalism. Contractors get a bad reputation of not showing on time, not communicating, taking short cuts... Hivex changes the game. We received a detailed email with images when we entered into a new phase of construction, every time. Scott Alice was fantastic as a project manager and made sure everything was above the standard. We miss seeing the workers every day and seeing leaps and bounds of progress. BUT we are so happy to now have a dry, clean, well lit place for our children to play, a wonderful laundry room, beautiful new bathroom and a poker space. I used HIVEX Basement Finishing. They put in a new railing for the basement stairs and landing leading to REC room. I set mines up with den, hvac, bathroom joined with a bedroom. Pros: 1)they have detailed information i,e payment time frame, when each section would be done 2)you get a pm 3)you get to choose what you want to install for bathroom i.e nieche, Cons: 1)bathroom items were purchased by me but the credit amount was low 2)they dont clean up neatly i.e painter left paint on the concrete patio and they didnt make it right (docking point on reliability) 3)bulging drywall seams So between 1-10 I'd choose 7. read more

From start to finish the folks at Hivex did an excellent job and I couldn't be happier. I was especially happy with Bob Salo, our project manager, who I interacted with the most at the company by far. Bob always kept me in the loop on how the project was progressing and promptly responded to a large change request (running high capacity wires from the electrical panel) as well as small extra requests at no charge (adding additional framing to support a chin up bar in the exercise room, removing 8 mm from the bottom of the exercise door trim which he did himself on the spot). After Hivex finished the basement and I had it painted and carpet installed I wasn't able to figure out how to pull TV cable/wire through the cord-hider wall plate since there was insulation in the wall. So I called Bob who quickly came over and was able to pull the cable through the wall using a specially designed fish stick. All of these extras were very much appreciated. We bought our house in April 2018. The basement was completely unfinished except for a partial room. We explored different options for finishing our basement. A few independent contractors provided quotes, but after a chat with our neighbors who had also used Hivex to finish their basement, we decided to reach out. We called and Jessica immediately scheduled some time for Dan to come and walk the space and meet with us. Dan arrived on time and he was so friendly, personable, and gave us ideas off the cuff of how he could transform our space. Following the meeting, we were confident that we would proceed with Hivex. We had a slight delay in signing the contract with the them due to some personal reasons. However, a few months later when we were ready, Hivex was prepared and honored the same quote initially provided. Once work began, BJ our project manger, was so responsive and patient with us every single step of the way. We hired Hivex to install a large family room and bathroom in our unfinished basement, along with a pantry, closet, and new exterior door. Overall, we are thrilled with this company and would hire them again! We really appreciated the thoroughness of their work and that they worked with us to keep our tight budget on track. During the initial quote/paperwork process, the owner, Dan, provided suggestions of items to cut to keep us on budget that we were happy to do ourselves (contrast this with another company that gave us a quote, who constantly tried to upsell and add-on work). The project was completed on time and fairly smoothly.
