This is one of my favorite places to eat at WEM, on winter time is when I love stoping there because I order the spicy coconut chicken soup is so good, not really spicy but just with the right kick of spice, I know their meat is not the best quality like their chicken is not my favorite but I love that soup just because of the coconut flavor!!! My kids like the rice and spring rolls and obviously we all love the green onion cake!!! I know is not the best place to eat at WEM but for me is my favorite soup place only because is spicy and coconut flavor i wish other places had something like that soup but this is the only place they have it so that's why i stop there at WEM just for the soup lol read more

I have loved this place for years. It is the best place to stop In West Ed, especially for the value of the food! Their green onion cakes are fantastic and their food is always cooked with lots of flavour. My favourite dish is the Thai coconut curry chicken noodle soup. It is my go to when I am sick and the bowl is MASSIVE for 13$. I wouldn't expect top service as there are usually not many people working and I rarely get a refill on water because they are busy. The menu is large and there is an expansive amount of choices. Food has always come quickly and correctly. read more

Well..,the service was friendly. It did take longer than expected for them to serve me just noodles and they got my order wrong. Luckily I was hungover slightly and couldn't care less. I also like tripe despite not asking for it. It isn't the greatest place for pho, but the broth wasn't bad. It was a bit on the sour side which was different. The basil it came with had some dark splotches which miffed me. I worked around it. The bowl of pho was 12$ for two types of meat which is a bit pricey. Given that it was WEM I wasn't surprised. They didn't charge for tea, which is a nice thing and took a bit out of the price sting. Given that you could literally just go to T&T and buy a curry bun for like 2$ I'd probably never come here again. It isn't a bad place, just a weird location so close to cheap eats at T&T. One of the worst Vietnamese vermicelli dishes that I ever had. I ordered F6 - vermicelli with everything - and it was a combination of undercooked and overcooked food. The grill that the meat was cooked on was not cleaned so there's tons of old burnt residue flakes all over my food. The meat ends are burnt, too, but thicker meat slices are still a bit undercooked on the inside, meaning the cook grilled on too high of a temperature. The thin meat pieces were tough and dry - very jerky like. There is a lot of meat but not enough vegetables to balance it out. I didn't finish my food because the build up of burnt food flakes on my tongue was too much for me. At least the noodles were done right ... For $16, I expected them to clean the shrimp - the waste vein was still attached. The shrimp was also way overcooked. Too expensive for poorly cooked food. read more

Of all of the noodle houses I frequent, including the ones in Chinatown, this location of Hoang Long is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants. I don't often come to West Edmonton Mall exclusively for the purpose of dining, but I do occasionally just to come here. This is a small but well laid out, bright restaurant in the Chinatown area of the Mall. It serves different kinds of pho noodle soups, as well as rich or noodle dishes with chicken, beef, or pork. The bowls of pho are enormous - probably the biggest I have ever had without ordering a large size. And it tastes great. I also really like anything with lemongrass grilled chicken or beef. As an appetizer, I order skewers of the chicken and beef, which are long and loaded with meat and covered in a spicy peanut sauce. They take a while to prepare but are worth the wait. To drink I often order tea, iced coffee over condensed milk, or a "sunrise" - a combination of orange juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine, served in a tall glass. The drink is as great to look at as it is to drink. A family owned establishment with other Edmonton locations, Hoang Long has great food, good prices (slightly higher than other Vietnamese restaurants by a dollar or two for most dishes), and good service. read more

I'd really like to give them a better review but I don't think sweeping the floor while customers are eating gives them any more stars. We ordered the hoang long salad and it was delicious; just Iike an inside out salad roll. We also ordered the chicken noodle (chicken pho) and war wonton. The chicken noodle was a bit of a disappointment. It didn't have the usual likings of a beef pho (like most other places) but instead they put lettuce and some green onion in it. This place is a great little diamond in the rough. Not many people know about this pace, but they should. It's never busy when I go here but I'm hoping people will find out about it and fill it up every day and night because it's really good. The best way I can think of to describe this place is to say that it's the best of both worlds - Vietnamese and North American. The food is traditional Vietnamese food and it is delicious. The service is North American service - meaning that they don't just drop off your food and never talk to you again. They check on you and they give good service. The prices are good too. Bad customer service. Staffs are not friendly. We ordered ice tea. They brought out a can of ice tea with the straw stuck underneath of the can opener. The straw had no paper cover at all. Sanitization. In ordered broken rice with four toppings for $15. My husband ordered Pho with two toppings. The BBQ meat on my plate was full of fat. There was no meat at all. Other restaurants give customers free soup when you ordered broken rice; not this place. They charged $3 for a tiny bowl of soup (beef broth). Staffs spoke foul language in Vietnamese. This is not a good place to dine in. They used to have a big place but not they shrunk down to 1/3 or the previous space. This means they have terrible food and customer service. read more

I had to laugh as I filled out the survey below - it asks if there is waiter service. Technically there is but honestly their service is their only downfall. One time the server said they can't accept tips because they all go to the owner. I didn't really understand because I just assumed the servers were the sons of the owner. Here's the scoop: You will get seated right away. You will most likely get an order taken right away and you might get first water or drink order fairly soon after sitting down. After that...it's iffy. First - ALWAYS relish that water. It will not be refilled even if you ask. Savour it, ration it and keep it protected. If you order soft drinks - there is no free refill. Even if you wanted to pay another $3 it's not likely to get refilled anyways. So why 4 stars? Ohhhhh the food is soooo good. Most of the time we order the same thing: Appies Salad Rolls or the delish coconut shrimp. Let me tell you - the shrimp - oh the shrimp. You should know - I don't like shrimp. But I love the coconut shrimp here. They have no weird fishy taste, the coconut is liberal and it is served on a bed of greens with the most addicting sesame sauce. I wish they bottled and sold that sesame sauce because it would help me eat salad more regularly. Main - we usually go for the 3-colour vermicelli bowls. Hubs gets the pork, chicken, spring roll. I get the beef chicken spring roll. Yum - great flavour - no chance of it being "cat beef" and no fatty gristly parts on either the chicken or beef which I love. Spring roll is always fresh and tasty. Sometimes we get the thai - the coconut curry dishes are divine and I get cravings for them. So as long as you can overlook the service - you will enjoy this place. Remember: - savour your water!! - Always go up to pay your bill at the bar. Chris: I probably would give this restaurant 5 stars if the service was acceptable. The whole time we were there, the waitress did not speak a single world to us. Not even "Thank you", which is rather rude, and it's probably the most universal phrase next to "Hello". As soon as I received the bill, I walked over to the register to pay instead of waiting for her to come back. I waited about 5 minutes, but it would've been faster than waiting 15 minutes, which I'm sure it probably would've been. Aside from the service, my pho w/ medium rare sliced beef was delicious. The portion size will satisfy the average diner, and the broth - very savoury. David: The waitress was very rude; she was extremely impatient when I was unsure of what to order. We popped in here the other day while at the mall. I was so excited when I saw that there's a Hoang Long at WEM (by T&T). I had massively talked up the coconut curry rice dish, which I've had many times at the HL downtown. After scanning the menu, my fiance and I realized that it's an abbreviated menu here that just focusses on soups, salads, gelato and appies. We were out of luck, but when I asked about the rice dish the server was nice enough to tell us that just outside the mall is their sister restaurant, which serves the full dinner menu. Good to know for next time - but since we were famished, we quickly ordered their exceptional salad rolls with a spicy peanut dipping sauce ... that is so good you could just eat it with your finger and be satisfied;) The vibe of the place is very lunchy and minimalist-modern. There's a gorgeous painting of a blossoming tree that I would love to have for my living room, but not much other decor. The rest is white and chrome. OK for a fly-by bite, but I probably wouldn't come here otherwise, since their restaurant in Chinatown totally rocks. This family-owned business has done so well because of the quality and consistency of their service and food over many years in Edmonton. They've got my loyalty. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go for Vietnamese food. Over the years I've been here countless times and the food has never disappointed. I only ever order one thing - the chicken vermicelli bowl - it's my favorite. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the below average service. They are friendly enough but if you need another glass of water, more napkins, or anything after they bring you your order, you practically need a flare gun to get their attention. I really wish they would check up on you and make sure you have what you need every once and awhile. The lack of service after you get your food makes me shy away from leaving a tip. read more

Most of the time when I head to WEM its with my husband who isn't always food adventurous but this time I was with a friend and so we headed to Hoang Long for lunch mid-way through shopping. We both had the same things...Its called Bun something or another but its basically a cold noodle salad with veggies and your choice of grilled meats or seafood. We both had ours with the grilled beef with was in a marinade that included lemongrass!! I have to say that while I have not had a lot of Vietnamese food here in Edmonton I will be going back here again. The food was good, fast and inexpensive. The service is lacking and the staff are not exactly friendly. Truthfully, I have gotten used to this kind of service at Asian restaurants and it doesn't bother me. I have mixed reviews about this place. My fiancee really liked the Thai chicken noodle soup with coconut that she ordered. On the other hand, my Pho beef noodle soup with well done beef and beef brisket was not all that spectacular. The soup stock/ base was not that tasty. Being that the soup was not that tasty, the noodles did not have much taste either. I'd give my dish 5 out of 10 possible points, but my fiancee would score her noodle dish 8.5 out of a possible 10 points. I received terrible service when I first tried it in the spring but the food was good so I decided to return months later and see if the service has improved. Unfortunately, it did not. The best part of this place is the food. Both times I ordered vermicilli bowls. The latest time I had 2 spring rolls, and generous amount of beef and peanuts. It's a filling meal for $9. But don't expect more than here are your menus, and they bring the food and then the bill. There's not much service to refill your drinks. I don't think I have seen the servers ever smile! read more

Close to the chinese superstore so i can stop in after buying groceries. Service is good and the place is large and open with lots of seating. Service is very fast and friendly. Pho is average in quality and the tea is quite good. They don't have chili garlic sauce or the oily chili sauce on the table as a condiment like others do,just sriracha. Spoons and forks are in racks on table. One annoyance is having to get a key on a stick from the cash counter to use the washroom like you would at a gas station. Curtis was in the mood for his favorite soup at one of his favorite restaurants in West Edmonton Mall. The joint is called Hoang Long Noodle House and they specialize in good old fashion Thai food. I've been there a couple of times before and found the food to be different and yummy. The last couple of times I was there I ordered a lemon chicken dish (I told you I like chicken!). The dish came with rice, greens and BBQ ship on a stick! Anything on a stick is fun! The dish was pretty tasty. The second time I went there I tried to change it up a little bit; I got a beef dish that came with noodles, greens and spring rolls. If you are a big fan of crushed peanuts you would enjoy this dish. If you are allergic to peanuts this place would kill you! Peanuts are part of the ingredients (I'm sure you could ask for no peanuts). I have to say the spring rolls were really good! I think they were my favorite part of that dish. So last night we went back to Hoang Long Noodle House and because I wasn't feeling so hot, I decided to keep the meal light. It was also a freezing cold walk from Curtis' house to the mall and a big bowl of soup seemed the right way to go. Curtis always gets the beef sauté soup. I've tried it and it's not so bad but there is something in there that my mouth doesn't like. But Curtis LOVES it... every time we go he gets that soup. I decided to try the rare beef soup. The hot liquid from the soup cooks the meat for you (you just need to resist eating it right away). I have to say this was the best soup I've ever had. It was simple but flavorful there were noodles, green onions and onions, and best of all no peanuts. The blows were huge! Like the size of my head and because the portions were so big we could not finish. Curtis prides himself when he can actually see the bottom of the bowl. Service is fast; they get to you right away and the get the food out to you pretty quick even when the place is full. They don't come around and check on you; they let you be which I find great. It's like in Korea, if you need something you flag a person down otherwise you don't see them buzzing around you as you try to eat. The food reminded of the soup I tried in Korea... so good. Now I know what I want to order every time I go back to Hoang Long Noodle House! Curtis has his soup and now I have mine! read more

I went there last week, and noticed the beautiful renovation. The food looks prettier, but the pho got greasier and pricier. There was barley enough noodles in my pho and had a thick layer of oil on my beef ball noodle soup :( Kinda gross really... Then I ordered the 4 colored rice (Pork chops, Vietnamese meatloaf, beef and springrolls), and same thing with those, covered in oil... On the plus side I do think the renovation gave the restaurant an instant face lift, very pretty decor. If you are at WEM and really craving for pho, this is the better one to go to out of the 2. But if you are looking for good noodles, I would suggest to go to Chinatown. You would get way better quality food for the price you're paying. read more

I'm always a bit torn when I come here for pho. The fact that the prices are a bit more than others is a bit of a turn off, but I feel as though that is more based on their location than what they are serving. The broth is definitely more flavourful than most that I have tried and I do love the chili oil that you can get to accompany your meal. I've heard a lot of complaints about the service here, and it is true it usually seems as though the servers are being rushed but I must admit the food comes out very quick after being ordered which is always something I look for if I'm taking a lunch break in WEM (I work in the mall). Overall, I love coming here for a quick meal but wouldn't purposefully seek it out if I had other choices. read more

I've been to Hoang Long Noodle House a few times and although it generally is not my first choice when it comes to pho, it's location (inside the mall) makes it a convenient place for me when I feel like Vietnamese food. Their pho isn't bad, it also isn't one of the best places to eat in Edmonton. But it is decent. I ordered the rare beef and tendon pho and overall it met my needs. I would recommend coming here for pho if you're in the mall and near the t&t area. I would recommend coming here if you want some Vietnamese food and want to avoid all the fast food places in the mall. The service here was also prompt and the waiter was friendly and polite. I have never had an issue with seating or wait time in this establishment because they are pretty spacious and I have never seen this place packed. I'm reading some of the reviews and I thought it was interesting regarding the customer service that every one said they didn't really get. I realized that I am so used to the way Asian people are that, not smiling, not saying "hello" or "thank you" is so normal. Which by the way isn't how it should be, but this was exactly how the servers at the restaurant was like. Unless you are Asian yourself, you kinda get use to it. We were seated right away with menu, tea and water. The pictures in the menu made all the food pop out and look so tasty. I ordered a Thai chicken soup. This restaurant has never been one that I ever like to go eat at because, the food here feels so fake, the portions are so slim and the prices are so high. It was convenient and we were right in front of this restaurant so we decided to give it another try. Even the drinks and the dessert are overpriced. The restaurant has been renovated a few times and each time they had made it even more modernized and expensive looking. The food however has never been better. Interestingly enough, the food has a really good visual presentation. The bowl was big but the portion of meat and noodle was lacking. If you're getting a dirty look, that's acknowledgment. Yikes! I ate here last Saturday and my god, I am NEVER going to eat there again! My friends and I were eating when I noticed that the waiter who was tall, very skinny, had glasses and a long-sleeved collared shirt, was standing at the register and picking his nose with his pinky finger. And he was really digging in there, it was SO DISGUSTING! I immediately lost my appetite and wanted to throw up when I saw the waiter do that and when I showed my friends, they felt the same. We left soon after. Everything was fine until my friends and I saw that waiter picking his nose as he was standing there. ABSOLUTELY GROSS! I don't understand how the restaurant owner lets their waiters do that? Unbelievable! That is extremely unsanitary because he brought orders out, but people passing by the store could also see him picking his nose at the front of the restaurant. This is a regular stop for me when in West Ed and in need of a food fix. It beats the food court yet doesn't quite require the time commitment of Bourbon Street. There is lots of selection and its fresh. Tonight we stopped in for some spring rolls and noodle bowls. The price point is good, but I have noticed their portion sizes have gone down. This isn't a problem for me though as I can never eat it all anyway! Totally our go-to place for vermicelli bowls! Every time we come back from being away for any length of time, we have to head to Hoang Long at the mall for a F3 with spring rolls, chicken and beef (or expand to the F4 or 5 and add pork and/or prawns!). The meat is grilled to perfection, the vermicelli is always cooked just right and the vegetables are crisp and tasty. Sometimes the service is just adequate. I would highly recommend that they give the tips to the servers, not the owner -- this would also help with some of the issues with service. Always a delicious meal! read more

Bad food and bad service I always find the broth has more MSG than other places. They also add more sugar than other places Today I had the worst experience here. I was with a friend and my son who was playing with the plastic spoon the server tells my son to not play with it... my son is 18 months old. I thought that was extremely rude since my son wasn't being loud or breaking the plastic spoon. He was taking the spoons and holding it and putting it back on the table. Then I order my food. Another server comes up to me asking if I want onion and cilantro in my soup. Yes, I do. She comes and ask me again if I want cilantro and onion. Again, yes I do. My soup comes out with the wrong noodles and missing cilantro and onion. I sent it back and told another server I want cilantro and onion. Within a few minute that same lady came and asked me if I want cilantro and onions. I said yes.... and waved down another server to make sure this was clear I want cilantro and onions in my soup. read more

When we entered the restaurant, they were confused as to where to sit us since we had two strollers, even though it wasn't busy at all. The price is over rated for the quality of food, they even served burnt food. We requested three times for water and yet it was still a struggle. We asked for blanched bean sprouts because one of our party is pregnant. When they brought the bean sprouts out, it clearly wasn't cooked at all. They even argued with us about how cooked it was. Service was terrible. We asked for separate bowls for the kids and there was still food crusted on it. I'm not coming back, that's for sure. read more

Wasn't even busy. They also made sure to hand me the dirtiest fork in their inventory, it had a pea-sized yellow piece of the last customer's meal clinging to it. It was very visible and either the waiter planned this or is thoroughly unqualified for failing to acknowledge this. The chill exotic Asian is misleading for its terrible service. I have been wanting to try some good Vietnamese food since moving to Edmonton. I can say this was not a good experience. When I walked in to the place, I got seated right away but nobody came to take my order for at least 20 Min's. I could understand if it was really busy. It was like 35% full at the time. I ordered a Vermicelli bowl with all the fixings. It came as a huge portion but the quality was nothing really that great. When I was eating, I had nobody come by and see if everything was OK or if I wanted anything extra. When I was done, it took me another 15 Min's to get the bill. Oh wait, I didn't get the bill, I had to go and ask for it. I can say the food is mediocre and the service is the worst in the mall thus far. read more

After driving a couple of days through the Yukon and BC, it's easy to work up an appetite for some hot and delicious comfort food. For me, Pho is always my stand by for such a situation. I do not know my way around Alberta, so being a tourist, I stop by what most see as the only bastian of civilization in western canada - the west Edmonton mall of course! (aka the place that god forgot.) however, despite all it's ups and downs, i did happen to find this place and get a nice marrowey bowl of "Beef Noodle Soup". It arrived quickly, accompanied by a fresh glass of cantaloupe juice and reinvigorated me for my next few days of travel. I doubt i will ever return to the god forsaken place that is the WEM, but if i do, it will definately be because of this restaurant. read more

My first time here was last week while doing some last minute shopping with my boyfriend before Christmas. The service was limited and the food was just okay. We ordered the fried quail and the vermicelli bowl with everything in it. The portions were small for the price. The food was not terrible. One star. The place wasn't too busy, and reasonably clean. One star. Service was slow and unfriendly. The server unceremoniously dumped napkins at us, nearly dumped my bowl of steaming hot soup into my lap, and when asked if leftovers could be packaged up proceeded to do so in the most unhygienic way possible, wiping the container with our used napkins off of our table and THROWING down the spoon out of the bowl and onto the table splashing two of us with soup. Bathrooms were dirty and you need to go ask for A KEY??? Was not aware I was dining at a gas station. Minus one star. I will not be going back. read more
