The best place we have stayed in Ludington! We cannot wait to come back next year. Everything you need is right at the resort.

But Nader's also has the word "suites" in its name, so that appeased my snobby side enough to take a chance on this place. And I'm glad I did! If only all motels were like this one. First of all, Nader's offers suites, which come with full kitchens: a stove/oven, full refrigerator, silverware and dishes, a kitchen sink, a living room that transforms into a pull-out bed, and a little kitchen table. There are two TVs in the suites, plus two full-sized beds. It's all very tidy and nice for families, because you have so many comforts of home. The one thing that wasn't my favorite about the suite is that there isn't a bathroom sink. You have to use the kitchen sink for everything. Which I'm sure most people don't care about, so your mileage may vary. But the rest of the hotel amenities offset that minor inconvenience. Things like the Adirondack chairs that circle around a big fire pit that's lit in the evenings. The free bikes that you can just pick up and ride around Ludington. The basketball court and little area with corn hole, shuffle board and giant Connect Four. The outdoor pool (that's heated, but not warm). The free wifi and free parking. The location -- oh man, the location! You're literally a four-minute walk from the beach. All of these things make Nader's a great place to stay for families. And other families must agree, because we saw lots of them during our stay.

Unfortunately, our experience at Waterside Resort was extremely disappointing due to several issues that should not have occurred. We reserved our cottage in June 2025 at the end of that summer's vacation for a July 2026 stay and placed a good-faith deposit at the time of booking. In January 2026, we received our invoice and, as instructed, paid half of the rental amount after confirming the payment arrangement with the owner. We were told the remaining balance would be due at check-in. The day before our scheduled arrival, I called to confirm our check-in time. During that call, I was shocked to be informed that our cottage had been rented to someone else. This created unnecessary stress just before our vacation and reflected a serious breakdown in the reservation process. When we arrived, we were placed in a cottage that did not have air conditioning, despite temperatures reaching 88°F. The cottage became unbearably hot, and we ultimately had to purchase our own air conditioning unit just to make the stay tolerable. What made this situation even more frustrating was learning from resort employees that the AC unit was known to be broken and that the resort had reportedly been aware for approximately a week before our arrival. If this information was known in advance, it should have been communicated to us before we arrived, and alternative accommodations should have been arranged. Unfortunately, this was only one of the pieces of information that we discovered that was not communicated in good faith. On my birthday, we were then asked to move again to another cottage that did have air conditioning. While we appreciated finally having AC, the replacement cottage was smaller, and having to pack up and relocate in the middle of our vacation was both inconvenient and frustrating. The professionalism of the management was also concerning. At check-in, the manager had a 15-year-old handle the transaction instead of assisting us directly. Given the reservation issues we had already experienced, this did not inspire confidence that the situation was being managed appropriately. I do want to recognize the two high school students working at the resort. They were phenomenal throughout our stay--professional, courteous, and genuinely helpful. They assisted us with the air conditioning unit and did everything they could to help despite circumstances that were clearly beyond their control. They deserve recognition for their outstanding customer service. The resort did offer us the use of a pontoon boat for two hours as a gesture to make up for the inconvenience. While we appreciated the offer, we chose not to utilize it because it did not address the significant issues that had already disrupted our vacation. This was the first year under new ownership and management. I do have sympathy for the challenges that can come with a business transition, it is also not the fault of the customers who had booked and paid in good faith. After 26 years of visiting Ludington, this was by far our most disappointing lodging experience. Mistakes can happen, especially during a change in ownership, but the combination of the reservation error, being placed in a cottage without working air conditioning during the summer heat, learning that the issue had reportedly been known in advance, having to purchase our own AC unit, moving cottages in the middle of our vacation, and the lack of professional management significantly impacted our stay. I hope the owners and management take steps to improve their reservation process, communication, and customer service so future guests do not experience similar issues. However, if nothing changes there are many resorts and lodging accommodations in Ludington that can alternately be used.

It's not a high-end hotel, nor does it pretend to be. It is a reasonably priced establishment, very reasonably priced, that is located within a stones throw of Lake Michigan (I have a good arm). You can't beat the view from your balcony, and believe me, the lake and sunsets, aren't the only things to view. As I'm writing this, I saw a group walk by. They saw me watching and laughed. I wondered why. Turns out that my feet were hanging between the slats in the balcony rail, and I had wore a big hole in one of my socks! Oh well, not as suave as I use to be. The young lady who checked me in must have liked my smile, cause the room she gave me was huge. I found the room clean, and everything worked as it should. Very quiet at night. The harbor is right to the left of Snyders, and you can watch the boats head in and out. Especially the SS Badger, which is a big ferry that can transport you and your vehicle across the lake over to Wisconsin. It's pretty cool seeing that big ship pass by and sound it's horn. You don't have to take my advice, but rest assured that you'll do just fine by booking with Snyders. Quick Tip: Take the walk out to the triple "L" (Leaning Lighthouse of Ludington). It's only an easy mile round trip. Tell the person inside that Alex J. sent you. They'll probably say, who in the hell is Alex J?
