While I was working at Hobby Lobby, another employee put coke and ecstasy (CVS test kit) in my steel water bottle in the breakroom. When I made a formal complaint about it, I was let go while the other employee who was spiking my water bottle was able to continue working at the store. I felt like I had been punished for reporting a crime and that Hobby Lobby's Headquarters and management would rather turn a blind eye to ignore or cover up crimes committed by other employees. read more

Bought an hourglass from this store & they put it in a bag with heavy pieces & it was broke when I got home. No idea where my receipt is and they can't seem to "find it" with scanning my credit card. I looked up their corporate policy online & it said you could exchange without a receipt. Turns out this Christian based store practices deceit as that may be the corporate policy online but the store manager can choose otherwise at their own discretion. I went in to purchase a bolt of material that I found online, no where did it say with that item that they don't sell it in the store... apparently at this particular store they stopped selling it by the bolt...yesterday.. I went up front to speak to a manager to ask if an exception could be made as it was for a fundraiser, and I could purchase the same thing online... they had to call twice for a manager and I stood there for 23 min before a lady came.. she was curt and refused to listen as to why I wanted it.. she said "we were told to break them down yesterday.. we can't sell it this way anymore goodbye.." and she just left.. there were several associates around the fabric Dept and one whispered to me that the Liberty store hadn't broken their display down yet so I might be able to get one there.. but to call first... I did and was able to obtain a bolt from them...if I ever step foot in this store again it will be because of the heads up from that associate.. I won't be returning to this HB! in short- Customer Service and Helpfulness Would rather throw things away than mark them down ZERO STARS In general, I love hobby lobby and shop often at which ever location I'm nearest. However, after today, I will only be shopping at the Liberty location. At Liberty the staff members are always easy to find on out on the floor and are always friendly and helpful, at least in my many experiences there. I have never had an issue buying cracked pots at a marked down price, anywhere that sell planters. It is a win/win because it gets broken pots off the shelf and because I don't mind gluing and painting over the cracks or chips, especially when I get them at a marked down price. It is difficult to find help at the Barry Rd location, and when you finally track someone down they aren't very helpful. Today, I set the cracked pots aside from the intact pots and then (after not being able to find anyone to ask about them on the floor) I went to the cash registers to ask a cashier if anyone was available to help me in the planter section. She raised her voice to ask "Who is in charge of floral today?" to one of three ladies standing at the door way counting incoming shoppers. The lady, who was about twenty feet from me and who I could not even see over the cash registers says to me "What do you need?" She didn't acknowledge the cashier, she already seemed put off and was not using a very flat tone. I explained, being friendly even though she was not, that I have the cracked pots pulled aside and am asking for a marked down price. She says "We don't do that here" When I asked what they will do with the cracked pots she says "sell them" I pointed out they would not be able to sell cracked pots at full price and some of the pots were almost broken. She said "we throw those away." I asked "wouldn't you rather mark them down and I will buy them?" She said "No" still being unnecessarily rude and the other girls standing with her were just staring at me. So, I turned and started walking away and she said in a snotty tone "I can order you new ones" again no helpful tone, to me it sounded like she was just being a smart aleck so I did not respond. I made sure I had my belongings out of the cart and was offended enough to leave it, with the supplies I had already gathered and was going to purchase, where it was next to the cracked pots. That is not something I would usually do but there was no way I was going to buy anything after the way she was talking to me. I did let her know on the way out the door the pots were set aside and ready for the dumpster, which wasn't the best way to handle the frustration, but she didn't care anyway. It is irritating enough to me that she would rather throw things away then mark them down, and that she was comfortable to be so rude, even with zero provocation. I've worked in customer service for almost 15 years and can not think of a time it would be acceptable to speak to anyone this way. She could have simply said "I'm not able to do that, sorry, however I can order new pots" and left it at that. I would like to recommend they be more careful when stocking the clay pot. For the amount that was cracked they might as well put them straight into the dumpster. read more

I was looking for supplies to make a wedding gift for a friend and the lady gladly pointed into the 4 directions where the items I requested will be. I later was helped by another friendly associate who helped me understand the reusablity of the product. At that moment my daughter decided to cry of hunger & as I scrambled to find a chair an associate gladly directed me to a craft room and a manager who opened the door for me to nurse my daughter comfortably. I'm so happy that the people at this location were so nice and helpful that I was able to shop and still browse after my daughter was fed, without having to buy items I'm not sure of and rush out the store. Lots of crafting options. Friendly helpful workers. Parent friendly. Only one 40% coupon allowed per person and visit. read more

Hobby Lobby in Kansas City was the first craft store I had ever been in. I'm not a crafter, but damn! I felt like I had been plopped down in a woman's wonderland of crap to make your house look awesome. You can loose your self in a flurry of crazed visions of potential for neat stuff you can make... of course if you're smart you'll get a grip on yourself before you whip out your credit card. The first time I went to Hobby Lobby, we didn't have any craft stores back home in NJ. I was so happy when I heard we were finally getting a Michael's craft store... but ultimately I was disappointed because Hobby Lobby is a million times cooler and bigger. That's not to say that Michael's isn't nice, but Hobby Lobby is a Mecca!!! I'm not even going to try to list all the awesome stuff they have. Chances are if you want it, they have it. read more

This place offers such a great way to spend a morning or afternoon shopping for fun gifts for family and friends. Because it's a crafts and arts shop, there's a ginormous selection of items to choose from. Anything from flowers, to woodwork, to clocks, to metal castings, to puzzles, to bathroom projects... This place has you covered! Another nice thing is that there are very often sales that go on in this store. I recently purchased 2 classic soda wall art decorations and 1 living room wall sentiment, and my total cost came to only $25! Amazing. The location of the store is ideal, as it's located just off Barry Road behind Walmart and Lowes. There's a massive parking lot it shares with a strip mall. There's even a library close by, as well as many other little shops/restaurants so you can park in one place and spend a nice time shopping in many stores while not having to move your car. My mother and I were at this location on Saturday, August 3rd. I found the perfect shelf for my daughters room but there was only 1 and i needed 2. I asked an employee if she could call and ask the other location if they had 1, she called and they didn't have it. I, then, asked her if i could order it. She said yes, started filling out a "rain check ". After filling out the slip the employee, Michelle informed me that i May or may not get the shelf because there is no way of knowing their inventory so to call Tuesday. I called today, Tuesday, to make sure my shelf did come in so i could stop and purchase it. Michelle, same employee from Saturday, answered the phone. She put me on a brief hold to check and see if it had came in. When returning back to the phone she told me that since there was 1 item and the receiving employee wasn't there then she doesn't know if it was there because it could have been put on the sales floor?!?!?! Then she told me the best thing to do is to come in store tomorrow and look myself. I said, "can you please just ask someone to go look on floor to see if it's out there". Nope no one is here that can do that. I was shocked that #1 and item i ordered (requested or whatever you want to call it) may have just been put in their sales floor where any customer could buy it. #2 I was told to come look for it myself because employees were incapable of helping?!?! Just because you date a product when you put it out on the shelf, doesn't mean that's when I bought it. I purchased some knitting needles that immediately broke upon using them. When I took them back, because I didn't have the receipt they refused to believe I had purchased them recently and wanted to go by the date on the tag. Which was a year and a half ago. The manager kept pointing at the tag and saying "This says January, 2013." Yes, that's when you put them on the shelf, not when I bought them! Finally she offered to exchange them for another pair exactly alike. Why would I want them? They are total crap and break when you knit with them. And you'd think that knitting needles would be good for knitting. That IS what they're designed for. But like 99% of Hobby Lobby's merchandise, it's all cheap crap made in China. I told her to keep them and throw them out, and that I would never be back. Go to Michael's instead, it's a mile or so west in Zona Rosa. read more

Hobby Lobby is a fine store for its customers. For its employees, not so much. Any company that shows such disdain for its employees does not deserve to be patronized. A woman's birth control decisions should be left to her, her doctor and her partner, not someone sitting in a corporate office, someone who likely has no idea of who their employees are, what their needs are and what their lives are like. I shopped almost exclusively at Hobby Lobby for my crafts projects in the past. I'd like to do so again, but until they decide to treat their employees with more respect and dignity and let them decide what's best for them, I'll shop elsewhere. read more
