The selection was inconsistent which just means they have a certain focus - on Japanese models and on recreating landscapes and tracks and trails and what not for cars or trains. Very cool selection for those 2 things. And it happens we WERE there for Japanese models so we were perfectly happy. Large selection of model-making supplies. Definitely would go here before we order supplies online in the future. Yes, the greeting was half-hearted - but both people there did greet us and what do you expect - they were busy talking about hobby stuff :) It's a bit dated in terms of the space, seems a bit tired, but I think "in this economy" they are presenting themselves reasonably. What a trek from Shoreline to Tukwila back on 7/6/20, but The Homie wanted to check this spot out for all things related to aviation models. This location has a vast parking lot, large selections of model cars, planes, trains, ships and other hobby type items for all ages. The only thing during pandemic, there is a time limit to peruse the entire store. It helps to ask for assistance from the counter staff or be a strategic shopper. Been to the store and called within the past week. First time ever inside a hobby town store. Walked in and no hello, how you doing, welcome in, no acknowledge of my existence. I was there to buy two lipos and a charger. I waited while old dude helped the customer already there. Standing at the end of the counter, waiting and waiting to see if old dude would eventually acknowledge my existence and maybe say I'll be with you as soon as I'm finished with this customer. He never even looked in my direction. Awesome! Soooo glad I came to spend my money here. Almost 10 minutes of no acknowledgment of my existence, and I walked out to take my business elsewhere. Yesterday I decided to give them another chance. I needed some small parts for Losi and Traxxas. So I decided I'll call before driving 30 miles to bring them my business. After 7 minutes of on hold time, they just hung up on me. I called back and now, no answer at all! That's the last time I fuck with that shop! I'll order online from Amazon. I'll drive to Olympia and visit Bigfoot Hobbies. What's with these locally owned RC stores. I went to Tacoma RC a few weeks ago and got the same type of BS from them old dudes as well. No welcome in, didn't say hi even when I approached the counter. Glared at my Filipina wife and our son. To me it felt like some racial BS. I vowed NEVER to do business there again and now Hobby Town. I tried to support locally owned RC businesses, but each time those businesses appeared to not want my business at all. I have an overwhelming urge to use profanity. That's how poor the service and lack of respect to a customer was. (Backstory: Drove an hour to get there after work. So I didn't look all that presentable when I showed up. In fact, I probably didn't even smell presentable.) Our initial interaction was greeted with a nice "how may I help you". My first item request was shown to me promptly. Unsatisfied since it wasn't exactly what I was looking for, I implored for further more items and met with a never more In stock . This cycle of asking, receiving, not quite what needing, and further pleading repeated twice however fleeting. By now it's clear to me the The clerk isn't going to help me so I begin to browse the store for what I need. I finalize my purchases without succeeding during which I realize the parts I meeting or on the shelves behind the front counter. By now the store manager is helping me check out the parts that I actually need which was to say slightly more helpful. After checking out a second time I can hear in the background the employee making passive aggressive insults about me. After spending nearly $100 on parts for a hobby I'm likely going to return them all. This is a horrible establishment that insults customers that aren't on the "A List". I have a son and we are exploring RC cars together. This store has more inventory than the Redmond location and most of the staff are fairly knowledgeable about the RC cars. That being said, I highly suggest you do your independent research because there are no returns, ONLY store credit. Other tips that you probably already know but maybe you are a beginner like me: 1. Always have the store test your LiPo batteries before you leave the store. 2. Make sure your model comes with a battery AND charger. 3. Buy an extra battery. 4. Start with a NiMH battery system model. 5. If you want to explore Alki beach get the paddle tires. 6. IF you get a LiPO model make sure you get a LiPO charging bag and watch all the safety videos. 7. Get canned air or an air compressor so you can properly clean your new model. I'll update this review later once I learn more. I purchased a Traxxas Maxx and Traxxas Stampede. Lastly, don't be intimidated by your lack of knowledge but do some independent research or you will irritate the store associates with your dumb questions like I did. Love this Hobby Town as they often comes great deals in warships and other naval model kits , when Skyway Model Shop doesn't. It always a fun thing hanging out looking for Ultraman electronic robots and stuff. Found quite a lot my childhood characters at this store. Before they had woohoo deals as some of the items went 15% off. Spend $29.55 getting a Hasegawa 1:350 Battleship Iowa. I was glad it was the most sophisticated and good looking model I've bought. It even had replacements of smokestacks in a separate bag. Worth the price and I enjoyed assembling it. Thinking to get a WW2 fleet collection. Highly recommend to any model lovers/fans . One thing I suggest: The store needs to improve its cleanliness due to people spitting outside. read more

It was my first time here, and I wasn't sure what to expect. My boyfriend wanted to look around and see what new hobby he could get into. The staff was really pleasant and asked if we needed any assistance. We just said we were browsing at the moment. The store was clean and packed full of boxes. Boxes full of model airplanes, games, toy cars, and even bottles of paint. I personally don't know much about model planned, droids, or toy cars, so I cannot tell how reasonable how the prices were, but the board games I felt were a bit pricier than other stores such as Target or Wal-Mart. It just might be as good as it gets for support, and a knowledge base specifically for R/C, and rock crawlers for sure! I was having an issue getting my transmitter & receiver working together, worked fine yesterday. They pointed me to a new system shy of $100, I asked if they would look at what Iv'e got. "No problem, bring it on in." With the correct electrical jumper, the TX & RX were happy again, I was pleased I didn't spend $100. Because this is one of my husband's #1 favorite places to spend money, it has become one of my go to places to purchase him gifts. There are gifts for people of all ages ranging from inexpensive, to items over $500. My husband owns an RC car and it needs cleaning and usually a new part after every time it has been run. It gets spendy. Instead of trying to figure out each intricate part that he could possibly need, I usually resort to a gift certificate or a body for the truck. Hobbytownusa has so many truck bodies that as you are sorting through them they are falling out of the rack! And that's a plus when searching for the perfect gift. Customer service is trash, I came in willing to buy whatever part I needed to fix my Rustler, asked them to take a look at it. He replied "We don't do that anymore." Told me to buy a new one. Didn't even want to help me troubleshoot the thing. So I left and went to another place, the guy picked it up and figured it out in 5 minutes. I waited for ten minutes while some guy got rung up, chatting about battery life and control maintenance. After he wrapped up, I stepped up and put my twenty dollar purchase on the counter. It makes me sad because there used to be several noteworthy hobby shops in the Seattle area that were owned by enthusiasts who cultivated relationships with their customers. Those days are long gone, so for the last decade or two Hobbytown in Tukwila is the closest thing in a pinch when I need something specific that I can't find anywhere else and don't want to wait for on-line delivery. I don't like writing reviews, especially negative ones, but repeatedly I feel out of place every time I walk through the door here. If I'm not under 30 and am there for virtually anything other than r/c stuff, I barely get the time of day. Help for non r/c customers is non-existent, and when I dare to interrupt them from whatever it is they're doing behind the counter (standing there, doing 'something'), I feel like "I" owe "them" an apology for doing just that...interrupting them. As if my patronage is an inconvenience. If you're standing behind the cash register and I walk up to the counter, I should not have to stand there for several minutes (patiently) before being acknowledged. I even tried to make a light-hearted joke the last time I was in there (a product I was looking for had been moved) and I got a snarky reply, like it was my fault for not knowing they had moved it. The disappointing part of this experience is that every time I have gone in and received this kind of reception, there are two or three customers at the r/c counter that are being treated like family. I am glad that the other people who are writing reviews for this store have had great experiences. I am, unfortunately, just not one of them. read more

I bought an RC boat at the Hobby Town in Tukwila. I was told by one of the salespeople that it was a self-righting boat. I tested it first thing when I got it home and found out it wasn't. A few days later I took it back to exchange it for a different boat. The salesperson said he wouldn't exchange it because it had been opened. I was told that I would need to talk to the manager, who wasn't in, if I wasn't satisfied with their decision. I called the manager a couple days later who accused me of lying. He said his salesperson wouldn't have told me that the boat was self-righting if it wasn't, and that I was making that up so they'd let me exchange it. I was in total disbelief. I've never written a negative review before but the customer service at this store was awful. The manager clearly has no idea what he's doing. read more

Are employees supposed to memorize the entire inventory as well as what each product does and doesn't work with?? That's ridiculous. Look it up yourself. Went to the location to purchase a new rc car they seemed helpful and I purchased a car and all the parts to run it. Took it out for a weekend trip to race rc cars with friends. Once I got there to set the truck up I realized it did not work with the parts I bought from them what they failed to mention is that the car is not set up to run on the battery's I purchase. I called them to ask if it could be manually programmed (very unhelpful and unfriendly over the phone if you call for support) and they told me I had to come in and buy a part and hook it up to a computer to program. You would think they would have either sold me the part at time of purchase and told it needed to be done. Now I have to sit and watch everyone else race there cars. Ask them if I could return it even though it was not used they refused. Waiting till Monday to talk to the owners for review Update to come after I talk to John the owner. read more

And part of playing with Rc cars is fixing them they do break but are super easy to fix!! They'll even help you fix it in the store if you bring it in. My son and I break them all the time unfortunately we're kinda hard on stuff!! But hobbytown loves us!! Dave has been very helpful with recommending good replacement parts that are a little stronger. This place is awesome! I don't know much about RC cars but wanted to start getting into it. They were all very helpful and knowledgeable. Can't remember his name but he set me up with a Slash 4x4 and some other stuff and I was on my way. He said if I needed any help just call or come back to the store. I recently went back to get upgraded parts and my service was just as good as the first visit. Brandon was super helpful/honest and even helped me pick out a drone for my little one. Very rude store employees... who calls himself the maneger Josh, which I found out he's just an "assistant"... who tells me rudely I get what I paid for. Week before that, I bought things woth +$300 and peices broke that weren't supposed to be broken. So when I went back to resolve the problem and the two guys starts mocking me and tells me to buy another car. Not all products are made 100% perfect. F' this place. I just got back from my third trip tonight. I have a hpi sprint 2 and needed wheels and tires. Asked them if it had to be an off set wheel (3mm front 6mm back) he said oh no thats mainly for looks...So I buy these zero offset wheels for a tamiya ferrari and some hpi vintage tires (third trip later) and a tuner for my esc. So get home put the wheels on the car and they hit the control arm in the front (3mm offset) and dont even turn on rear (6mm offset). So I was like wtf and took them back and they guy behind the counter said oh just trim the tab inside the wheel (i think that gives it strength) so after I grind most of that away they "fit". Then comes trip three, I take the vintage hpi tires out and when you put them on a standard wheel they look cone shaped (I asked if they took a special wheel). So f'ing livid by now I go back to this place and return the tires and the tuner and they are trying to sell me different tires all the while saying oh those vintage tires should fit on any wheel we have never had that happen before. I would have returned the wheels but I ground on them so they would fit and even though he told me to do so..you know how that goes. I have easily thrown away $200 in wheels/tires because I get oh yeah it should fit. SO BUYER BEWARE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE GOING IN THERE FOR. read more

This is a good hobby store. Even though it is small, it is packed with stuff. They have Pinewood Derby supplies that are very cool - stickers, pre-cut cars, glue on weights, paints, etc. They have tons of models, trains, Legos, radio controlled vehicles, and lots of other stuff. When my son had to make a diarama for school, we found a kit there with everything that he needed. read more
