The temporary bathrooms are now out of service. This is crazy. The new bathrooms are finally completed and they're really so much better. There are more stalls or is to wash your hands however they're not keeping up with a cleaning schedule because every time I come in there at the end of the day on the way home from work the bathroom isn't clean. read more

Hoboken Terminal is a unique, charming, yet also chaotic hub for NYC commuters. The architecture is amazing, though you'll often spot some homeless folks among the crowd. Despite this, the terminal offers great options to get to NYC, whether you choose the bus, NJ Transit, or the PATH train. They have helpful customer service reps throughout the terminal in case you have any questions. They also make it very simple to travel to MetLife Stadium for events. It def has a combination of history and hustle, making every trip an adventure. Not to mention it's also a few steps away from some great skyline views of NYC! read more

This station is a constant MESS , there are homeless people everywhere , the bathrooms are always dirty because homeless people bathe in the sink . They closed half of the stalls and the ones that are open are either dirty or occupied by homeless people . This is my hub to get into New York City. Aside from the gorgeous architecture and history of the Lackawanna Station, it's right on the Hoboken pier park. Stunning views of New York across the Hudson when it's clear. Inside the station there's a Dunkin' Donuts, and other shops. The flower stall is one of my favorite photo ops. It's almost always there to greet me with beautiful blossoms and the lovely sent of lilies. Unless it's closed, and the station becomes a bit gloomy. The station is usually bustling with lots of people. It's a bit scary & lonely after 10pm, but I haven't had any issues yet. Here's a positive story. I have an old phone that I use for audiobooks. I had accidentally left it somewhere inside. I used find my phone and was able to locate it at the station, but couldn't keep searching because my train was leaving. The station attendant actually went into the phone and found my emergency contact. Called it to let me know my phone was there. Had I not used FMF to come back to the station for it, their reaching out certainly would've informed me that my phone was safe. That's effort you don't see often. The cashiers are helpful and friendly. Ferry attendant not so much. Bathrooms are usually, mostly clean. Free so that's a good thing to keep in your mental travel file. You can get all sorts of transportation brochures for the trains and buses here. You can also catch the Path or a ferry to Manhattan. So much good stuff going on, and very convenient. read more

A grand station that harkens back to the old fashioned days when rail was king and people who traveled on it were elegant. The Hoboken Terminal is the main station for nine New Jersey Transit commuter lines as well as one Metro-North Railroad line, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and the PATH subway. There's even a short walk to the NY Waterway terminal. This is the ninth-busiest railroad station in North America! I arrived from Hillsdale NJ on the Pascack Valley Line and wasted no time connecting to the PATH station. The signage was great and I had no trouble finding my way. Similar for the return, I arrived on PATH but had about 90 minutes until the next train. There are comfortable seating, restrooms, a few places to get something to eat in the terminal and some restaurants outside nearby. Hoboken Terminal just has such a historical look to it and it is. Connecting to other NJ Transit railways, it also serves people on foot and whom look to take the ferry across the Hudson. Considering how much it's used it's very well kept which may be a little easier to do then for NJ and NY's Penn station given the sheer amount of people that commute through them. The size and architecture are to be appreciated it. It has a Beaux Arts style, French look that sticks out. High ceilings and everything is functional. Apparently there was a "Golden age of rail travel", likely before rise then use and ownership of automobiles. During this time huge numbers of people came through here. It is great that such a grand looking place serves a major function while at the same time upholding it's historical value and is able to be kept up all at the same time. Take that in next time you come through Hoboken Terminal, even if you do it every day. read more

Interesting old rail terminal. In the lobby is a cute little mechanized display labelled "Railmen for Children". It has a donation slot, but you/your kids can push the button for free and watch the model train go around. Railmen for Children is a charity organization that does the Santa Train every year to bring gifts to needy children. read more

My partner and I stopped at this historic place prior to the event. Opened in 1907, this majestic Hoboken Terminal is the last survivor of the great Hudson River waterfront stations in NJ still serving in its original function. A beautiful piece of classic architecture still serves it's purpose as a transit hub for bus, train, ferry and PATH service. Commuters from the surrounding areas use it daily to travel to NYC as well as places beyond. The terminal is maintained well and makes you take pause as new architecture just does not evoke that of our historical places. The main waiting room has its Tiffany stained-glass skylight and beautiful bronze chandeliers. If you are by the waterfront, it would be a great place just to see history. read more

Hoboken Terminal is a large and beautiful building. It may suck for those not familiar with the bus and train lines. The place is so large and it takes some walking. It does have signs pointing you in the right direction. They have services for busses, rails, and subways. It's a beautiful old building. Some dining options are inside. They also have a liquor store. A lot of restaurants are nearby. You can walk along the water and see the nice parks. If you want to get to New York, get on the PATH train to the World Trade Center. It's a simple line that goes back and forth. To get to other places in New Jersey, you can get on a bus or the light rail. It's usually busy but it can get really crowded at peak hours. It usually has the PATH train every few minutes it seems. This is one of the cheapest ways into New York. read more

A small diorama in the back of the waiting room. Feels like an old-school train station. Part of the back area has been under renovation for a while; not sure what they're doing with it, but there's no parking except at metered spots, so you have to stay in your car if you're waiting. I was born in Hoboken in the 70's. I grew up here and in West New York and in the city. I have an affinity for the area. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much my wife would fall in love with Hoboken, now that her office is located here, and the entire area has been almost completely upscaled since I was a kid. I have a very specific set of memories of Lackawanna R.R. and the station, which currently houses the New Jersey Transit Rail lines, The Ferry into NYC, PATH, and just outside--the Light Rail train system. There are numerous points to sit and view the city and there is food available. However---this station is in dire need of an upgrade and renovation. The outside waiting area is virtually non-existent. Especially, if you have very late evening/early morning trains. Such as a PATH train returning from NYC. You pretty much are stuck waiting outside until 4-5AM. I can understand that this is a function of preventing vagrancy from squatting in the station. But a few benches and some night security wouldn't hurt. Overall, it is exceptionally convenient to have everything available here at this station. But my other gripes are about the scheduling. The train lines are not consistent in their overall cycles. People getting out of work in Hoboken, who are often off at 5 PM won't have options to leave until usually 5:30-6 PM. This issue is not necessarily at fault of the station itself but it is worthy to note that the schedules are weird. While there is an old world charm about the train station waiting area and some of the interior, it like the exterior, is in heavy need of a face lift. It doesn't need to be modernized like the Staten Island Ferry Station in the city. But it should be preserved and have proper caretakers mind the station daily. read more

I came here for the first time and compared to NY Penn, this place is amazing. First, it's got BENCHES where people can WAIT (what a concept!) and it's got a great architectural look more like Grand Central classy vs. Penn eyesore. Even more amazing, they had a list of all the trains and tracks they'd be on the rest of the night. As in...you don't have to wait until 10 minutes before as a huge wave of people darts for a track as soon as it's posted. It's like...you can know ahead of time and plan accordingly and not make a last minute mob dash to a track. So these things ARE possible and NJTransit does know about this, and yet communicating into Penn is just the worst. That waiting area is small, unorganized, and uncomfortable. This is a station I would love to commute into daily. read more

At first I was afraid, I was petrified... Yes, I was actually afraid to go to the terminal at night. I'm so innocent, so frail, so...so what! I was visiting Hoboken/NY for work and I had to use the PATH to get into the city. I had to purchase tickets for about 20 people, so I had some questions about using the ticketing machine. I picked up the blue phone and spoke with a very nice operator who stated she'd send someone over to help me. A couple minutes later, a handsome stranger came walking toward me to help me out. He was very friendly and helped me get tickets I needed for 20 round trip fares NJ/NY and back. If I ever make it back out to NJ, I'll definitely stay in Hoboken and just PATH it into NYC! Only negative -- I am not here often but the recent visit there were several people loitering, a couple sleeping on the benches and a couple on the floors which I initially thought little of - until one seemingly angry guy lying on the floor was yelling obscenities about sucking (something)... Likely harmless, but it was mid day and having a relatively small seating area -- If I had my son with me I would have been uneasy hoping for a security person to thwart his outbursts ... If you gotta wait for a train or the light rail this isn't a bad place to do it. The building is gorgeous and evokes memories of steam engines and parasols. There are decent snack bars there and the newsstand has the best cheese pretzels ever. Keep in mind that I love trains so that could be affecting this review. The trains are usually on schedule. One of the top 5 busiest stations in NJ Transit's rail network (behind NY Penn, Newark Penn, and Princeton Junction), and it's located on the Hudson riverfront. I've been coming here sporadically since I was a child (~2001), and frequently/near weekly basis since 2015, its a transport hub for those wanting to go to/from their destinations. The clock tower on top is a replica made in 2007 when it was famous for being a beacon for travelers everywhere. Gorgeous architecture from the "good old days" when it was a part of the Lackawanna railroad company (when rail travel was huge in NJ and ferries were mandatory to get to NYC), long distance rail (think Hoboken to Philly, or Hoboken to Buffalo NY) was possible, and even if those days are a part of a bygone era, the feeling's still there. Mostly diesel trains come here, and others are electrified (the tracks that have overhead power lines). There's 9 train lines here: Main Line (runs for Passaic County towns before merging with Bergen Line at Ridgewood), Bergen Line (runs for Bergen County towns before merging with Main Line at Ridgewood, both end at Suffern, NY/Waldwick, NJ), Pascack Valley Line (connects towns at mid Bergen County before ending at Spring Valley, NY), Morristown Line to Hackettstown/Dover (weekends). Gladstone Line to Gladstone, Montclair-Boonton Line to (depending on the train) Hackettstown/Mount Olive/Dover/MSU/Bay St, North Jersey Coast Line (a handful can actually go to the end at Bay Head due to being diesel), Meadowlands Line (whenever an event happens at MetLife Stadium, and if/when American Dream mall opens in East Rutherford), Port Jervis Line (a lengthy trip all the way to the far corner of Orange County, Ny), and one Raritan Valley train Mondays-Fridays inbound. Since it's a transport hub, it also specializes in other routes as well, such as a PATH station underground, having 2 weekday routes to 33rdSt, or World Trade Center (usually 10-15min rides on those days), and one late PM/weekend route for Journal Square-33rd St (you'd have to transfer to Grove St to go to WTC/Newark) with longer trips and longer wait times. Next is the light rail station at the southern end, a part of the HBLR, offering most of their routes here. Then there's the ferry, a historical relic of getting to NYC, with multiple stops by NY Waterway throughout most ports from lower Manhattan-Midtown, and a Seastreak route from the highlands in Raritan Bay. (Quickest, but costly). There's also several buses that connect cities along the area, and a few going to NYC. Also, you're a stones throw away from the heart of Hoboken and Jersey City, with multitude of options you can check on Yelp! Restaurants and bars await! My experience, it's a reliable station, usually bustling on weekdays (especially on the working hour), trains coming in and out solid. Commuters taking the PATH or ferry across to NYC, and a better experience if you'd want to go to Lower Manhattan w/o contending with NY Penn. The homeless issue isn't as problematic as NY/Newark Penn, but hope it can be remedied! I've never used the Dunkin Donuts or Bar/Grill and convenience store here, but it has its uses if you've wanted something quick to eat or bide time waiting for your train/ride (especially on weekends). Also, it offers shelter and a bit of a waiting area for the miles of Hudson River Walkway, plenty of joggers/bikers swiftly cross between. In closing, aside from some faults, it's still a good station in the network, and offers multiple routes to Manhattan or beyond. It took an entire year of wandering through this building for me to finally realize how much I liked it. The Hoboken Terminal was apparently built in 1907 and designed by Kenneth M. Murchison, or so internet research tells me. It's a beautiful, copper-clad building that is in beautifully restored condition. The recently-restored waiting room is also quite beautiful, with vaulted ceilings and stained glass. The Hoboken Terminal serves as a hub for NJ Transit trains, NJ Transit buses, the ferry to Manhattan, the Light Rail, and the PATH all at once. The layout is a little confusing, but you have to remember, it's an old building, and most of those services didn't exist when it was designed. The bathrooms, also recently restored, are quite clean. There are a few places to grab a quick bite, a magazine, or a beer. You can also take a stroll along the pier on a nice day. This is the really cool part: one of the maintenance workers here is an Elvis impersonator. He comes to work in his usual work clothes, but he has an Elvis bouffant hairdo and Elvis (circa 1970s) sunglasses with the little holes in the temples. I live around here so I have to rely on commuting to and from Hoboken. The Hoboken Terminal is simple and easy to get around. The train times are displayed everywhere. All you have to know is what time your train is at and it will display the track # your train will be departing from. Not only is this visible but they make announcements letting you know when they start boarding.There are ticket vendors everywhere as well as purchasing them from the indoor waiting area which is beautiful and historic. It was closed for a time due to the storm. Now, the terminal is one thing, but complaining about wait times and all that...-- well you have to review NJTransit on that. The train conductors and workers there can't really do anything to control the weather (floods, snow, etc). So as far as being in the Hoboken Terminal-it's clean, safe, and easy to find your way around. read more

The Hoboken Terminal is located on the south end of Hoboken and offers a multitude of transportation options. You can catch the bus, the train, the PATH, the ferry or a taxi if you wish. It is pretty clean and has a couple of restaurants and bars inside of it. But if you came here to do that, then I suggest you walk out the door and enjoy what Hoboken specializes in. The terminal is convenient and pretty nice, however whenever I am stumbling through here it is always between 2:00 - 5:00am after a night of debauchery in Manhattan.In that state of mind, anything will seem nice. But in all honestly, I have never had a problem going through here and the fact that everything you need for transportation is under one roof makes it that much better. Overall I gave the Hoboken Terminal three stars because it is a good place to go for all your transportation needs. The facility is clean, the staff are nice, and the terminal gets the job done on daily basis. I would suggest it if you are passing through. read more

The most exciting part is calling the pay phone at the staircase and then creeping people out as you describe what they are doing or wearing. So much fun. Traveling is the worst, especially if you end up missing that train. Thankfully Hoboken Terminal makes it easy to find your way or kill time if necessary. They have a bar located in the building with decent pricing and friendly bartenders. I'm glad others are writing a review of the terminal because it definitely deserves props. Train terminals are usually associated with noisy, crowded, pissy commuters running to trains and conductors and staff being snotty and unhelpful. Not here. The few times I had to take NJ Transit out for bbqs to friends in Northern Jersey I've been greeted with a smile and a helping hand. A true New Yorker I should be able to navigate a train station, but it's nice to get a final confirmation that I'm going the right way. The terminal itself is great with it's similarity to Grand Central and it's open views. Pretty if you take a minute before running to your train to take it in. It's one of those older Hoboken buildings you learn to appreciate and hope that they restore rather than renovate. read more

The train stations is beautiful. No doubt about it, small but a very busy commuting destination. The purpose of this review has nothing to do with the glamorous terminal. The conductor that I experienced today was thumbs down, horrific. There is a joke amongst my closest friends that I am a social butterfly. I always know someone wherever I go. Sitting on the train waiting for departure a friend from high school boards the train. We are sitting aboard catching up, and other people are chatting away with commuting buddies as well. The conductor did not enjoy my feet were up on the seat, so that was strike one. (Note, I am not sure I can blame him for telling me to remove my feet from the seat, kind of common sense, but after a long day all you want to do is relax). "YOU CAN NOT HAVE YOUR FEET UP THERE, TAKE THEM DOWN IMMEDIATELY". Extremely apologetic, no mercy was given. A few minutes later, after my buddy and I were in a pretty intense conversation, I was approached for the second time, "YOU TWO DO REALIZE THIS IS A QUIET CAR, BE QUIET OR MOVE". New to the whole public transportation gig, I was not aware. I also was not aware that the three dudes sitting directly in front of us received a certain special ticket for the train today. They were louder than us, and much more obnoxious with there forty ounces of canned refreshments but that is acceptable in "the quiet car". My final straw was when my buddy hopped off at his stop. I was the next stop. He offered to pull down my carry on suitcase ( I was at a friends apartment for 5 days, much easier to wheel your clothes than to carry them) but I refused, thinking I could manage. Crabby pants conductor approached me as I reached my destination "THAT BAG LOOKS HEAVY" as I struggled to pull it off the overhead. What ever happened to being a gentle man???? Mind you making your guests feel comfortable. Whatever he had for lunch I never want to taste. We all have bad days but I think that man had it out for me. read more
