My experience with Hochstetler Log Homes was excellent from start to finish.The quality of the logs and timbers was excellent with a very consistent moisture content, well below 20 percent. I might add that my home is built with 8x12 square timbers, and moisture content can be a problem, with big thick timbers. This is my 3rd log home. My first two log homes were 7400 sq ft, and 8600 sq ft built from Canadian Coastal Western Red Cedar. These Eastern white pine logs from the Hochstetlers , milling and uniformity, was by far superior to the first two. Constant communication(ask Mary) was easy, always pleasant, and professional. The few "hiccups" that did occur, as on any custom project this size, were handled quickly and efficiently. This home is 4100 sq ft, one story (yes they can do that)!! I highly recommend Joseph and his team as a well trained ,family owned and run company, to be considered for any log home you may be considering. Back up to the mill. We needed stain. Stain is EXPENSIVE but you need the good stuff to last. And the mill prices are very competitive. What I like about this Hochstetler is the quality. Mahlon put up our Hudson back in 2005. You'll see it in the business pics with the stone boulders, lights in the windows and a log gazebo off to the right. Doug Coen steered us in the right direction with the house and the builder. Not all of us have unlimited budgets. We did much of the interior work ourselves. A college professor and a math teacher. And it is gorgeous on the inside. 18 years and we still love the place. And just as nice is walking into the business and being greeted with warmth. Lots of people want log homes. There is something comforting with all that wood. But watch where you buy. Hochstetler Log Homes offer a quality product. Others in the area, not so much. You want to enjoy your home. You want good logs and a good builder. I highly recommend Hochstetler Log Homes both for the logs but also for products to maintain your home. Come here for your stain and caulk. I am a past customer of Hochstetler log homes. This place has a real hustle going on. The refer their brother out as their top builder and they do not do good work at all. I have tens of thousands of dollars of damage that was done to my new construction. I have areas of my house that have holes that were just covered up by boards where mice get in. I had mice at one point falling from my ceiling in my great room from one of these areas. I have had water come inside at least 15 times in different areas from bad work. I have wood that has bowed to such extreme measures that it needs removed and replaced. My entire house has such extreme pressure washer damage that has left deep scars all over the logs. The one coat of stain that was put on started to fail almost immediately. My entire house needs sanded and restained. Part of my roof needs cut off and refrained because I have water coming in on an inside wall. Seals on windows were cracked when they were installed and leak air. We even found a hot electrical wire they shoved in the wall while we were making repairs. Levi walked thru this mess and is well aware of what is going on here. And just looks the other way. This is not my first big construction project but definitely the last with this company. Paid a premium price and quite a bit more and did not get good work at all. I do not recommend them. read more
