We had a fantastic time during our summer trip down to Hocking Hills. Even with numerous other people squeezing through the area around Old Man's Cave and walking the paths (sometimes much too slowly for my patience, I'll admit) this place is beautiful and worth the moments spent poking around. I do wish they were more firm regarding people actually remaining on designated paths and picking up after themselves as I hate seeing the damage that will have to be corrected for future generations of visitors. Moving away from the crowds, we hiked to Rock House, Conkles Hollow (which is seriouy impressive but not for the faint of heart) and various other trails. We went home on a hiker's high and can not wait too head back. read more

There's not much else I can say here that hasn't already been said. It's a nice little retreat from the city with some excellent hiking. I went with a group of friends recently but have been here many, many times growing up from camping to cabin trips. This last time we hiked Old Man's Cave and Conkle's Hollow. Old Man's Cave is PACKED sometimes so beware. If you're looking for a longer hike that is a little tougher, try the Conkle's Hollow rim trail that goes all the way around the gorge. It's beautiful and there are fewer people. I'd like to go back in the winter to see the difference in landscape from the summer. Also, I have not been for the fall but hope to do that some time soon as well. I hear the leaves are spectacular. read more

I stayed in a cabin for one of the trips and tent camped on the other. Both the campgrounds and the cabin were well kept. This is a great getaway for couples, friends and family. What a beautiful state park, I mean the rock formation at old man's cave alone made the two hour drive well worth it for our family. Great place for an easy hike, parking lots were an abundance, conveniently located throughout different sections of the park which makes it easier to hike with little children or elderly people. That natural rivers and waterfalls were not present when I visited due to lack of rain fall, which makes me want to go back in the spring time. Definitely a great place to get lost in the wilderness. read more

WE LOVED THIS PLACE! My boyfriend, our dog and myself LOVE our hikes. You could say we're almost professionals by this time.....just kidding, but really. We went down to Hocking Hills for a long weekend in the spring time for a little mini-vacation. It was actually our first time doing the whole hocking hills thing. I went as a kid with my grandparents, but hardly remember. So when we went down this time, we made sure we would take full advantage of all of our time there. We obviously had heard great things about the hiking trails in the area and were really excited to see all of the sites we had heard about. Now, these trails are LONG. I would suggest if you're not a dedicated hiker or walker or anything like that, not to commit to the whole trail. It has a lot of nooks and hurdling over rocks, that sort-of thing. Our dog, Riley, even had some trouble in some rock area where she had to jump off. But it was everything we were hoping for, and more. It definitely lived up to our expectations. The sites on the trail are gorgeous. The waterfalls were necessary for cooling off for us during our 4 hour hike, that's for sure, but they are also beautiful. Old Man's cave is HUGE. The trail takes you either down into it, or up into it. The woods area in the middle of the hike, is pretty, especially in the spring. It had a lot of shade at this point so Riley appreciated that. And at the very end of the trail, is Cedar Falls, which is a huge waterfall. Very pretty and picture-worthy. If you're like us and love the outdoors and enjoy the hikes and sites, this would be an ideal vacation for you. There are endless cabin rental options on the Hocking Hills site, and the owners of the cabins contact you directly and then meet up with you when you arrive and give you the key for however long you're staying. Glamp'ed in spot 41, full hookup. Spot was awesome, concrete pad level with the site. Enough room to fold out our party deck. The trails to the upper falls & Cedar falls were awesome well maintained & a quick hike from our site. Pros:spots are shaded & large, the amphitheater is awesome, the pool (only open on the weekends) is nice. Cons: no cell service (we have AT&T), no WiFi, no cable (I understand we are there to enjoy the outdoors, but disconnecting from work for an extended period of time isn't really an option). I love the Hocking Hills state park!! The trails are all so nicely kept and the scenery is just amazing.

This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and it's well-maintained: hardly any litter. There are five different areas of the park you should be aware of: Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, Conkel's Hollow, Old Man's Cave, and Rock House. Although they are connected to one another through hiking trails, I wouldn't even dream of trying to visit them all in one day, especially if I'm just hiking. My family drove from location to location, doing roughly half one day and another half the next day. Be aware that, when you're down low and in the shade, it can get pretty cold, but it can get pretty hot if you're up high and in the sun. Dress in layers. Wear real shoes, not flip-flops (unless your feet have a death wish). Bring a water bottle and remember that there are trashcans and recycle bins only at the parking lots. And ALWAYS stay on the marked trails. Wandering away could result in a $100+ fine, a serious injury, or a bloody death. And those aren't good. Never get too close to cliff sides, and keep a close eye on your children. If you have a wild child, I wouldn't come here if I were you. We had no cell phone service, which could make emergencies dire. Also, I'd strongly recommend visiting before the middle of May or after September. That way, the park won't be super crowded or too hot. The parking lots are huge, so it definitely gets crowded during "the season." And if the trees aren't covered with leaves, you'll be able to see more. If possible, go there during a dry time: you don't want everything muddy, especially when you're walking across slippery rocks. ASH CAVE This place has amazingly high cliffs, some small waterfalls, pretty rock formations, and a good-sized forest path to hike. If you just want to see the cave itself, then there's a concrete path to follow, one that elderly folk and disabled individuals could handle without any trouble. However, if you want to see the view from the top of the cave's rock formation or conquer the forest trail, you'll need a body in full working order. Luckily, though, you definitely don't have to be an experienced hiker to come here: the paths were never too hard for my family. The cave is beautiful, as is the creek leading up to the small waterfall. The forest trail was pretty too. There are very few signs telling you NOT to go certain locations. Because of this, my family saw all sorts of preteen/teenage boys climbing up rocks dangerously high. Keep an eye on your kids: don't let them do that. CEDAR FALLS Like the other locations in the park, this boasts gorgeous rock formations and some pretty waterfalls--the biggest here, as a matter of fact. The walk to the waterfall's bottom isn't tough at all, but expect some difficulty if you try taking the two-mile path to the top of the waterfall. It's a long hike that takes you across a suspension bridge, and there's not much to see but trees until you reach the end of it. The trail that leads you back to the parking lot also has a few difficulties. There are some awkward stony steps, which may be covered in mud. And my family had to go down a tightly-squeezed path between high rocks in order to reach the end. Judging by what we saw, we had to take that rough path because a falling rock had crushed a bridge formerly on the path. It was a bit rough, but still quite doable for any able-bodied person (my parents are 50+). Just make sure you aren't too plump: if you are, you might just have to go back up the trail you used to enter this part of the park. Don't take the hike to Old Man's Cave unless you're an experienced hiker: the muddy, awkward steps of the long path could be very taxing. ROCK HOUSE Although not as pretty as Old Man's Cave, this is a nice place to stop. Like so many other areas of the park, this has amazing, towering cliffs and pretty forests. Although the path is somewhat long, keep in mind that it will lead you back to the parking lot if you just keep going: you won't have to go back up it. There are lots of stairs and a few parts of it are slippery, but it's nothing too rough. My 50+ year-old parents handled it fine, as did I, the ninny. The main attraction here is a relatively big cave known as--you guessed it--the Rock House. It's definitely neat to see water trickling around in it, along with the rock formations and oddly-colored rocks. Plus, there are pigeons making their nests there. (If you have someone faint of heart in your group, you'll want someone else to go first to make sure there aren't any dead pigeons lying around. It's uncommon, but possible.) You won't take many pictures within the cave because, believe it or not, it's dark. But it's definitely worth seeing yourself. Overall, if you're in Hocking Hills, you MUST visit the state park. The address give on this page is to the official office of the park. This building is used to many reasons including site information, camping information, boat dock rental, and much more. It should not be confused with the Hocking Hills Visitor Center which is directly off State Route 33 at the State Route 664 exit. If you are visiting here for the first time or are looking for more information about cabin rental, sites to visit, local businesses, etc. than you should make this your first stop and not the park office shown here. The park office has a very friendly staff along with a lot of valuable information. The park office is far outside of the city of Logan which makes it a hassle for local residents to rent dock's at Lake Logan now. It will take an hour round trip to go out, get your rental information, and return to town. The park office has plenty of parking even for large size RV's and can assist you if you need help. The park overall has many wonderful sites, the most famous being Old Man's Cave. There is also Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, and many more. The area is great for small or large families and great for kids. If you look around you can find stuff that isn't available in the visitor's information center. An example would be the Nature Center at Hocking College in Nelsonville or feeding the ducks at Cinci Lake in Lancaster, Ohio. These items are not published at the visitor's center but can add much enjoyment. I don't even know where to begin, because I think most of my fellow Yelpers, have said it all. LOVED the beauty of this place, over a 10 mile stretch, I saw the most fascinating waterfalls, and caves that one could imagine. I enjoyed the history and how easy it was to navigate through the falls. I mean for a 30 degree December afternoon it was even as gorgeous as I thought it would be in spring time. WOW! Such a beautiful place!!! Absolutely gorgeous! My husband and I did the Grandma Gateway's Hike (a hiking trail that goes from Old Man's Cave to Cedar Falls and then to Ash Cave) and though it was a 12 mile hike round-trip, it was awesome (albeit super tiring!). There were all kinds of interesting rock formations along the way and the forest was so lush and green! My only complaint was the trail condition. Maybe it was just due to the recent severe storms, but the trail between Old Man's Cave and Cedar Falls was kind of a clusterf-ck at some points. There were times when the only reason we knew where to go was because there were other people walking in that area. At one point, when we were coming back from Cedar Fall towards Old Man's Cave, the trail just vanished and left us at a dead end, river on one side and rocks on the other. Nice, nothing like a little rock climbing... Oh, and then there are places where the path becomes stupidly narrow. I'm a pretty skinny person and I was having trouble making it through these spaces. Overall, it was still a great hike though! I highly recommend it- just be prepared for the occasional "Wtf? Where did the trail go" moment. Couple of extra tips: - Carry a bag for your trash, 'cause there are almost no trashcans. - LOTS OF BUG SPRAY IN THE SUMMER! Seriously. I visited in early August and the "river" was just a long stretch of stagnant water- perfect for mosquitoes. My legs were mauled :( - Watch out for the stinging nettle growing all over the area. You should stay on the trail (when you can...) if you're in shorts because that stuff hurts!! read more

I love hiking in the woods, the beauty that is on display in the park in magnificent. You find a peaceful place and achieve total relaxation and escape from our complex electronic existence. Hocking Hills State Park was AWESOME!!!! This was a 19th wedding anniversary/family staycation and our 10 year old enjoyed it immensely...the cabins were so modern and comfortable we didn't want to leave! Fanny Granny's has everything you need in a convenience store just in case you don't wish to go 20 minutes into town just for some basic items...back to the cabin; we also would like to suggest a hot tub and windows not just screens, and the gas fire place was great as well just got to get use to the propane smell so we had to crack the windows, but for the cost, it was more than what we could have imagined! Oh and Old Man's Cave wasn't bad either, lol! read more

Who would've thought Ohio would have such a magical place. It was convenient for me to visit since I was in Columbus. I saw most of the popular sites. Everything was in the beautiful forest with ferns and algae growing over tree trunks and branches. There were several waterfalls at most of the locations. My favorite was at Ash Rock since it was falling from great height. I even got underneath it! The rock formation there and at Old Man's Cave were enormous and pictures can't do them justice to what they really look like. There were several caves and the Rock House was pretty cool because it's large enough for you to go inside & hang out. S lot of the hikes were pretty steeps& involved walking up steps, which often made it harder. On the way back to the visitor center from Old Man's Cave there was a cool, dark tunnel you had to go through. Lots of hiking, absolutely beautiful nature & had lots of fun! read more

So touristy. It is unreal that people actually place cement blocks as stairs in NATURE just to ensure that everyone and their mother could come to this place. This place is so gorgeous but with all this man-made stuff in and out of the caves, they are seriously way too crowded for me to enjoy. There was nothing "get-away" about this get-away that we took. There were screaming children everywhere all over the main part of the park, unhealthy, overweight individuals walking through the trails in SANDALS. The only cool place that I actually enjoyed was the Rim Trail that was not a part of the state park. This was Conkel's Hollow, I Believe. read more

First time visiting. Camped at a local KOA. Spent every day on various trails and at the cave/overhangs. Cannot wait to do it again.

Unlike most of the people that go to this area, I don't live too far away bei, the scenery is beautiful, and if you ever fall and get hurt then there's plenty of people there who will notice you. It's a nice place to get out and connect with nature, yet there's always other people there. Make sure you check out Conckles hollow while in that area. read more

We did the triple header of Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave and Cedar Falls and all three were incredible. It was so worth the drive, and the trails were really well maintained. This ought to really be called light hiking or more like a walk, and the stairs were more like only one or two flights at most. This is definitely a can't miss if you're in the area. read more

The park is astounding and worth the visit. BUT DON'T visit on a holiday weekend!!! This Memorial Day was nothing short of gridlock along some of the trails. It was VERY crowded and certainly took away from the beauty, quiet and solitude. Shame on the park for allowing this to happen! If you're camping, I would strongly suggest staying away from the Hocking Hills State Park Campground. The posted speed in the campground is 10MPH, yet some just can't read and fly around well over 20-30 MPH while small children rid bikes on the narrow roadway within the campground. Dogs barking at 6:00am will wake you for sure and if that's not enough, the bathroom filth is DISGUSTING!!! Apparently they don't clean but once a day, when it needs attention numerous times through out the day. Oh...BRING YOU OWN WATER!!!! I'm not sure what the number of available campsites are but the water at the fill up station for RV's is posted as undrinkable! REALLY? Who thought that one through? DUAH! read more

Our party of 4 visited Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave. It is the end of summer and it is still beautiful to experience. There is still water filled with little fish. There is good parking in both locations and many paths are paved. I 'd love to be back when leaves are changing and when the springs/falls are flowing. read more

Beautiful park. Short drive form cubs and worth the trip. I have gone to the park for mainly photography but would go back again anytime. Various trails that are all beautiful in their own manner, various skill levels from leisurely walk to more hilly terrain. The park can get a bit crowded if you prefer isolation, but go at sunrise and you can have a few hours without seeing others. Much more interesting landscape than cubs area. read more

My boyfriend had never been camping before so I figured this would be a good first place to take him! Making the reservation was simple and reasonably priced. We stayed at Old Man's Cave Campground at an electric campsite and were surrounded by wonderful neighbors and beautiful scenery. All of the trails that we went on were well-maintained and gorgeous. There were a lot of great signs and historical markers with information that we liked. The campground store was well-stocked and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We went in early fall and everywhere we went was absolutely stunning. Even the showers/bathrooms were pretty nice for a campground! read more

Seven people: 3 adults and 3 kids age 4-7 camped at the campground here for two nights. Unfortunately, we didn't realize our site didn't have water and the site wasn't 30 amp, so we were glad to have our converter. The pad for parking the camper was flat, which is nice. The showers and toilets were slightly above average and within a short walking distance. I picked the site because it appeared a bathroom was very close by and much to my dismay it was an outhouse --- not really the best bathroom for a little 4-year-old! So we were glad the other bathrooms were close. We found 2 playgrounds. One was significantly better than the other. There are plenty of dumpster for trash and many sites are shaded. You can drive to Old Man's Cave or just use the hiking trails for a quick entrance to he beautiful and well-maintained cave trails! At our site, it was quiet at night. There was quite a bit of poison ivy, but very few mosquitos. The campsite roads are pretty hilly which made it difficult for one of my little ones to bike ride alone. There were water sinks to help with washing dishes as well. Since our kids like to bike ride and play on playgrounds, I am rating a 3 because of the hills and lackluster playground near our camp. The proximity to the caves almost made me give 4 starts! read more

My wife and I visited old mans cave recently and due to a medical issue, I needed to use a machine for a treatment. I assumed that I'd find an electrical outlet at the visitors center, but no luck. I stopped at the rangers station and they could not have been more friendly and helpful. Great people. read more

Got some complaints... Not of Mother Nature but in the care of it. Totally disappointed at Ash Cave. Bathrooms were AWEFUL! Smelly and disgusting! Pathetic that the Forestry department in Ohio would not crack down on defacing the natural beauty of the formations with GRAFFITI ...people carved their names on trees and all over the rocks as high as they could reach. Looked around at the beautiful, astounding natural scenes and shook my head in disbelief at the pathetic people who think they have to validate their existence on the earth by carving "JOE WAS HERE".. Went to Old Man's Cave next. Why do they have a Snack Shack? Not a good idea because people abuse the trash that it generates. I picked up multiple pieces of trash and water bottles etc. and carried it with me to the trash can near the parking lot. WOW!! So sad. Beyond beautiful otherwise! read more

Last weekend a group of us visited hocking hills, based on my recommendation. I was the only one who had been there previously, and praised the beauty and serenity of Hocking Hills. Our first stop was Old Mans Cave. Everyone was in awe when they walked in, but this quickly came to an end. I apparently stepped off a path (literally two steps off in sand) to take a picture so i wasn't in anyone's way on the steps. I was then tapped on the shoulder by a Park Ranger. He pulled one of my friends, me and three strangers over to the side. He informed us we would be cited for being off trail. As we had this conversations i witnessed many others go "off trail" in much worse areas...again i was two steps off the trail. We were all given $135 fines, and told that they needed to show Columbus they were doing something about people going off trail (they actually said this). Again as we had this conversation they stepped away to yell at a group of people, but they were not ticketed. We were being made an example of in front of the entire park, so these rangers could prove to Columbus they were doing their jobs. They claim the trails are clearly marked, but when visiting you will see this is not the case. There is one sign in the parking lot that we did not see that states "stay on trails, do not throw things etc". It states nothing about being cited without warning.These rangers could have been citing others who were climbing rocks, children not being supervised and others who were actually off path instead of trying to prove to Columbus they do actually work. I strongly urge anyone considering going to Hocking Hills, to take their money to the beautiful state of West Virginia, Michigan or any other state where you will not be targeted by rangers trying to prove themselves. I have gone to Hocking Hills more than twenty times and i will never go back. It was clear to me that this was strictly a way to make money. I did a search and they have given 50 citations and 300 warnings in the last month, if that isn't proof i don't know what is. read more

We recently stayed at Hocking Hills State Park's Old Mans Cave campground, arriving on a Friday with reservations until Sunday of the following week. This was our second visit to the park having visited early in 2014 for a long weekend. Our party consisted of 4 adults, a 16 month old toddler, and two dogs. Old Mans cave campground is advertised as a "family campground" and also "pet friendly". On the following Wednesday after staying for 5 nights we were visited by a park ranger, who informed us that there was a complaint for people arguing, dogs barking, and babies crying. He went on to say that if any more complaints were received for dogs barking they would be placed in the humane society for the remainder of our stay? He said that if another complaint was received in general, we would be asked to leave. I will say that our grand daughter had developed a cold after arrival and did cry more than usual starting Monday, although not after her early bedtime which was way before the advertised quiet time of 10 PM. As far as excessive dog barking our dogs are very well behaved and have stayed at campgrounds for years without ever having an issue. Our site was visited by a group of 4 raccoon's the previous night at 3AM, resulting in a barking session of 2 minutes tops. The ranger made a point of saying "your dog is barking right now" while he was giving us the warning. Typically most dogs bark at approaching strangers at a campsite, so I do not know what point he was trying to make. Arguing? If we were so what? it was not during quiet hours. One persons "discussion" can be another persons "argument" I would argue..pun intended. Let me also say that the only campers who were close enough to even hear us would of been a couple in a brand new travel trailer with no children or dog. I sure hope you read this review if you were the people who filed the complaint. If you want total peace and quiet do not visit a "family" state park campground that is "pet friendly" and expect total solitude. Could the complainers being from OH, and we being from PA, have come into play? Possibly. The issue we found totally unacceptable was the suggestion made by the ranger as to what we could do if the baby cried. That was "MAYBE YOU COULD PUT THE BABY IN THE CAR"?!! ARE YOU KIDDING? How is that for a suggestion from a ranger which is a law enforcement officer? Maybe I should of done that at noon on a 95 degree day so he could come back and arrest someone for child endangerment. That did it. The ranger left and I promptly broke camp, packed our trailer, and cut our vacation by 5 days, with a 200+ mile one way drive ruining something we looked forward to for almost a year. I do not need threats based on hearsay by another camper. How did he intend to seize our animals to turn over to a humane society for barking based on someones verbal complaint. Was the complainer prepared to testify? The site had a large drop off from the asphalt pad as did many. Upon our arrival we spent 1/2 an hour finding and cleaning up dog crap and trash from our site left by previous campers. I would have thought this would have been addressed somewhat by the hosts. It seems the hosts are "part time". When we left midweek both host sites were buttoned up and the Gators they use were covered. Not sure what they do other than cleaning out fire rings. We watched one drive past a small bag of trash and not even slow down. During the busy weekend the shower houses were filthy and were borderline usable. The shower houses have a large amount of worn out and missing fixtures. 2 of the 3 have no privacy for dressing. The gray water dumping station leaked which made it pointless. Do not reserve a campsite located near the many scattered dumpsters which is a ridiculous arrangement. Overflowing after the weekend and emptied at 5:30 AM Tuesday. Also be aware there are only two dumping stations which share 1 common water hose. With a 1PM checkout on a Sunday that could get time consuming. The playground / common areas had numerous dog piles, and no pet waste bags or receptacles are provided which is odd for a supposed pet friendly facility. I would not recommend Old Mans Cave campground if you have a young child that may cry or a dog that barks. All it takes is one complaint from a busy body to ruin your vacation. If you do have a child and dog, stay during the weekends between the summer holidays, when there will be plenty of children and dogs in the campground so you are not singled out by someone with an axe to grind. We will never patronize an ODNR facility again solely based on the rangers comment to put a baby in the car if she cried. Possibly OH needs to make separate loops for pets like here in PA, which would eliminate a barking complaint. And if they are going to issue warnings / threats based on other campers verbal complaints, they should also have sections where no children are allowed, or any other camper generated noise? read more

Hocking Hills has so many great hikes to see waterfalls and caves. There is such a variety in skill and length of hike, so there's something for everyone. Old Man's Cave is probably our favorite. Be sure to stop at the welcome center to get a map and chat with the volunteers there, they are very helpful and knowledgeable. read more

First off, I should state this review is strictly based off my horrible camping experience here. The full hook-up/electric sites book up quick here. Despite signing up for availability notifications and checking the website for months we weren't able to snag anything other than primitive. We knew upon booking the site was hike in and our plot was about half way down trail. Considering most of our gear is either on wheels or could be carried on our back we weren't too worried. However, we weren't prepared for the path to have such steep inclines and be composed of crushed stone. The hike was absolutely brutal for all involved. After talking to several of our neighbors it was common consensus that no one was fully prepared. The website should definitely state that as we seen several older folks struggling. We arrived early afternoon on Friday in hopes of catching a few trails. Unfortunately, after such an awful trek unloading our stuff we decided to skip the hike and relax around the fire. We had a total of 4 people on our site,me and my wife along with another couple. On one of our trips to the car we made friends with a couple down the way and later in the night they joined us for a few drinks. So, 6 people in total sitting around the fire laughing and joking. We had planned to call it an early night and be up at 6am to beat the crowds, so around 10:15 we start packing it in when we are approached by two rangers. The music is off at this point and we aren't even talking, just cleaning up. He informs us that we are being too loud and that we need to cover up our alcohol because they cannot be visible from the road. What? Okay, no big deal because we're going to bed. The next day, as planned, we hit the hikes early and didn't return till after 8pm. Exhausted from all of the hiking we started a fire to relax with a glass of wine. We had the music on low via a mini speaker sitting right next to us. By 10:30 we are all still nursing our first glass of wine and my friend is telling us this great story as the rest of us listen. Here come the rangers again, she proceeds to tell us that the bass of our music is too loud and we need to turn it off, not lower it, completely turn it off. She informs us that if we don't comply she will return to cite each of us $135.00 for noise disturbance. I should mention the four of us camp often together, sometimes with larger groups, and we have never been approached for being too loud. At this point we are furious, but we let it go, turn off the radio. The trooper and her male counterpart disappear. At least that's what we think until we hear voices behind us and see them standing in the pitch black spying, yes spying through the bushes, on our neighbors. The group next to us had two different sites reserved, a total of 12 people, and I'd guess all under the age of 25. We couldn't hear what they said, but we watched as the troopers went thru their trash AND their tents. At this point we're all kind of fuming and feeling harassed, but we decide not to let it ruin our night and stay sitting around the fire whispering. Yes, whispering around a campfire. Still, that wasn't good enough. The rangers come back, this time it's the guy speaking. He goes on to chastise us on being warned two nights in a row as if we are children. He informs us that if we keep it up we will not only be cited, we will be packing up and escorted off property that night. I'm not sure if we were more pissed off or confused. So we ask him "keep what up?". The music is off and I know for a fact our whisperings can't be heard from the trail considering I was struggling to hear my friends from across the fire. He ignores our question and say's "I need all of you to state you understand me so when I go in front of the judge I can say I warned you and you understood". We don't understand and we tell him this, but again he ignores us and demands/threatens us until we all say "sure". Shocked we all sit there in silence after he leaves. A few minutes later we hear shuffling, turn on our headlamps and sure enough there they are watching us from the bushes. At that point we're all pretty much over it and if the hike wasn't so brutal we probably would have packed up and left. For the next 45 minutes we watch as they "patrol" with their flashlights off so no one can see them coming. By 11pm all fires were put out and everyone was in bed, tired of being harassed by the rangers. 10pm is not quiet time here, it's bed time. This was not just abuse of power, they genuinely got pleasure from harassing campers and ruining their night. Never, in all of my years of traveling, have I ever had such an awful and demeaning experience. I couldn't be paid to come back here. read more

Beautiful, you'll forget you are in Ohio! Saw Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, and Ash Cave. Welcome center was very helpful. Ordered bagged lunches for our hikes from Cedar Falls Spa, $10 and they were yummy. Can't wait to go back! Make sure to stop at Christmas Treasures before going home, and pick up a few of their CANDLES! I bought sweet bread and pumpkin pie...amazing! Next time will make my own scent :) Also did a moonlight canoe trip, which was so much fun! Canoeing in the dark? Who knew! Stuffed our faces prior to canoeing at the Olde Dutch. I think we all gained 5lbs over the weekend, good thing there's so much activity to do lol! read more

Awesome place for hiking. The trails were beautiful and ranged from handicap accessible to strenuous. Stayed at the newly renovated cabins at the state park campground. All round just a wonderful experience. Will definitely go back! read more
