We found this secret camp spot not too far from Hocking Hills State Park right along the river. Shane set us up over the phone with a campsite and kayaking for the next day even though it was preseason! The campsites had a small bundle of wood for a campfire and they were really well spaced out so you don't feel that you are right on top of the next site. Spent the weekend here in the cabin. It was a great time. They set out kayaks for us and we could go at anytime. The cabin had everything we needed including towels and WiFi. The hot tub was perfect. The rental process was easy through the website. We had 2 canoes and 4 kayaks for 8 people. It is $46 for 2 people on a canoe plus tax and $35 for a single-rider kayak plus tax. Our group had all signed the waivers the night before online. When we got there, the person who made the rental checked in for the group. No IDs were checked or anything in regards to the waiver. No one helped choose the paddles or checked if we truly had the life jackets. We were just told that wearing the life jacket is not required, but must be taken on the ride. Our rental was at 2pm, but the bus did not leave the area for the river until 2:15pm. We did the 5 mile trip and did it with ease, even with several beginners. The water throughout most of the river is pretty shallow, our canoe even got stuck a few times because it was so shallow. Overall, the trip itself was very relaxing and nice. We went at a slow pace and even did a stop midway at one of the rocky areas. The trip took us about 2.5 hours. A plus point is you are able to take your own snacks and even a cooler on the canoe. When we reached the end, no one helped us get off the canoe or anything, even though there were 3 workers there. We were then asked to throw the life jackets in the pile of used ones they had and to replace the paddles where we got it from. The place closes at 5pm, so there was no one to check that we had returned the equipment. Basically, I would go again for fun with the family, but I don't expect much help from the company in regards to anything other than providing the equipment. read more

My friend and I did the river float this past Monday with a double tube and had an awesome day! The weather was perfect and Hocking Hills Adventures staff were friendly and helpful. Cathy drove us to the drop off point and made sure we knew the landmarks to look for and about how much time it would take us to get back based on those. We felt it took us a little longer, but I think it was inexperience on our part. We did get stuck a couple of times and will probably take a paddle when we do this again! Let me start with the actual adventure was great. My family and I did the rafting and as total beginners, it was super easy to figure out and navigate the river. They also offer canoes, kayaks, and inner tubes. The guide on the bus tells you thst from the second bridge you only have about a hour left. This is a lie. With extra traffic from the other people it took my family about 2 hours to reach the end. If you were in a canoe or kayak it probably would he quicker. You can also bring your dog with you but only on a kayak or canoe. The only thing that really made our experience a little was crappy was the other people. You are allowed to get out and hang around on the sandbanks but there was so many people on one sandbank at a time that their canoes and kayaks were starting the block the way. That wasn't the biggest issue though. The biggest issue was with SO many people smoking cigarettes and weed. It smelled like weed for half of the duration of our trip. As someone with asthma, I was not prepared for that. There was also a ton of drunk people but they weren't as bad as the people smoking. I would love to come back sometime and maybe kayak but I hope that the next time I come, there isn't as many people. read more

My friends and I went tubing about a month ago. We (for some reason) decided to do the 7-mile course, which (I kid you not) took 6-7 hours to finish. The beginning of the course was fun and had some small rapids, but the last 2 or 3 miles were very flat. The costs of renting tubes were $20 per tube. Take note, the tubes don't have bottoms on it. My one complaint was that there were many extra tubes on the bus, but the place didn't let us take one extra to hold our things. I understand business, but also, let's be real: one tube does not cost $20. Overall, if you do tubing, definitely recommend doing 2 miles instead of 7. read more

My Friends and I got to experience the Moonlight Paddle & Wine Tour last night. We were blessed with perfect weather and the Awesome Staff at Hocking Hills Adventures. Right from the start of getting on the bus, Cathy, an experienced staff member welcomed us with a smile and enthusiastic spirit. She told us what to expect and what to look for when we would reach the end of our trip. It had already been a long, hot day for the staff, but when we boarded the bus at 7:30pm, she was still as happy and energized as if it was her first trip out for the day. Shane, the owner, also welcome us and told us after we got off the river, there would be a bonfire , wine, and s'mores! Shane drove the bus to the drop off point and unloaded each canoe for everyone in the groups. Colt was great in helping each group get onto the river. As we headed down the river, it was so relaxing and we could hear the birds. As it started to become dark, it was hard to believe we had already been on the river for over an hour. The next thing you knew, it was dark and the moonlight was our best friend. Once we arrived at the end of our journey, there was the owner Shane in the water and guiding our canoe over to Colt, who helped us get out of the canie without even getting wet! Shane then pointed us in the direction of the bonfire where there was two different kinds of wine and stuff to make s'mores. There were other ones sitting around the bonfire talking about the canoe ride downriver and talking about what part of the state they were from. We stayed for a little while and then left so Shane and the other staff members could go home after such a long, hot day. A big SHOUTOUT to Shane, Cathy, and Colt for making our moonlight canoe ride at Hocking Hills Adventures such a safe, enjoyable and most definitely a rememberable experience. Hats off to each of you! The staff was friendly and at times, even funny. They were good at wrangling everyone on to the bus, explaining the details, and getting us in the water. Recently had a trip at the end of July 2020 for my sons birthday. Even with covid and special guidelines our time was amazing. We chose the short kayaking trip and had so much fun! We even bought the pass that includes time at the fun center. The go karts were a great time. Both female adults and both children (boys 5 and 11) all enjoyed and we can't wait to go back again. All workers and all attending had on face masks (when not in the water), the workers made sure people adhered to the governors orders and everything was constantly sanitized including the kayaks, ores, life jackets, buses, etc. Make sure you pre buy any tickets ahead online due to limiting how many people can be allowed on at once and walk ins are not always able to fit in. read more

We had a wonderful 3 day mini vacation at Hocking Hills Adventures in Rockbridge Ohio. It was located in the Hills of Hocking Hills only a 10-20 minute drive from all the adventures, stores and restaurants. We rented the Small Mouth Bass Cabin for 3 days and honestly I expected a lot less for the price we paid. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the cabins were and how clean the entire property was kept. The cabin have electricity and we had a mini fridge, microwave, a small flat screen tv with built in DVD player (but no antennae reception), a ceiling fan, a window unit a/c, a small little heater, a porch swing, a picnic table, charcoal grill and a fire ring. Ours had a loft but it doesn't have much height to it so we said our little grandsons would love it as there is a staircase that actually pulls down to go up to it and a little window up there. Our cabin had 2 sets of bunk beds (one bottom bunk being a full size and the other three beds were twins). The cabins have no running water (as it is actually just supposed to be a step up from a tent and allows you to put a nice roof over your head and have electric etc,) but the bathrooms (which are modern and have a shower stall as well) are only 50 feet away from the cabins. The family fun center by the office has great activities for the kids. They have putt putt golf, a splash pad and a big square Inflatable for kids to jump on, a few arcade games and air hockey in the office and Go-carts on a race track! It is a family owned business and are super nice!!! It was the most affordable cabin in Hocking Hills and I would definitely recommend them! We had so much fun and I can't say enough about how nice and efficient the staff was! We took a short trip to Logan Lake and had dinner at the Old Dutch in Logan. It is a Family-friendly operation serving Amish-style comfort food, either à la carte & or at the buffet. It also has a gift shoppe Next door was a antique shoppe and an ice cream shoppe with an animal feeding zoo with baby deer and goats between the restaurant and the ice cream shoppe. We went to the hocking river for canoeing ($40 a canoe and kayaking $25 a Person) it was about 1 1/2 hour canoeing and 5 miles. That was recommended by the staff at Hocking Hills Adventures. You could buy discounted packages for canoeing/kayaking/the fun center. There is a flea market on weekends a few miles from Logan and Rockbridge on St route 33. There is horseback riding near by and zip lining and of course you can fish at the lake or river as well. You will be close to the caves as well (old mans cave, ash cave, cedar falls and a couple others I think). The dirt roads around the camping area were full of pot holes but it did slow down traffic for the kids to play. Lol read more

We did the Crockett's Run Tour. We did the 9 am float. It said to be there a half hour early, but that was not needed for the first float of the day. Staff arrived at 8:50. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The parking is in a field on the land next to the the main building. You take a small foot bridge over to the waiting area. They had restrooms on site, fitted us for life vests and paddles and took us to the drop off site. They helped us get into the canoe safely and sent us on our way. There had been quite a bit of rain before our canoe trip so the water was higher than normal, but made it so we didn't have to get out of the canoe to move it when it bottomed out (which happens a lot in the summer) There were some little rapids which made it fun. Due to the higher water, our trip was about 1.5 hours It was very peaceful. There were a few limbs in the water which made it fun to navigate around them. The water was very clear in some places and there was little trash along the river. Overall a GREAT trip. Would suggest trying it! We will be back! read more

Bus left without us even though we were there before 11am. Bus driver and the girl at the front desk did not give us any forewarning. The girl working the front desk said she would tell the next bus driver to pick us up (we have a group of 8). The bus didn't come get us for ANOTHER HOUR. The people working there saw we were hooking out tubes together but didn't think to warn us of the shallow parts of the water and how it would be hard to manuver since we are roped together. Lastly, at the end of our "adventure" the 2 guys that worked there just sat at the exit ramp and didn't offer to help us with our tubes at all as we were getting out of the water. They stated on their website that the family fun package included one of two canoe trips and that kayaking was available at no additional charge. Then was told the opposite when we arrived to pay for our trip. Was told that the policy changed and that the family package only included canoeing with only one trip available. Website was never changed by the time we arrived. Canoe trip was supposed to be 2 to 3 hours and we hardly paddled and it was only an hour and 40 minutes. The Family fun center was awful. Located in area with burnt down homes that have never been fixed. The sewage truck was there while we tried to play putt-putt and was extremely noisy and smelly. Why was that not done earlier in the day instead of when customers are there? A third to half of the putt putt greens had no carpet on them. The rest were pretty dirty and were not clean from debris and leaves. A songbird had a nest in the middle of the course and tried to attack us several times so we had to skip a few greens. We attempted to tell an employee about this but she seemed like nothing was going to be done about it. So what's going to happen if a family is playing and that bird attacks a young child? Also we were not allowed to use the splash pad being told that the water had to be tested so the health depart can approve it's use before Memorial Day weekend. The Absolute Worst! BEWARE WHEN BOOKING! We visited Hocking Hills for Labor Day. I booked a reservation for 13 people on a Saturday afternoon for the following Sunday on a whim. I came across your page while looking for something to do with our group of kids that ranged from age 2 to age 12, and loved the fact that you had something for everyone. Our reservation was for Sunday at noon. At 11:45am, 15 minutes prior to our reservation time, there was a heavy downpour, thunder, and lightening, which caused us to cancel our reservation. The lady with the 2 year-old was NOT taking him out in that. Minutes later, we received a flood warning for the river on our phones I am highly disappointed in your policy. Had I had known the weather was going to be so bad, I would've never booked a trip in the first place. I understand the 7 day cancellation policy, but I didn't have 7 days. I really can not believe you were still taking people out in a canoe in those conditions, and frankly feared for the safety of our group. We are not from this area, and most likely will never return to use our credit. The fact that I was told "there's nothing I can do" by a representative on the phone after I spent $455 in absolutely insane. Shane has been LESS than understanding, and is insisting that the weather was "fine" that day. No, Shane, it was not, and I have the weather alerts on my phone to prove it. As a business owner myself, I understand that you have to have policies in place. But, you also have uphold your policies, and it states on your website that "We still operate in rain unless there is lightning. In the event of bad weather or lightning you will have the opportunity to reschedule." We left the cabin the following day, so there is no "rescheduling." Hands down the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. If I could give ZERO STARS, I would! Here it is, the end of February, and I do not have my refund OR a response from Shane or Jamie. read more

We stayed at the riverside campground. I give this campground a 5 star for cleanliness. The portajohns were wiped down with bleach everyday and they went around picking up the trash at each site which felt like every hour of the day. The sites were super large and spacious, couldn't hear our neighbors. I personally liked the right side of the beach to stay at, it was quieter then the left side of the campground and had less people. Would stay here again! read more

My son is 3.5 and old enough to start going on some adventures. I decided to take him Canoeing and see how he did. We are a little less than an hour from Hocking Hills so I researched providers in that area. I decided to go with Hocking Hills Adventures. Their website is very good and I was able to research/navigate all the different river trips with ease. I picked Crocketts Run (Trip #1 best for beginners). Their website allowed me to make a reservation, pay ($40ish for 5 mile trip seemed like a decent price) and sign all the appropriate waivers before ever leaving my house. This makes it really convenient on check in. We left the house at 8:30 AM in order to be there by 9:30 AM to check in a half hour before our reservation time of 10 AM. The place was very easy to find and although I used my GPS I really didn't need it. Once I got there I drove down a path preceded by a sign saying parking with an arrow. However, once you drive down the path nothing is marked and after asking someone I found out you can just park pretty much where ever along the sides. It would be nice if it was marked a little better but wasn't a big deal as I'll know in future trips. Checked in at the desk. Lady was friendly and I received directions on where to board the bus and where to pick up our equipment along with our bus pass. I did want to buy some water but they didn't have any for sale. I was able to buy a pair of water shoes and some snacks (chips) but no water (or other drink)?!?! Grabbed my paddle and head back down to where the buses & life jackets were. While I was picking out my jacket a man ask what trip I was taking and if I had my pass. I said I was on trip #1 but I needed to go to my car first before I gave him my pass. He pointed out the bus I needed to get on and said I had time before it left and took my pass. I walked to car put my shoes up and put on my water shoes. Then walked back to the bus area. Just as I got there my bus was leaving, without us. (I did have my 3 year old son with me so maybe we weren't as fast as we should have been.) I tried to explain to a couple of the guides/bus drivers that I think I missed my bus for trip #1 and they seemed pre occupied and annoyed that I missed the bus for trip #1. The driver that actually ended up taking us up there acted really smug and put off by having to take us. Sort of like, you missed your bus and now you inconveniencing me. Sorry guy, my guess is you don't have kids. Anyway, my 3 year old loved the bus ride and when we got to the starting point the guide help us get the canoe in the water and made sure we were all set. His attitude was a little better but not by much. The trip was awesome. The canoe and other equipment were in great shape. We stopped at a few sandbars along the way and had an excellent time. At the end of the trip the area to stop was clearly marked. We got out and returned our equipment. There was a Church supplying free hot dogs and drinks which was a really nice touch. Everything was clean and overall, aside from the minor glitch described above, everything was pretty good. I will be going back to do a longer trip as my son loved it. We thought that kayaking would be a low-risk activity during COVID, but we were wrong! I made a 2:00 reservation and paid online. Multiple emails reminded my party of social distancing and face covering guidelines. When we arrived to the location, it was as if no one there had ever heard of COVID. Very few customers were wearing face coverings. Only 2 employees were wearing a face covering. We arrived shortly before our 2pm reservation. The line was out the door and along the road. There were spots marked on the pavement for distancing, but no one paid attention. The line moved painfully slow. When we finally made it to the desk for check-in, I was very concerned. They had installed 2 plexiglass barriers to protect workers and customers. Instead of operating from behind the barriers, workers were leaning to either side of the barrier and over the counter. We were called forward before the party in front of us moved on. The worker was annoyed when I didn't approach and continued to lean over the counter as I backed up. Then the waiting started. I understood that it might take longer because they were supposed to be running transport buses at half capacity. However, there was no rhyme or reason to the system. Some buses were loaded up almost full and others were not. Most customers did not wear face coverings on the bus. I only saw 1 bus driver with a face covering. We waited an hour and then talked about possibly leaving, but had decided we'd already committed to the wait...it couldn't be that much longer right? We were wrong. After an hour and a half total waiting time, we decided we had 30 minutes of patience left in us. We were called on to the bus 25 minutes later. But then it took 15 minutes to load people on the bus. Once we were loaded on the bus, the driver asked if we had life jackets. We said no and he shrugged. We all know how to swim so we decided not to push it and have to wait any longer (and we were willing to assume that risk). The bus finally arrived and then we all tried to get off. The bus driver suddenly remembered some of us were taking the 7 mile trip instead of the 5 mile...so we stayed on the bus. Then the bus started backing up and then stopped and our driver got off. Then he got on. Then he got off. Then he got back on and started backing up. Someone behind the bus banged to signal to him to stop. We let him know and he didn't want to pay attention...but stopped and got off again. Then we were off to hopefully get in the river! When we got to our launching spot, the bus door opened and a worker popped his head in. He loudly said "Ugh, is this the last bus!?" and made it known that he was NOT happy to see us. Then we moved to another spot and a man threw some kayaks off a trailer at us and said "here." We each dragged our own kayak to the bank and launched ourselves. We couldn't imagine inconveniencing that grumpy man with his job. We were finally getting into the water for our 2:00 reservation at 4:45. At the end of the trip, we went to dock our boats. Some workers were helping and some were just there. I stepped out of my kayak into a giant mud pit and got my feet sucked right in. Beautiful day, beautiful river, terrible experience. You've got to be kidding me with these fake reviews.. this place is a dumpster fire! Save your money go somewhere else, The place is a dump. There is literally a pig slaughter house across the street, and when the wind is blowing a certain direction you can smell rotting carcass. Right next to the entrance is a burnt down house, everybody that works there looks like a meth head. They have a "beach" at the river down the road (Don't believe the map online because it's BS) don't walk down there barefoot because I found broken pieces of glass everywhere and there's poison ivy at every tree that I looked at. They have five showers for the entire campground and you have to wake up at six in the morning to take a shower or use the bathroom or wait all day. They're disgusting and there's never hot water. The reviews are confusing because people are reviewing the tubing and canoeing which you can do without camping there. We got duped because the reviews are good, they are reviewing the tubing-canoeing but obviously the people with good reviews did not stay at the campground or don't mind hepatitis. read more

Made a game-time decision on a Sunday morning to take some time out and take a nice trip down the river while we were visiting HH. Came across Hocking Hills Adventures based on a Google search, and it came with good reviews and a good price. We (GF and I) stopped in their shop and booked our trip for later that afternoon. When we showed up around 1pm, we got outfitted, and were shortly whisked off to our put-in point for Trip #2 (Stone Bridge). Our shuttle driver was cool, a bit crazy, but a GREAT beard lol. He told us basically to paddle straight across from the launch to the opposite shore, then follow the trail a little ways to the "Stone Bridge" rock formation. We did - It was awesome! Back in the canoe, it was a nice, lazy ride down the river. Water levels were generally pretty good. Never had to get out to drag the canoe through shallow waters (but got close in a few places). There were other people on the river, but it was never "crowded". Not a lot of great scenery on Trip #2, but it was ok. Seemed lacking in wildlife - not even turtles out sunning on a warm sunny day. Just birds - lots of birds :) Our driver had told us that the trips that start further upstream (#3 & #4) are more scenic than the ones downstream. When it was time to put in back at the livery, we had a hard time paddling into their inlet. Maybe the water was a little low, but there are wooden pilings at the entrance that we got hung up on. Then once in the little inlet, we were dragging bottom so we just got out and dragged the canoe the last 50 ft. TIPS: 1) Wear shoes you won't mind getting wet or muddy - just in case you need to hop out in the middle of the river, or to help pull up on shore. 2) Bring something to drink. This run didn't have anyplace to put in for a drink or a snack, like along the Mohican. It's just you and whatever you bring with you. 3) Have a waterproof container for your valuables and electronics. sometimes a ziplock bag just won't cut it. read more

I've been here twice now, both times on the riverside campsite. It's a very sceneic location, very nice campgrounds conveniently located close to Logan Ohio. The staff is always friendly and will always help you with whatever you need. I like the more bare bones campgrounds which is what the riverside campground is all about, only having a firepit and picnic table is very freeing from everyday comforts. If roughing it isn't your cup of tea the fun center is definitely the way to go with a wide array of more modern amenities like bathrooms with showers. The price point was more than reasonable making the trip a cheap vacation the whole family will enjoy. I highly recommend you stay here, hope you have as much fun as I did. :) read more

The website advertised spacious, wooded campsites. This was not the case. We felt shoulder to shoulder with our neighbors, one of which arrived to set up camp at 10:00pm, when we were trying to get our two young children to sleep. We eventually fell asleep, not to the sounds of nature, but the sounds of social gathering and air mattresses being inflated. Especially given the pandemic, I would have hoped for something that didn't make us feel uncomfortably crowded. read more

This review is for trip 2- 7mile kayaking trip. My boyfriend and I are intermediate to advanced kayakers. We wanted to do trip 3 but that is reservation only on weekends. We were told that the river was a little low, but we shouldn't encounter too many issues. Staff were helpful but not overly instructive. You start the trip across the river from the rock bridge, so paddle across, jump out, climb the steap embankment and hike back a ways. Its very cool to see. River was pretty easy to paddle. A few rocks and trees to avoid but were easily spotted and maneuver around. The river was deep enough that we didn't have to get out at all. Nice bits of embankment along the way to stop if you need a rest/lunch break. Over all a nice relaxing trip with a few rapids mixed in there. Only big downside was unsupervised kids in canoes that had little experience on how to navigate causing issues in a few spots and they liked throwing rocks and sticks in the river as people were going by. Need some reminders on paddling manners. read more

Extremely Unorganized. My boyfriend and I wanted to go on the 7-mile kayaking trip, but we were not able to make reservations ahead of time, as it was a fairly last-minute plan. I called the morning we planned to go to make a reservation and they did not take same day reservations at all. When we arrived, we waited in line for 15 minutes only to get to the front and be told we were in the wrong line (no signs or directions of any kind). We proceeded to wait another 20 minutes in another line, finally paid and got our equipment. We went to the waiting area, but there was no system for them to know who got there first, who had been waiting the longest, who is next in line to get on the bus - NOTHING. 2 buses left that we were not able to get on - we waited in the picnic area for almost an hour. Then when we got to the drop-in location, there were not enough kayaks for everyone! People from previous buses were waiting for them as well. Long story short, we were told there was full availability for kayaks that day, and it took about 3 hours from the time we got there to actually get onto the river. The staff was not communicative or apologetic, the systems were very unorganized, and it overall was not a great experience at all. I might try this experience again, but I would be certain to make a reservation for first thing in the morning. read more

Went canoeing down the river with a group of 4 adults and 3 children. What fun! They have a variety of trips to choose from as well as different boat options (canoe, kayak, raft, etc.). All children are fitted for life jackets and all adults are required to have a life jacket and oars (provided). Pros: *Affordable *Knowledgeable and courteous staff *Like new equipment and comfortable canoes *Beautiful and scenic river route *The people of Hocking County! Having not been from the area, I was completely taken aback by how friendly and courteous the residents are. Don't get me wrong - they love to party and were clearly enjoying their time on the river but every time we asked them to please leave our canoe alone as we had a 2-year-old on her first canoe trip, they not only quickly backed off their canoe games but then called ahead to friends and others in our path that we had "children aboard". We were very impressed! Cons: *The wait was pretty long; we canoed on a very busy (and hot) Saturday morning. After paying, we had to wait for our group to be called which took about an hour. Once we arrived at our departure spot, we had to wait another hour for a canoe. I understand that you can reserve ahead to avoid these wait times (no same day reservations are accepted). *Not much instruction was given - in fact, none was given. Half of our party had never canoed before and were pretty lost when they got on the river. read more

Camped here on Memorial Day weekend and the place was a mud pit, which is understandable when it's raining a lot but you had to have 4-wheel drive to get to my campsite. I was on the end of one of the rows at site 130 where the road ends before you even get to the site. Thankfully I have 4-wheel drive otherwise I would have been screwed as there is nothing on their website or follow up emails stating anything about needing 4-wheel drive. The porta potty was also in need of an empty day one that we got there. When we checked in the girl was rude and laughing at as when we were asking questions about where things were. Just terrible customer service. Seems like someone got some land on the river and is just trying to make some quick money. Just disappointing. read more
