Held our son and daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner here a couple of days ago. Scott and Mona did such a wonderful job! From our initial conversations of the booking to the dessert served at the end of dinner, everything was phenomenal. It is such a beautiful property too! Our guests raved about the quality of the delicious food and the cool historical bar. Veronica (our Event Coordinator and Banquet Manager) was a great help as well. Went for Easter brunch on a whim. Setting was very nice, like eating in a classic bed and breakfast. Drinks were well made and staff very friendly. Some drawbacks, even with a reservation we waited a very long time to be seated. Apparently their system is you get an assigned table and you need to wait for that table until those people leave. Not great if they decided to park with drinks. Most of the buffet was good. Some things ran out early and were not filled, but the carving station was excellent. I would also like to see utensils in everything as well. Not a fan of grabbing with bare hands. read more

Talk about quaint and picturesque! Ang and I had a great breakfast here. I'll definitely be back. I was debating between the crepes and eggs benny. Arg. It was hard decision, but I'm very satisfied with the eggs benny; they did not disappoint. The ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection. The eggs were poached just right and the hollandaise sauce was on point! The sides were yummy and I actually couldn't finish it all - gasp! Yes, that's how huge it was. We sat near the door and windows, so every time the door opened we were blasted with cold air and had to keep our jackets on which wasn't ideal, but not a dealbreaker. Yum yum yum. read more

Absolutely outstanding visit to Hodge Podge Lodge last weekend (late November 2024). Scott the owner was able to get us in last minute and was very accomodating our entire visit. I have to say the Lodge is really great for brunch through dinner. If I had one suggestion it would be for some soundproofing and strengthening of the floor leading from the Tea Room to the kitchen. Every time someone walked past our table, it shook. The noise (because of a festival), from outside was really invasive. The onion rings are a must have appetizer. We threw a birthday party for my mother's 80th at this location two years ago and had fabulous service and the food was over the top, fresh, plentiful, price well. Today we went back for brunch. Our haystack appetizer was brought out cold and soggy. The seafood crepe was delicious but the spinach had not been destemed and this seems like a lower grade of food than we experienced several years ago. I'm hoping that they bump up their game and get back to a five-star rating soon. read more

The burger at this restaurant used to be amazing and I think they have changed cooks a couple of times over the past year. I have waited months and revisited and it has even made me sick a couple of times...it is $23 and I can't imagine charging this much for a burger and fries and not being able to at the least make the buns not as hard as a rock....and the burger has been char burnt the last 2 times, tried several months apart again and thought one more go but no....you would think they would not charge you also if it is not good enough to eat... Love the restaurant environment but whatever happened with the cook is not working out, I'll stick with The Cozy Grape or even Whataburger is better and consistent. read more

We stayed here for our 17th anniversary, and it was amazing! We stayed in Harvs Hideaway which is the only little cottage by itself tucked in the back with a private hot tub on the deck! The restaurant was amazing as well. I had the sea bass and he had the reef and beef!! The service was perfect! WE enjoyed brunch the next morning with our family that joined us and it was amazing!! I had the chicken salad sandwich on gluten free and my MIL and FIL had the avacado toast that comes with a poached egg on top!!You cannot go wrong with this little local get away!! Ate a late lunch there yesterday with my wife. Quaint setting in a 19th Century restored home. Ambitious menu. I had the turkey burger, delicious, though I was surprised that it was served on Texas Toast instead of a traditional bun. My wife ordered the Filet Benedict which was also delicious. Our only complaints were the quality of the desserts and our server's lack of knowledge regarding them. She did not know the difference between Bread Pudding and a Cobbler. I ordered the Chocolate Eruption which did not "erupt" as it was merely dry chocolate cake with no frosting and no filling inside. read more

Reserved seats in the bar room. She repeated our request on the phone to verify. We get there and we are seated in the sun room. I Finally had to go to the hostess stand to order a glass of wine after a long wait. We order the onion rings. They are out. We order the spinach artichoke dip and it was good. Husband orders the fish tacos. They're out. He goes for the lasagna rolls. Nope. Taken off the menu because "so many were sent back because they couldn't make them right"! We would have left there but I hadn't eaten all day and had put in my chicken parm order. They claimed all the problems were due to "transitioning" on the menu! Incredible! Why go I to Houston when you have this wonderful, little hidden gem so close. I don't really like pasta but I ordered the shrimp scampi because I was in a lemon, wine sauce. The pasta was fresh and the sauce so light. My husband had filet minim which was cooked to perfection. The waiter brought out the dessert tray and told us the Chef had just made a cheesecake with a blueberry reduction. SOLD! Great ambiance in a beautiful setting. There are not enough enthusiastic adjectives to describe how wonderful HPL + staff are!!! We had our dream wedding there September 2015, I say dream bc it truly was one: a dream come true! The Historic Home serves as a Bed and Breakfast and event venue. The space is romantic and charming. We booked the venue for the entire weekend so my bridesmaids and I had use of the home the night of the rehearsal and my new husband and I got to start our honeymoon there. The grounds are stunning, from the century old trees, beautiful lights and garden. It Is truly breath taking. Nicola, Sophie and Carolyn from Sweet Tea and linen go above and beyond to make sure every last detail is perfect. I seriously felt like a princess in a fairy tale. Each morning a home cooked breakfast was ready for us downstairs everything was delicious. I loved getting to sip my coffee and look out into the garden. My response to the owners response: I don't know the validity of all the other details regarding the groom's father and timeliness, but I can ASSURE you, it is never OK for GUESTS to have to clean a bathroom upon checking in. That was absolutely disgusting. No one from our bridal party stole anything. I don't know who went rummaging through the kitchen, but none of us are that disrespectful. We DID have to go replenish our own soap, because old/used soap was left in the shower/on the sink in the bathroom... We DID have to get new towels, but old nasty towels were left strewn about the bathroom... We DID have to get garbage bags to empty the ones that were filled... AND yes, we had to used cleaning products to ensure things were sanitized. Unbelievable. But you can continue to deny that... we have pictures to prove it. Makes your business all the more tacky to try and say otherwise. Also says a lot that this is your first negative review and this is how you respond... read more

After enjoying a really nice brunch a few weeks earlier, my fiancée and I chose to spend our wedding night away from our home. It's such a nice looking old converted home, and the Eleanor room looked very inviting. There were supposed to be complimentary bottles of water for making coffee in the morning, and there were none. Trying to satisfy your thirst with the tap water, is really not recommended. We also noticed that there was a considerable amount of mold on the bathroom door jamb, and not mildew from hot steamy showers with limited air movement. And i don't know who stayed in the room previously, or how long before we stayed there, but there were used feminine hygiene products in the bathroom trash bin. We didn't stay for brunch, as we had other plans for the day, and could not wait until it was available. When we were leaving, we found that the main door to the house (that we had to use a code to enter, was unlocked). I don't know if staff left after we arrived, or if the door doesn't lock automatically. read more

Went for happy hour yesterday with friends only to find out they're not doing happy hour right now. Wouldn't be upset except I called several days ahead of time and told them we were coming for happy hour and even made a reservation. You'd think they would have mentioned that fact at that point but they did not. So, the group arrived only to find out the usual happy hour selections and prices on drinks and appetizers was not available. Spent at least double for what we would usually get. Very, very disappointed. The only bright spot was the bartender whom we love and who is always so nice. This should have been a nice, easy break from all the difficulties we all face right now. I love this place, the atmosphere is spectacular and relaxing. The service is superior,and the food is stupendous. I have been 3 times with different groups and have never once been even slightly disappointed. I've had the chicken, mushroom crepe, key lime pie, toupee omelette with cheese grits and bacon, quiche, beer cheese soup, carrot cake and a latte, and every single item was superb! If there were a 10 STAR available that is what I would choose!! This place is extremely charming and the food is amazing!!! This restaurant use to be a house. The hardwood floors are original. The house was built in the 1800's. I felt as if I was in Boston or Maine upon entering the restaurant. The decor and style of the home made me feel that way. The food was impeccable. I had the Crab Cake Benedict. So scrumptious and a surprising unique choice for me to order. Rick the Chef came by our table and was just so friendly and nice. He chatted for quite a while. He had just added a new menu item he created and we also had that as well. If you like chicken order the bbq chicken sandwich with grilled onions! They use sweet baby rays bbq sauce and actually bring out gloves for you to wear when they serve it. I would suggest using them. The sandwich is loaded and yummy /messy. Messy in a good way. The waitress was upbeat, and very friendly as well as informative. She suggested Items for us being our first time there. The owner Jeff also came by to introduce himself. He was so kind and we enjoyed getting to know him. He has really put a lot of work and effort into making this place a hidden treasure! We really enjoyed our experience and I will just say it made for great memories of the day. We happened upon this place as we were in the town to go to nearby hiking trails. We stayed here after hiking in nearby Sam Houston National Forest all day. Adorable home, quaint decor, kind staff. There was a wedding being hosted on site as well, so there were a few awkward times coming and going while events took place, but the staff was kind enough to let us in and out through staff areas so we didn't interrupt the festivities.
