Hodgson's Antiques is a large and, like most antique stores, a bit cramped. Now, this can be great for people who love to explore, but. just warning you, navigating can sometimes be tricky. This store has a lot of antique/vintage jewelry for sale, particularly silver and semi-precious stones, as well as a good amount of costume jewelry. It also has quite a bit of home-ware, porcelain and kitchen-gadgets. Some sections can really pull you in, like old back issues of Times Magazines or other periodicals. Hodgson's is a great place to explore for an hour or so to find something unique or special for a friend or for your own home. Price-wise it's middle-of-the-road, not dirt cheap, but not super-expensive either. Worth a visit. Keep in mind that this place is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. read more

wandered in here on a whim and found quite a few lovely things i'd want purchase if i had the living space to accommodate all of them but alas i have a very tiny home so left with three wonderful finds and a renewed sense of delight of digging for hidden treasures. this store is very packed so recommend giving yourself time & space to take it all in at your own pace; you could spend a whole afternoon just looking through all the old photos & postcards alone! excellent service by very friendly staff. read more

Peggy is the best! You will find her holding down the fort at the front counter. Very friendly and interseting to talk to. =) She said this store has been on Mission for about 41 years! Plenty of stuff to wander through and pass the time. Crates and crates of Life magazines! Vintage clothing, dishes and stuff to fill your shelves and cabinets. They even have cabinets here for you to buy! Goodness gracious! They have quite a selection on the jewelry, swing by here to pick up some real gems. =p From costume pieces to classy "bling" with semi-precious stones. Suprising place for jewelry but do give this place a look-e-loo the jewelry spans multiple display cases many of the earrings and necklaces average won't set you back much, average $20. I liked that it's organized by color so if you have an outfit or a certain color preferance for your jewelry you can find it quickly. If you are having trouble just describe what you are looking for to Peggy and she can tell you of she has something like that in stock and even where to find it! Her memory is amazing for all the inventory the store had. =) Smaller selection on vinyl records but they are only $5 and some seemed to be in "new" old condition with the plastic still wrapped around it. Cool place, south pass staple, but unfortunately many items are overpriced. The man who works there (in his 50s?) wasn't able to help.

There isn't a reason to not like this place. They don't have much along the lines of furniture but what they do have, which is a good amount and variety is awesome. Well priced, friendly and helpful, this is on my list of frequent check-in shops. You'd be a fool to pass this up. This is a hidden gem. I wish I knew this place before I bought all my costume jewelry and costumes themselves. They have a bunch of vintage everything! Not much of the 1920s or 30s (which I love buying because I loved the clothes from that period)... but a lot of 50s - 80s style of clothes. I ended up buying a 1980s hat that could pass as a 1960s for my "costume" events. They have old photographs and magazines. This place would be a great place to shop for props for movies. So if you are a film maker and you need props for a TIME piece... this place would have it. I was telling my friend who is in the entertainment industry, this would be the place. I saw a lot of hats and costumes that I would totally buy and they're affordable. I got the 1980s hat (think Whoopi Goldberg from GHOST) for $15. I saw a 1940s-1960s gas mask from the US government... probably during the practice bomb raids... really cool... $45. The lady who works there with her husband were really nice and showed me a bunch of hats. I love period pieces! I'm definitely coming back for the vintage jewelry (bunnies). One of the few antique places I've been to where the staff was helpful and kind, and the prices can't be beat! I am a sucker for vintage and antique items, and Hodgson's Antiques is a great place to find rare and unique collectibles! I've been here a handful of times, and have always received excellent service without being given the "wary" eye I get from most antique dealers. It's conveniently located right near the Thursday South Pasadena Farmer's Market and Metro rail stop. The shop itself is a little small, but so many great things to look at and admire! This antique shop is chock full of vintage jewelry, cookware, magazines, paper goods, memorabilia, and clothing. It's not too big, but there is a ton of stuff to look at. Everywhere. It's definitely not the shop for a claustrophobic person. However, the shop owner is an absolute sweetheart. She can help you find whatever you are looking for, whatever your price range. Prices are very reasonable & things go on sale every now and then. I bought a chunky acrylic beaded necklace and earring set for only $3. Let me start this review (which talks about the *negative* experience and customer service I received today) by saying that I have been to this store and bought things many times. I really like what this store has to offer, and it's curated well. The owner's (husband?) is great- I don't remember his name unfortunately but he is always very kind and friendly/goes above and beyond to help customers and give you a good customer experience. And usually, on past occasions when I have been to the store, the owner Peggy has also been kind and helpful and responsive. Today, however, she was extremely rude/dismissive/short with me from the second I walked in. I was dressed in a short sleeve knit sweater with athletic stripes on it and Adidas Samba sneakers (because it's comfortable!) and I know it probably made me look young - I saw her look me up and down, and I am sure she immediately profiled me as some idiotic teenager who's there to loiter, or mess up her store, or make TikToks in there, or steal something. I figured she was just busy and didn't think much of it at first. I looked around for a bit, then picked out something I wanted to buy and brought it to the counter. Then (since I was at the counter anyways), I tried to ask very politely about selling a suede evening bag. I had already sold some items to her daughter at South Pas Vintage next door, and her daughter told me she had too many bags in stock at the moment and to try to sell this one at Hodgson's. Peggy didn't even look at it before being suspicious and trying to turn me down; she didn't ask to see it and instead immediately and abrasively said "How old is it? I like things from the 50s/60s, if it's from the 90s I probably won't take it." Which would be a totally reasonable and understandable response - IF she'd looked at the bag before saying it, instead of looking at me and deciding that I wasn't old enough to have and appreciate beautiful vintage things! I know enough to know the bag IS in fact from the 60s-early 70s, at least. I'm not trying to offer you a fuzzy Juicy Couture bag. The way she spoke to me was also different from the way she spoke to the other (older) customers - she was very attentive to the others and asking them if she could help with anything, etc. Not for me, and the standoffish way she acted towards me when I asked to open up a case to look at something (and then bought it) made me feel like she thought I was some huge burden. To speak straight to the owner: I'm 24 years old with a paying job ready to spend money at your store, and I just DID spend $75 - please don't treat me with such a bad attitude; the least you can do when I say thank you after making a purchase is acknowledge it and not ignore me. I know that you are not a mean person, because like I said I've been to your store before and you've been kind those times, but I feel very put off that you would treat people any differently based on how they look. Walking out, I felt like I'd just been bullied for just being in your store looking the way I did. I'm still giving a 4 star review because I love your store and think you do a great job curating and serving customers (usually), but I wanted to let you know that how you treated me today made for a very bad and unhappy customer experience. I hope you don't treat other customers, of any age or physical description, that way in the future. read more

This place is a hidden gem in South Pas. There are some really interesting things here including the massive collection of new&old jewelry and the bric-a-brac collection is also pretty cool. Prices are reasonable and quality is relatively good. Wouldn't recommend this place for clothing as the selection is very limited. read more

Great antique shop in Pasadena!!!! It's on a cute little street and there are nothing but gems to be found here! I walked away with this GORGEOUS Cameo Shell Victorian ring circo 1909-1920's! My favorite antique shop in South Pasadena! There are quite a few within a two block radius of Hodgson's, but this one is definitely the best. It has a lot of hidden treasures to uncover and all of them are appropriately priced. Fair warning- if you see something you like, buy it! I saw a purse and a pin I really liked one weekend, so I went back the following weekend and both of them were gone! I was shocked because the store is so packed that what are the odds that both pieces would have been bought! I learned by lesson! Also to note- there is no parking lot. I was looking for an antique looking broche to use as a hair piece for my job's gala this Wednesday. The gala is 1920's great Gatsby themed. I went into Jasleen's boutique down the street but it didn't have anything I needed. I remember seeing Hodgson's store when I passed it earlier from leaving the train station and decided to try looking in there. They had so many antique looking broches, headbands, and even an antique head piece. I wasn't planning on getting a head band but once I tried it on I was sold. Jean, one of the sales associates, was very kind and helped me choose the best headband. They're super nice in there. They have a little bit of everything..a hodgepodge of antiques. So Much great vintage jewelry. As a drama queen, (in a good way, mind you) I love my costume jewelry. As a socially conscientious eccentric with sensitive skin, I have a strong disdain for cheap disposable jewelry made in the sweat shops of China. As soon as you walk in the door, you see mountains of American made antique bling. Dress yourself up, you narcissist, you. A little deeper in, vintage magazines, comics, prints, pin ups galore! The good: This place has a ton of really neat stuff, and some of it is bargain-priced, while others are normally priced for an antiques shop. It is a funky place, and has neat signage. I was able to pick up some comix from the front bargain (dollar bin) section that I liked, including an issue of Mad from 1980 that I had recognized reprinted in paperback form from my childhood. FINDS! The man behind the counter was pleased that I had found something cool. The not good: The lady who works there was suspicious of me. She (in no short terms) first greeted me rudely. I was looking through some other vintage comics inside the store, and she popped her head around and gave me side eye. I said,"Hi, how are you?" and I got no reply. When I brought my finds to the counter, she looked at them, then implied that I had not gotten one of my finds from the bargain section, and that next time I should place my finds on the counter as I walk in. Perhaps she was just having a bad day, or maybe she really did think I had stolen from her store. Either way, it's not a good way to do business. This antique place is predominately filled with stuff for the ladies that are looking for stuff that goes beyond Forever 21 to accessorize. Not bad, but for myself, I was really aiming for stuff closer to the beginning of the 20th century of any sort to be considered antique. Yea...most of the stuff here was from the 60s-80s. Kind of overwhelming because there is so much stuff in the shop - seriously, this place is packed with random gadgets and stuff. They have a TON of vintage jewelry, many earrings priced at around $15. The dishes were more expensive than I would pay for, but they really do have a good selection. Received great customer service, as after buying a trinket, I told the clerk it was a gift and I needed to go out and find a gift bag, he rummaged around and found one for me! Very nice place, a bit small though. Jam packed with cool old things. I walked around the place and had a great time. I spent two or three hours looking at things here. It reminded me of my grandfather's 1950's garage on steroids. They have cool and moderately well preserved magazines from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. They are all wrapped in plastic to protect them. I have to say that this place is so cool. I could have spent the entire day looking through the old fashion magazines. The girl at the front was nice and wasn't pushy. They also have small collections of antique watches, jewelry, glass, and everyday items from the 50's. The place focuses on having stuff mostly from the 50's here, but you can find things from earlier and later decades. read more

Uber-cool place for all sorts of vintage, especially magazines, adverts and costume jewelry. (I live & breath vintage!) The only negatives I can cite are that there's very little vintage clothes and there's this creepy, nasty old guy who doesn't work there but seems to be wandering the shop 1/2 the times I go there. He walks with a cane. He once smacked me in the leg -- hard! -- by accident and then yelled at me for being in his way! I mentioned it to the woman at the front desk and all she did was shrug. I LOVE this store. I'm a vintage jewelry-a-holic, and this place never fails to provide me with an ample fix. Recently, I was dining at Mike and Anne's (a great place to try), and a necklace caught my eye while walking back to my car. I went back the next day to get more info on it. It turned out to be slightly pricey, but only slightly. It was $95, Tibetan fringe necklace, with coral and turquoise. The shop owners were nice enough to let me take a picture, allowing me to think on how the piece would work with my wardrobe. I bought it after a couple days of thinking. This place is tiny, but packed with treasures. You could easily spend an ENTIRE day, browsing. The decades range from 30s to 80s, with some (but very few) 90s and 20s pieces. The owners are knowledgable about the product's material make up and the best way to preserve their items once purchased. Their vintage clothing does not thrill me, but that's not why I shop there. Overall, this place is a winner. Weird extra bonus, there is a sandwich/yogurt shop right next door, so if you get hungry, you can take a break from browsing, and grab a snack. Basically I'm going to let all of the previous reviewers sum this place up. I'm not a big antique person, but after having lunch at Mix 'n Munch next door, I thought I'd take a peek. I could have easily browsed in there for another hour! I ended up buying a used item that I'd been looking for in retail stores, and I bought some cool vintage postcards. Masquerade Masks! Wow I can spend hours here trying on the most amazing collection of masks, hats, vintage clothes and oh the Tiaras! This place makes me want to host a dress up party. They are across from Busters and next to Gold Line Mission Station. Fun place to stop and browse... then an ice cream across the Street or a Beer at the Pub next door.
