One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. When I tried to open my door the key would not work. I went to the front desk 8-9-2026 and was told that my "stuff" was there at the front desk. I didn't understand because I left my personal items in my room. I was given a large black garbage bag with my items and assigned another room. I felt so violated. When I got to my new assigned room, I noticed that my laptop, ipad and other IT items were not in the garbage bag. The lady at the front desk (I don't remember her name) said she "forgot". The following day when I checked out, Asia (the lady at the front desk) advised me that they tried to contact me. When you check-in you fill out a form that request your contact number. I was never called by Asia or anyone. She called out some number that was not mine and not on the form I filled out. I was so disappointed as a "Club Member"and hotel guest. We are a touring band traveling from Chicago to Cleveland, OH and recently stayed at the Holiday Inn in Matteson, Illinois, and had a very pleasant experience. Parking was easy and convenient, making arrival stress-free. Check-in and check-out were both smooth and efficient, with friendly staff assisting us quickly. The rooms were recently renovated, offering a fresh, modern feel. We appreciated the clean beds and spotless bathrooms, which added to the comfort of our stay. The staff was polite and helpful. The rooms were clean as well as the establishment. The only down side was that the pool was not in service at the time of my stay. Also, there was no complimentary internet as advertised. This was my first time staying at a Holiday Inn Express that did not have internet for there guests. read more

Have always had great experiences with Holiday Inn Express & this property more than lived up to my expectations. The property was recently remodeled or reopened and it shows. Everything was clean, the rooms were quiet and the staff was terrific. Jennifer checked us in quickly and made us laugh multiple times. It was just an overnight stay, we were working downtown in the evening, which was an easy 35 min drive each way. Great to be close to the city without paying Chicago rates. Morning had a great workout and breakfast before getting back on the road. Also, underrated feature, but love that the hotel has a water bottle refill station in the gym (like airports). The location is great because it's right off the expressway. The room we had for the baby shower was nice, with the exception of some brown water stains on the ceiling and running down the wall. They gave us access to the ice machine, which saved us a trip to the gas station. Our event was not disrupted by the noise of what was going on in other rooms in the hotel, which is a big plus for me. There is plenty of parking. read more

I loved this place. It exceeded my expectations. The bed was comfortable, and the place was immaculately clean. Everything seemed brand new. As someone who has stayed in many hotels, I liked the convenient hooks near the door and the landing spot where I could drop my key and wallet. That was unique. It's nice not to spend extra time looking in the room for where you dropped your key. The lobby was welcoming and a nice place to sit in the morning and have a coffee. They have a couple of comfortable couches. The breakfast selection was good, and the seating was comfortable. I also used the nicely sized and well-equipped gym. It always bothers me when hotels don't have enough space to get a workout in, but this place has a good amount of room to move around. Free weights, some kettlebells, and a bench were all put to good use. Also, a place to fill up a water bottle. For some reason, it's one of those small things that was a nice detail as I like to carry my own water bottle. Topper: The staff was friendly and responsive! This hotel was recommended by my daughter's dance competition company because the competition was being held at Governors State University in University Park, which is 10 minutes away. We called ahead to ask about early check in since we were going to be at the competition all evening on the 1st day. They said to call when we were on our way or to just come and try. We arrived at 12:30 and they said no rooms were available; to try back at 1:00 or 1:30. We had to be at the competition at 1:00, so we didn't get to check in until we got back that night, which was around midnight. Not their fault at all, but when I asked about a late check out, I was told to call the next morning. If we're trying to sleep in, how can I call?? The Bar Louie off the lobby is large and very nice. It turns into a club after hours and it was very lively, but fortunately we didn't hear it from our room. The room itself was fine; and we were pleased to find a microwave and small fridge. The Keurig, however, didn't work. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and well stocked. They have a pool and hot tub but we didn't have a chance to take advantage of it. I bought the room deal that included breakfast in Bar Louie, and I have to say that was the best part of our stay. It's served 6-10 so I went down about 9:30 and let my daughter sleep in. You have your choice from a small breakfast menu and my server, I believe his name was Marcellus, was very kind and attentive. He boxed up my daughter's meal for me to take back to the room with no problem. They have a large gift shop in the lobby which looks like it would be convenient for snacks or if you forgot something, but it was closed. I stopped at the front desk after breakfas and asked about the late checkout since I tried to call earlier and no one answered the phone. We didn't have to back at the competition until 3pm and my daughter was still sleeping. They said they could give us one hour, or until noon. I wasn't really thrilled but all in all our stay was ok. I was not happy to find that in addition to the $100 hold for incidentals, there was another $65 hold on my card. I tried to call twice to find out what that was for, but again, no one answers the phone!! Very annoying. I think next time we're out this way we'll take our chances on one of the lesser hotels in the area. read more

My first words to you about this hotel is......run, run, run! My husband and I had it booked for 4 nights while waiting for our place to be ready, we lasted a full 12 hours in this dirty hotel, we pre-paid so we lost that money, that's how bad it is. It is completely run down and dirty, customer service doesn't exist. Plenty of undesirable people hanging around the tore up parking lot. Pets are welcome they say, but there was nowhere safe to take them out. This hotel was not the best nor worst I have stayed at while traveling. My company put me up here for the last six weeks while out of town for business. The hotel is older and is showing its age. The front desk staff is a mixture of friendly to indifferent people. You start to notice the hotel's and age lack of upkeep soon after entering. You are greeted by the odor of air freshener trying to cover up the smell of outdated and unkept carpet. The rooms follow suit with signs of aging and no apparent plans for renovation. The is a Bar Louie attached which offers bar food and drinks. A decent fitness center if you are into strength training but limited cardio equipment. If you are paying for your stay I would choose other accommodations in the area. read more

Pretty rundown and grimy hotel. Elevators and hallways smelled like weed. Overflowing garbage cans in common areas. Visible dust on the carpets. The air conditioner filter was so clogged it didn't work. I had to take the filter out and wash it in the tub. Turned the whole tub black but then the ac worked. On the plus side, Beds were clean. Good shower. Nice staff. If they just spent a little time vacuuming, basic maintenance, and picking up garbage, it'd be a decent place. read more

Stayed here for two nights and had my entire family with me. The whole place smells of both smoke and marijuana. We had three rooms and all three rooms were full of stains everywhere and garbage. They included blood stains, food on the floor, no toilet paper, no water pressure, keys wouldn't work. They have security Guards walk the halls and randomly knock on doors in the middle of the night. Major hazard was a wide open window in one of our rooms so there was bugs in the room and there's no screen on windows so a child could very easily get out. read more

I have stayed in over 10 hotels this year 40+ nights on the road. This is by far the worst experience ever. The hotel is under construction. The rooms are dirty. The hallways are dirty there was no soap in my room. There were only two towels available when I had to switch rooms because the first room had construction going on right below. It was too loud. The second room had construction debris throughout the hallway. On my third trip to the front desk, I asked for an additional towel. They didn't have any. They said I would have to wait for a housekeeping the next day. This place should be shut down and renovated. read more

I'd probably give it less than a star. I've seen bedbugs, I've seen roaches, and the staff has picked up the phone and hung up just to avoid work, and we had to call from our own phones because they disconnected our room phone. There's no gym, no laundry to speak of and the over all atmosphere is terrible. It gives haunted vibes, there's always some. Construction being done but no one working. Having to walk by open doors and wall cavities that could fit a human at night, and of course to make terrible just sad... there's barely any lighting. read more

While my husband has been working in the south Chicago 'burbs all summer, this is the hotel he's been staying at the most. And I finally got to experience it for myself when I traveled to Chicago to attend his company picnic with him. It's definitely not the best, but it's not the worst. My husband said he had actually lucked into a "good room" when I stayed -- not sure what the rooms look like otherwise. But this room was pretty basic. Typical hotel room art and set-up. It was decently clean. The TV cable was a bit lacking but workable. The bathroom door didn't latch properly, so I had to almost slam it to close it -- not good in the middle of the night. Three things I liked about it: 1) There were extra plugs and USB outlets on the bedside table for charging electronics. 2) The bed had two firm and two soft pillows, which were actually marked on the pillows. 3) The room has a fridge and microwave, though my husband said that some of the fridges in the past haven't worked. But the room looked like it hadn't seen any serious upgrades in 10-15 years, which fits with the rest of the hotel as well. When we pulled up, a lot of the lights were out on the outside of the hotel. I joked that it looked like the hotel was closed. The carpet was old. The card reader on the outside doors didn't work, so anyone could come in. It's just a dated hotel. But the rate is cheap, which is why it is the "preferred" hotel for my husband's company. Again, you could do better, could do worse. read more

My stay at this hotel was fine...although, it is important to note that I was only there for one night. The room was very clean and contemporary, check-in was smooth, the elevator was a little sketchy as someone else mentioned, but aside from that, it was ok. Not a luxury, five star hotel, but decent for the price. My only issue was that they have this "hospitality promise" sign in the rooms which indicate if you need anything, let them know and they will bring whatever you need. Well, turns out that I forgot my toothbrush, so based on the sign-I thought they'd bring one right up. Nope. Claimed they were too busy and I needed to come to the front desk to pick it up myself. Well, if you make the effort to leave a hospitality promise in each room - you should also make the commitment to honoring it. I was already dressed for bed, so it was a huge inconvenience to walk down the hall, wait for the elevator, wait in line since other customers were there, then return to my room. I will say, that at least they did offer a free toothbrush vs. the hotels that offer nothing except a small store that will cost you an arm and a leg for a cheap toothbrush. Stayed here for a family event and I have to say this hotel is horrible! It should be condemned. This has to be an afterthought in the Holiday Inn chain. I couldn't believe how dirty it was. It's never a good sign when police are there when you get there ‍. They were there on more than one occasion. When you walk in it looks depressing and dated. The staff was nice but that's all I can say on a positive note. Our rooms were felt old, carpet and comforter (stains) were nasty. I always travel with Clorox wipes, cleaner and sheets so we felt better at cleaning the room. Our shower stopped working on the second night and it leaked from the handle... very low water pressure. The elevator felt nasty and there was a bug (that looked like a roach ) that rode up to my floor with me. $150+ a night is not worth it AT ALL!!! The only reason we stayed was because everything was booked. Breakfast was included and that was good. Our waitress Shamika was really nice and she was very attentive. We ate in the Bar Louie restaurant (coffee was horrible). I could not believe our experience. Very disappointed with the Holiday Inn brand. At checkout there was a woman in front of me complaining about her experience... it was just bad. I was so busy with my family event that I didn't take pictures and luckily I wasn't in my room a lot. Warning: Do NOT book this hotel!!! It needs to be totally revamped and the rooms need to be deep cleaned. Never again, Holiday Inn... never again! read more

I was looking for a reasonable place to stay outside of the city for work. While I saved some money it was not worth it! The staff was nice but the room and location was rather run down and in need of refurbishment and updates. The room doors do not close quietly and my neighbors were in and out of the room all night which cause a slamming sound every 30 minutes til about 2 am. While that is not in the hotels control the fact that they appear to have a bug issue is... I awoke to 16 bug bites on the arm that was not under the covers while i "slept". I did alert the hotel but there was nothing that they could really do. Next time I will just pay the difference to stay elsewhere. read more

When we first stayed here they were very nice and accommodating. Then things started going wrong. I have always been very careful with my debit cards. After staying here last time I started getting warnings from my bank. Someone was trying to shop online with my card. Only problem was, the didnt have all my information. Thank goodness my bank pays attention to detail, what they were trying to do would have really messed me up had the 2 transactions been approved. We still like it here but now they are charging more and doing less. The internet does not work good at all, the tv is awful. Every room has different channels, when the tv actually works. I got here 10 minutes early and had to wait until straight up 3:00. Never have had that happen before. Most places are fine with it. Then there was only 3 little hand towels for 2 people to take a shower. The pool has never been open and now they are under construction and charging $200 a night. There's definitely better places to stay, especially for $200! They dont even warn you about the construction, then they make it almost impossible to get back out to your car. The floor was also wet in front of the fridge and the microwave did not work right. Was not worth the $100 I paid. At best maybe $50, considering nothing worked right. VERY DISAPPOINTED! read more

I'm not quite sure about the negative reviews I'm seeing. This hotel is very fine and my husband and I are super picky. It's clean , quiet, staff is very kind. Smoke and pot smell? Not in any part of the hotel I was in!!! Pets are not allowed. Everything in our King room on 2 nd floor was great. Give this a chance, right off the exit. I wish Breakfast was included, but they at least offer tons of choices for a fee without having to leave. read more

So I've been on the road for 4 months and am a Spire Elite customer w holiday In family hotels. I stopped in to sleep for a few hours before discontinuing the rest of my 11 hour drive. I asked if they had a pet policy and they said certain sixes and were going to dismiss me. I asked if spire elite made any difference. The African American lady communicated to another desk attendant, that I " had pets" I assured her it was only 1 and he's been traveling with me for a year without issue I'm dead on my feet about to sleep in a parking lot when I just wanted to pay full price for 4 hours of sleep because someone wanted to act funny , didn't even ask how big my dog was. She tried to instruct me to the comfort inn. But how useless can you be to your corporation than to send a good customer to a competitor. Who was booked up. Good night and good riddance. read more

We stayed 3 days and 2 nights here. For the most part it was a pleasant stay, checkin and check out was easy and front desk staff were nice. We had an executive king room, not sure what was executive about it, it had a basic set up of any other room. There was a fridge and microwave, so I guess that is what made it executive along with the king bed. The bed was comfortable and the pillows, I just melted into. I felt like I was sleeping on clouds, one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in hotel wise. Now for the negative. There was no hot water, we called the front desk and was told maintenance would be up. They never showed up. The water is lukewarm at best, but has good water pressure for a hotel of its size. There was dust on the light fixtures in the room and you could see where the so called renovations were half done and not quality work. The tiles in the bathroom did not match up to the toilet and the wallpaper on the side of the sink, I guess the person just got tired. Bar Louie is the restaurant located inside the hotel, see my review on Bar Louie if you want details. There were proms going on and events,but there were no incidents of noise; however I did have some teens next door wanting to play knock and run, but I got that squared away on day 1. I would choose this hotel again, it is located right off the interstate and accommodated my needs. Just make sure cleaning staff dusts properly! read more

This place is dirty, old and loud. They still use the old magnetic strips that always loosing their programs. I have to go to the front desk daily to get my key reprogrammed. There are cars broken down and wrecked in the parking lot. That have been here for 3-4 weeks at least. One wash and dryer for guest and they suck. Find someplace better if you can. read more

There was water coming out of the sealing becuz of the rain in the bar downstairs, I was watching it it while I was siting here for 20 minutes waiting on someone to get a drink order or food, no one came so us 3 left an went o 350 brewing co. But Go to the Finley. Unless you need Wifi, if you can make it it with WiFi you'll be in a much better updated hotel(Finley park). Large TVs but no Ethernet an when I was there the WiFi was broken. read more

I tend to get cold at night so We asked for more blankets the night we checked in and was told we could not have them due to the house keeping being closed. We even offered to come down and get them, "No, housekeeping is closed" is what she stated again. The next day before we on with our day we call for more washcloths and an extra blanket. Off the bat she was rude, asking how many people were in the room and that we cold only have 1 blanket. once we hung up I called Priceline since that is who we booked with and they called Holiday inn to try and resolve the issue, I was told that the situations would be handled and that we would have another blanket and more towel when we got back later that evening. I wish that was the case. When we got back we could not believe it. we thought we had entered another room! Not only did they not leave the blanket or the towels they completely dismantled the bed and took the sheet! we had no sheet, pillow cases and no blanket on the bed. A complete mess. We checked out immediately! but not before taking pictures and a video of course. I am still waiting on a refund from them or Priceline not sure who. I will be getting to the bottom of this! This Holiday Inn use to be a well-kept hotel but now Im starting to see little negative changes. I have always encouraged family and friends to stay here versus staying downtown or anywhere else. There is a Bar Louie in this hotel, its only 25 mins from from the city and its close to Tinley Park. This time around the chair in the room was broken and the microwave started smoking when it was used. Maintenance guy came and replace the microwave. BUT he connected the refrigerator and microwave on the same outlet adapter that cause the electrical problem in the first place. "FIRE HAZARD!" This is basic one on one fire safety. Where is the Electrician??? Hopefully the other 500 rooms do not have their appliances connected like this room.smh. read more

I'm grateful to have escaped alive. Stayed here for a dance convention with my daughter and mother. As we walked to our room, we saw 3 men loitering in the hallway. Later on that night there were loud male guests roaming the hallways using loud profane vocabulary. My 10-year old daughter heard that. My room phone did not work so I called the front desk with my cell. The front desk told me they did have security but couldn't control other guests at all times. They stated that they would send security up to our floor. After an hour, the noise did not stop and we heard doors slamming. We called 911 because we could not again reach the front desk. I feared for our safety. I spoke to the hotel manager and was assured it was safe and should be a quiet place to stay. We stayed Saturday night and that was a mistake. At 11:30pm-1:45am, there was a domestic disturbance down the hall. We again called 911. Police arrested and removed both participants who were screaming at the top of their lungs. My 73 year-old mother could hear all this without her heading aides in. There was also a fight on the second floor and by the bar on the first floor. I saw blood on the floor on a trail to the men's room at 5:30am Sunday morning. I have pictures of the blood, which I posted so others can appreciate the "cleanliness" of this property and management's urgency in cleaning it up. Bar closes at 2:30am so it had "only" been sitting there for 3 hours when I saw it at 5:30am. Maybe they ran out of mops. We got very little sleep two nights in a row because there are problems at this hotel that management refuses to admit. I looked out my peephole Saturday night when I heard trouble and the women I saw walking down the hall appeared to be ladies of the night. Stay anywhere else but here. read more

We had a mediocre experience staying at this hotel. Nothing too majorly wrong, but nothing exceptionally great. My biggest issue was in making reservations. We were staying at this hotel for a family wedding, and I called 3 different times to make the reservation but every person I spoke to did not know about the wedding block of rooms, even though I confirmed with the groom and my mother in law had been successful in reserving her room with the wedding code. Finally I had her call and modify her reservation to add a room for me & my husband. The other downside was that the hotel offers a shuttle though 2 of the 3 times we tried to use it, we were told the driver was on break and it was not available. I don't think I'll have much reason to be back in Matteson but if I am, I'll look to stay at a different hotel. read more

This hotel is not clean and many things do not work. Avoid this place, driving a few extra miles to find a different place is very much worth it. There are so many leaks mold/mildew is an issue for you do not even enter the building as there are buckets everywhere to catch the leaks. The manager Michele is extremely rude and accused me of manipulating people by simply asking to check out a day early. The breakfast was disgusting and not worth it. It was buffet style with very little food available and what was there was dried out. There has been no upkeep on this hotel at all, avoid at all costs. read more

This place has had a successful facelift. We stayed here for a 30 year college reunion; our last stay was for the 20 year. Things were much better this time around. The room was updated nicely. My only complaints were no mini fridge/bar and no toilet paper holders. One had to set the TP on a little shelf under the sink because the holders were nonfunctional. Staff was excellent---helpful, friendly, professional. Brandon was first-class! Bar Louie is a big improvement over the Razzmatazz lounge from the past---at least as far as appearances go. Free coffee in the morning, in to go cups, was very welcome. Bar Louie had a disturbingly long list of post 9pm rules, which made me wonder about the potential for trouble. Pool looked good---big and clean. Banquet buffet food was surprisingly good. This Holiday Inn is fine and servicable, but no more than that. Don't be put off by the odd location...this is actually a nice hotel. The hotel is situated in what seems to be an office building parking lot, a bit removed from everything else around it. The hotel doubles as a conference center, so it has that enormous conference hotel feel to it. I was upgraded to a suite which was nice, although there was a lot of unused space in the room. The room was clean and had everything I needed, but they should consider replacing the ancient heating/cooling units. The hotel was relatively empty and had a desolate feel to it. Even the bar in the lobby was empty. But for a business stay I wasn't looking for anything rowdy anyways. One thing that did bother me during my stay was the unpredictability of the convenience store in the lobby. It's independently owned and impossible to predict whether or not it will be open. So don't count on it. I would probably stay here again if in the area, just because it was clean and there's plenty of places to eat nearby. read more

I recently attended a banquet at the Holiday Inn Chicago Matteson Conference Center (mid-October 2017) but did not stay in the hotel. This was a very large gathering. The service was great and the food perfect; crisp vegetables perfectly cooked, and the main course (beef and chicken) and dessert (cheesecake) delicious. Glassware, table linens and silverware were clean and sparkling. Not too many people at Bar Louie (the Cubs weren't playing that afternoon). The renovations made in 2012 are long completed. The modifications made are logical ones. Enjoyed my Sunday afternoon at the HI-Matteson. read more

I grew up near this location but I hadn't stayed here until many years later, in 1996. I had a rather pleasant and memorable experience with that visit. Fast forward twenty years. I finally returned with my fiancé to spend our anniversary just getting away in the area that I'm from. It was very nostalgic. We decided to make this location our annual getaway for our anniversaries. We returned a year later, an then stayed for three days on our third stay in 2018. That time I started to realize that the place was not what it once was. One of the things we enjoyed here was the hot tub. Last year a large group of unruly, unsupervised children were wreaking havoc in the hot tub and somehow managed to break the pump. That was the end of our enjoyment. I figured that they'd have it fixed in a few weeks. This year we arrived, got into our room, changed, and headed to the pool room for some good high temperature relaxation. It was the one thing that we were really looking forward to. When we got there we found a shoddily made barricade blocking the area where the hot tub should be. In place of a bowl of steaming happiness was a tarp draped across a hole that clearly had no hot water in it. We decided to inquire at the front desk about it only to be informed that the hot tub had been out of order for about a year, with no plans to repair it. How in the hell does a hotel get away with charging as much as this place does and then not even repair and maintain the conveniences that bring back repeat customers? This was an unforgivable disappointment for us, and we will be finding a new place to spend our anniversary getaways at. This Holiday Inn location is done. read more

I will start first by telling you about the hotel. The hotel is 5 floors with only one very small working elevator. The hot tub is permanently closed. The desk staff are rude. The pool was way to hotThe rooms were very clean. Now onto my story. I checked in on Friday and left the following Saturday morning. My friend bought the room through Hotwire and I put my credit card on file with the hotel for incidentals. The clerk told me it would charge 25 dollars and be refunded within 3-5 business days. No problem as this is pretty standard and actually lower than what I am used to putting as a hold on my card. I went to the desk a few times to get additional things such as kids eat free tickets. Not once did they mention they accidentally charged my card 155.94. So I leave the next day and check my account to see this pending charge. I immediately call the hotel to be informed by Vanessa that it was a mistake and has already been refunded. She could not give me a reason as to why this happened or why I wasn't alerted to the situation. She then offered me the authorization code which any person would realize is completely worthless to the card holder. Standard practice is for the merchant to call and have the authorization removed. She then said her manager would not be in until 630pm and that she would call me back. I waited until 8:30pm and called back the hotel myself. I was then told that managers do not work weekends.... I was instructed that Jessica would be in at 9am and would call me back. I understand that I am not the managers top priority Monday morning. But, it's almost a day later and still haven't heard. Don't stay here unless you want to spend your vacation in an elevator, pay double for your room and swim in a HOT pool. Update: I have now called multiple times to get the run around and promises to have a manager call me. She has NEVER called me back. What has customer service come to these days. read more

This was a very interesting and terrible experience. The bed was hard as a rock. Kids were playing and taking over the entire lobby. Also, in the middle of the night people were yelling and using profanity down the halls as I was trying to sleep and trying to get in my room. I've never had this kind of experience with Holiday Inn but it was definitely not enjoyable. read more

We travel twice a month for swim meets around the country and this was on of those trips. I have to say this is one of the worst places we have stayed by far. 1. Property was dirty, trash overflowing from trash cans outside, empty bottles and cans in the entryways, hallways and elevator. 2. Very outdated but they are updating as I understand. 3. Room was very dated, mold around seal of bathtub, which did not drain, coffee pot was broken, and several outlets were broken. If there was another hotel available we would have left and lost the non refundable charge, but there wasn't so late. Overall very disappointed. read more
