Just north of the Kroger chain store and Dairy Mat, but you need a walk of several blocks or more for most dining and drinking options. The included hotel breakfast was less bad then I thought it would be, it was okay in fact. With variety.

The staff was also very friendly and welcoming, which always makes a difference. The location was perfect, close enough to where I needed to be without feeling hectic, and the price was great for the quality of the stay. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this hotel, especially for a Holiday Inn Express. I would absolutely stay here again if I'm ever in the area and highly recommend it.

Evening reception had nice soup, salad, cheese platter, cookies, snacks and beer/wine offerings. Breakfast is as expected with taco fixing bar. Room was cleaned daily. Also washer and dryer on 3rd floor which was nice. Only $1.25 for wash and dryer which front desk can get you quarters.

The first night, my upstairs neighbor was stomping, pounding, dancing, walking loudly, exercising or something of the type well past dark, until 1 a.m. or so. I normally don't have trouble sleeping in hotels, but when the walls are literally shaking there's only so much that the fan and a white noise app can do. The second night, I heard the same ruckus start up by about 9:30 p.m. as I was checking emails and preparing for the next day. Having not gotten my full night of sleep the day before, I was immediately filled with dread that I was in for another long night. I went downstairs to speak to the employee at the front desk (I'm sorry I didn't jot down her name) and explained the situation, asking if I could move rooms or we could find another solution. She very kindly offered to go speak to the resident(s) of the room above me and said if the noise continued after that, she could move me to a room on the 4th floor--just call down to the front and she could bring up the key. I have no idea what she said to my upstairs neighbor, but it absolutely worked. The noise died down, and I got a great night of sleep. Everything else about this hotel was great--super clean, great amenities and a modern, streamlined interior. Would stay here again (but maybe only on the top floor).

She kept telling "I am checking." Her nervous energy was weird. However, once I got in the room, I was pleasantly surprised at how big it was. As a travel agent, having a well-rounded experience is crucial, especially when telling clients about my experience. Having the room be big and clean is definitely a plus. The location is great for exploring and walking around Royal Oak, and is a short drive to surrounding areas, like Birmingham or Detroit.

I did struggle to figure out where the parking lot for the hotel was and ended up circling twice. The hotel check in staff explained parking was included in the $25 incidental fee. The check in was easy to do however the staff was talking fast and I didn't understand some of the things she was saying. The room was nice and large and was also kept clean. The bed was comfortable. The hotel breakfast was very good. The hotel check out staff was a lot more pleasant. Overall I would recommend this hotel to stay in
