I went here for a sorority and dinner event. I actually forgot this place existed. It is tucked away behind the Somerset mall which is an upscale place for the area. The hotel not so much. It is in need of some updates however the conference room venue was great. They had a nice setup, attentive staff and good audio system. I am not too sure about the rooms but the conference center was a good spot to have events. read more

The hotel isn't new and feels a bit dated, but it was very clean and welcoming, which more than makes up for its age. It's conveniently located right across from the mall, making shopping and dining super easy. The cleanliness really stood out you can tell the staff takes pride in maintaining the property. The hotel also has a bar with a happy hour, which is a nice feature, though the bartender wasn't the most pleasant and she seemed to have a bit of an attitude. Mixed feelings here... it is near the middle. Some good, some bad, fortunately no ugly. We stayed here for the first time on one of our recent eating drinking and shopping trips that involved destinations in Troy, Clawson, and Royal oak. We normally stay at Hilton properties since we are Hilton honors members. We decided to give this one a try because it is so close to the Somerset Mall . Sometimes the price here is better than the surrounding Hilton properties and sometimes they're not. We got a room of the north side of the building hoping for a better view than the Detroit skyline which is visible from the south side of the building unfortunately there is nothing to look at to the north. I was hoping maybe to view the sky bridge at Somerset but we were mistaken. The positioning of the building did not allow for that. So down to the nitty gritty... The thermostat has a motion sensor that turns the air conditioner off if you're not in your room for a while. Not good on a 93° day . The room was clean and the fifth floor the evening of our stay with extremely quiet I did not hear a single voice or hear a single door slam. I can't tell you the last time that was the case in a hotel and there were plenty of cars in the parking lot. An ice machine was nearby however they charged $4 for a bottle of water at the little store outside the lobby, no complimentary water bottle was provided. It is an older property but they keep it in nice condition. I'm thinking 3 and 1/2 stars. Would we stay here again? If we needed to come up here on a certain weekend and the Hilton hotel prices were higher than this place considerably... Yes. But if we do not have to ...no. But honestly Id much rather earn Hilton honors points. We'll see read more

Was in town for a hockey tournament an we stayed here. We have stayed at others in the area (Hampton HGI, and Marriott). Rooms were decently sized, clean, and heat worked well. They assigned our team a mtg room which was nice. Lots of well lite parking and check in was easy. They had fresh cookies out for the first night we stayed. Water pressure was ok. Elevators are slow and the hotel is dated. Not grandma and grandpas house dated, but it could use a refresh. House cleaning would be nice. Hallways are loud, you hear everything. All doors slam unless caught. Breakfast was not included, so a microwave would be nice in the morning. Not bad but not great. Would prefer a chain for a tourney. read more

I'm only here because it is the required hotel for the event I'm attending. The staff has been fantastic. Super helpful. And they try to be accommodating. The problem is that the hotel does not have any modern amenities you would expect * no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms. I'm paying $10 per day rental for my fridge. * no water bottle refill station * No housekeeping. We are here for 4 nights. We were told point blank that we would not get housekeeping during our stay. So we have 3 towels to last 4 days. And we have to put our trash outside the door every day. * It's noisy. Unfortunately I got stuck with a room next to the elevator. But that is the least of the noise. There doesn't appear to be any soundproofing anywhere. Noise from the lobby carries up. And I have the neighbors from HELL - yes I'm talking about you room 304 -- who just won't shut the F up until midnight. Not that I plan to be in Detroit again anytime soon. But if I am, I will most definitely NOT be staying here. read more

Great, classic hotel to stay at for any occasion. I came here in the winter. Therefore, I was not excited about galavanting around town every evening. The hotel provides the comforts of staying in. The restaurant and room service are incredible. The rooms are close clean and cozy. It helps that the staff is friendly, doing their best to make everyone's stay comfortable. This hotel has free Internet and a gym to work out in. Of course, my favorite was the food. I was signed mpressed by the tastiness of the meals. My favorite was the salmon dinner. The Salmon was cooked to be perfection. My second to favorite was the French onion soup with a crispy breadstick on the side. The breakfast is not the typical breakfast buffet found at hotels. The breakfast is served in a elegant restaurant with many entrees to choose from. The wait for food is not long. Overall, a great hotel! read more

My review is based solely on their shuttle driver who took two very ambulatory guests to Rite Aid and blocked the entire ramp and most of the entrance while he waited for them to buy toiletries. Rude. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't allow that at their hotel. read more

I really enjoyed my one night stay here! Great room, great staff and nice bar! They have a pretty decent workout room which includes 2 treadmills, 2 elliptical machines a stationary bike and a stair master...TV is in the room also. Workout facility is open from 5AM to midnight which is very convenient. A patron sitting at the bar was raving about the breakfast here as he had a gluten free egg white and salmon frittata. I decided to have it the next morning and it was as good as he said it would be. Also, they serve awesome homemade/hotelmade chocolate chip cookies at the front desk. read more

I was there on business and the hotel staff could not have been more polite and accommodating. On the nights we stayed (my spouse joined me), it was quiet and we had no trouble keeping the room comfortable on what were some very hot and humid nights. I had an evening of hors d'oeuvres and a lunch sandwich buffet provided by the hotel, which were both fine - again, the staff could not have been nicer. The only shortcomings were that the bed felt small (I think it was a double, as opposed to a queen) and the room and bathroom were overall, a bit dated - however, clean and accommodating, which is what truly matters to me for this type of travel. The location was good, very close to Somerset Collection and nearby communities (Birmingham, Royal Oak) for some fun exploration and nice dining options, if you're not from the area. read more

I love this hotel!!!!!! The concierge is amazing, they bend over backwards to make sure that you have everything you need. I have stayed there a few times and couldn't believe how wonderful even the cleaning staff was towards the guests! I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in the area. You can get good rates if you pre-pay. I had to stay there with my Mom who is handicapped and they were extremely helpful by giving me a handicap room that was close to the door. Very affordable Hotel located right in the Troy business district and beside Somerset Mall. The hotel is spacious yet comfortable where you do not have Valet Parking on Bellman around just for tips, it is simple, clean and in a great location. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are spacious however we did notice you can hear toilets flushing and other activities in other rooms. We would stay here again. read more

I have been staying here with family for the past 10 years. I benchmark stays at other places to my experiences at Somerset Inn because I think its great. The greatest thing about this location is having spacious rooms to come home to after a busy day running around Somerset Mall and visiting family. Given the impeccable wifi, I would imagine staying here for work trips would be great as well. The check-in agents were kind and quick. This time around we had a room facing the courtyard. We woke up to the sunlight balancing off our corner of Michigan foliage. There was plenty of hot water and great a la carte breakfast at Crumpets. The menu and setting has been the same since my first stay and it still in perfect condition. I shamelessly Black Friday-ed during this visit and the location of the hotel made it very easy to move between the Somerset Mall and "home". We were able to hang around in Downtown Detroit, Royal Oak, Cass Lake, Rochester Hills, and Birmingham easily by driving short distances. Our room was cleaned every day at a decent time (I've learned that this is a luxury at chain hotels at higher prices in more popular cities). Breakfast was hot and accessible every day. I felt safe and comfortable (again, this is a luxury in comparison to other places at this price range). I'm already excited about my next visit. read more

We ended up staying at the Somerset Inn because the Radisson Kingsley was gross. We hightailed it out of there immediately! My husband yelped local hotels and decided on this hidden little secret. The staff heard about our traumatic experience at the Kingsley and they actually upgraded us to a suite!!! How nice was that??? The Somerset Inn has beautifully spacious rooms that are pristine!! Extremely clean! The bed was comfortable and their pillows like heavenly little clouds to rest your tired head on. Why only 4 stars? The decor. It was almost sterile. Although much of the furniture appeared new (or just really well kept) it was a little outdated style wise. There were virtually no guests (this hotel appears to cater to the business crowd...we stayed on the weekend). It was actually eerily quiet. I only saw one other guest. Overall, we would definitely stay here again. It was a great value and in an extremely convenient location. Provided you aren't an interior decorator you will not be disappointed! read more

If you want to relive the 80s, this is the hotel for you . We stayed here in November 2019. Everything is outdated . From the lobby to the hallway carpet to the rooms. Everything ! On the plus side, the staff were exceptionally nice and helpful . We ate breakfast at Crumpets. Food was really good, but again, it looked like we were dining in the 80s. I was at Somerset for 2 nights for a wedding. The reception was in the hotel too. The hotel was very pretty and accommodating. The room was decent-sized. Some weird decorating, but that's expected in hotels, right? Crumpets had GREAT breakfast and great drinks! The grand ballroom was a really great place for the wedding reception. Spacious - big dance floor. And, you know how wedding food (no matter what they choose to serve) always comes out lukewarm and kinda blah? This wedding food was EXCELLENT. Exceptional. Upon checking in, Harold greeted us and made the process quick and easy. He was very pleasant to dress with. Later we spoke with Lisa and she was equally as wonderful. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. We loved the door to the garden area; although the weather didn't allow us to enjoy it. We dined at the restaurant Crumpets for breakfast and couldn't have been more pleased. Excellent service by Dee and a delicious variety of items to choose from. Hotel rooms are old and it seems hotel is stuck in 1990's. The service is not great but location is awesome. My recommendation for hotel is as follows: 1- complete redo of rooms and lobby. Time to get to 2018 2-build a real exercise room if you want business travelers 3- retrain all employees on customer service 4- see if Hyatt or Marriott or other major chain Is interested in buying or franchising the property Good luck! I had a reservation tonight at Somerset Inn. Disclosure - I used to live in Troy and am a Troy High graduate, so I've known this hotel since the 80's and have always thought highly of it. Anyway, tonight I planned to stay there. Unfortunately, due to weather and United Airlines issues, after four hours of tarmac and boarding and un-boarding twice at O'Hare, my flight into Detroit was cancelled and I can't get into Detroit until tomorrow morning now. So once I got my flights rearranged, I called Somerset Inn to let them know that I wouldn't make it tonight due to my canceled flight, and I needed to cancel my room. Beverly stated that she couldn't cancel because I booked it through a travel website and not them, so she couldn't cancel my room. I explained that I wasn't online and couldn't access my work travel website to cancel it online. She wouldn't accept the verbal cancel. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager on duty until 7 am. Really?? The hotel has NO management from 6PM and after?? So i had to deal with getting out of the airport, etc. I finally found the corporate travel emergency number and called them. The agent there said she could cancel it, but was worried that now that it was after 6 pm, I would still be charged. So she called them directly. She again spoke with Beverly and got the SAME runaround. This is a travel agent professional who deals with hotels and travel for a living, and she was told that they couldn't cancel the room. The agent COULD cancel it, but she wanted the hotel to not charge me since the flight canceled and it was out of my control. Beverly wouldn't help, and gave the same story that a manager would not be there until tomorrow morning. So needless to say: 1. I will never book a room at Somerset Inn 2. I travel a LOT, have a large social network, and will spread the word a LOT to everyone to not book there 3. I will try in the morning to make sense of this with whatever manager is on duty to make this right. If that happens, I will update my review here. C'mon people - if someone has a flight cancel, any decent hotel will honor it and accept a cancellation. read more

I've had to stay here a few times due to snowstorms and found it a pleasant motel. The rooms are trendy and decorated in a burnished silver/pewter color. They have Keurig machines in the room, which are a plus when you are cold. Restaurant is ok, typical hotel food. read more
