Everything about the UP seems expensive and this Holiday Inn Express is no different. I paid 275.00 per night for a Thursday and Friday night stay in late August for a non-balcony room. That's the only semi-negative thing I will say about this place, The hotel is nice, the workers were nicer, the rooms were clean and the halls were quiet. The continental breakfast was pretty solid too. Bananas (finally! after 9 days in Michigan hotels, I was beginning to think there was a law against them) mini omelets, bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls, turkey sausage and a pancake machine. The real star of this hotel is the back patio view. Sitting on their deck enjoying the views of Lake Superior while having a cold beverage is pretty amazing. The rooms with lake views have their own balconies or you can be a cheap ass like me and share the patio with the others. read more

We had a great stay at this Holiday Inn Express. The location is up the hill past downtown Munising (a 2 minute drive). The hotel is newer and clean. The bathroom was a good size. The hot water was good. Water pressure was fine. The room's heat was welcome on the cold evening. Past the lobby the Inn has a nice seating area for breakfast. We found it to be a good spot to sit and eat food from town. The morning breakfast was busy both mornings. The staff did a good job keeping the coffee full and the food stocked. It was a nice money saver to not need to go out for breakfast in the morning. We opted for the cheaper room facing the parking lot. If I stayed here again, I would spring for a bay-side (Lakeview) room. We had a beautiful and bright sunrise over the bay. The staff was friendly. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here while we were in the UP to check out the Pictured Rocks. The Holiday Inn in Munising is definitely a hotel that takes advantage of the amazing beauty of the area. Sitting high up on a hill above Lake Superior it provides guests with amazing views of the Painted Rocks National Lakeshore and of Grand Island. I was pleased with every part of our stay. While they charge a premium for their location, it is definitely a great experience. Our rooms is what I have come to see as a standard for a Holiday Inn Express. The room is a good size room, we had a queen bed, desk, and a refrigerator which was very nice to have. The bed was comfortable and the pillows helped me have a great night's sleep. We did not have a room on the take side so unfortunately, our view was of the parking lot. The great news is that the patio is a great place to hang out, have a drink and enjoy the view. We took advantage of the patio by getting some food at the local fish and chips food truck just down the road. We brought it back to the hotel and sat on the back porch and enjoyed our dinner while we looked out over the lake and eventually got to see the sunset. This has to be the best spot for enjoying dinner in town. The breakfast was nice and again followed the standards for a Holiday Inn Express. They have expanded the hotel recently and added another 16 rooms. This is great because more people will be able to get in here. There are other options in town to consider but we had a great experience here. read more

They have a very nice outdoor patio for the breakfast room, and a nice big swimming pool (indoor) and hot tub. You have amazing views of the lake from here, and its only a 5 minute drive into Munising. It looks kind of far on the map, but its not. You can get to Pictured Rocks NL within 10 minutes. Breakfast was good, typical Holiday Inn Express stuff. Service was very friendly. My only complaint was that on our 2nd night we wanted to visit the hot tub and it was closed for cleaning. Why don't they just clean the hot tub during the night or early morning when it's closed anyway? It was only 9pm when we tried to use it. read more

Our room was very clean, spacious, comfortable, modern... Basically everything you could want out of a hotel room. Even a back door onto a little patio seating area! I highly recommend getting a lake view room, if there are any available. The view does not disappoint. We were on the first floor, where I was a little worried the view might be obstructed by trees or whatever, but you can see in my morning coffee picture that we still had a great view. Would absolutely love to stay here again and for a longer time--and at a time when there is no pandemic, so we can fully enjoy everything they have to offer. read more

We stayed in the new part which was excellent!!! The fan in our bathroom didn't work and the switch was on the other side of the wall that would turn on and off every time you walked past. I had to tape a piece of paper over it to stop it from turning on and off. We stayed for three nights and had no housekeeping. It has a wonderful view of the lake so that's a plus!!! read more

I guess it would give this a 3.5 star if available. I leaned to the 4 star side because the hotel staff was extremely friendly and the hotel itself was very clean and the view is incredible. We were only able to reserve one night online because they showed they were booked the next two nights. When we actually arrived at the hotel we asked if they had rooms available for the next night. They said absolutely, and moved some other's reservations around in order to accommodate us. Plus we got the room cheaper than advertised online. Great service! The down side to the hotel is that the walls are paper thin, which many have mentioned. The rooms and hotel need some upgrading. The A/C unit is really loud and blows right in your face if you sleep on the right side of the bed. There was hardly any water pressure and the water would not get very hot. The interior latch was broken and the Wi-Fi is terrible. Also the fire alarm kept going off every few minutes, so we left to go eat and do some gambling. When we got back they had fixed it. If I were to come back here again I believe I would stay here again, it seems to be the best place around. read more

first of all this is a great location!!! ideal. I would stay here again and i sincerely hope to. I fully recommend it if you are in the area. It's close to the town of Munising, water falls, boat tours, light house, what limited restaurants are in town. It has a nice water view and is dog friendly. Make sure to get the lake view. They have bird feeders and hummingbird feeders so it was fun to set out on our back chairs and watch the birds and the lake. I like they had a chair but there were stains that were kinda off putting. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were not great. The staff were friendly but the billing mistake was also off putting. hot tub was huge and hotter than typical . not jets.. it was like a very hot pool. Sauna appeared not to work but that was not an issue. We were on the first floor and had sliding glass door. it was nice to slide the glass and go sit outside our room enjoying the lake view and birds. Unfortunately the family playing loud board games made the quiet scenery overshadowed by their fun. there was a annoyed part of me that wanted to blast 50 shades of Grey audio book to get rid of them .. but of course i didn't. My husband is a diamond reward travels as he travels alot for work. The cost of this hotel was more than typical and they wanted enough points to cover a day in Hawaii. When we got there the guy at the desk asked if either of us were military veterans and claimed that saved a 100 a night and he'd take care of it. when we got the bill after our 2 nights there was no discount and it only saved about 20 a night. I big difference from his claim so that was very aggravating. The price ... billing discrepancy, fact the employee didn't address it ... and huge stains in our room kept this from achieving the 5 star. read more

This was a great Holiday Inn Express. We were on the 3rd floor with a balcony view of the lake. It was such a beautiful view and I highly recommend! Breakfast staff was very helpful and friendly, and there was a good assortment of breakfast items. My only complaint was that we were at the end of the hallway with a room on each side of us, and every time they closed their doors they slammed. It was very noisy! We also had no privacy between our balcony and the one next to us, which we would have appreciated. Would still stay here again! The lake was so beautiful! read more

There is only 1 vending machine (soda). 1 small store with few items (clothing, handful of potato chips & laundry items). Oh yeah only 1 washer/ 1 dryer for guests. 1 Elevator. Exit stairs on one end of the building. DONT BOOK ANY ROOMS that end with #27. You'll hear doors and ppl walking all day long. Should I go on? ....not kid/teenage friendly (no game room). Unimpressed! Overpriced and overrated. We booked as IHG Club Members expecting some perk from that benefit. Nope, we were treated to the parking lot view instead of the bay, (was there a lake?) That made our room light all night even with the shade closed. The noise was constant all night as the walls were not sound deadening and there seemed to be driving a forklift or some sort of heavy equipment on the floor above. The room was clean and the accommodations adequate as I'd expected for twice the price of other accommodations. Next time I'l just continue on to Marquette. read more

Kept up all night by doors slamming, a TV blaring non stop, hacking cough next door, kids running up and down the hall screaming. My "Private" patio is not private at all as the communal patio is right next to it with not privacy screening. Moldy bathroom and shower. Wonderful stay at the Holiday Inn Express Minising-Lakeview location! The room was tidy and comfortable, and they provided great service on check-in and check-out. We asked for more shampoo and conditioner and they were up almost immediately to deliver it! The room had everything we needed. I noticed there were a plethora of outlets. There are 6 outlets just at the desk. There's an outlet for each bedside as well, with some accompanying each lamp. It's awesome! Our family was able to charge up for the day without fighting for outlets. The room also has a mini-fridge for use which was really nice! We opted for the non-lakeside view because it was cheaper and we needed to stay on a budget. However, we did venture outside and the view from the other side is phenomenal. If you're not on a budget and can afford it, I'd recommend it! It seems those rooms have personal balconies as well! We enjoyed their continental breakfast both mornings that we stayed, and it was delicious! They have healthy options of fruit, oatmeal, cereal and yogurt with some other options to indulge in - cinnamon rolls, sausage, pancakes, bagels, etc. Breakfast ends at 9:30 daily. They also have coffee, tea and hot chocolate available all day. The hotel location is close to the town as well and we were within driving distance to a few falls - Munising and Wagner were my favorites. We came during off season as the snow was still there, so there were a few falls that were closed - there were also many restaurants that hadn't opened up for Spring yet either. The hotel was very helpful in guiding us to things we could do! Would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the Munising area! read more

This is the nicest hotel in town. We came on a Thursday night and was able to get a balcony room facing Lake Superior on the third floor. At night you can see the stars easily. The sauna's door was broken, but the pool and hot tub area has an adults only hour from 10-11 PM. I got some herbal tea at night from the front desk. My only complaint is that the guest room walls are paper thin. We could hear every single word of the conversation next door. read more

Stayed here for a three day snowmobiling trip putting three in a room. We really liked the place. Very clean, large rooms. Decent sized bathroom and we had a fridge, micro and nice TV. The breakfast was better then expected. The staff very friendly. Across the street from a spur trail that takes you to 419. Gas station very nearby off the trail. On our way to dinner our first night we stopped to see if there was any rooms. Chelsie at the front desk helped us find a room and was very kind. While we didn't use the pool, it appeared to be huge and a huge hit with the kids. The bad: Overall lack of soundproofing. As a veteran traveler, work and pleasure, I don't remember staying at a hotel with paper thin walls and floors. Ever. We could hear either a herd of elephants In the room above us or someone just walking in their room. NOT what I would expect with a newer building. Also, the bedding. The pillows. Not so comfortable. My daughter & I are a couple of wanna-be princesses so of course we had to find the local chain hotel. We usually do Marriott but Munising has Holiday Inn Express. We found it just as nice as Marriott. There's been a recent renovation; it's wonderful. From the outside, the hotel looks like a large rustic cabin. Inside, it's all 21st century: wifi, sundries, excellent breakfast/great room with attached outdoor patio with plenty of seating, flowers, and a great view of the water and Grand Island. V quiet & peaceful. The pool is big and has a fun mushroom waterfall. There's a large hot tub and also a dry sauna. Plenty of towels and seating, and a water cooler. Adult only time is 10-11p. There's also a small but well-equipped exercise room that you won't need bc Munising has many hiking trails with waterfalls. The rooms have it all-fridge, micro, Keurig, comfy beds, and a pillow selection. Breakfast was huge: cinnamon rolls, donuts, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs & folded egg/cheese omelettes, sausage patties, a pancake maker, cereal selection, oatmeal, yogurt, apples & bananas, milk, 3 different kinds of juice, tea, hot chocolate, and Cadillac coffee-which was excellent. Smooth and flavorful. A bit pricey but no regrets on this one. read more

My wife and I stayed for a couple nights in mid June, 2014. We stayed in a room on the 2nd floor with a view of Lake Superior and Grand Island. Some of the best views we had while we visited in Musining were from our balcony! I wasn't sure what to expect from a Holiday Inn Express located in the UP, but I have to say the staff was exceptional in every way. When I say staff, I mean every staff person we encountered was incredibly friendly, helpful, and obviously dedicated to providing us the best service possible. This includes the front desk staff on ALL shifts (I feel the need to mention this as I typically have less-than-stellar encounters with desk staff the later the hour gets in the day). The staff in charge of the breakfast buffet were also incredible, paying astute attention to food levels and ensuring tables were cleaned the moment they were unoccupied. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. The living space and furniture was both spacious and practical. WiFi service was good and I didn't encounter any disruptions in service. The water pressure in the shower was pretty good and I had a warm shower with no cold spikes during the 7:30 - 8:30 morning period. I highly recommend staying here, and will go out of my way to obtain reservations at this place in case we find ourselves in the Musining area in the future! read more

As has been noted, the staff at the Munising Holiday Inn Express is beyond exceptional. These people will bend over backwards to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. Rooms are clean, large and well appointed. Lake view rooms afford an awesome view of Lake Superior. Probably a little more expensive than other hotels in the area but well worth it. The breakfast is "meh". I don't particularly fault this establishment. It is on part with every other free hotel breakfast I've had....as they say...you get what you pay for. read more
