The motel was a big disappointment. While the view was fantastic, the room was not clean. There was mold and peeling paint in the bathroom. The bottom of the tub was filthy and there was a clear ring around the toilet bowl. I question whether the room was cleaned at all prior to our arrival. For the price paid, the room should have been tidy. We complained during check-out, but there was no response other than a note taken down on a post-it.

We just returned from staying in the brown house here. We (and members of our family) have stayed at this motel periodically over the last 15-20 years and this will be our last time. Let me start with the pros because it's a short list. Pros: -the sunsets are very nice to view here. Cons: -I always check the beds first thing. Well, all 3 beds had a gross amount of hair and dirt on the sheets as well as indentations from where people laid!! THEY DID NOT EVEN CHANGE THE BEDDING!!!! We arrived in the evening and had to wash all the bedding before we could go to bed that night. -the house was very dirty when we arrived. Carpets did not appear vacuumed (I dropped something and when picking it up it was covered in cobwebs) -speaking of cobwebs, they were everywhere....I mean everywhere! I don't think they cleaned before opening the house for the season! We literally had a spider on our breakfast plate, in our purse, in the kitchen sink multiple times, in the bed. -the toilet started leaking across the floor and wasn't flushing properly. We had maintenance come look at it. He tried to tell us it was condensation. Um, no. He ended up needing to change the O ring. -the bathroom sink was draining extremely slowly. We went to the front desk to let them know and the lady working asked if we tried plunging it! Um, not our job!!! They never fixed it. -shower had black mold all the way around it (photo) -the porch furniture was dirty -living room furniture....well, by this point I decided not to sit on anything with fabric. It is very dated and didn't look clean so I sat on the hard dining room chairs all week. -Kitchen drawer fronts literally fell off when opening them. I know this is a long review but I want you to know what you're getting into if you're looking at staying here. We did let the owner know and he did compensate us one night back (out of a 5 night stay)

I often don't expect a lot when I stay at a motel. Although it was furnished in true "motel" fashion, several updates have been made. And, most importantly, it was really clean. Having two rooms was an added bonus. There were chairs near our door and several sitting areas near the bay. The only negative, I wish we were staying one more day.

Stayed at this motel recently and was unsure what to expect, drove all the way from the lower peninsula. Staff was friendly and very accommodating, website was easy to make reservations. The only cons I had were the room was advertised as no smoking but had an odd odor to it, also the beds were not comfortable at all. Overall though, it was a great location and a good experience, would consider returning to this motel.

View from rooms: Lake Superior. We saw loons swimming nearby.

This is a clean, inexpensive, and great little motel. The owner is very nice. The rooms are quite spacious and very very clean. You can't beat the view either! Lake Superior is literally 30 feet in front of the rooms. I would stay here again for sure.

I'm not going to lie I was a little worried about just how outdated the rooms were going to be and how clean it would be even after reading the reviews. Yes it is a bit out dated but very clean! We stayed in a room with kitchen and it was so wonderful and had a cabin feel almost. It was wonderful and the view from the room past the cars is water. Your right on the water and the grass is so green plenty of places to sit to watch the sunset, grill and sit at a picnic table and so on... we watched the sunset twice and it was so beautiful. I would absolutely stay here again when I go back to the U.P.

Good setting and good price. Extremely outdated and almost run down. Seems like a family ran place that just quit caring about their place.

Worst place I've stayed. Gross. Wouldn't recommend staying here one bit. Pay more and go to the Holiday Inn Express!

Clean rooms, reasonable rates, beautiful views, right on Lake Superior with a small beach area, very nice place to stay.

The hotel was dog friendly, clean, comfortable, and well-kept. The free breakfast was better than expected and gave us a good start each morning. Our room faced South Bay of Lake Superior, which made for a beautiful view -- especially at sunset (though you'll need a little patience, since the sun doesn't set until after 10 PM in the summer!). The location was convenient with lots of great activities nearby, making it easy to explore the area without driving too far. Overall, this hotel added comfort and relaxation to an adventurous trip. Would definitely stay again when passing through!

The price was high for a room with a lake view but their season is not very long so I understand. The location is good just a mile into town and a short drive to the western sights of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park. The room was decent nothing fancy except for the nice balcony looking out to the lake. Unfortunately the strong north wind and cold front limited our ability to sit outside except for a short bit. Welcome to Lake Superior at the very end of May! The breakfast room was super tiny for such a big place and on a Sunday morning it was cramped and hard to move around. Overall it worked for us.

On September 7th this year we stayed at the White Pine Lodge in Christmas, Michigan. Upon checki-in…read morewe were told nothing except the pool/hot tub was out of order. When checking out the next morning, there was a bedbug on a pillow. I was very discreet as I went to the front desk to let them know. It had already been a crappy morning because, unbeknownst to me, they had been without water for a week up until the day before our stay, their complimentary breakfast had no coffee, no juice, no meats or eggs, the waffle maker was broken, and though they also ran the attached convince store they wouldn't let you get that coffee without paying for it. The front desk person told a housekeeper of our situation then said they were calling the manager. After waiting half an hour because we were told the manager was on her way, we had to leave to make our next reservation. I made sure they had my contact info and was assured I'd be called. 7 hours later I called the lodge back and was told the manager, Amy, had left for the day. And that they didn't find anything else so she didn't know what management had decided about it. I asked to be called the next day and again nothing. So we went about our vacation. After returning to work from vacation I called the Sault Tribe in the U.P. who own the lodge. I was transferred to a woman named Jennifer and she listened to my situation. Then told me she was the wrong person to talk to and that I should be talking to Dan Doyle. She said she was going to email him about what I told her and CC me on that email. Never happened. It is now another week later and I called Dan Doyle to see what was going on. Had to leave a voicemail. It's been 3 days and nothing. Today I called the LMAS Health Department who is over that county. That lady said they can't do anything about bedbugs and I have to contact the owner Ok... soooooo.... the lodge basically said they didn't find any other bugs which likely means they didn't call an exterminator and just turned the room over. The management and owners don't seem to care and now neither does the health department. Mind you, I didn't ask for anything. Not a discount or refund. Nothing but to be contacted by management. They could have lied to me and said they fumigated the room, how would I know? But at least they would have appeared to give a shit. I will still file a complaint with the health department and BBB in Michigan so there is a paper trail and my conscious is clear. I just don't want any to get sick or take home bedbugs!! White Pine Lodge, Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians... how absolutely disgusting you run your businesses!!!

I arrived at 3:30 and the gas station / convenience store clerk/ front desk manager informed me that check in time was 4. I mentioned that my reservation stated 3, she said that is done by a 3rd party and not accurate. I asked if I could still check in, and told in no uncertain terms, no. The place is attached to a gas station, it is a sorry looking dump. It was too late to cancel the reservation I was told so I decided to stay someplace else and eat the cost of the reservation. I was happy to travel up to Marquette and stay in a nice hotel, not happy with my experience at this soon to be closed trap. Mike
