Staff we encountered were very friendly and professional. A pleasure to interact with. Despite having to go down a cement stairway to get inside to the main lobby (only discovered the ramp to the door a yard to the right later that evening) and the floor of the elevator needing immediate attention to fix tripping hazard, our stay was quite pleasant! Our King room (314) was comfortable, clean, and had many amenities (large mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, alarm clock radio, huge tv.) The bathroom was sparkling with a big mirror and bright lights. The shower head has three settings to choose from, the water pressure is great, and soap, shampoo, and conditioner are all provided. I love the corner chair with its little table and the hassock. We both used it at different times for reading or surfing the web for local restaurants. The King size bed was a little harder than I like (needs a mattress topper to be more body-forming & softer.) But was tolerable for the two nights we stayed. The walls aren't exactly sound proof (could hear all conversations in the hallway.) Location of the hotel is right in big shopping area. We were in the area to attend a convention in Monroeville (about 10 miles/ 20-30 minutes away (depending on traffic.) But we couldn't pass up the great price (compared to Monroeville hotels) plus we got to experience Homestead and what it has to offer. The free breakfast has many options, but healthier food would be better. I had a banana, a couple bites of an apple (which was bruised all around and past its prime), scrambled eggs and sausage patties. Lots of carb/grain-filled options available for those who aren't on a restrictive diet. Suggestion: Maybe offer a gluten free choice as well. Possibly have non-dairy yogurt as an alternative. Our second morning we opted to eat breakfast at a restaurant to eat better choices. Summary: enjoyed our stay and would stay here again because of location, cleanliness, prices, and friendly staff. read more

This Holiday Inn Express is good enough for the price, but overall it's by no means great. The staff was friendly and the room and bathroom were clean. That being said, the room was very small and the bed was extremely hard. The rooms are not sound proofed at all and we could hear the people in the room above us walking around all night as well as children running up and down the hall and other people opening and closing their doors. read more

It took me awhile to figure out how to start off this review as it started as a 2 star review, but the hotel's breakfast buffet brought it up to 3 stars. We did have about a 5 minute wait to get checked in, not a big deal. The room on the surface was clean, except when you touched the desk or end table and removed a couple layers of dust. Then the shower walls were soap scumming and gross. The tub part wasn't bad and for a win the water pressure was great. The bed? Exactly as every review we read said it would be: HARD! Advertised as being pillow topped, the only way that could be true is if they meant there were pillows placed atop the bed. If that was pillow topped then I'd hate to imagine the cinder block we would have been laying on. Smoke free? I guess that was optional for most other guests. Not only were the halls, lobby, and elevators filled with the smell of cigarette smoke and marijuana, it seeped its way into our room. As an asthmatic, I was glad to have my inhaler by my side. Now had we not had the breakfast buffet this review would seem pretty bleak, but this was by far one of the best buffets we've had in quite some time. There were seasoned potatoes (This Irish fatty loves her potatoes) and bacon. BACON! I haven't seen bacon at a breakfast buffet in YEARS! The food was delicious and the woman running the show was a beast. She didn't let anything run out and was cordial with all guests in the breakfast area. She was a true rockstar! While the price was right and the location prime... not sure if we'd make a return visit. read more

Good for the price! This Holiday Inn Express is located at the far end of The Waterfront shopping center. If The Waterfront were a traditional mall, this hotel would be down the side hall in between the travel agent and the tuxedo rental place. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was amicable. Bed was very firm. Bathroom was acceptably clean, but the shower walls didn't pass the fingernail scrape test. This is the first time in years that the free hotel breakfast wasn't a letdown. They had bacon! Who the hell puts out free bacon? Oh, and this "100% smoke free hotel" features hallways and elevator that intermittently reek of marijuana and cigarette smoke. Property was recently updated and in a good location although the signage is very small & easy to miss. Small property with few amenities. Bed & pillows were comfortable but room was very small. The baggage carts are those small, triangular-shaped carts that may work for 1 person and an overnight stay but for 2 adults staying multiple days, they required multiple trips to the car. Carts have nowhere to hang clothes and barely fit inside the room. There is no carpet and my feet got filthy on the flooring. Breakfast was the typical fare and decent. The guest laundry was not working (washing machine was broken). This was an issue as we were on a 14 day trip and at this property for 5 nights. Staff was ok but not very attentive or personable. Husband reported issue with no hand towels in the lobby men's room and issue was not rectified until day 4. Overall, I'd give this Holiday Inn Express an average score, nothing stood out and lots to be improved upon. Feels like they're cutting corners where they can. read more

It's kind of odd to think that this use to be a Popeye's. But let's be honest, it's a nice replacement. However it is on the small side. This place is set up nicely, even if it is on the small side they do use the space to the best of their ability. It may sound odd, but the lobby is in the basement. You have to go down to go in. This floor contains a majority of the amenities that a guest can use during their stay. The pool, business center and dining area for breakfast all are on this level. Rooms take up the second and third floor. The rooms aren't bad, sufficient for a quick stay. With it being on the newer side you really don't notice any wear and tear just yet. Bed was comfortable, shower was adequate, and even though you are near the railroad, you really don't hear it. The view is less than desirable if you are facing the fast food restaurant next door. Staff were amazing and accommodating. I was welcomed quickly when I walked in the door to check in and each time I walked through the lobby I was greeted and made sure that if I needed anything to make sure to let them know. Pricing wasn't bad for a last minute booking either, if i was in a pinch every again about needed a last minute place to stay, I would definitely choose this place again. read more

The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because their breakfast was good. My husband and I stayed here one night and I would not recommend it. The hotel was not very clean, the bathroom was disgusting and our shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel was completely empty. We notified staff. She came into our room complaining. She didn't have a "key" to unlock the shower gel holder so she said she was sorry but she couldn't provide us with anything because they didn't have extra bottles. The box spring had something all over the side of it which looked gross. Their was hair on our bed before we even sat down on it. The doors slam all night because there are no springs. Heating units are extremely loud. Pictures included. The location was nice and close to a lot of stores and restaurants but my advice is to stay elsewhere. read more

Awful experience. Our room, in the 100% smoke free hotel, reeked of cigarette smoke from the prior occupant. We asked the unfriendly desk clerk for another room and were given a much cleaner room located down a hallway that reeked of marijuana. Loud tv's in bedrooms could be heard in the hallway, shabby carpeting and feel to the hotel and immature, yelling guests were on every floor. We were booked for three nights (at a significantly overpriced $186 a night) and we checked out first thing the next morning and booked into a much nicer luxury hotel that also cost $40 less per night. I've stayed here before and had a good experience so I decided to book again. I prepaid my room months in advance so I didn't have any experiences with last minute prices. Standard check-in is at 3pm, but I arrived around 12:30pm not expecting a room and it turned out they had one ready for me. I know the rooms are smaller, which is a mark of the Express hotels. I actually love the size of the rooms. The staff is very friendly and quite helpful. One of the days it rained and Helen at the front desk let me borrow her umbrella to take out. It was so unexpected and very kind of her. This hotel has complimentary breakfast from 6am-9:30am. The location is close to shopping and restaurants as it's at the Waterfront. It's also convenient to the 376 and Southside. Their TVs have standard channels and the rooms include a refrigerator along with shampoo, conditioner, and soap in the bathroom. There is a good sized closet to hang your items, a desk with a chair, and a comfy chair to sit in as well. My room was clean and orderly. I'd stay here again! read more

Despite the CDC and Pennsylvania DOH saying vaxxed people don't need masks inside they still require it. You can't follow the guidance in the beginning and then deny in the end when we worked so hard. Follow the science. Breakfast is good but still not self service. Exercise room is closed. Why? likely because they don't want to clean it although we have found that surface contact spread is virtually zero. And, they don't recycle! That's an easy thing to do. These are minor issues I know and the hotel itself is nice. But they are important to me. We are IHG members but will stay at the Hampton Inn until IHG follows the guidance. read more

I really deeply wish I could give this place 0 Stars. The front desk workers are really nice and had no issues with them. But when it comes to management and getting breakfast it is the rudest people in the world. They have to serve you breakfast because Of COVID19 but everyday they have an attitude about it. The front desk staff were friendly but that is the only thing good about this hotel. Loud heating/cooling unit and thin walls made for a noisy night. The lobby and stairs are trashy: cardboard boxes piled up in the path of guests, unvacuumed carpets in the hallways and leaves on the outside steps. Not welcoming at all to guests. read more

Driving through the area and stopped here for the evening. Almost new hotel, very nice condition. My room was a little narrow and small but not too bad, very clean and nice. Bathrooms were good. Front desk people were very courteous and asked if I needed more towels or toothpaste etc. (free). Parking lot was small buy we were able to park in the strip mall area next to us. Very well lit and patrolled by hotel security. A/C in room was good. Bathroom shower was good! My window view was of Steak n Shake!?? Oh well... Free breakfast was good, no problems. No fridge in room but they had new Ice machines and I loaded up our cooler. Prices were a little high but not crazy! I would stay here again without a doubt. I give this a A- read more

I was having a few problems and needed a hotel for the night , because my address was within 25 miles from this location I was turned down for a room. It shouldn't matter how far I live or if I have a place at all , things happen and people need rooms sometimes . Very irritated I was told no , even though there were rooms available . luckily the Hampton inn just a little ways down was more than glad to accept my money and give me a place to stay for the night ! We booked here for its price and proximity to CMU, and it was a great choice. 4 stars only because of the small room size and not emptying our garbage cans during room service. Otherwise, it was just right for us. Free parking, good breakfast (Monday morning is so much better and quieter than the weekend), clean bathrooms, Keurig in our room, comfortable beds, and friendly staff. I had reserved a room at this Holiday Inn this past weekend (2 nights: Nov. 18 & 19, 2016), but on the drive towards the Pittsburgh area that afternoon, I had gotten a flat tire in an area several hours away. I called the hotel front desk to let them know that I would not be able to make the reservation due to the extenuating circumstance of my car troubles, but they were not helpful at all besides letting me know that they would not be able to refund my credit card for either night. I am very unhappy with my experience with this hotel's unhelpful, uncaring management, and I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Housekeeping steals. I left a brand new coat in the closet and didn't realize it until I checked out and got all the way home. No one rented the room after me, from what I was told, so my coat should have been turned in to lost and found. When I called back the next morning to follow up, I was treated very badly. The person Shay, that answered the phone, mocked what I said to her when she thought that I had hung up the phone. I heard the entire conversation and how she mocked my tone and seriousness of the matter. I called back to inform them that I heard her and wanted to speak with a manager. Well, the manager Deb, was no better, she cut me off when explaining the situation and didn't bother to follow up until I called back two days later. I called customer care to complain and would like a refund for my coat. I hung it up and forgot it and someone there removed it from the closet and now, of course, they can't locate it. My family stayed from 8/11/13- 8/14/13. Nice hotel in a fairly nice location especially when you consider that we were visiting both Sandcastle and Kennywood and weren't far from either. When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly people and given keys to our room which the maid was still cleaning. So she opened up an adjacent room for us. Secondly the Steak and Shake which is right next door and open 24 hours a day cast a neon glare that shone right into our room and made it more difficult to sleep and the inside see thru shell was the only part of the curtains that could be drawn. Lastly the satellite tv was down most of the time we were there and altho we weren't in the room for large amounts of time it still would have been nice to be able choose from all the stations. Lastly the staff was very helpful and friendly when my wife woke up with Pink eye from the water at Sand castle they directed us to the closest urgi care for treatment read more
