Keurig is trash. Skip the gas station k-cup swill and grab a cup downstairs. It's actually decent, I promise!

Good for the price! This Holiday Inn Express is located at the far end of The Waterfront shopping center. If The Waterfront were a traditional mall, this hotel would be down the side hall in between the travel agent and the tuxedo rental place. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was amicable. Bed was very firm. Bathroom was acceptably clean, but the shower walls didn't pass the fingernail scrape test. This is the first time in years that the free hotel breakfast wasn't a letdown. They had bacon! Who the hell puts out free bacon? Oh, and this "100% smoke free hotel" features hallways and elevator that intermittently reek of marijuana and cigarette smoke. So I guess some guests aren't paying attention to signs.

It's kind of odd to think that this use to be a Popeye's. But let's be honest, it's a nice replacement. However it is on the small side. This place is set up nicely, even if it is on the small side they do use the space to the best of their ability. It may sound odd, but the lobby is in the basement. You have to go down to go in. This floor contains a majority of the amenities that a guest can use during their stay. The pool, business center and dining area for breakfast all are on this level. Rooms take up the second and third floor. The rooms aren't bad, sufficient for a quick stay. With it being on the newer side you really don't notice any wear and tear just yet. Bed was comfortable, shower was adequate, and even though you are near the railroad, you really don't hear it. The view is less than desirable if you are facing the fast food restaurant next door. Staff were amazing and accommodating. I was welcomed quickly when I walked in the door to check in and each time I walked through the lobby I was greeted and made sure that if I needed anything to make sure to let them know. Pricing wasn't bad for a last minute booking either, if i was in a pinch every again about needed a last minute place to stay, I would definitely choose this place again.

The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because their breakfast was good. My husband and I stayed here one night and I would not recommend it. The hotel was not very clean, the bathroom was disgusting and our shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel was completely empty. We notified staff. She came into our room complaining. She didn't have a "key" to unlock the shower gel holder so she said she was sorry but she couldn't provide us with anything because they didn't have extra bottles. The box spring had something all over the side of it which looked gross. Their was hair on our bed before we even sat down on it. The doors slam all night because there are no springs. Heating units are extremely loud. Pictures included. The location was nice and close to a lot of stores and restaurants but my advice is to stay elsewhere.

Some ants coming in thru the window. Bed mattress was cheap; bedding is cheap. You will hear other people in the hallway. Housekeeping will be making a racket. Doors all slam cuz they have no springs. Tasha at the front is NOT nice. Has an attitude. Everyone working seems to be from daaa hood. Mostly caucasians staying but some hoodies there 2. There is a Marriott and Hampton down the road. This place is cheesy. Ok from outside but crap inside.

Nice hotel. I have stayed here when I travel for work probably 15 times already. Staff is nice and helpful. Very clean. So close to restaurants. Uber eats and grub hub deliver to this hotel. Standard free breakfast. Will keep staying here

    Showers were nice!

But their maintenance does not work evenings and they have no one on call. We ended up having to change rooms at 11:00 at night. The hotel also appears to be having water pressure issues. On both mornings of our stay, the water fluctuated significantly while taking a shower. I am a frequent business traveler, and I was disappointed.

On top of that: a clean room, good coffee, privacy, smooth and large elevators, extra toilet paper, free toothbrushes and an unforgettable view of the Monongahela; this Flatbottom felt right at home (or right on vacation ;) haha)! Now, let's get to the meat and potatoes of this review... or should I say the eggs and bacon ;)! If there's one thing that excites me about an overnight hotel excursion, it is undoubtedly the continental breakfast... and boy have I been thinking about this meal since the trip was first conjured up. The aroma of a steaming tray of bacon had my mouth watering the second I stepped out of the elevator and caught a whiff. Once the spread was in view, I was utterly impressed. Scrambled eggs, small boxes of assorted cereal, fruit, muffins and two types of waffle batter with all the fixins'. WOW!!! "Sweeten me up!" I muttered to myself, as the syrup drizzled onto my fluffy waffle atop the chocolate chips and nuts. Yes, this continental left me satisfied, but I didn't stop there, I couldn't help myself! On the way out, I piled some bacon on top of a toasted bagel to-go, as there was a long road trip ahead. The Gene Bean needs his nourishment! On our way back up to the room to pack up, another guest noted my car ride treat and I overheard him to his pal, "Hey that guy has bacon on a bagel!" I was delighted by his enthusiasm and his excitement was shared. A high 5 would have been nice, but his sights were already set on the beautiful breakfast spread. This continental was the icing on the cake of this tremendous visit. In closing, the Hampton Inn provided a comfortable and relaxing stay. Just like Forest Gump said, "Continentals are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get!" and as I say (yes you can quote me on this) "Continentals are what you make of them, so stack that bacon high!"

We travel from NE Ohio to Pittsburgh frequently but this was our first stay at the Holiday Inn Express - Mifflin. Everything was as expected and some expectations were exceeded. Very friendly staff. The elevators arrived quickly. The room was clean and spacious, as were the common areas. The only time a felt a bit cramped was by the low 4th floor ceilings. It snowed overnight and the parking lot was salted in the morning. Saw a few mentions of the coffee being to strong but I thought it was one of the better cups I've had at a hotel. Large buffet style breakfast with three warmer food options as well as cereals, yogurts, breads. They also have a pretty fun pancake machine that kept a few college students very entertained *Pro tip: mix the orange juice with the mango juice. This property is everything you'd expect a Holiday Inn Express to be and I'd say a little more. If you want fancy interiors and valet parking, there are plenty of options in the city. If you want clean, comfortable and affordable with a breakfast you'd pay $18 for at a diner - this is an excellent option.

I had not stayed in…read moreone since I looked for last-minute lodging before a Lost Coast weekender outside of Eureka, CA. Coincidentally, I was in a last-minute lodging situation yet again because I had originally planned a road trip to Jamestown, NY. However, heavy snowfall scared me off, so I decided to stay in Pittsburgh one more night, but hotels closer to the city center were fully booked. I had never heard of West Mifflin, but it didn't turn out to be that onerous a drive from downtown. I noticed several Steeler fans were willing to stay here and do the same drive. The location felt fairly remote, though the popular Kennywood theme park was nearby. I was able to secure only a King Suite for $284. That was more than I wanted to pay, but beggars can't be choosers. It was too cold to sleep in my rental SUV. It did cross my mind. The suite was spacious, just rather spartan (Photos 5-7). I wasn't really in need of two flatscreen TV's for my overnight stay. I did manage to try their underwhelming complimentary breakfast (Photo 8). There were no dining options on the premises, but a five-minute walk took me to a reasonably good Mexican restaurant, Primo's Tacos & Tequila (review: https://yelp.to/fs-RZBdJ9n). The front desk staff was polite. All in all, if you want a suite like mine, it felt overpriced for the less than stellar amenities. There was a valid reason this place was not fully booked. This past weekend (checking in Friday, June 12; checking out Sunday, June 14) was the end. When I checked in, another guest was at the front desk requesting a fan. The person checking me in seemed involved with that, so they didn't seem concerned with filling me in. It turned out, however, that the air-conditioning was broken for the entire hotel. After around a half-hour, I really started to notice the heat and humidity in my room. My wife was arriving later (after a difficult air-travel day), so I went back to the front counter to inquire about the AC. This time, there was one couple checking in with the person I had spoken to. and that couple was given extensive detail about the AC issue. When it was my turn, I noted that I had just checked in and got none of that detail. She told me then that there was no way of knowing when the AC would be fixed, but if it wasn't fixed by 6 p.m., there would be a discount; or, if we chose to leave, there would be no charge. Something, at least. A little while later, the AC kicked on. Excellent! I set the AC as low as possible to cool things off. The AC was actually set to 62 degrees from Friday evening to Sunday morning. Despite that, the coolest it got was 68 degrees on Sunday morning. Midway through the day on Saturday afternoon, it was around 77 as we were trying to get dressed for a wedding. (There were actually two wedding parties staying at the hotel for the weekend, all dealing with poor AC at a supposedly "luxury" hotel). We called back to the front desk about 1 p.m. Saturday, and they expressed shock that our room was not cooler because the AC had been fixed. A few minutes after our call, the room began to cool to a reasonable temp (though, again, never anywhere near the actual temp it was set to). My wife decided the hotel was intentionally turning off the AC to try to save money. I decided that they weren't being intentionally malevolent, but rather they were just inept. Either way, the hotel absolutely failed to live up to what it had once been. We won't be recommending or returning again. Also of note: - The hotel website notes its Spirits and Tales restaurant is open for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. But don't be fooled into thinking that means you can order lunch on Saturday; they only have their brunch menu (which is almost identical to their breakfast menu. The salads and sandwiches on their lunch menu are not available.) That said, at least we could get into the restaurant this time. On a previous stay, we arrived to discover the entire restaurant and bar had been booked by another party, so we had to go elsewhere for a drink. - The hotel's other restaurant, Cork and Crust, is also not open for lunch on Saturday or Sunday. So if you do want lunch on the weekend, don't expect to get it at this hotel. (The pizza I purchased Friday night was fine; I wasn't a big fan of the non-traditional Margherita pizza (with pesto and slices of garlic), but I'm picky about pizza.) - The carpet in our room was fraying. The mini-bar refrigerator was empty. - Apparently, the hotel was used as an overflow space for students from the University of Pittsburgh in recent times. That may explain why things are a little worn. But the idea that I'm paying luxury hotel prices for a glorified dormitory is a little much for me. The one positive is the man working the desk downstairs at the Lower Lobby. He's been there for a number of years, and he always remembers my wife and I (even if it's been a while since we were last there). He's kind, friendly, and helpful. The parking valets are always fast and friendly too, but the main guy at the desk really does an excellent job.
