A gorgeous hotel. Walking in it felt warm and inviting while also looking fancy. When we arrived, we first drove past the entrance because we weren't sure if it was the correct address, plus there was a van pulling out, blocking any cars from getting in. We were a little early for check-in and everyone was so welcoming while we waited. We stayed in a standard queen bed room, which had a fireplace and large closet and bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. We were there for a wedding and the venue coordinator, Zach, did a great job with making sure everything was set up. There was another party going on the evening we stayed the night and you could hear it clearly from our room. Thin walls and floors is the downside of staying in a historical building. read more

Gorgeous hotel you would never expect to see driving down this Pittsburgh street! The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas, which made me feel like I was in a Hallmark movie. I stayed in one of the king bed rooms the night before a wedding and it was a wonderful experience. The room got a little cold at night, so we decided to sleep with the fireplace on. The fireplace in the hotel room was a nice, cozy touch. If you are handicapped, or have trouble with stairs, definitely let the hotel staff know. There is one elevator in the building that only goes to level 2. The venue coordinator for the wedding was also fantastic to work with! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed overnight here because we had a gift certificate for a room and "romance package." We stayed in the Amberson House and the room was comfortable and clean, so the actual stay was good. However, I was not impressed with the level of customer service. The romance package was supposed to include a bottle of wine or 4 pack of beer, a charcuterie board, a dozen roses, and free breakfast. When I booked the room I mentioned the gift certificate and I mentioned it again when I called to confirm the reservation. Both times I was told to just bring the gift certificate with me. When we arrived to check in, I presented the gift certificate to the front desk staff and was immediately told I should have mentioned the package when I booked the room. We did get the wine and charcuterie board but they didn't have the roses available, which was not a huge deal. The next morning, my boyfriend went to pick up our breakfast orders and the staff didn't know they were supposed to be comped. Overall, it was a frustrating experience. This is not an inexpensive hotel so I expected better level of organization and customer service. I checked with the front desk at check out that the amount due had been adjusted to account for our gift certificate, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on my bank statement based on the rest of our experience. read more

The mansions on Fifth are, first of all, gorgeous inside and out. Upon arrival, I was met by a staff member who held the door for me and asked if I required help with any luggage. He then explained some history of the property when I began asking questions about it. I felt very welcomed right away. Check-in was simple and prompt. I stayed in the Amberson house, which is located next to the main building. My room was on the second floor. I could hear some people upstairs during my stay, but it was muffled and not loud at all so I was unbothered. The room has plenty of natural lighting, equipped with all my needs. I felt very safe here. I wish the bathtub had a functional plug so I could have taken a bath, but the shower worked wonderfully so it's not an issue. There is light traffic outside, nothing crazy, so it still felt calm inside. They offered breakfast for $15/person, which I declined. Check-out was also quick and easy. Overall, I would certainly recommend. I hope to return and hear the piano of the main house played sometime. read more

I can't say enough good things. Our room is inviting and warm. It's very large and roomy. It suits two people perfectly. But, people don't know that this hotel serves breakfast and dinner. Oh my! It's so good! Perfect fillet, risotto and asparagus! The rose champagne went perfectly and they gave us a glass to start. This was all done in a very private atmosphere. Dinner was five courses and served by the fire. Then breakfast was just as good. You must try the French toast! There's a heavenly strawberry maple syrup. The whole breakfast cost as much as a Bob Evans breakfast but was the quality of the Ritz! Perfect Valentine's Day! read more

We stayed at the Mansions from 1/13 to 1/17/25.I'm just getting to our review. The staff, especially at the Oak Room Pub, were extra special . We are from SF Bay Area, and not used to the cold. Long story why we came in the middle of January! The servers kept our coffee hot in the morning, especially when they were not open. Their food recommendations were wonderful. Great conversation and so engaging in a relaxed way!! The housekeeping was excellent! People wrote reviews about the "thin walls and noise" but we did not experience this issue. The only issue was the elevator could be " sketchy ". Off the tracks they said but very minor!! We highly recommend the Mansions for their location, staff, and beauty!! I was pleasantly surprised by this small hotel. I liked that it was in a mansion and within walking distance to Phipps Conservatory and the Carnegie museums (both about a 15 minute walk from the hotel). The lobby area is beautifully furnished. Check-in was fast with friendly staff to help with any questions. There is a full bar on site which serves drinks and a few small munchies but no restaurant or room service was available. The bartender was kind enough to give me some help with the local food options. She even went so far as to draw me a small map so I could easily locate the restaurants. (Thanks so much for the extra effort. It was greatly appreciated!) The walk to nearby Shadyside was only about 10 minutes. There were restaurants and bars available plus some shops. The area is safe so I didn't feel uncomfortable walking in late evening. The rooms were clean and modern with standard amenities. I did like that housekeeping service was optional. At check-in, you were asked to chose the type of housekeeping service you would like during your stay. I was only staying in the hotel for two nights so opted out of housekeeping service. My only real complaint was the lack of parking for the hotel. There is off street parking which is good since the hotel sits on a busy street, but the amount of parking is very limited. I only saw eight actual parking spaces. Three of these spaces were not available due to on-site construction. The overflow parking is basically anywhere along the perimeter of the property next to the fence. This is not enough parking for the amount of rooms available. I didn't appreciate having to park in a location where my car could easily by damaged. With the exception of the parking, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would stay again when visiting Pittsburgh. read more

COVID-19 Review. Booking was very simple. We stayed one night for my birthday, and the hotel itself is beautiful! The rooms have fireplaces, high ceilings, and ours even had a clawfoot bathtub. Like any hotel, we were able to hear guests above us, but other than that it was built very well, so we were unable to hear any road traffic (we stayed in the smaller, red mansion). During COVID, there wasn't anything exciting happening in the bar, or lobby. I would love to come back when the hotel has events for guests again. We were able to walk to dinner, this hotel is very close to the heart of Shadyside which is bumping with shops and restaurants. The worst part about our stay, there was no breakfast provided so we had to order grub hub delivery (not really room service, lol) also, we were woken up to the smell of cigarette smoke from the room above us. When I mentioned this to the front desk, they sort of just brushed it off by saying "I thought I smelled smoke this morning." Sort of disappointing, but out of the hotel's control. If you are someone looking for an historic place to stay, within walking distance to some really great restaurants, I would highly recommend Mansions on Fifth. In addition, they also host weddings and parties here. The mansions themselves are not huge, so you could ideally host your whole wedding here, and fill up all of the guest rooms exclusively with your guests. read more

Absolutely beautiful historic feeling location and the staircase on the interior will make for wonderful photos. The space in front of the stair case would make for a lovely dance floor or entertaining space. Very versatile. Things to note: I don't believe there is a restroom on main floor, I had to go down to the basement. Also note that this space might not be the best for a large wedding reception and your guests will have walls between them, separating them...would be lovely for a more intimate affair though. I have stayed here a few times when coming to visit my University of Pittsburgh student. Historically I have stayed in the Amberson House building (next to the main, Fifth Avenue building). I've never had an issue there. This time, my husband just underwent a knee replacement, so we needed access to an elevator. The fifth avenue house has an elevator so I elected to stay there. I was willing to not let the dirty laundry basket of towels and linens which was sitting in the elevator, upon arrival, bother me. However, our evening of sleep is something that should be brought to attention. After arriving back after dinner, our room (1202), was very warm-about 75 degrees. The temperature outside was in the 40's, so it was extremely warm in the room. We turned the thermostat down, but shortly after, a fan came on, which was unacceptably loud. After a long day of travel, we tried to fall asleep and ignore it. However, this was impossible. We ended up hardly sleeping all night and eventually had to try and sleep, with the temperature turned back up, to cease the loud noise of the fan. Needless to say, trying to sleep in the heat, was almost as bad as the extreme noise of the fan. I did mention something about it at checkout, but it did not seem to be something of interest. Unfortunately, I am not sure if I will return, based off this experience. read more

I got married here December 2021. The hotel itself is beautiful. The staff is a complete mess. On the final contract it was agreed that one dining room would have 4 round tables that seated 8 (32 people). The other room would have 2 long tables that would seat 20 people each COMFORTABLY. Wedding day comes, the round tables have 10 seats each and the long tables have 18 seats crammed at each table. Thankfully my bridesmaids went to bat for me and got everyone seated since my seating chart could not be followed. It's not the point that there was room for them. It was the point that I, the bride, was assured over multiple emails (which I still have) that the set up I wanted was possible. And it wasn't. My own decorations that I brought were treated disrespectfully. The morning after I came down to my cookie platters, most of them glass, haphazardly thrown into my totes. My aunt's plastic tupperware that she brought cookies in was shoved in as well and was so warped that we threw it away. Other things of ours were just thrown on the table or also haphazardly thrown in a box, no organization or respect. If I would have known that, I would have done it myself the night of my wedding. My votives were missing that morning. They found them a few days later shoved into a broom closet. The front desk was extremely unprepared and unprofessional. We booked and paid for 6 rooms for ourselves and bridal party. We were assured over email everything was noted. When we got there nothing was noted at the front desk. They made our bridal pay when my now husband and I had already. Eventually everything was refunded back to our party. But this shouldn't have been a problem in the first place when the manager and I had exchanged multiple emails about this. When having your wedding there, no one outside of your party can book a room in the main Mansion. I learned the hard way that other people can book rooms in the neighboring house. When I was about to go down the aisle, people were trying to enter the Mansion to get information at the front desk. I wasn't irritated at the fact that they had other guests staying in the neighboring house. I was irritated that they obviously weren't told that a wedding was being hosted and learned by seeing me about to enter in my wedding dress. Our bridal suite had random paint chips and random splotches of paint that didn't match the rest of the wall. The heating vent is also above the bed. It is so loud it sounds like it's thunder storming. It also sprays dust out on to the bed and curtains under it. It was so bad that I woke up both mornings we stayed with puffy eyes and clogged nose thanks to allergies. Our package was also supposed to includes chocolate covered strawberries and champagne sent to our room after the reception which did not happen. One of the rooms our guest stayed in was so crooked they said they both could feel themselves slipping toward the end of the bed. After everything, my brother-in-law realized he lost his watch. We called the Mansion to keep an eye out for it. They called and said they found it but by the time someone could go out for it the building was closed for filming a show or movie. After that I went in to pick it up and the front desk knew nothing about it. The manager was supposed to call me back but never did. Recently I also found the event coordinator at the time, Alissa, has her own wedding coordinator side business. She posted pictures of my wedding on her business's Facebook page as if I used her personally. I did not. The best, most ironic thing is that the pictures she posted of my wedding were of the parlor. The room that did not have enough seats. Maybe she should have focused on making sure the correct amount of seats were arranged instead of taking pictures for her side business. If you have your wedding here, I recommend seeing if you can hire an outside wedding planner/coordinator. read more

Really scary at first. After you get accustomed with the spooky vibes, you may come to enjoy it. However, there is a very spooky vibe. Very pretty on the outside with hydrangeas, chipmunks, and birds. I wouldn't stay in the red bungalow house! I stayed in the other one (main front entrance). The people are generally nice. The restaurant has nothing to eat, so don't count on it. My room was full of orbs flying everywhere at night, so my sleep was less than pleasant. I stayed in a room with a king bed and a pull out and couch on the top level. The top level had no electricity at all. Lamps plugged in wouldn't turn on, no AC vent, and a refrigerator that doesn't work. It's pretty hot and the AC doesn't work too well below the staircases, but it is something. The bathroom was nice and spacious & the beds were comfortable. Be prepared to pay lots of random fees at the end. I'm not sure why, maybe because it's more of an "inn"? read more

Came here for Sunday Brunch with friends. The mansion is beautiful on the outside and inside. When you walk in the lobby is where the buffet is located. In the center, there are hot and cold foods such as pancakes, french toast, breakfast meats, pasta, chicken, seafood, etc. Then, there is an omelet station and a desert station. I started off with a savory plate first and really enjoyed the gnocchi and chicken croquette. The seafood bake, vegetables, and potatoes were all average. Then, I went back to have a pancake and french toast and some chocolate mouse. The pancake was cold and not soft. The french toast though was very good. It was made with amaretto bread. Overall, I enjoyed the brunch, because I had never been here. However, for the price I do not know if it is worth it. The food is good but nothing extraordinary. read more

I made reservations for brunch this past Sunday only to receive a call that they were not providing brunch on this particular Sunday, only breakfast. Which after reading a few reviews, probably was a good thing! I started with a Bellini that was yummy, and I found out later when I got my bill part of their breakfast cocktail special. +1 I ordered the omelette with truffle oil and drunken goat cheese. Overall it was OK, the truffle oil was not overpowering but to me I would have preferred that it was. :) I forgot to mention that we started our meal with complimentary crab cakes and asparagus +100 the crab cakes were awesome and so was the grilled asparagus! We ended the meal with complimentary chocolate mousse cups! In total we spent almost 3 hours in this beautiful old house and we probably could have stayed longer!! Walking from floor to floor you're treated to beautiful art and amazing architecture that you just really can't find anymore. What a treat and a delight to have in Pittsburgh!! read more

Arrived over 4 hours ago. Set the air conditioner to 5.5 degrees lower than the actual temperature. The temperature has dropped a whopping 0.5 degrees. Management says there is nothing they can do. Also, we are on the third floor but the elevator only goes up to the second floor. And they have no carts to get luggage to the room. read more

My boyfriend surprised me this Valentines weekend with a night's stay at The Mansions. If, like me, you love history and have a strong appreciation for restorations, this is the hotel for you. If, however, you are looking for the most modern of amenities you may not appreciate your stay as much. All of the staff were more than accommodating. Upon our arrival we were greeted by, not one or two, but THREE valets! After checking in, one escorted us to our room. We stayed in 1204... King sized bed, walk in closet, huge bathroom with a walk in shower, rain forest shower head and handheld shower head too! Everything from the painted ceiling to the original stained glass windows made this room charming, cozy, and luxurious. For the most part the room was very clean and there were plenty of towels. One problem we did have was with the hotel boasting about their "luxurious" linens. The comforter, although down and very soft, had multiple stains all over it. The sheets were super soft but had holes in them and the edges of the pillow cases were frayed. The bed itself was extremely comfortable. Since these are original windows and it was the coldest night of the year, you could feel the cold air coming in through the windows. But the staff was one step ahead and already had a space heater set up and running. Traffic could also be heard all night through the windows, but this did not bother us. Technology was not this hotels strong point as our room phone didn't work, the TV worked for 30 minutes Sunday morning before the cable seemingly cut out. BUT my boyfriend and I were not here for technology, we were here to relax and soak in the ambience, which was A plus. When we explored, we found the chapel and beautiful original artwork in every wall. A fire crackled and the soft sound of contemporary piano music from the live pianist filled the lobby. We sat on the chairs on the landing watching couples arrive for dinner and listening to the music. It was so relaxing. You should make note, no refrigerators are provided in room. I saw a footman bringing one to a room, not sure if this is at an additional cost. While we're on a list of things that aren't included, the valet parking is $11. Contrary to the website, coffee and rolls are NOT provided in the morning for guests, which is very disappointing for a 4 star hotel. At least have carafes of coffee in the lobby for guests. My boyfriend asked how much to get it delivered to our room $12 min charge. He then asked if he could just get one cup and was charged $4. There are also no ice machines on the premises. Overall we had an extremely pleasant stay, it is just the small details that need a little more work and this place would be exceptional! If you're looking to be transported back into time and have a relaxing, romantic evening this is the place! Give your 4 star guests more amenities for the price!!! read more

Spent the night here after finding a great last minute deal on expedia. It was wonderful. To start, the service we were given in the evening by Charles and Deron was perfect. They graciously took care of our needs, including pulling our car up to our door in the pouring rain and carrying umbrellas for us. We couldn't have asked for more polite, professional and kind service. Our room was beautiful. It didn't feel like a hotel at all. More like a guest room in someone's home. Breakfast in the morning was very good. Our only complaint is that 2 of the 3 pastries were stale. But the coffee was French press, smooth and delicious. We left the table full. I am writing a review of Mansions as a music venue. This is a unique location to dine and listen to live music. Because it's a small hotel, the staff is very attentive to the smallest needs and is very willing to help. It's fun just to look around the place. The acoustics are wonderful for live music, there's a lot of beautiful woodwork, and so the sound is live and warm. I have eaten at the brunch and the food was wonderful, lots of choices from a buffet, and top quality and well prepared food. Definitely worth visiting. I will come back often. read more

I attended a wedding here. Setting is nice. The vegetarian dish was very good. The filet and chicken were mediocre at best. What really made the experience second rate was the service. I have never seen a drier group of people in my life. The two bar tenders were as unfriendly as can be. The floor manager was miserable. And the timing was atrocious. With the exception of one very nice waitress, the entire lot needs to be retrained at an Eat n' Park before they are aloud to practice on live customers at a place like this. There were a lot of little things that got to me on this trip - the shower curtain gets stuck on the rod, window insulation is so poor that the heat is constantly on making my skin and eyes dry, and the soaps are cheap. There are two houses; the smaller of the two which is where I was is less glamorous and you have to walk through the cold to get to the main lobby for breakfast, etc. The second house is also very quiet and lonesome. There is really no where you can walk to from this hotel. You would definitely need a car or a taxi to get where u need to go. read more

We booked our rehearsal dinner OVER A YEAR in advance. TWO MONTHS prior to our event, the Mansions had notified us that they had booked a wedding on the same day. We were told that we would be moved to an alternative location (out of the main building to the red brick building across the parking lot). They had blamed the miscommunication on an employee that no longer works there. However, when we contacted this employee via her cell phone, she notified us that this was not the case. (They were trying to "double-dip" to get as much business as possible.) This is completely unacceptable! My future in-laws made an arrangement to meet with the Mansions on Fifth and they viewed the alternate location. The facility was unappealing and not what they expected. When they expressed their displeasure, the Mansions on Fifth suggested the following: we move the rehearsal to 1 PM on Friday (not possible), we host a brunch on the Sunday after the wedding at the Mansions (we already booked our brunch through our wedding venue--The Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel), a night's stay for my fiancé and I and my future in-laws (we live 10 minutes from the Mansions on Fifth and are not interested--especially after this poor experience). Since we have declined all of their suggestions and have requested a refund, the Mansions has stopped returning our phone calls. When we contact them, employees are told they have been instructed not to talk to us about the situation. In addition, we have yet to receive our deposit back. I would highly suggest you think twice before booking this venue! The way they have handled this situation has been completely unprofessional. If you look closely I'm pretty sure you can spot the ghosts of Frick, Mellon and Carnegie wondering these halls. That's the kind of vibe MoF emanates. Unfortunately, it also exudes the somberness of an era gone by. We attended brunch at MoF for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. At $20, it seemed to be a solid deal; but to be honest, I'd prefer the $15 buffet at Shiloh (including a frozen mimosa) any day of the week. While it's a lovely dining area, the service is lacking in attentiveness and warmth, and the food is decent though nothing special. The regular brunch price is in the ballpark of $38 (or so I overheard), and I would never pay that amount for what you get. I wanted to love it here, but given Pittsburgh's thriving brunch scene, this one is best left filed away in the history books. read more

The new owners have done a fabulous job of restoring the homes to their original grandeur while adding modern touches (think high-end cozy bedding and Restoration Hardware like bathrooms). There are several sizes of rooms for overnight guests including a honeymoon suite. There are also a range of rental space options: wine cellar, intimate chapel, parlor and dining areas to name a few. I booked a reservation for the upcoming Valentine's Day weekend (Saturday) through OpenTable. I just received a phone call from someone at the restaurant informing me that they are "reaching capacity" and, if I wanted to ensure I would get a table (for which I had already made a reservation), I would have to provide my credit card information over the phone. I was informed that, if I chose not to provide my credit card info, they would give my table (for which I had already made a reservation), to someone who had agreed to provide their credit card info if the restaurant ends up being overbooked on Saturday. This is the most ridiculous, boneheaded policy I've ever encountered. I made a reservation for Valentine's Day weekend, they took my reservation, then called me two days later to tell me that my table would likely be given to someone else if I refused to provide my card info. Now I have to try to find another restaurant on one of the busiest nights of the year. I'd suggest anyone considering making a reservation at this place think twice before doing so. I'll be reaching out to OpenTable to make them aware of this situation as well. read more

The decor is beautiful and the staff is incredibly friendly tho our waiter seemed aloof but there were five of us and we all each independently were wondering what we just paid $38 per person for (does not include tip so you're looking at $50 with tip)... The price tag definitely has an ouch factor. For brunch, there is buffet and comes with coffee - juice is not included in the price. We had to constantly keep asking for coffee refills. In terms of spread, there was a fruit bowl, yogurt/cottage cheese, pancakes, bacon, cured meat and cheese plates, smoked salmon along with fixings like capers, onions, tomatoes, zucchini, risotto, fish of the day, quiche, salads and some pastries/breads. Then there was a dessert table along with a steak and omelette station. The quality of the food did not match the price - it was filling and fine but not great. The Sunday breakfast buffet was not worth the price. I went for the first time this past weekend with a group. There was an OK variety of items but I wasn't blown away by the number of choices. The crepe and item that looked like a quiche on the website were nowhere to be found on the buffet. Likewise the out of date menu on the website mentioned scones and biscotti, but sadly they were not on the buffet. The dessert choices were nothing very exciting, cheese selection limited and fruit was never refreshed during the two hours we were there. My husband had a coffee and an orange juice. I also had an orange juice and didn't care for the taste. I think the orange juice was an extra charge since our bill was over $38 per person, although we did not get an itemized bill so I can't be sure. Our server was new and had a hard time with the checks. It took forever to ring everyone out and there were some mishaps with a couple of checks. I really enjoyed my stay at Mansions on Fifth. I am in Pittsburgh this week for some career fair recruiting. In the past, we have stayed at the Hampton Inn here in PGH, and this is a huge step up. +plush white towels +great showers +great shower items +my room 2203 was quite large and had a nice view +common area to interact with my co worker that was not in our room +free wi fi +free breakfast +friendly staff +fitness room +bar downstairs (didn't use, but looked nice and played classical music) +nice TVs +Nice furniture +Brownie waiting for me when I came home after maid service! I really enjoyed my stay here, and would recommend this place as a great place, close to CMU for recruiting or a weekend away with your SO. read more

The Mansions on Fifth hosted our wedding on Saturday, 2/11/2023. I genuinely could not have imagined the wedding going off any more perfectly or in a more perfect venue. From the very beginning Adam (Hotel) and Zach (Events) were attentive, understanding, and always kept in communication. I never felt like it was hard to get ahold of them or that I was a bother. Adam helped to organize the room block and explain how it works in depth - even when I continued to have questions! He took to the time to take phone calls when I needed it and did his best to walk me through the steps necessary to best prepare for the guests for our wedding. Zach, in charge of the events, was more helpful that I could have asked for. When we had issues with the bakery - Zach was there to help. When we had questions about how to run a wedding, he was there. Zach always communicated changes and needs - and helped make decisions with my preferences in mind. During the wedding day - Zach made sure to bring me my favorite (and only drink I could have) when I ask throughout the day - and even when I didn't ask! They even made sure to set aside enough of the alcohol needed to make sure that the guests didn't use it and make it so that I could still get my drink throughout the night. Zach (and Gabby!) made sure that the entire day went off without a hitch. I couldn't have imagined this day without them. For anyone inquiring about Mansions on Fifth - I cannot recommend them enough. They are absolutely fabulous and I couldn't be happier with our decision to have our big day there. read more

Amazing décor inside and a fantastic brunch on Sunday's. Even though they were a bit busy for breakfast, the waiter could have still poured our coffee instead of just placing it on the table. Service was slow. Could have done without the college students in booty shorts and others in flip-flops shuffling around like it was their living room...especially for such a wonderful location. A somewhat moderate dress code should be considered... Otherwise a fantastic location. read more

Recently stayed at Mansions on 5th during a quick family trip to Pittsbugh. There isnt any sort of outdoor signs for the property that I noticed but it is on the corner of 5th and Amberson (I believe). Great lobby. Great bar with a good selection. Decent continental breakfast (killer scones) and french press coffee. Loved our room (1304). very spacious, great bathroom and shower. Only downside is the stairs...but it is an old mansion so take that for what its worth. read more

This review is only for the food. For Pittsburgh Restaurant Week 2016, they have a prix fixe menu for dinner (according to the server, they normally do not have a full menu, which could explain our experience with the food). Two of my friends and I decided to check it out because we pass by it all the time and it looks like a lovely place. The inside is a lovely place, but the food is terrible. Since there were three of us, we ordered one of each of the appetizers being offered. The tortellini and sausage dish was cold tortellini, a slice of sausage, a chunk of mozzarella, and a chunk of tomato on a skewer that had tomato sauce haphazardly thrown on. The beet tartare consisted of small beet pieces that were inconsistently cooked and a slice of mozzarella on top. The menu said "flaming beet tartare," I'm not sure where the flaming part went. The shrimp cocktail was pretty typical shrimp cocktail. They forgot to give us our soup/salad, so we had the entree first. I got the beef tenderloin, which was actually pretty good. However, my friend's beef tenderloin, which she ordered to also be medium was more well done and a bit tough. There was an obvious difference in how long our steaks were cooked, even though we both ordered them to be cooked medium. The lobster ravioli, flavor wise was ok, but it was cold and the sauce was oddly on the side and not that good. I got the Bibb salad with almond crusted brie and raspberries. The lettuce was soggy and it was basically a slice of almond crusted brie put on top of the limp lettuce with three raspberries on the side. Dessert was edible, but not that great. The lemon meringue was ok. They said the chocolate arlettes were served with chocolate mousse, but the mousse we had looked more like a chocolate oatmeal paste. Taste was fine, but it didn't look like what I had in mind. The coffee creme brûlée tasted good inside, but didn't have that nice hard caramel on the top to crack. It was just a mushy top. Overall, it just felt like an amateur chef without much creativity or passion made the dishes and didn't care too much about the quality of the food or the presentation of the food. I think our expectations were just much higher for a place like Mansions on Fifth and because of the price point at which the prix fixe dinner was set ($35.16/person without tax/tip). For Pittsburgh Restaurant Week, I would recommend going elsewhere. read more

This review is for the Easter brunch. This brunch was small but diverse. There was an omelet station, eggs, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, home fries, crab cakes, salmon, another fish I can't recall, filet mignonette, lamb, ham, salads, fruit, little appetizers, and desserts. We enjoyed a little of everything and everything was superb. The desserts were tiny which was cute and fine because after eating brunch, who can finish a huge piece of pie. My daughters, ages 9 and 10, enjoyed the brunch as well. My only wish is that there would have been a potato or rice dish for the meat. Overall, I would definitely do it again. read more

I'm writing this review for the brunch only. We visited Mansions on Fifth for Sunday brunch during Summer Restaurant Week. We were greeted at the door by the valet staff and welcome by the gracious hostess. In fact, she gave us a quick tour and some history and was joking with my son about a "ghost" playing the piano :) Our server was a bit slow but very friendly. I was initially worried about bringing our 4-year-old son and our friend's toddler; however, there are plenty of options for the kids and adults. There was an omelet and ham station; salad, antipasto, cold items; lamb, cornish hen, other hot meats; bacon, sausage, quinoa pancakes; yogurt, fruit, and nuts station; bagels, bread, jam, pastries; and, desserts, cookies, and other sweets. Everything was fresh and delicious. I'm not sure of the real price for brunch -- we paid $20.16/person for PRW -- but the experience and food together make this a unique brunch spot for Pittsburghers and/or visitors. I would love to return for the cocktail hour or even to stay the night for a romantic staycation. read more

Very beautiful and well worth the money. Booked a room here on the second floor over a weekend and it was gorgeous. The rooms were clean and well kept. The mansions were historic but had plenty of modern amenities. The staff was very pleasant an the European breakfast was delicious. read more
