Good points are comfy bed, duvet not blanket, hot showers/clean towels/body wash, front door is open all night. Bad points, no hairdryers, no lift, 5 mins drive out of town. My top tip is to insist on a room at the back so you dont get the noise of the lorries on the motorway, you can park round the back too, if you can book early then you can get a good deal maybe £20 a night, otherwise its £50, make sure you have about £15 for a cab home from Newbury Town centre, oh and bring your own hairdryer.

Bed was comfy, TV with freeview/extra channels too. Health club with swimming pool but didn't have time to check out. This is a Holiday Inn so a chain but it was clean, tidy, provided a good breakfast so happy to give 4*. Breakfast if not included in your deal, is £8.95 if bought voucher in advance from reception. Continental, cereals and full cooked breakfast is available, plus there is a pancake station. Kids eat free. Lots of freshly cooked items available and I was able to get gluten free toast in the morning so I was happy at that. Starbucks coffee stand also there too, plus a bar so a pint is about £4, pepsi is £1.90 a bottle. Taxi into Reading is about £10 from the hotel as not much near the hotel. So, yep, had a decent stay and would be happy to book again. Worth checking HI website as double room was about £60 per night during the weekend, though I think during the week stays are pricier!

This property was not my original Reading reservation. Without berating another property just a few blocks away, suffice it to say when I called from the other place that I was dissatisfied with and was going to leave after being in my room there for a matter of minutes after a day that started at 4am in another country, the Forbury came through. At the last minute on a night when there was an event in the facility, Hannah found me a wonderful room, and was the most pleasant and helpful professional I've experienced in a long while. They were booked solid, and she took things to a level of service that one could easily consider legendary. The hotel itself is already well known, we'll documented, and is of course wonderfully well appointed. The rooms in the variations I have experienced this trip are warmly decorated and fitted with class and comfort, but the heated wood floors were especially perfect during the cold front that just blew through and left a bit of snow... But the service... THAT is what brings me back and leads me to evangelize businesses, and employees like Hannah are what truly make good businesses great. The Forbury is great.

It's the kind of place that England does so well, although one slightly mourns the passing of the world that created such heavenly places.
