This is a difficult review because ultimately the manager was very nice. But this hotel willingly rented me a room knowing there is no hot water in the hotel. Apparently the desk clerk was supposed to hand me a note when I checked in informing me that the hotel has no hot water. Instead they only have a lukewarm water similar in temperature to something you might wash your hands with in a public bathroom. I measured the temperature of the water and it was 89 degrees. I also measured the swimming pool water temperature and it was only a few degrees cooler. I spent more than 75 minutes on the phone with customer service at IHG corporate. The Philippines call center provided no help. They called the hotel, spoke to the front desk clerk who was not qualified to make any decisions, then told me I must wait for the hotel manager to come out of a meeting. Finally they agreed to canceled my remaining reserve nights at no charge but planned to charge me $160 for the night with no hot water and threaten to charge another $160 if I was not able to check out by 2:00 p.m. it's important to note, I had a full four night stay planned so I did not have anything prepared to check out in the middle of the afternoon. In fact I was supposed to be at work. Deplorable service from the Philippines call center that identified themself as customer care aside, the hotel manager was eventually very nice and refunded my stay, but only after almost 2 hours of arguing with the front desk clerk and the telephone customer care folks. The real problem here, the hotel remains open despite not being able to provide hot water for their guests. The problem is so systemic they've produced notes that they hand out at the front desk informing guests that there is no hot water in the hotel. This is a problem, as explained by the hotel management, this time of year. The outside air temperature is 17° f. If I've been given this note on check-in I simply would have refused to check in. Why would you check into a hotel without side air temperature at 17° f when there's no hot water in the room. IHG has many hotels in their chain that are very nice, but they also have many that should be closed. If this hotel has no hot water, that means there's no hot water for kitchen staff to wash their hands, no hot water in which to sanitize dishes, and worse of all no hot water for guests paying $160 per night. read more

Kudos to the maintenance guys, Jeff and James. They took care of a number of issues where we set up on conference and also fixed a problem with my room faucet. Fast, friendly and efficient. Mandy also was awesome and helped us with our conference room a lot!! Even came in early to help. And I have to acknowledge elderly waitress who helped us get breakfast in time to get to the airport (I am sorry I forgot her name). I have been a HI member for years and years and about a year ago I started going to another chain because it seemed HI was not as responsive to a request or I often asked to change my room because there was something wrong with it or it was just one with a poor view or no view at all. This trip fell into that frustrating category. Every morning the Buffet breakfast is supposed to open at 6:30 AM but during the week we were there it would be 10-15 minutes late or even later. On Friday, the day we checked out and I had to get to the airport, we waited 20 minutes for the buffet to come out and it did not. The kind waitress knew I was concerned because I had to get too the airport. She apologized for the delay and suggested we order off the menu since it would be faster, which we did and it helped us get to the airport as scheduled. Also I here as part of a group of 4 trainers doing a class on site and had done the same class last year here. After checking in the manager texted me to ask if all was OK. I responded by text and asked why we did not have breakfast coupons like we had the year before when we did the training here. She responded by text to tell me we did not have the right reservation for that option. I politely pointed out that one of the trainers did get the "free breakfast" and all reservations were made by the same admin person. Crickets, no response. This is not a big deal but I certainly consider things like this l when I am deciding whether to book at HI or some other comparable hotel read more

Nice hotel on the beach with really great spacious rooms, at least ours was for sure. We had the beachside view, so great view from the balcony. Very welcoming and engaged staff that helped to also make the stay comfortable. Food from the Hemingway restaurant on site was pretty good overall on what we enjoyed. The beer selection was okay, they only had 5 beers on tap but all were craft brews which was nice. They did have domestics as well as they were all bottled. But, you could also buy some at the front desk if the bar was closed which was nice to have for grabbing some to take to the room. Enjoyed my first night at HI. Parking I was fortunate that I someone that was heading to their car and took their spot. I suggest as you unload keep an eye out for ppl leaving. She instantly suggested the Steak Cheese, flatbread pizza, and something else. I loved my cheesesteak sub! The sub was so soft and the entire sub had prime ingredients. You can tell good menus when there is only a few good options for each dish. We also had the nachos with shrimp. That's a meal on its own. My son has good pizza and fries. They were great. Came here for the 4th of July weekend. I had no idea how big of a deal that was in VA Beach. Super crowded. The hotel was centrally located and has free valet parking. The cleaning service was sub par - they don't clean, they only change the sheets and empty the trash. I know they are trying to economize but if you are paying full service prices then they should provide full service. The hall way gets very hot. On the good side the hotel is well located on the boardwalk with easy access to the beach. Every room has a balcony facing the beach. And we were able to see the fireworks directly from our room which was fantastic. They do have a restaurant and other amenities. Overall I give this a 3.5 out 5 review. read more

Weekend getaway for my birthday, the location is great. There are multiple attractions within a blocks radius, haunted house, arcade, Dairy Queen. Because it was a speciial occasion, we booked a studio suite, it was very spacious. I wasn't sure what to expect with that, there was a large island with two bar chairs. There was a sink in the island, and a mini Keurig on top. In the island, there was a microwave oven, a mini fridge freezer, and some empty cabinet space. Directly behind the island, was space and hangers for clothes, no accordian door, which would have been a nice touch. We had a king size bed, and there were 2 club chairs and a pullout sofa. The bed was horribly uncomfortable. For such a huge room, the bathroom was super tiny. And the TV was tiny. We really didn't watch any TV but had we wanted to, the TV was just too small. As a platinum IHG® Rewards Club member, "Platinum Elite" there seemed no emphasis on that status, not a big deal. IHG® Rewards is running a promo for extra points by using "tap to pay," but that wasn't working on their system, so lost out on that. The on site parking lot is very tight and does not accommodate all guests vehicles, there is another lot behind the building across the street, and there was complementary valet parking. We really enjoyed the stay, but it wasn't without flaws. We found a feather in the room on the floor near the bed and end table. There was some gunk on the bathroom wall near the trashcan. Trash accumulated outside the elevator doors on our floor, without being picked up all weekend. The thin layer of window curtain could use washing, and the shower curtain also was showing wear. We didn't utilize the indoor pool or on-premisis restaurant. There was a national cheerleading event in VA Beach so there were A LOT of kids everywhere. There were also some adults, older than us, really partying it up on our floor and having a good time. Overall we enjoyed our stay but they had to have known it was going to be a busy weekend and should have had better housekeeping detail. read more

Perfect hotel for the weekend getaway. We booked our room on the IHG app for Saturday night but ended up extending our stay because we enjoyed it so much. Front desk representative, Cain, helped us check in. The service was 10/10. Everyone was super friendly and informative. We had to use their bottle opener a few times and got tooth paste from the front, everyone was really nice. We ended up eating at the restaurant that was downstairs twice. The food was pretty good. We got a Philly cheesesteak 9/10 and chicken and shrimp dish with a side of Mac and cheese 8/10. The ambience was calm. There were kids there but no one was running around screaming. Everything was very clean being that it is open to the ocean and sand. They do a great job with keeping it clean throughout the day. Our room was so cozy. It was a great size for two people. Everything was up to date and had a balcony open to the ocean. We had one king sized bed but I'm sure they have bigger rooms if needed. We got complimentary valet, and the fellas that were working that department were pleasant and quick. When checking out, we left very early in the morning (4:30) and Heather helped us out by getting us the key to the car due to valet reps not being there yet. She was very friendly. Gave us complimentary drinks for the road. We will definitely be visiting this hotel again! I stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago and it was 'meh'. The hotel was dated, a little dirty and the staff was hit or miss with attitude. Well, I stayed last weekend and let me tell you it is FABULOUS!!! The hotel has been renovated (parts still were as the laundry for guests use was being done at another local hotel while theirs was being renovated). The room was beautiful and the staff was so professional, making sure to check if we needed something. We lucked out as we were able to get into our room early (thank you very much!) and had a relaxing stay. Their breakfast is amazing; everything tasted great and being able to bring a take out box back up to our room was so convenient. Was extremely happy with our stay and will be back. read more

I think I have found my Virginia Beach hotel. I try to come to Virginia Beach once a year. Ive stayed at many hotels on Atlantic because I require an oceanfront room and a non-motel feel. Here's what I love about the Holiday Inn VA Beach: * All the rooms are oceanfront with balconies * The rooms are renovated and modern * The rooms have a microwave and refrigerator * There are no resort fees * Parking is included * Housekeeping is by request When I walked in the lobby, I saw the ocean. Immediately I felt my stress decrease and my shoulders relaxed. Lee checked me in. She saw the weariness on my face from driving 5 hours and committed to getting me registered expeditiously. She was the smiling face that I needed. After checking me in, Lee asked if I was a IHG member. I asked her what that was and she gave be the abridge version. I told her that I was interested but really needed to sleep. She was kind enough to register my IHG account on my behalf. Things that weren't appealing: * The elevators are janky, but they will get you to your room. I only took the elevators up; I walked down the stairs each time. The hotel doesnt have their inspection certificate in the elevators. There is a sign in the elevator that says to see the front desk if we want to view the inspection certificate. That doesn't sit well with me. Overall, in the 4 nights that I was here, I did not have a problem with parking, no problems with noise levels, immediate access to staff, and a very comfortable night stay. read more

Trash wasn't emptied in the kitchen and toilet paper not changed out. No TV guide and the volume is locked on the tv so it's hard to hear. Light switch in the bathroom broken. Location location location! The hotel itself and rooms are outdated but the location makes it worth it all! It's right on the ocean and a quick walk to restaurants and stores. The staff is really nice and the coffee in the lobby is great. The parking sucks, if you don't get here early enough then you'll have to park in the overflow lot which is a block away. The luggage carts (yes I know it's silly to comment on these but when you've got tons of luggage they're a major deal) they are a little small and really should be a little bigger, especially when this is considered a family summer destination. The AC in the room is noisy but works beautifully. It would be nice to have a little table out on the balcony with the chairs so one can have a late night pizza or a morning cup of coffee enjoying the ocean. read more

Virginia Beach (as a city) has made so many modifications to be accessible to wheelchair users. Unfortunately, accessibility at this hotel is such a disaster that it really destroys the experience. If you need any mobility-related accommodations, this is not the place to stay. I use a wheelchair and booked an accessible room. I even called to verify everything specifically by phone after making the reservation online. We arrived to find the bathroom door too narrow to enter with my average-sized wheelchair. We were given another room. Here, I could enter the bathroom but there was no shower chair or attached bench. Also, we now had no balcony and the bushes were so tall that it defeated the purpose of paying for an ocean view room. Rather than apologize or try to work on a solution, the front desk worker tried to tell me how her disabled relative could make it work. We had an engagement and couldn't continue to argue with them over it so we regrettably accepted the room. When we returned - late at night - I discovered I could not even get in the bed as it was unreasonably elevated. We called the front desk to see what we could do about the bed and shower. They showed us a room that would work but it's a "suite" - which essentially meant the setup was identical but the hallway was wider. So, the choices were to either stay in an inaccessible room OR pay more for a suite?! I suspect this accessibility "upgrade" was planned all along which is so disappointing. Many hours later, when that shift ended, we were given an option to upgrade into that room without the $18/night fee for the suite. Great, but we were told we needed to move ASAP and trying to move immediately with an infant was incredibly stressful and did not work out. We ended up speaking to the manager who had really no solutions for us. It's as if these people are trained to just listen to complaints and do nothing at all to resolve them. We finally did get an actual wheelchair accessible room but it took 22 hours (during which time we weren't able to enjoy our vacation.) Once we had the new room, the choices for air conditioning were either full blast (freezing) or off, and the room just reeked of mildew. Of course, at least it was finally accessible so we just tried to work with it. Sadly, even getting extra blankets was a hassle as the front desk wouldn't answer the phone and we had to get dressed and go down to get them. (This wouldn't have even been noteworthy if it hadn't been for everything else.) I inquired at the front desk to confirm that the pool lift worked so we could at least enjoy that feature. The ADA requires this but the lift was covered with a tarp so I was skeptical. They said it did work and we changed and went down just to discover from maintenance that not only did it not work but that it hasn't worked for over a month due to a dead battery. Holiday Inn's corporate customer service line told us the manager would call to apologize but that call never happened wither. Overall, I would discourage anyone with a disability from ever staying here! The hotel is in a convenient location and the restaurant was nice but wheelchair accessibility is just an afterthought for them. My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for Labor Day weekend. The best part about it is that every room has an ocean view! We were on the 8th floor and every day would watch the sunrise, people on the beach or boardwalk below, and some crazy storms in the ocean at night. If you can, try to request a higher floor because the view from the balcony is better. The hotel is also very conveniently located on the beach and in an area where there aren't as many people (I liked this because I hate a crowded beach). We were also able to walk up and down Atlantic ave and rarely needed a car unless we went somewhere far. Our room was perfectly cleaned everyday and the staff was also very helpful and pleasant. There's also very cheap breakfast served in the hotel every morning. My only complaint for this hotel is that our air conditioner was so loud and annoying to keep on. I would get up every 10 or so minutes to turn it on and off because I couldn't stand the noise. Our TV also kept cutting out when we would try to watch TV and the staff was unable to fix it (I think it was a cable provider issue). read more

Stayed here 21 October through 25 October. It's a holiday Inn, so room was nice. This review is about their morning breakfast. Goes from 6:30-10:00am during the week. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, it opened 6:35 or later. For someone who has to work each morning at 7:30, I need every minute I can get. There were always 2-3 other people also waiting past 6:30 to see someone working. If you're not going to open at 6:30, change your time. I've worked in food service for a year and worked at a fitness center where you had to open at 5:00am. Always opened early. On Tuesday, after waiting 10 minutes, staff just announced to the half dozen people in line that the cook wasn't there and they didn't know when they'd be coming in. Tight. Picture attached shows bill I got Friday. I paid $2 for a carton of milk that would have cost tops 50 cents out of a vending machine? Also, today was only day I got bill. Other three days i paid for breakfast, I just gave my DoD coupon and was good. Ordered the exact same thing, to go, all four mornings I got breakfast. Is there consistency? Do you pay different amounts depending on who you get as a server? That's bad business. I'll happily pay for timely service, good customer relations, consistency, professionalism. Didn't get that. Take some pride in your work. Side note, had change I left in my suitcase get stolen Wednesday when I was at work. Don't really care because I don't expect room cleaners to be outstanding integrity upkeepers and it was only $4.50 in change, and another person here also in my TAD class got his credit card stolen Tuesday night. Check in: Valet was helpful-main parking lot was crowed(which id expected). The lobby was clean. The staff was very friendly and quick! Upon entry to the room on 10th floor, the set up was nice, clean but had a terrible oder and the tub facet was a little loose. I turned the AC on and opened the balcony in hopes that by the time I got back from getting my bags from the car it would've helped with the smell. Went to the front desk to let her know of the problem just to say that I would let her know once I returned if the smell was still there after leaving the AC on. The lady at the desk immediately offered to chnge my rm and gave me a few vouchers for my kids to eat free. Inside second room now on 11th floor:Room was clean, no oder but I could not enjoy the view from inside the room with the balcony door closed as the door was extremely foggy-but no biggy, I enjoyed sitting on the balcony much more. This room also had a loose facet fixture. Other then that the room was good! The pool:The pool looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in some time, the chlorine smell was extremely strong. Restaurant/Bar:Food was typical, no WOW factor. Breakfast was good-the bacon was super salty. Our waiter wasn't friendly, it was almost as if she didn't want to be bothered. So we were in VA,Beach for my husband and son's birthday trip was great, I gave 3stars because of the front staff other wise would've given more. This hotel had so-so reviews when I chose it for our quick weekend away at VA Beach, but it ticked off all the boxes: nice indoor pool, restaurant/bar onsite, ocean front with balcony - on the boardwalk. It exceeded our expectations! Staff was great, room was bright and clean - plenty of parking (yes, it's the beginning of the off season). Previous reviews were skeptical about the off site parking, once lot it full - but it's literally a block away and not a big deal. Me and my family enjoyed our stay here. All rooms are ocean front and each room seems decent and clean. The hotel itself is clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The place is huge, they have 2 parking areas. We never had a problem with parking 2 cars. They offer toys and beach blanket for the beach.. The hotel offers free dinning to kids at anytime.. Which I find it excellent! Adults are also given 2 free breakfast from the buffet or order it from the kitchen/ from the restaurant. The food is good. A place I would come back to again. The place is near to almost anywhere. The only thing from the balcony we smelled weed coming from the next balcony of the next door... and this place is a friendly place for Family and kids. read more

Checked in today using my HI Rewards Points. After I left the elevator on. my floor headed to my room the entire hallway smelled like marijuana bong water. I headed into my room and got another olfactory surprise - IT smelled like an overdose of Lysol. Thought I needed to go to rehab for huffing the stuff. So strong it bothered my lungs. Toxic. Then I asked for another room and front desk person came up with the key and admitted they had some real partiers at the hotel this weekend. Great. Same thing on the new floor not as bad but room smell from the deodorizing was even worse. Then I called downstairs and told them I was going to check out. Then after several calls to Holiday Inn Rewards 1-800 a Customer Relations person came on and they thought I wanted a new room. No I wanted a Holiday Inn or affiliate that didn't use toxic air freshener. No call back from Holiday Inn to follow up so will stay with Hilton in the future and won't look back. Nasty place. Very, very pleased with my stay here. Booked one night as I was staying in town for business at the convention center, and wound up staying for two. Cancelled my hotel elsewhere because I liked this one so much. I should mention I was here in off-season, around mid-November. Hotel was super cheap - $94/night. They upgraded me to a really nice King Suite. The view was amazing (see picture!). Bed was comfy. Plenty of outlets. Two complaints - the internet did not work at all on my first day there. Sort of an inconvenience because I was traveling for work - but not so big a deal that I mentioned it to anyone. The second day it worked fine. And also the coffee "bar" in the lobby. Served all day - but I'm sure it was the same pot. Also - I've never seen a hotel that didn't offer tea. I just feel like it's not that much work - they could have spruced it up a little - have different options and hot water with tea bags! Danielle at the front desk was a sweetheart! We chatted for quite a while on the day I checked in - she gave me some great recommendations for places for food and to grab a beer one night. The hotel can use some updates for sure, but it is right on the boardwalk. The beauty of the ocean makes you look passed the imperfections of the room. This is a tourist area, so there are plenty of places to walk for food, entertainment, and fun. The parking is horrible though & the bed is extremely firm. There is an indoor pool and restaurant downstairs. Overall, I would come back if I needed to stay at the Oceanfront for sure. It wasn't the worse hotel I have ever visited. read more

We stayed here 5 nights and 6 days and 2 different rooms for 2 families. Everything was decent but I had few concerns with the cleanliness of the place. 1) indoor pool was great! It kept us cool and entertained when it was too hot to be at the beach. And too dark to be in the water at night because the pool opened until 11pm. 2) they don't have complimentary breakfast but they do have the Hemingway restaurant downstairs that serves breakfast buffet from 7-10am on weekdays. 3) front desk staff was nice and accommodating. They got the two rooms on the same floor which was nice. 4) rooms were oceanfront so it was nice to listen to the waves and drink beer at nights. Then we got to enjoy fireworks right from our balcony. 5) we requested crib but they didn't have crib sheet so they instead just put a big bedsheet which was too loose. It could've been suffocation danger to our baby! Good thing we brought our own sheet just in case and we were grateful. 6) my pretoddler found all kinds of trash from under the couch seat which was left from previous guest which means the room hasn't been cleaned 100%! When we checked in, there was no bag in the trash in the main room. We spread our bed covers all on the grounds as we didn't trust the cleanliness of our room. 7) the curtains... the door... agh! It was so annoying how the curtains didn't keep all the lights out!!! The door had a gap on the bottom which let lot of light and NOISE from the hallway. We had to put pillows everywhere to keep the curtain in certain place to block the lights. 8) overall, we enjoyed our stay. Walks right off to the beach and convenience. Location location location. But I think they should really improve on maintenance and housekeeping. read more

We are locals and ran up to Hemingway's for a great dinner nearby with a view. The summer beet salad was excellent and my son's fish and chips was amazing too! The service was top notch and our server, Tiffany, was so kind and attentive. I made sure to let the manager know! (The bananas foster cheesecake wasn't so bad either! ) read more

Had a nice stay for the weekend with family. Be friends. Check in was easy and staff was friendly and helpful. Valet parking staff were courteous as well. The room was clean and quiet. We came here for a reunion. The hotel itself is a little older but has been kept up very well. Breakfast was good and my only complaint is the parking. It looks like they are building a new facility just a few blocks north of this location. The staff was professional and courteous. I will say, I was checking other rates and several hotels that have as many "stars" in their reviews can be found cheaper. read more

Stayed here for about a week after the hurricane hit lower south. Rooms were nice, pool was lovely, and food was okay. However, we had to switch rooms in the middle of our stay due to the air conditioning in our original room leaking extreme amounts of water, eventually flooding half of our floor during the night. We also left an item in our previous room, and even though we immediately called to take the item out of the room, they had already rebooked the room. We asked housekeeping to search for the item, but the replied that it was not found. Finally, we requested to search their lost and found but were denied saying that it would take another day before we would be allowed to search. read more

Yet another standard Holiday Inn. My friend and I stayed here while we were in town running the Shamrock Marathon last weekend. Everyone on staff who we met throughout the weekend was extremely friendly. When I checked in, I the receptionist pointed out that if I showed my key card, I would get a $2.00 discount at the aquarium. Awesome, because I was thinking of going there anyway to kill some time on Friday. The hotel also had a nice sign set up in the lobby, welcoming the runners who were in town for the marathon. There was a table full of candy, all in gold wrappers, placed as if they were falling out of the "pot at the end of the rainbow" (this was St. Patrick's Day weekend and, after all, the Shamrock Marathon). They also offered a bowl of mustard packets, with a note explaining why mustard was supposedly good for endurance running. I took my share of candy. I left the mustard. All of the rooms in this hotel have an ocean view. It's really lovely being able to watch the sunrise from the comfort of my bed. All rooms also have a balcony, which was great to sit on, read, and listen to the ocean when the weather was nicer. The location wasn't the best... there are plenty of places within walking distance to eat, but it seemed like there was more going on about 10 blocks uptown. I saw at least one other Holiday Inn (Express) in that direction, so I think next time I am in Virginia Beach I'll stay closer to that area. That would also put me closer to the race start/finish, and a hotel's proximity to the finish line is especially important when running a marathon. The only minor complaint I had about the hotel, which was that they tried to over-charge me for my third night's stay. When I booked the room, Friday and Saturday were one rate, but Sunday's rate was only $40. I was certainly surprised to see that low price when I booked the room, but had multiple e-mail confirmations with that rate. When I received my bill under the door on the morning of checkout, I was being charged the Friday-Saturday rate for Sunday as well. I, of course, brought this to the attention of the receptionist, who could not explain the mix up, and stated that they don't even have a $40 rate, but credited my bill without any hassle. read more

Stayed here once before (almost 20 years ago). All staff was pleasant, polite & friendly. The hotel is pretty centrally located, which we love. Plenty of restaurants & fun within walking distance. Also, every room is ocean front!! So lovely to wake up to that amazing view or even just sit & read on the balcony listening to the waves. The beds are only doubles so it was a little tight for husband & I but kiddo loved being able to sprawl out (we're used to queen and kid is used to twin lol; but hey we were at the beach so no worries). They were also very comfortable. The parking lot is smaller, but theres an overflow lot around the corner. The free valet service always had our vehicle within minutes the few times we went out somewhere not within walking distance (like Williamsburg). Due to the pandemic, housekeeping wasn't entering rooms unless specifically requested but they told us at check in to leave trash & dirty towels outside & they'd be emptied/replaced as needed or just ask if we needed anything else. Both were always promptly removed/replaced, and we even had more towels than we needed most days. Look forward to our next visit!! read more
