Came to the oceanfront for an anniversary stay and dinner. Alicia was so responsive on the phone at the front desk and upgraded us to a suite, Jeff checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed. Visited the Jumpin' Shrimp restaurant for happy hour and then later for dinner. Both times our server Caylee was 100% amazing. The night manager Ivan took care of an issue we had. Our anniversary dinner was delightful! Then we went back for breakfast this morning and the day manager/server Deija was excellent and personable. We thoroughly enjoyed our hotel stay and the restaurants' service. Thank you staff.

    What a view!

I am kinda of torn about this hotel. First let's talking about the good things. Location was right on the beach, restaurant in the hotel and one a few Steps away on the peer. Bed really, really comfortable. Negatives- Thank God we had a room with 2 beds because they didn't change the sheets on one of them. Room clearly looks older but they tried to cover it with new stuff. Don't be fooled by the Marriott name. I probably won't stay there again. Especially for the price we paid!

First, let me start by saying that this rating has no impact on the hotel staff. We had a wonderful experience with all staff members we encountered. The review is strictly based on the hotel state. I am a Marriott bonvoy member and have stayed at numerous Marriott owned hotels, so I have high expectations for their hotels. This hotel, is absolutely not up to Marriott standards. The hotel is in disrepair and in major need of updates. The lobby is very misleading, all furniture, flooring, fixtures, etc are updated in the lobby only. When we arrived, we were very upset by the lack of cleanliness and state of the room. The sheets appeared to Not have been washed, there was mold on the bed skirt, there were plastic chairs in the room as seating. The furniture was old and in disrepair. Luckily, the manger herself went and cleaned the room top to bottom and changed out all bedding. The room was bad enough we were considering leaving and driving back home. Additionally, the hallways appear to be like motel 6 quality and unsafe and reeked of weed. We smelled marijuana our entire stay, it was brought to the attention of the hotel staff but nothing was done. This hotel is absolutely not compliant with non-smoking. Finally, we had to ride the elevator frequently with maintenance staff and cleaning personnel who took their large trash cans up to each floor and appeared to be using towels from the hotel rooms. The positives are the beach/view, the staff members, and the convenient location to the boardwalk/restaurants. Overall, for $300-$400 a night I would avoid this location.

TURN THE OTHER WAY! As a Marriott property, I am extremely disappointed! For $300 per night, I was expecting a higher quality of a hotel, and unfortunately, that was not the case. Pros: Free parking Everyone faces the ocean and most have balconies Close proximity to the beach Two restaurants on the property Free Gym and Pool (however, the pool closes super early for a beachfront property) Cons: The rooms were extremely outdated The bathroom has mold and needed a full-gut job (SEE PICS) The elevators are extremely slow and take forever (there are only nine floors smh) Long story short, this place was not worth the price in regards to quality. Unfortunately, the quality of the rooms was well below my expectations and did not measure up to the spectacular views. AVOID THE HOTEL!

Cockroaches in the hotel. They scatter when you turn the lights on. Managed to capture this guy under a trash can as evidence
    krystin b.

Updated. The hotel gave me 30% off after they found the roach I had trapped under the trash can and assured me they had contracted pest control.

    Best second date ever!

I visited during off-peak season so noise and traffic wasn't too big of an issue at the hotel. I wouldn't want to stay here during the busier times in the summer. I loved how much ocean soundscapes I could hear from the 5th floor balcony. The view was beautiful and the room felt quiet. Something I super appreciated. The only gripes I had was the mandatory valet parking and the extremely low shower pressure. The sink had drainage issues too. I also ran out of towels during my overnight stay. There's no suite, dresser, or closet in the room either. So think short-term stays. I still wouldn't mind returning again in the future and wouldn't hesitate recommending the place to anyone thinking of visiting. The downstairs lobby has breakfast spot as well as a bar and coffee shop. The concierge was friendly and very accommodating. Shoutout to Alexander for making sure everything was set up just right for my visit. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!

The hotel is nice! That was not the issue. The hotel amenities were just small. The pool was super small and with the amount of kids there it was almost like a kids school function or daycare. Then the dogs....I love cute little doggies. But traveling with your animal to vacay is weird to me. It's also gross to smell dog when you get in your room or in the halls. There were so many doggies on vacation with their owners and they'd leave them in the room while they ventured. It was odd. Walking to our room we got barked at, then like a domino effect, the entire doggie day care hall was barking to each other. The view was great! Beds were eh, but I learned that Va Beach is not where you go for a real princess vacay getaway. The room rate was 500$ a night for an ocean view. Now, I have no problem spending that on a room but if you're going to spend that amount per night might as well go somewhere nicer, with better beaches (blue ones), and a real resort. The view is nice but for the price, no. Not after being all over the world this summer at places much nicer and just as expensive, his money could go elsewhere. This past weekend, Aug 14-17, we learned that room rate sky rocket for a last minute getaway and likely were just as high even if we booked earlier. Wouldn't do book last minute ever again and likely would never come back to Va Beach. Staff were friendly. Cute hotel just way too many kids and pets. Plus beds were okay but not the fluffy beds at other Marriott locations.

Staying here you do have some perks they give you a complementary drink voucher for you to use during your day and it's for each day for you to get two drinks during happy hour which is from 4 to 6pm and snacks are included with that. Breakfast was well served and well prepared. They had every section to breakfast classic foods as well as if you want it it's more of like quick and simple like cereal, bread, toast, and then they have their own station of omelette where they had a chef that would prepare it based off of what you requested. The layout is very nice. I love how they gave us wristbands instead of a key card for our rooms and to use the elevator. It's very secure as well as being able to not have to carry around a hotel key to get in and out of your room as well as any other areas where it has access to it. The vibe itself for the hotel it definitely gives you like a vacation outside of your classic beach vibe because you have pools. You have an indoor pool and an outdoor pool and a restaurants. this right there called tacos and tequila. They are currently opened but I we'll highly recommend getting there during their non-peak hours, and their food is amazing. Their Baja fish taco is my favorite to get from there. They also give you the option for parking valet parking as well as parking pass, which is the overnight rate which is $25 an hour and you can go in and out of a parking lot. That's another thing I did like about that general area where the other hotels including this one is that they have a parking garage where you're not obligated to have to to get another ticket or get charged extra for going out if you needed to so I didn't think that's a good perk for me by that wants to stay and have a staycation but still has to do some type of things throughout the day. I would highly recommend going to these hotels. The room service from the restaurant option is the restaurant where you get the complementary drinks from and they are operating throughout the night even later hours and I do find that very convenient for people that like to go out like Myself and wanna have like a nice good bite or even dinner our late night dinner I got their salmon which was really good. This location is definitely a hidden gem You're kinda in your own oasis away from home, but you're in Virginia Beach because they have it set up where it's essentially like you're on a private island and you just have like the view point of the beach and they offered other enemies, including beach, chairs, umbrellas, and stuff with your say so that's also a good thing for people that want to just get away for a little bit but wanna stay in Virginia Beach so I highly recommend staying here as an option if you're looking for something that has a little bit of everything and you have nearby access to other things like the other restaurants that are in that same area.

Even though it was a quick trip, everyone felt truly recharged thanks to all the little conveniences included in our stay. Located on the Cavalier resort property, we took full advantage of the beachfront access. It was so nice to wake up and just walk out to the beach for some vitamin sea and then when it got too hot, hang out in the pool. My daughter's loved the little water loungers and spent at least an hour, pretending they were seals slipping and sliding away on an iceburg. They also had cute little activities like mermaid and pirate meet and greets that my littlest one enjoyed. Having Tacos and Tequila right next door made a quick and delicious pool lunch and the kiddos (especially my oldest) was obsessed with the made-to-order breakfast that was included in our stay. I never thought I was the kind of person who cared about oceanfront rooms, as long as the room is close to the beach. But I think I've changed my mind. I really enjoyed eating meals watching the waves, and I was able to let my kids go to the beach while I sat in the room because I could see them from our room and they didn't have to cross any streets to get there. Also the breakfast was awesome! We immediately gravitated to the diy waffles with vanilla and red velvet options, and lots of toppings like chocolate chips and chocolate syrup. But I was impressed by the healthy options too like oranges, bananas, apples and canned fruit. There were great warm options too like scrambled eggs with salsa and shredded cheese, sausage and diced potatoes. The only things to mention are: -Parking is $20 a night. -There is an indoor pool but not an outdoor pool. -Good luck surviving the restaurant on the first floor, with its daily temptation to order from the reasonably priced happy hour menu (orange crushes for $5!). :)

The housekeeping staff does a meticulous job cleaning each room after the guests leaves. Throughout our nearly 6 months stay, Jerome and Herbert in particular have really gone out of their way to keep our stay here feel like home. For example, when our A/C unit failed in the middle of murky summer, Jerome replaced the entire unit right away. I have also had trouble handling the incredible humidity I've not experienced since leaving Japan. But thank goodness for Jerome again --he ensured I had a really good dehumidifier that also helped muffle noises as well. I cannot emphasize enough on what a truly instrumental role he had played in keeping my whole family feel comfortable. I find that especially noteworthy because we were there for quite awhile. The Lodge location is steps away from the Dam Neck Naval Base Beach and the sunrise is beautiful. It also has a kitchenette that is fully functional to cook a good meal unless you need an oven. The fridge is big enough to put in whatever you need and the stove is easy to cleanup. The cabinets are stuffed with everything you'd find in a kitchen. Cooking utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups, wine openers, wine glass, dish rack, soap and sponge. You name it, they have it. And this is what really makes the stay better than being over at the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) if you are here for awhile-- especially if you are like me and prefer to cook your own meals, staying at the Lodge is a MUST. And if you have pets, the Lodge is also AN ABSOLUTE must. One of the great things about Navy Lodge Oceana is how pet friendly it is. Our two beagles loved the area and there are 3 receptacles on-site to keep doggie poo thrown out. Keep in mind that it is a high tick and flea area so ensuring they get brushed after a walk is a must! Well, not unless you like to shriek like me when I found two ticks on my laptop thanks to my dog ubering them inside. And just for the record, both dogs also take Nexgard and Heartgard monthly. Now the NGIS might work beautifully for those who are in the Dam Neck /Oceana area for short term stay, or ok with eating takeouts every day because you don't cook, and /or doesn't have pets. Or that they'd prefer the nicer furniture or less noise to deal with. I've stayed at both and NGIS is far easier to make reservations for leisure and their beds are very comfortable. In sum, I had a fantastic stay and I look forward to returning every chances I get. For $75/night, the rates are exceptional and the location is perfect. I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to everyone. -- Cons: Elevator--The building has no elevator. So if you have loads of luggages, you will need to take it to your room upstairs using the staircase. Reservation --Making reservation here can be pretty easy if you are staying because of TAD/TDA/PCS orders. For leisure traveling, you'd have better luck at the NGIS or other nearby civilian operated hotels. The leisure travel can be only made 7 days ahead of the stay. And chances are, you are 99% likely to be told they have nothing for vacancies, or they have something for just 1 day out of a 7 day trip or something very inconvenient. WiFi--The WiFi here can be spotty, nonexistent, or extremely slow. If there's someone playing video games in the evening, you can tell right away and you have a bad night ahead of you if you need the Internet. It'd be far less frustrating to get Internet connection elsewhere. Also, the cellphone data connection here is also rather lousy. So no, using data won't help with watching YouTube or something else. If you need to make a call, you'd also have better luck by going outside. You'll see bunches of other sailors or marines pacing and walking around sometimes for the same reason. Noise level--You can hear just about everything from your surroundings. Toilet flushing, heart stopping door slams, other dogs barking all day, people's conversations and/or TV sounds all hours of day, jets, gunshots from the swamp side, housekeepers cleaning , anything in the hallway, etc. Privacy Please sign on the door doesn't mean much either. So if your next door guest has his alarm go off at 0500 and well into 0800, nobody can or will do anything about it. Well, not unless Herbert is working in the morning. He was the only person who was willing to intervene after multiple other lobby staff refused to help. Try imagining the alarms making a loud incessant beeping the entire time behind your headboard at 0500 on a Sunday for 3+ hours while the other guest somehow sleep through it or not even be there over the weekend! My point is, if you are sensitive to noise stimuli, or dislike wearing ear plugs, I don't recommend staying here.
