I picked up the car after the shop was closed and discovered they had completely disregarded what I had asked them to do and replaced the rear brakes. During the morning of January 6, 2026, the employees at the Meijer gas station at 3965 U.S. 31…read moreSouth, Traverse City, Michigan were aware of service problem which was also a fire hazard, but did nothing about it. Specifically, the fuel nozzle trigger for Pump 12 was damaged such that gasoline flowed very slowly: it took over eight minutes to pump fifteen or so gallons into my pickup truck tank. (I didn't realize this until minutes into the pumping, at which time I just decided to keep doing it.) Though that was a nuisance, the serious problem was this: because fuel pumped so slowly, the automatic shut-off device didn't trip when the truck's tank was full. Instead, the gasoline slowly overflowed the filler neck, then dribbled out the small drainage hole by the neck onto the pavement. I didn't know that until I looked at the pumped gasoline total and realized it was more than could have possibly gone into my truck's tank. Perhaps as much as a gallon of gasoline ended up on the pavement. The fire risk was probably low: the pavement was wet with slush and snow. However, had the gasoline drained across a hot component under the truck, it might have ignited. I went into the gas station and told the clerk about the problem. To my astonishment, she calmly said she knew about it, and mentioned something about telling a manager later. The question is this: why didn't a Meijer employee go to the pump when they learned about the problem, cone off the pavement beside the pump and cover the nozzle so customers couldn't use it, and perhaps also shut off the pump? Instead, they left a defective pump free for customers to use it, and in so doing created a fire hazard. Which is why I reported the gas station fire hazard to the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department.

I got home to see that I was charged way more than I should have. I called corporate to find out what the charge was and discovered that I was charged for gas when I in fact DID not get gas here. They submitted a claim to get a credit for me and the general manager at this store DENIED my claim. I then had to take time out of my work day to contact the store and speak to the manager. After about 15 minutes of waiting for him to review security cameras to prove that I was not ripping him off, he finally admitted he saw that I did not purchase gas and the cashier wrongfully charged me for someone else's gas by not ending the transaction in front of me. He said he will call corporate and change the credit to approved. Over two weeks have went by and STILL NO REFUND. I contacted corporate again and they said that they cannot issue a credit because the general manager DENIED my claim. What a way to run a business! I understand mistakes happen so was fine with the mix-up initially but when you won't admit fault and make the situation right EVEN AFTER SEEING SECURITY CAMERAS PROVING I DID NOT BUY GAS, then it is COMPLETELY unacceptable. I will no longer be visiting Speedway ESPECIALLY this location and will make sure to let everyone I know about my bad experience. Shame on them... what thieves!

I have one of their reward cards, which I have had for years. I signed up because of the promise of "free" gas. In over six or seven years, I've yet to ever receive my free gas. Usually pricier than the other gas stations, they just pick the more convenient side of the road or intersection to be located.
