It's difficult to fully explain what happens during a session with her because the experience is so unique and deeply personal. I'm someone who usually prefers structure, plans, and clear expectations but this work didn't operate that way and requires you to submit and trust the process, as elusive as that sounds. I wasn't even super clear on what I wanted to work on initially, I just knew I was at a crossroads. However, reflecting back, the changes that occurred were profound, rapid, and largely unconscious/unintentional. I wouldn't have even necessarily been able to define what I wanted to change or heal until suddenly things had lifted and I realized how different I felt and was operating only in hindsight. Elaine was able to identify and clear emotional blocks I had carried since early childhood; including a heaviness and melancholy I didn't even realize had become part of my normal baseline until it was gone. One of the biggest shifts I noticed was in my nervous system and emotional reactivity. I used to experience an immediate stress response to even minor external triggers and would absorb other people's negative energy very deeply. Now, I still recognize others' emotions without carrying them as my own and can operate with boundaries in such an effortless manner. A few things I initially had questions about since I personally typically comb through reviews as "due diligence" before making a big commitment to something. 1.) Her prerequisite readings are important. This work is not passive, and having foundational understanding before hand allows sessions to go much deeper. 2.) Her fees initially made me hesitant. But after working with her, I completely understand why. She gives an extraordinary amount of time, energy, care, and presence to her clients far beyond the session itself. This is not a "clock in, clock out" experience. When I compare it to the money I've spent over the years trying to fill internal voids through therapy, self-help, vacations, material things, medications, or temporary coping tools, the investment now feels incredibly worthwhile. Most importantly, Elaine never operates from fear, pressure, or manipulation. There is never any "you need to pay more to fix/save yourself" energy that you hear about in exploitative psychic scams with continually escalating payment demands. She is grounded, genuine, transparent, and deeply gifted at what she does and trustworthy. She is not a hard-sell type of healer at all. I did not have to pay beyond my original quote. This greatly helps me because I did not have the budget for the service without health coverage. This experience showed me this company is honest, keeps it word and does it's best to help their clients. If they make a mistake they will fix it. I would recommend them to anyone who can afford the services or happens to have very good Aetna insurance. Susie really puts a lot of thought into crafting each class and there's an element of community building too. I also took a private restorative class from her to jumpstart my home practice- very helpful. The Feldenkrais and Somatics class is fantastic! When I leave that class I feel like I just had a long meditation. The hatha class is the most strenuous I want to get, and she is the best hatha instructor I have ever had. The Melt class was also great. While this wasn't perfect fit for me I did meet people in there that said it helped them manage their pain (better than anything else they've tried). I did not try the Hale yoga class so I can't comment on what that's like. I had a few acupressure sessions with Rachel and she was great. I got something out of those sessions- so great for strengthening the mind body connection. They also just hired an acupuncturist (also named Rachel) and I have been to her half a dozen times at another location. They certainly are building and recruiting the best of the best here. What's great is that it isn't composed of the same crowd as other studios. Classes have people ages 20s-60+. You can wear whatever you want without feeling like you're a bum (compared to all the trendy yoga clothes people wear). The focus really is on health. I highly recommend this studio. Mandy knew her stuff. With confidence she worked out my hip which has been giving me issues for a year and seemed to be flaring up in new manifestations recently. She was more vocal during the massage than most, but for the results, I'm happy to trade off a bit of conversation for a reduced pain afternoon. When I got off the table, I was sore (in an effective way) and I could feel my hips aligned more comfortably, my lower back had released and I could feel a positive change. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a massage for pain reduction. As a Crohn's patient, I have experienced lengthy periods of time where I was not able to be as active as I would have liked, I have undergone multiple major surgeries, and much more. As a result, my body has been in need of some pampering and re-tuning and this massage provided exactly that. Having undergone major surgery, and being an ostomy patient, I had some reservations about having a massage, with my main question being "was it going to be uncomfortable or painful lying on my stoma?" I informed Mandy of my concerns ahead of time, and when I arrived, she was prepared. I had no idea that there was a pillow specifically designed for clients who are pregnant or unable to/uncomfortable with laying flat on their stomach for medical reasons. She had the pillow set up and talked me through what my session would look like. She asked me if I was comfortable and ready and if I had any questions or concerns. Because of her thoroughness and her true care and concern for my physical needs, I knew I was in great hands. The massage itself was exactly the relaxation that I needed. The combination of lighting, temperature and music helped to create a place where you forget about anything other than the fact that you feel the tension in your muscles melt away like butter. Mandy was very much in tune with what I was experiencing, whether it was enjoyment or discomfort. She noticed when I crinkled my face and asked whether or not it was painful and let me know that she could adjust, if necessary. As I mentioned earlier, the massage session was very informative. As she was preparing to work on my legs, I asked a question that I have been somewhat concerned about for a while. I said, "this might be a weird question, but do my ankles look okay to you?," to which she replied, "that's not a weird question." As a lymphedema therapist, too, she is familiar with fluid build up in the body. I noticed the puffiness in my ankles following my surgeries, but I have had it for a while now and couldn't pinpoint exactly when I first noticed it. I honestly thought it was a result of my regaining weight after a long battle with illness, but it was, in fact, a build up of fluid, which can happen following surgeries such as the ones I underwent, in addition to long periods of being sedentary. Being the excellent therapist that she is, she focused for a bit on my legs and worked to help break up the fluid that had built up and was visible in my ankles. When I got up from the massage and looked at my feet, I could see definition in my ankles, which I have not seen in quite some time. My straps on my sandals were looser today. To think that that much of a difference was noticed in one visit makes me excited to think of the healing ahead!
