What an incredible experience…read more When I went in for my consultation with Dr. Eileen Zhuo and her assistant, I wasn't even healthily skeptical of Chinese medicine, non-Western practices and acupuncture. I was convinced they didn't work at all. But I also felt like I had nothing to lose. I'd been suffering from severe, two-week-long PMS that basically left me incapacitated, chronically lethargic and sick - for half my life. My period cramps were even worse. I was taking approximately 5-12 Advils a day (200 mg/pill) for several days to combat the cramps, assuring the eventual destruction of my liver. I was prescribed Ketoralac for pain management by my ob/gyn, a medication with a black box warning. Within two weeks of starting acupuncture and taking both kinds of herbs that Zhuo recommended, I was on the mend. The first period after starting acupuncture was without cramps entirely. So was the second. And the third. My PMS started to lift. Or rather, it shifted from severe to mild. Even my intense food cravings disappeared. But oddly, other changes started occurring that nobody at the clinic warned me about. For instance, I now have this incredible, formidable bodily and mental energy that I've never had in my life. Apparently, I'm producing more chi because I'm regaining my health. I have so much energy that I often don't know how to channel it. And my insomnia is practically gone. I always have been a night owl, often taking more than two hours from the time my head hits the pillow to fall asleep. After three months of treatment, I'm sleeping within 15 minutes of laying down, sometimes less. I've never felt more alive or more in control of my life. I was initially diagnosed with metatarsalgia by an orthopedic doctor. He prescribed me foot exercises and metatarsal pads and neither of these ideas was helpful. I then went to a physical therapist and completed all prescribed exercises and this gave me no relief. It was then that I came to Acupuncture Health Center to see Dr. Huan Ma. I was skeptical of acupuncture but willing to try anything to see if I could avoid getting cortisone injections and/or surgery to resolve my nerve pain. The results were impressive. By the 5th acupuncture visit, my nerve pain was decreased by 90%, and it was totally resolved by the 8th visit. Near the end of these sessions, I mentioned to Dr. Ma that I needed to have toe spur surgery due to pain between my 4th and 5th toe due to a toe spur. I had been evaluated by an orthopedic doctor for this a few years ago and was told that this was the only treatment option. Dr. Ma informed me that he could resolve the toe spur pain through acupuncture. I decided to give this a try and it was resolved in another 8 visits. I actually had to cancel the original appt, but he accomodated me during the next week anyways. Definitely a different experience and I will be back - left feeling very calm and relaxed. It's a "community" experience, so anyone else that is in for a treatment is visible and hanging out in the same room - if you have a problem with that then its not for you. He's got the REI type recliner chairs set up which are awesome and just a really nice guy trying to start his own business. There is a sliding fee scale, basically pay what you want between $20 and $40 if i remember correctly. Would definitely recommend checking it out, unless you are the type that needs to pay ridiculous amounts of money for the same service in a "spa-like" environment. I dug it.

I like very firm pressure and she totally delivers...no wimpy massages here! She has magic hands and seems to find every sore or tight spot, even the ones I don't know that I have. She always seems to be intensely focused on me and my massage for the entire duration of the service--in other words, I feel like I am getting my money's worth! Julie puts me at ease and doesn't make small talk, letting me get into my "zone" and concentrate on breathing and releasing tension. Bonus is that the studio is located in my neighborhood and within walking distance of my house. It's not a busy place with lots of people coming in and out-- in fact each time I have been there, I was the only client. It makes for a really relaxed experience. Oh, and the online scheduling option is great! A couple things to be aware of: The studio is located in the second floor of a older home, which I think is super cozy, but may not be for everyone (i.e. it is not a luxury spa). It is located just off a busy intersection and not too far from the airport, so there is some traffic/airplane noise, but I'm a city gal so I hardly notice.
