Disappointed...no, Devastated I want to preface this by saying I know if I sell anything, ANYTHING, at a pawn shop, I am going to be ripped off. So will you. This is an industry that almost exclusively profits from desperate people. They're in the business of buying valuable items for a fraction of its worth- YOUR item-then reselling it for double, or more what they paid you for it. And we thank them for being kind enough to rip us off, because now you have something in your pocket, whereas before you did not. You will never get half of what your item is valued at in the current market, and most people know this and do what they feel is necessary in that situation. That said, pawn shops, like mechanics, have a responsibility to be honest, fair, and transparent with their customers.​ Unfortunately, this was not my experience with Michael. Buyer's remorse, or seller's remorse in my case, is always too bad, so sad. But as someone who patronized this person's business TWICE, I had hoped that my first experience wasn't the rule but the exception. For example, my silver was not weighed in front of me. And I was foolish to not push the issue- because he's doing me a favor, see? Buying my silver even though "it's not worth much." Because pawn shops are in the business of doing charity work, right? If we're to believe this honest salesman, my 7 rings and 2 pendants weighed 45 grams. And unfortunately, I made the decision to believe that he was honest, because I needed groceries. And for the price of "48" grams of silver, I was blessed with 45 dollars. Unfortunately, my silver is not as valuable as the silver he likes, I guess, but luckily he wanted to help me. He also didn't want to make me wait, because his computer was actually acting up, so I just signed the blank "receipt." For him, of course, not me. But like George Bush, fool me once...um.. can't get fooled again? If you're me you can. Went back, second and last time. Same scenario, only I had the presence of mind to take pictures of what I was trying to sell. Still not valuable, still never saw the scale, but this time, it was 30 dollars for "40" grams. I'm no jeweler, and I don't know what each piece weighed. But I did some research for comparison. And I'll go back and PUBLICLY APOLOGIZE if I can see the scale- my guess is my things...well, his now- are still there, because there's nothing displayed. At all. I don't know what is done with the items bought, but there's no showroom or displays, just a counter and locked door in a small storefront. So short story long, I don't recommend. Tried twice, fooled twice, shame on me, but also, Hollywood Pawn, you suck. And Im including the pictures of some of the items I sold, so anyone can eyeball them and let me know Im retarded and also wrong, if they happen to be in the business of accurately determining the weight of silver. There was a lot, but it's not quite half. I'm embarrassed. And I wish I hadn't gone to Hollywood Pawn. read more

This is the BEST experience I have ever had! This is my 2nd time using them for Jewelry. The owner fixed my husband's diamond ring and did such a fantastic job I brought him my grandmothers diamond ring. I had been so hesitant to have it fixed for fear of something happening to it. I brought in an unused Sony Action Cam (HDR-AS30V). It was a gift. I no longer had the box, never had the sd card--sold separately. I provided the unused usb cable, sealed mounting support components, and the original battery. Instead of listing it on Amazon, or auctioning it at ebay I decided to try and sell it at a pawn shop. I spent some time investigating its current market value. Amazon & Ebay both listed the item; selling for a little over a hundred (on average). I asked for $80. Mike (the owner) said he could only do half that, $40. I puked, I mean, rebutted "$45?" He couldn't budge. He mentioned he saw it selling for $70 and needed a 20% profit margin. I know $14 is 20% of $70. I know $14 minus $70 is $56, but his shop appeared to sell most of its items online... More vault surreal, little retail appeal. It the shop you go to pawn your watches, jewelry and sell your gold. That being said, selling items online comes with more overhead, so I was fine selling it to him for $40. If anyone ever feels like Mike's offer isn't a fair one, (not a comment like this exists in the Yelper verse) his shop shares a block with three or four pawnshops, so they may be able to find a better deal without getting back into their car. I didn't have to do that. I felt like Mike was straight up with me, just like everyone else reviewing Hollywood Pawners did. I've been to a few other Pawnshops in the City and Hollywood is at the top of the list. Hollywood Pawners is a professionally ran operation, with no-games staff, straight up offers, and staff that doesn't waste time, not theirs or yours. I'll be going there again. read more

I took some old gold I had laying around the house to Hollywood pawners. When I arrived there was parking right on front of the store which is always nice when visiting a pawn shop. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly man behind the counter Mike Kaplan who helped me sell my old gold for a GREAT DEAL. Before visiting Hollywood I went to see what a Gold max store and a cash for gold store would offer and it was much lower than Hollywood pawners gave me. I would highly recommend this store.
