    Waiting..... and missing the game.

I see shows here regularly and the space is amazing with good site lines, vibe and sound. Unfortunately, the World Cup viewing parties gone from okay to terrible. From opening the doors late, poor handling of the queues and complete disorganization. The last game we arrived 30 mins before the game and ended up getting in 15 mins after the game started. That's 45 minutes of waiting around as the staff and security looked lost and confused, meanwhile all the line up was getting impatient. We definitely won't go to another World Cup here. Find a pub and pass on the chaos.

Friend and I stopped in for happy hour (3-6). The happy hour menu is pretty good. $5 for a Hollywood highball not bad. This is a must stop for a drink. It takes you back in time. The remodel was done with taste. There are high top tables and theatre style seating. Felt safe and the staff were nice.

Really nice theatre with great acoustics for live music. The staff is... "gaffe prone" but once you're in it's just a great spot for a show.

We got there quite early into service so not a lot of people in the place. The ceiling is low, it's kind of dark, but somehow it works. It feels maybe more intimate, which was right up our alley. We wanted some nibbles, not a full blown meal lest we fall asleep during the performance. Happy hour was still on so we ordered the dill pickle chips and the burger sliders combo. Both were excellent! The chips were spot on definitely dill pickley, nicely cooked and crispy. The sliders were really great as well, not too small like many we've had lately and you could really taste the beef. Our martinis were also great although a little more juice in the "dirty" side of the equation and perhaps an olive without a pit. We also ordered the BLT with mixed greens, which we probably didn't need but Les Mis is almost three hours long. The service was also great, waters topped up regularly and the servers interactive and interesting. We would absolutely come back to Ventura again. Oh and Les Misérables was outstanding!

If I was a rock star, this is where I'd want to record. Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks so; AC/DC, Aerosmith, The Cranberries, and Nickelback are just some of the bands that have their awards hanging on the walls of their album's birthplace. Unfortunately, my review won't be in the direction of Armoury Studios' intended usage, but rather as a music venue. I was fortunate enough to win tickets to last night's Uninvited Guest with Three Days Grace through The Fox. The show was an amazing acoustic set. The studio space has great sound and is a very intimate venue with about 50 people in the audience. It was well organized and everyone got personal time with Three Days Grace for autographs, pictures, and questions. If only every concert could be such an experience. The only drawbacks were that once the set started, no one was permitted to leave the studio proper, so bathroom breaks had to be timed carefully and there's no option for the audience to have refreshments in the studio. I understand the need for these requirements, but it's what was missing to achieve perfection. My experience at Armoury Studios was so stellar, that I will fight tooth and nail to see artists in my taste there. Watch out CFOX, I'll be harassing you for entry into the next performance.

The Cobalt is the lowest common denominator of bars in Vancouver, but it manages to take a certain pride in the dilapidated scenario. Typically full of punkish-goth kids, it serves extremely cheap beer and highballs, has ample seating and room for mosh pits, and comes off as unpretentious, in a "too good for good" sort of way. Many loud bands are given their first opportunity here, and many of the better ones return after achieving success for nostalgia's sake. Things can get out of hand, as conventional wisdom tends to get left behind in coat check, and obnoxious teenage drunks start doing whatever they want. I've even seen a band shoot whiskey filled super soakers out into the audience. This is actually the only place I ever did cocaine, taking it for the only time on one of the musty old cars parked out back. I had always envisioned doing blow with nice clothes, beautiful women, a mirror, and a rolled up hundred dollar bill, but the Cobalt was so exactly opposite that it seemed perfect.

The long wooden bar dominated the space but was filled with an excellent variety of craft brew from all over Vancouver and BC. I really enjoyed the range of craft beer options, some included: Steel & Oak, Powell St., 33 Acres, Strange Fellows, Four Winds, and many more! There was also a great cocktail list that is keeping pace with craft cocktail explosion, particularly in Gastown/Chinatown. In this instance we got some cocktails "whipped up". Be careful what you wish for, in the best possible way. As the night went on it became a much more social some as people began to gather around the bar and fill up the space giving it a buzzing feeling. The bar staff were awesome! At tentative and accommodating. Will definitely go back. Ps there is a good truck outside so, when you need a snack...
