Like most of the tasting rooms in Carmel Valley, they abut the main road through town, but unlike the other tasting rooms we visited once you pass through the gate in the rock wall to the front garden you won't see it. The garden is lovely with several seating areas and cornhole games to play. The tasting room itself is also lovely. We happened to be there for Easter Brunch and sat on the back patio which is equally as lovely. All of the staff were attentive, fast and friendly. We did a wine tasting after the brunch on the front patio and loved all the wine. Would def recommend. read more

Cute tasting room. Casual. Didn't get the feeling of being pretentious. GENEROUS pours during our tasting which included 5 wines: rose, Chardonnay, 2 Pinots and a Syrah. Our host was attentive but allowed us time to enjoy the wines and chat in between, which I did appreciate. She also explained at the beginning of our tasting that they bring out new glasses for each wine. Therefore, no rush to guzzle our precious glass! Loved that she mentioned this! We had a group tasting here and it was just perfect. Outdoor patio is lovely and has a great view of the mountains, but the indoor wine tasting area is also beautiful and rustic. Wines were very nice, the Pinot noirs are their specialty and those were our favorite (three brothers version was a bit better than three sisters imo). No complaints! read more

One of the many wine tasting rooms we stopped along the Monterey/carmel area. This one was a much more casual vibe. Lots of outdoor seating and people who brought their dogs. They have some corn hole games out in the front or there's also inside seating (I personally thought it was too dark in there). As we first entered we were all given canned water and given the background and history of the estate and the winery. A thing to note is that the tasting room and the winery itself are two separate things so make sure you map to the right one. Server was knowledgeable and friendly, but as soon as it got crowded it was hard to track her down to close out. The wine itself I thought was just alright. Maybe we ordered the wrong ones. Menu was pretty small and straight forward. Personally think there are other wineries to visit. read more

Went here with a couple of friends and when my s/o and I arrived, they were already seated. Our server was SUPER accommodating, realizing that my s/o was the only one in an uncomfortable, wood seat and everyone else had cushions. She offered to move us, but we all voted to stay. Love the low key atmosphere here. There were tables and umbrellas where we could just hang out and chill, as opposed to being rushed through flight pours at a bar. We also arrived hungry, oops. The guys went off to get tacos nearby and this place let us eat our food on site since they only had charcuterie boards and we had four, giant guys in the group. Got the Library tasting and loved the Chardonnay and the fourth red on the list. Our server was also super patient as we took our time with each flight pour. It probably helped that we were a big group and stayed until closing, no one else needed our spot. We enjoyed our time at this place and would consider coming back again. Love, love, love this tasting room. My best friend and I went on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago and did a tasting at their cozy fireplace seating area. Pours were very generous which was great for sipping and hanging out. Usually with really small pours, the tasting goes by super quickly so this was a nice relaxing experience. The homemade chexmix was the perfect crunchy salty snack with the wine. The staff is great as well, I felt very welcomed and comfortable. After the tasting we shared a bottle of Rose (which was to die for!) and relaxed by the fire for a few hours. read more

Hubby and I walked in and was greeted by Zoee. Whom was gracious to accept us without a reservation. We sat outside which we had to ourselves. It was 65 degrees and beautiful. We tried one of each wine tasting and it did not disappoint with trying the wines they had. Zoee was very informative with all of the wines, from the first taste to the last, she was very good to us! The wines were great and fairly priced. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We had two babies accompanying our party, and there was no problem bringing them. Kid friendly! Surprisingly poor wine?!? Why had this place 4 stars?!??? Got the regular tasting, which included a rose, a white, and three reds. The stories are interesting - wines named after kids and what not. But wow was the wine terrible. Ok so specifically what kind of bad? The white after taste was like water. Literally. Water. Not even sure how that's possible. One of the reds tasted like a grape experiment gone wrong - pure acidity and tanins? Not sure how it was possible, but I had to put it in my mouth, so it was an unfortunately real liquid. Most of us poured at least 3 of the wines into the buckets after a sip. Also, one of our party members didn't show and we got charged for their tasting - but didn't get their wine. We stopped in to Holman Ranch on a whim yesterday afternoon for a tasting. The tasting room is really beautiful and rustic. There's plenty of seating inside and out as well as a small bar. We were welcomed as we walked in and invited to take a seat wherever we wanted. We chose to sit at the bar and share a tasting (tasting fee is $35, waived with a 3 bottle purchase). My only complaint, if you can call it that, is I found the tasting fee a tad bit high especially for Carmel Valley. Elizabeth handled our tasting like a champ. She told us about each wine as she poured. We started with a sparkling brut rose. While I am not typically a bubbly fan, this was nice and refreshing. Sadly this wine is sold only by the magnum which is a bit much for just the two of us. The next pour was the rose of Pinot Noir - summertime in a glass was my immediate reaction with notes of strawberry and peach. The last three pours were Pinot Noirs, Heather's Hill (the lightest of the three), Three Brothers and the Hunter's Cuvee (the boldest of the bunch and my favorite of the tasting). They do offer wine by the glass so we each enjoyed a glass of Kelly's Press Pinot Noir after the tasting. I really appreciated the bottles of water (in Holman Ranch reusable bottles) and flavorful snack mix offered with the tasting. So important to stay hydrated and also be able to cleanse your palate between wines. The snack mix was provided from a local bakery/catering company (I wish I could remember the name). It was so good, we took a couple bags with us along with a couple of delicious cookies (one chocolate chip and a double chocolate). Their Chardonnay and Pinot Gris was sold out, but we were told they were bottling mid-May. They also offered olive oils, but only to club members. We had a lovely visit and will more than likely stop in again! read more

HR is serving up an amazing wine tasting experience. All of their wines were delicious from the pino nior, pino gris and even their chard. Antonio was a blast and treated us amazing! Their patio is dog friendly and they even brought bowls out for our fur babies. Their snack pack was delicious and all locally sourced. Attended the Father's Day bbq event on June 18th. The event was from 1:00 to 4:30. They had live music and a Pop Up bbq by Hoodbachi. The food company was terrible. They were very unorganized and very late with the food. I was one of the first to get my plate (made to order) at 2:30. The people after me had to wait 20-30 mins for their plates. The food was no more than county fair food. The sirloin was almost too tough to eat. I believe the average plate was about $30. I'm giving this review FIVE STARS because the staff (two girls) did a great job handling very irate customers by offering the tasting rooms snacks and charcuterie foods. The staff was very apologetic for the food service. I did like the Kelly's Press Pinot Noir. Very tasty. read more

We belong to another winery (just down the road from HR) but wanted to try a different Carmel Valley winery. Sure glad we did! Zoey was an excellent host, very knowledgeable about the wines (we got 1 regular and 1 reserved tastings) and was right on about each one. We asked for a cheese plate and it was brought out quickly. Later, when we tried the Jarman Pinot Noir, my wife really wanted some chocolate to go with. Zoey had a chocolate/chocolate out like a flash! Tasting outside in the courtyard was so nice and added to the experience. At the end, and with no pressure, we joined the wine club. Really look forward to visiting the vineyard next! read more

We are from out of state, and our experience at the Holman Ranch tasting room was the highlight of our trip. The tasting room is tucked away in a very cool & historic building, which created the perfect ambiance. The outdoor patio on a beautiful, sunny day (socially distanced) could have been in a movie scene. Kirstie and staff were so knowledgeable and gave us very personalized attention. We loved the wine and tasting experience so much that we ended up booking a vineyard & winery tour at the Holman Ranch guest ranch. I cannot recommend the Holman Ranch tasting room enough. It is a must do/see if you are near Carmel or Carmel Valley. We cannot wait to go back and have loved sharing the story of Holman Ranch and the wines we discovered with all of our friends. read more

My Lady friend and I went to Holman Ranch Tasting Room last Friday and had a great time. The two people working there (a male and female) were very attentive, relaxed, informative and knowledgeable. Being a local winemaker, it's wonderful that owners like Holman Ranch are representing our industry!
