Let me start by saying I've been to well over a few hundred wine tasting experiences in my life and have large wine collection. The knowledge that my wife and I experienced with Joyce's tasting room host, Kerry(sp?) was impressive and noteworthy. Kerry's knowledge was well beyond 95% of the hosts that we've experienced in Napa, Sonoma, Willamette Valley, Walla Walla, etc. and 100% of the tasting rooms in Monterey County. You get the point. This made our experience at Joyce special. The wine lineup at our tasting had a few unique varietals that we don't see very often. Albariño and Gamay were two of the five wines we tried. We took some Gamay home with us. This was the first tasting room in Monterey County that I felt had a host with deep knowledge. Joyce is lucky to have him... AND the wine, paired with the Owner's (Russell) story, is really good as well. You don't need to go to Beaujolais France to have a find good Gamay. Just stop by Joyce's tasting room in the Village. read more

We had such a great time tasting wine at Joyce Wine Company! Andrew was so knowledgeable and accommodating. We are kind of wine geeks and had all kinds of questions about the different AVA's in Monterey county. The wines were all really good and reasonably priced! The tasting room was very nice and spacious and we could even bring in our golden doodle. This is one of our favorite tasting rooms in the valley. Everyone is super friendly and Russel, the winemaker is often at the tasting room and willing to chat and explain some of his processes. The bottle prices are super reasonable and you can usually find something for everyone. Not only are the wines great, but the space can't be beat. You can sit inside the cozy tasting room itself or sit outside on the patio and enjoy the valley sun. Take a glass and play bocce or cornhole and really take some time to enjoy the space. My favorite wine here is the Gamay. Light and perfect for a sunny afternoon on the patio. On our most recent visit I picked up a rose and a "Rocas Red" a light, chillable red from their other label. At $25/ea it was a steal! Oh, and they are tied to the wine house in the same complex so they delivered our bread and butter to our table so def take advantage of that partnership too! read more

A friend asked me to pick up her wine club shipment and I couldn't turn down the opportunity to try a new winery. My husband and I showed up at 5 pm on a Saturday. The winery closes at 6 and was only offering glasses at this point, no tastings. So I'd suggest coming earlier than 1 hour before close if you want to do a full tasting. I grabbed a glass of the GSM and my husband had the Gamay Noir. Both were solid wines, but I much preferred the GSM. Just personal preference. The service here was amazing, shout out to Bri for her hospitality. The tasting room itself has tons of indoor and outdoor seating options. There is only one unisex bathroom inside, which got held up when my husband and myself tried to use it. Overall, I had a great experience and can't wait to come back to do a full tasting. read more

I made a trip here because my friend joined their wine club and offered to make a pick up for him. In return, I was given a free tasting as part of my friend's membership. So, when I walked in they were already expecting me and already had the wines boxed up. I think maybe they were just expecting me to take the box and go but I did mention the tasting that my friend confirmed was on their books. There wasn't anyone else around at the time so it seemed a little weird that I had to bring it up. The wines were fine-I'm not a big wine drinker and the past weekend I had hit my saturation point for vino. Service was pretty slow, I get that they want you to pause and sip and savor but especially after a group of three came in halfway through our tasting it was pretty obvious that I was an afterthought. I don't know if I'd every go back to the Carmel Valley but I'll probably check out some other places before I come back here. read more

I came here with friends for my bday to do a wine tasting! It's actually nice that it's located in a strip full of other wineries! It's the first one of the strip and it's super cute! Reservations were pretty easy to make in Tock and the one thing that I loved was the misters and umbrellas! We came around 230-3ish, we got seated right away and it was pretty hot that day, about 91. Being from the city, we wore our layers and didn't anticipate it to be this hot compared to Monterey. We sat at a table right under the misters and had a large umbrella giving us shade! This tasting came with 5 wines and they were Chardonnay, rose and cabs. The pours were a little on the light side but it was enough for us to get a good taste of the wine! My faves were definitely the rose and the Pinot noir and I definitely got those bottles to bring home. My friends also did the same, we all got bottles to go. Usually we don't all like a place equally and get bottles. This place, we all loved it and wanted bottles! I honestly can't wait to come back in the future that way I can try more of their wines! Have enjoyed Joyce Pinot noir that I've bought at markets. The Safeway in Carmel valley sells it. So I made the mandatory reservation required for a tasting session at their place. Arrived on a Friday afternoon to discover about 300 people on the patio that Joyce shares with another winery. We investigated the situation for 3 minutes and decided to bail because the giant music sound system was turned up to 11. It was so loud I couldn't hear my spouse talking from 2 feet away even though she was practically shouting. From the looks of the crowd this is not a sophisticated adult wine tasting destination, it's a wine guzzling rowdy party scene. Not my thing. If you are the polar opposite bizzaro world version of me and love to get wasted with a giant crowd at spring break, consider this a 5 star review. read more

Joyce Wine = Love. I'm disappointed in myself for not trying their wine earlier. I've been missing out. I went in for a flight tasting and just about all the wines on the list were tasty. The Cabernet was my favorite! Apart from their great wine, their staff is very friendly and knowledgeable on the wine and the winery. I learned a lot about them! Their tasting room is not super big but it's a decent size and has various rooms you can go to so everyone is not crammed into one tasting room. Plus, they also have an outdoor area and a you can order food there (balance out all that wine drinking)! I really liked one of their spaces, perfect to host a bridal shower or birthday dinner. The winery has a rustic & chic feel to it. Overall, a lovely time drinking some nice wine. Because of my experience I will be returning! read more

This is for sure the most modern winery around Carmel Valley. I was recommended to come here by a wine expert and besides the ambiance I really enjoyed my tasting here. While you sip red and whites the soundtrack will be playing The Killers or Kooks, so how could anyone not like it? I specially liked their Cabernet Sauvignon and bought a bottle to take home. The person who attended us was super rude. We were there just after Christmas and it wasn't busy. ( No one was tasting at the same time). She was pretty mean with the pours -I'm talking about less than a mouthful per taste. She pretty much ignored us throughout the time BUT she did let us know she had travelled to Australia????? Very disappointed with the experience. We purchased 3 bottles but then she told us if we bought another one, the tasting charges would be dropped. ( I was there with my husband). Ummmmmm....we ended up buying another bottle and quite frankly the Pinot's were pretty average. Went to the Joyce Winery wine tasting room in Carmel Valley today with my sisters and asked to taste the Albariño before buying a bottle along with a bottle of the Rose. Do not go here for customer service as the employee was rude and annoyed at us. The woman employee there said she did not have an open bottle and would not give us a taste. She proceeded to try to explain the taste of the wine to me. Sorry but that is not a wine tasting experience I would expect from Carmel! I asked whether this was actually a tasting room and she just stared at me blankly. We bought the wine anyway which I regret completely and when I asked for my receipt she was visibly annoyed that she had to go in the back to get it. We then went to another's local wine tasting place (I Brand) and spent close to $700 as they gave us a fun and informative experience. Sorry Joyce Winery...you should strive for better employees to represent your business. read more

Loved this place! First time visiting Carmel Valley and our first stop was Joyce. Came here after our server at a different winery recommended this place the previous night, and totally glad we took his recommendation! Super cute location with tons of outdoor seating, which is so convenient with all this COVID madness. The girl who first helped us out was super sweet and friendly (wish I would've caught her name but she had long blonde hair and super bubbly personality), and let us try some wine before we settled for the bottle we had originally chosen. The Rosé always sells out quickly and there is no doubt why, if you happen to have the privilege to come across it, you will be amazed. The Pinots are Moderately light cherry red color in the glass, the robust fruit flavors. The finish is largely driven by brooding red fruit and smooth tannins. Their Pinot really opens up beautifully ...problem is, it doesn't last very long in your glass! It's so delicious. The wine house offers delicious pairings to Joyce wines. The service was great, the view was incredible, the wine was so awful that we did a five wine tasting in 25 minutes. It would have been less had we not been waiting on each pour. We took one sip of each wine and had to dump the rest. Nearly all the wines were from 2019 so they were immature and sour. It was undrinkable. Four people couldn't drink the wine. What a gem of a find! I spent the weekend in Carmel Valley for a friends wedding and we had a little time to burn before the wedding so, what better way to spend it tasting wine, right!? Anyway, the tasting room staff was super friendly and because I'm an industry person was able to jump around from their two different menu options. I was really surprised at the quality of single vineyard Pinot Noirs and how much they reminded me of gevrey chambertain from burgundy. Really pretty pinots! I also really enjoyed the Gamay Noir based rosé because it's not a varietal you find planted often in the states. It was killer! All of the wines were fairly priced and the tastings were comped if you bought two bottles...I can home with a case, whoops ;) Check em out. This place is amazing! If you are visiting Monterey or Carmel come and see them. It is connected to a wine bar and another tasting room. I'm from Napa and the wines here are sooooo unique! Every wine is soooo flavorful but not overpowering. The ambiance is amazing and calm and just an amazing time. Sam was an amazing host and was very kind, knowledgeable and attentive. This place is a must visit!!!! We came in for a weekend get away and the experiences we've had in Napa can feel very commercial. This place was authentic, and it was nice to just learn more about wine, growing in Monterey county and the overall history surrounding wine making here. Everyone goes to Napa for wine tasting although if you haven't ever done it in Monterey I strongly suggest you give it a try. You won't be disappointed! read more

We were a bit disappointed that they were not pouring the reserve wines on the day we visited the Joyce tasting room (mid-week). The tasting room is large and comfortable. Quite inviting. Plenty of space for an event or party. While the young woman pouring was pleasant enough, I never got the sense that she really "knew" wine. For $10 we had our choice of 6 of the 7 wines on the menu. Not a bad price, although the pours seemed small. As a bonus we did get to taste one reserve wine that was open. All in all the wines we tasted were okay, but not remarkable. Price of one tasting is waived when purchasing two bottles. But there was nothing we really wanted. Maybe on another day, although with so many choices in Carmel Valley Village, I am not sure we will return anytime soon. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for the first time two weeks ago for a late anniversary. The customer service was amazing! We were greeted from the moment we walked in. No pretentious vibes here at all. Our hostess was very nice and even when there was a delay between tastings she was quick to notice and did great recovery. I'm a Pinot fan and they have an amazing selection there. I was pleasantly surprised with their Rose and Chardonnay as well. After we finished our tasting and purchased our bottles we went right next door for beer and small bites. I came to this winery with my husband yesterday. The minute we walked in, the male caucasian server greeted us with "just to let you know, we'll be closing in 30 minutes" To which we responded, "okay, we won't be long" then we get to the counter and I say "winetasting for two" he proceeds to pour a couple of wineglasses and gives us a bit of history about the wine. I have no problem with this, we like to learn about the history of the wines etc etc. About six minutes after we arrived, a caucasian couple walks in and are NOT greeted the same way as were!(we're latino, by the way). They were not told "just to let you know, we'll be closing in 20 minutes" on the contrary, the server asks " will you be sharing the glass?" mind you, their tasting fee is $18 but is waived with a $60 bottle purchase. So of course the gal says yes and they share the tasting. We felt we were discriminated and it is not okay! Treat everyone with the same respect they deserve!!Needless to say, we did not purchase any wine and paid $40 for our tasting and still decided to let the server keep the $4 change because we figured we'd teach him a lesson on how you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover. Just because we're latino doesn't mean we don't have money and are uneducated. Matter of fact, we're both college graduates doing very well for ourselves. I will gladly share my unpleasant experience about this racist winery to my colleagues and friends. read more

My girlfriends and I do biannual trips to Sonoma/Napa and diverted to Carmel/Monterey due to the fires. We were so pleasantly surprised when the wine was equally delicious and the service was also top notch. I loved ALL of their wines and we left with many bottles and a wine club membership! Not a bad place at all! The lack of two more stars is for the rude woman with brown hair who served us today. She said "we don't revisit unless you will buy". Worst customer service I have ever received. We even ended up buying 4 bottles and she was so rude when we wanted to revisit two of the wines before purchasing. This is not how you retain clients or get someone to purchase wine. Every other winery we visited were so pleasant. The wine at this winery did not have good reds at all. The whites were decent, which is why we purchased the bottles, but also to shut up the rude woman. Testarossa definitely takes the cake for BEST wine and even better customer service. They are right next store and do not cringe over more pours or people buying bottles. Take my advice, avoid Joyce and go next store to testarossa. read more
