I got a haircut there today and the guy who cut my hair, Duane, I believe is about 90 years young and had some interesting stories. He did a nice job but the place looks disgusting. A REAL barber shop that's a time-capsule straight out of the 1960s! That's when Don and his wife Patsy started cutting hair in Holmes Beach. I started going in 2002 when I saw a guy on the island with a PERFECT flattop. I had to try it and he sent me to Don. I've been going ever since. This is a "guy" place. I think Patsy has some loyal women customers at her chair in the back, but pretty much this is for the boys. If you (or your sons) have only had haircuts in shopping mall unisex boutiques you owe yourself a visit to experience what men's barber shops used to be like. Piles of old magazines, friendly conversation, island gossip, hot foam and a bizarre collection of barbering memorabilia that goes back before even I was born (and I'm as old as dirt). This is a manly mans shop. Old, dirty, don't care man cave. My cut didn't require any styling. Install the number 4 guide and go at it. Finished up with the lather and neck shave. Three barbers and all have probably been cutting longer than you've been alive. read more

The place was super low key, vintage and not very clean, but the tools used were carefully sanitized and so I had no concerns. I'm a black female with curly short hair and so it was a bit of an experiment for me. I was pleasantly surprised at the speed and efficiency with which Brian did my hair. He listened to what I wanted and followed through confidently all while keeping up a steady stream of friendly conversation. Willing to give recommendations of local nightlife and places to eat.
