From bandaids to food wrappers to hair ties to grocery bags -- it's all in the sand. The play structures are old. In looking at photos, they are at least a decade old and it shows. Things are weathered and warped. The grassy areas are very nice. There are lots of paved paths. The parking lot is really big. There is a small area of covered patio tables, and there are a lot of benches. Oh, and there are bees. In fact, there are signs warning about the bees. Not great for kids.

I really liked how the rec center provided 4 nets & all these pickleballs! This is the first time I've seen a rec center provide SO MANY balls. I really liked that the court outlines were clear and one singular color. It makes it way less confusing. I also liked that there's plenty of room for running/getting between baselines and the benches. Also loved that they used benches instead of bleachers. NO MORE PAINFUL clawing under bleachers/peoples' feets for smashed balls that rolled underneath. The wait gets pretty long here (prob 25-30min/game and you only get to play up to 8 when there is a crowd. Winners stay and can play up to 2 games (they split off in the second game). I like this system, as it balances out the skill set. Everyone faithfully honored this system, and would get out after their 2 games.

With the male who took over management of the place after about a year there were scented plug ins in the gym area as well. I wrote to him asking for them to be taken out as people are working out for health and now there are known carcinogens in a small closed up space. No response, no removal... there is even an air purifier in there for people going to the gym that don't like smelling "the air if people working out" really no need to make people sick with plug-ins. ‍ oh wellll

First come first serve, bring your own net. Although, there always seems to be a full house. The only time I've seen it empty was on an overcast afternoon. Indoors: there are also three courts lined over the ball court. The center supples the three nets and balls. Lots of rec centers make you bring your own balls. Staff are prompt at starting/ending open play. For schedules, google Carmel Mtn Rec open gym. Times vary. I enjoy playing indoors more than outdoors bc 1) no wind 2) if I fall, it doesn't hurt as much 3) no sun 4) feels easier on the feet/legs/body. The indoor lines are not the easiest to read. You definitely have to play a few times before you get used to it. The outdoor courts are also not great bc there's a slant in the pavement. Feels like there isn't that much room to move around in certain sides of the court.

This passover I decided to go as a "civilian" -- just have my seder there. And once again the Chabad of Poway stood out as a wonderful place: that turned out to be the BEST seder I've ever gone to and I've had many wonderful seders growing up with my family in New Haven, CT, and then over the years in San Diego and Tijuana. Rabbi Mendel Goldstein is a superb and charismatic rabbi and educator. With his joy and energy he truly made the story of Passover come alive (often at seders it can zzzzzzzzzzzzzz someone as it's almost done by rote), peppered with audience participation, and lots of humor. The food was the most deliciious I've had at a seder. Instead of the (dreaded) Manischewitz wine you could choose between several wines on the table, kosher American wines and Kosher Italian wines (and maybe one I missed). One of the Italian kosher wines was so great that I ordered some online. Add to that the wonderful family atmosphere. I was raised Reform and my sister and I often talk about how when we were growing up services almost seemed to be done by rote. Not here. In every way this was a joyous, vibrant, delicious Passover. What better way to keep Passover's meaning, tradition and celebration alive?

Was impressed immediately walking in as they had a great open courtyard with a cool grid that reflected on the ground. This would be a great event space. The library had high ceilings like skylights making it light and bright. Within 10 minutes my husband ( the avid book reader and curiosity seeker) found 3 books of interest. I was interested in the esthetics look of the place, the nice geometric carpeting. Lots of quiet work spaces and a very open design. The staff was very helpful, plus they had a seperate "friends of the library bookstore" with its own entrance outside the main library. Oh and a ton of DVD 's to check out. More then I've ever seen at a library. Wish some of that space went to CD's ( we are old achool). Now we have library to add to our location.

I had to find a way to post a review of the league because it is without question, the WORST experience I've ever had in a rec basketball league (and I've played in most in the SD area). They are without doubt the worst run league in San Diego county. The officiating is consistently awful - in multiple cases we had to explain the rules TO THE OFFICIAL. What's worse, they show clear favoritism to those in the league (same 2 teams every season) where the officials have personal relationships with some of the players, and ZERO consistency from week to week, or from team to team in terms of how they call the game. Im not usually one to complain about bad officiating, but with these guys it's sooo atrocious that it almost has to be intentional. I've seen plenty of poorly officiated games and leagues before, but I've never before felt cheated as I did after one season in this league. These guys are incompetent and I would highly recommend that those seeking a good adult mens basketball league seek elsewhere. I know for myself I will never again give them a single red cent of my money. If I could give a zero star review I would.
