The layout of the church like a cross with beautiful Spanish-style arches. I love how big the property is and the beautiful Blessed Mother statue at the top of the hill. They have a church hall that can also accommodate events like wedding receptions. The priest was very welcoming and friendly. And the wedding coordinator was wonderful. The organist played and sang beautifully. This is a wonderful Catholic Church in Poway and I would love to visit again when I'm in the area.

For example, a friend who has asthma respectfully requested that incense for the Triduum be done in an appropriate, but "lighter" way, so she could attend. She loves the Triduum, and attending means a great deal to her. The pastor flatly refused. She was heartbroken and practically in tears at his insensitive treatment of her. She has been an active member of this parish practically her whole life. I could easily cite other examples of negative things happening at this parish. The interim pastor should be gone in a few months, but the damage is being done and may not be so easy to reverse. AMDG.

Don't be lured by the bright lights and awesome music. Because underneath it is the most prideful, country club church I've ever and painfully experienced. The pastors care about their European vacations and vuori clothes and the amount of money you give. When you stop giving, you will get a phone call. When you reach out with concerns, they may or may not get back to you and say something like "we are proud of what we are doing at CRB. " It's more about what you wear and what you look like and the cliques you will never be a part of. I don't write this to hurt the church. I write this to urge people to run. Run far, far away from this place and find a bible loving christian church that embraces you with open arms, where you grow closer to God and where souls are saved. Run to place that when you need prayer, they will stop what they are doing and pray. Run from a place where the sermons are about how great they are and not about how great God is. I pray this church humbled themselves and repents.

I have been attending this church for a while and first of all want to say that the address listed…read moreis correct, but the church is meeting at Mira Mesa High School, using the parking lot on Mira Mesa Blvd. The Reagan Road parking lot is usually locked by the school, and if you park there you have to wander around the school looking for the theater where the church meets. Now for the review... I LOVE this church. I love the people, the pastor and his wife, and the teaching that this church offers. But, for this review I will try to be unbiased and tell you about the format of the church and what you can expect. The church starts at 10:30 on Sunday in the theater of the Mira Mesa High School. There is always enough parking in the main parking lot on Mira Mesa Blvd, and if you park in the Reagan parking lot you will have to walk around to the Mira Mesa Blvd side since the High School usually keeps those gates locked. There is a School of Discipleship class that meets at 9:30 before church on Sunday, and the topics of the class change periodically. The church starts with singing together, including the kids, from songs that are traditional hymns with contemporary music to more up beat music. The kids are then dismissed to their classes, and people greet each other. After they greet each other an assistant pastor, Rob, who works mostly with High Schoolers, makes a few announcements and prays. Then the pastor talks about the Bible, reading scripture which is also printed in a bulletin and on a projector screen. He gives practical sermons that are easy to understand. After the church service there is a nice time to meet and talk to other people at the church, and since the church is only about 100 people large (including kids) you really get to meet others and people quickly recognize you as new and want to welcome you. It really is a neat group of people, at a variety of ages and diversity: singles, young families, families of jr. high/high schoolers, and some people who have kids in college, single moms, military families, and so on. There is a High School Group associated with Young Life and a Jr High Group that meets during the middle of the week. There are also other small groups that meet at people's houses in the middle of the week to talk about the Bible together, and most of them are welcome to kids attending, and there is a women's Bible study that meets and they have two babysitters to help with the kids. There is a group called Celebrate Recovery that although it sounds like it is for addiction problems (think AA) it really is for everyone that has some habit or hang up in their life that they want to change, and this group is a support in that journey. The love and truth at this church is refreshing and uplifting, a true reflection of what God has designed his church to be. If you are looking for a place to visit, or for a new church to attend this would be a great place. From the moment we walked up, we were warmly greeted, given a quick tour, and introduced to other members. Within the first 30 minutes of that first service, my wife and I looked at each other and said, "This is going to be our home church." I've never once felt judged here--neither for how I look nor for my past. Pastor Jerry and Pastor Tami have impacted our family's life in ways that are hard to put into words. The church also uses the Church Center app, which makes it easy to sign up for small groups and stay connected with upcoming events. Our family highly recommends this church. It has truly become home for us.

They say they live by the Bible. However, do NOT ever question it or quote the scriptures that contradict what they teach. I made that mistake and I was literally escorted out of the service by Pastor Nick and Pastor Gabe and told that I am no longer welcome to attend. Never in my life have I ever been kicked out of a church for asking questions. I mean isn't that the job of the pastors, to teach!? It was utterly ridiculous and embarrassing. What is even more shocking is the lead pastor taught on forgiveness about 2 weeks prior but apparently that doesn't apply to everyone. I do NOT recommend this church. Pastor Bob is a laid back guy with a gift to preach great sermons. There's always lots of laughter and thoughtfulness during his sermons. It's quite easy to come if you're alone (as I've done many times). No one pressures you to fill out anything, or to tithe, or to really 'mingle'. They welcome you and let you do what you feel comfortable which I really appreciated when I first visited. A few great things about this church: 1. Their women's bible study is awesome. A great way to meet your fellow church mates and to learn more about the bible. . 2. You are required to take a Core Class 101 to become a member of the church. I really liked this b/c it gives you a chance to meet all the other new ppl who have a genuine desire to become part of the church. Pastor Bob personally teaches this class. 3. Tithing. They don't pass around satchels for you to drop in your tithe. You simply drop off the tithe in one of the sealed column containers after the sermon. I have a feeling that this will be church I grow with and I'm happy to say that actually. My previous church felt huge and daunting. Yeah, I was raised "conveniently" Catholic, which is my way of saying that we went to church a few times a year when I was young, mostly on religious holidays, but our attendance slowed to a trickle in later years settling for a prayer at the dinner table as a sufficient substitute. In the same breath, my older brother jumped headfirst back into the church a few years ago and because of that we celebrated his wedding at San Rafael Parish. I will say that it's an incredibly bizarre feeling to attend a six person wedding in a massive space like this, but 2021 is still making up for 2020's shortcomings and gatherings still seem like a bad idea. So, our tiny family of six was joined by the Monsignor, a piano player, a singer, a photographer, and an employee that webcasted the ceremony to Australia, my sister-in-law's homeland. Everything was perfect. Everything was sincere. Everything was beautiful. Thanks San Rafael Parish for opening your doors to my brother and his bride on their special day and giving them the religious wedding that they were really looking forward to.
