I told her so, and now I want to share with you. She welcomed me even though she was behind merchandise, probably organizing as I saw her doing throughout the store. Missy was very informative and honest with her experience and products I was questioning. She was knowledgeable about current sales and program. I saw different spring items in the store and bought a lemon air freshener gel (which I don't recall ever calling such a gel) to lightly improve my bathroom.

When I paid, her first comment was along the lines of how "barely anyone pays with cash anymore." Already, the vibe was off. Then, she asked where I was from. After I informed her I grew up in the local area, she immediately started rambling about her neighbors from India. It was completely inappropriate, micro-aggressive, and made me wonder if she subjects all people of color to this kind of treatment. To make matters worse, I had to return to the store because I was shorted an item due to a system error. The store was nearly empty, but I could immediately tell she was heated and just wanted me gone. I brought an item to exchange and asked about stock for a few others, which is a standard request for a store employee. Instead of helping, her tone got meaner and her voice grew so loud that it felt like I was being reprimanded just for asking questions. She literally started yelling at me. I could see the hate in her eyes, and it took everything in me not to react disrespectfully back to her. Out of pure exhaustion, I gave up and only exchanged half the value of my item. This was hands-down the worst shopping experience I've ever had. If you're looking for similar items but prefer a classy environment where the staff actually welcomes you, I highly recommend going to Charles Mayer & Company instead.

What's even more frustrating is that some of the staff suddenly become very courteous, friendly, and professional when upper management is present. They're engaging, helpful, and attentive when the "big wigs" are around. However, the moment leadership leaves, the atmosphere changes completely. Employees gather near the registers talking among themselves while customers are left standing in long lines with the slowest cashier handling everything alone. I personally experienced this during a return. A manager initially said she would assist me, but then claimed she couldn't complete the transaction because she didn't have a till for a debit card exchange. I ended up waiting 15-20 minutes, while she continued assisting other customers. The interaction was rude, unprofessional, and very unpleasant. It's discouraging when you come to spend your money at a business and can't receive even basic customer service, let alone professionalism in the workplace. Again, the clothing selection and value are good, but the lack of professionalism and poor customer service from staff make the experience frustrating and disappointing. For instance, the shoe area had single shoes hanging out with pairs of shoes that looked like they had been worn by customers who came in and decided they didn't want their shoes anymore, and so they just put on the shelf. Next to this was clothing that was hung up on a rack, but there was no rhyme or reason to the organization. Swim suits with football padding with pajama pants with toddler outfits. The clothing area is where I decided to just let go and let God, but then I looked at the prices and almost laughed out loud. Not Bulldog Liquidators trying to sell me a Target blouse for $10! Anyway. They do have a lot of furniture here, which I think is the big draw. I saw some decent bureaus and tables and things. Also some ottomans and a nice gaming chair that I almost considered. After taking to some people who like Bulldog Liquidators, I think people come here to get discounted food and health/hygiene supplies, like pads and diapers. They will sell open packages of pads that have just one pad removed at a steep discount. That's nice. But I think for the uninitiated, Bulldog is just a mess, and I'd rather spend a couple of dollars more to shop at a place that is more organized. And the prices are not really discounted, compared to the quality of items that are in the store.

The remainder of the store has a unique layout, with this being the first Meijer in the area to be grocery-centered. They do not sell clothing, sporting good, etc. like other Meijer locations.
