Having come here with my family to celebrate a special occassion. We had dinner at the restaurant. I only recall poor service from the past few visits, which makes me feel less likely to go back. Multiply staff here seems to have dental issues, i have never been in any place served by so many staff with such bad smell from their mouth. A members only dinner and drinking club. Was invited by a member and found it to be lovely, quiet enough to hear each other yet busy enough to feel lively. Prices are not exorbitant, unless you get caviar, which I never will. It was about 100 on the menu. Sides were about 4 quid. Mains were around 14-30. I had tea and some spinach. The club itself is lovely. I entered as a guest. Imagine a very posh large living, connected to other large posh living rooms. It's a big club for sure. It's comfortable, warm, the staff are friendly. The tea was nice. The vibe was very relaxed and social. Turns out they also have a gym! I didn't use it, but I've heard good things. read more

I was first introduced to swanky Home House in 2005 when I was living in London by a former butler of this refined establishment which serves as a private club that is as well a hotel and restaurant for discerning travelers. Designed for Elizabeth, the Countess of Home in 1777, Home House stands as one of Scottish neo-classical architect Robert Adam's finest examples of a smart London Townhouse. Each room carries the distinctive Adam trademarks of balance and color, and the spiraling Italian marble staircase -- one of two imported from Italy by Adam to England (the other stands in Old College at the University of Edinburgh) with a glass domed ceiling creates the feel of stately elegance for both casual and formal affairs. Each room at Home House has been meticulously restored (not remodeled) to original Adam plan, while many have been updated to provide all the amenities expected in a fine private British club. The garden patio is covered with tents on humid summer days, my favorite spot for a visit to Home House and time of year. To be biased, with all that said, my review of Home House has to do with its Cheese Burgers. Yes, Home House could have finished the multi-million pound restoration and turned its nose up towards visitors with boring bloating menu items, but instead these wonderful people chose to let their hair down and provide a menu and atmosphere that is fun, welcoming, and affordable. The finest Cheeseburger in all of London (and this is coming from a guy from San Francisco used to Niman Ranch Beef) served on a buttered and toasted bun with carmelised onions and a dash of Grey Poupon Mustard -- delicious! The chips (french fries) were lightly salted and the service from the bar was impeccable. The full bar, wine and beer list and appetizers ensure that everyone can find themselves at home. I think Home House is a bit of a quandary -- it attracts those who are looking to be noticed, and those like myself, who come for the ambience and amenities. It is one of my favorite places in all of the world. For a study of Adam neo-classical architecture while dining on London's best cheeseburger, Home House is not to be missed. read more

Home House had a food stall at the Baker Street Quarter Food Market at Portman Square. They did BBQ boxes, with merguez, lamb chop and some quinoa salad. All in all quite a nice experience, especially with such an amazing May weather. The portions were not really big, but the food was quite tasty. The waiting time was a bit too long. I am lucky enough to have a friend with membership who took me here last Friday for drinks and dinner. It doesn't look a lot from the outside, but it's nestled in the corner of Portman Square, which gives it a great view (I'll come on to that later.) We walked in to a beautiful, but not huge hall, that led to a gorgeous double staircase. We climbed up to the first floor and started to look for a table in the beautiful drawing rooms. It truly is a labyrinth - we walked through gorgeous room after room, each slightly different to the last. There was one where they were preparing a jazz singer for some evening entertainment. We finally settled in one where there was an empty sofa and table. We were next to a smartly dressed, older woman who was asleep on her sofa. That's the thing that I really noticed - everyone seemed fairly normal. I mean, they were all "white middle class normal" ;-) but they weren't too pretentious, or trendy, or young or trust fund rich. We had a couple of gasses of wine (they had viognier by the glass, I was so happy!) and some bar snacks that came with the wine. We took our time and then asked about tables available in the two restaurants. We were hoping to go the pan-asian Octagon restaurant that used to be the lady of the house's boudoir, but that was fully booked. So we settled on the rather obviously named "The Restaurant". We had to walk down the stairs, through to another house and back up to 'The Restaurant'. It really is a bit of a rabbit warren, but as long as you remember your gps device, you should be ok. The Restaurant is beautiful and we got a great table right at the front with the most amazing view of the square - it's so green and leafy at this time of year, and as the sun was setting it ended up looking like a very very beautiful garden. Pity I was there with a female friend really - although the whole thing really was so romantic that she might have got lucky if I had had another glass of wine! We invested all our meal into one course and went for the steak. Oh my, was that a good decision! It was absolutely delicious, with chunky, crispy chips, a tomato and a mushroom - plus the spinach we had ordered on the side. We ate the whole thing, even though we probably shouldn't have. It was spectacular and the red wine that the waiter suggested we try went perfectly with the meal. We couldn't even contemplate a coffee after that, we were so stuffed, yet very very happy! I would certainly jump at the chance to come back here - I'd love to try the Octagon restaurant. read more

We in da club a bottle full of: Black champagne and a cheeseburger? That's how I roll. I accompanied my two pals here (members) and am very glad I did. A wonderful time spent relaxing at happy hour in a little sitting area (there are many, and many were full), enjoying a glass of champagne + that glorious "black champagne" (not as dark as it sounds, merely made with blackberry puree, mmm) -- and a delightful cheeseburger with chips that kick you back to all the good things about McDonald's. I kid, I kid, but the size/texture and salt content surely did bring up memories of the little red box. And this is not a bad thing, by any stretch. Oh, and its dog-friendly! read more

This is a private members club located in central London. I was invited as a guest and had a look around. I must say I have not been a fan of the private club scene but this place has truly change my mind. This place has a great deal to offer: 1)Bar wise it has two bars both of which play excellant music; 2) there is a gym and a spa; 3) the dining apparently is wonderful; and 4) the rooms are utterly gorgeous. Prices are not outrageous, and it makes for a truly impressive and unforgettable experience. lounge music, downstairs, the spa looks definitely used, the bars in the other areas playing eclectic music and beautiful people sipping their cocktails or dining and carrying on their business in the cool patio under the heating lamps and the candle glows. not sure about membership costs. I'm not a member here but I've met one for a few meetings, and I love it. Unlike most of the media crowd's favourite members clubs, this is a little set back, a little more up market, even dare I say, a little more traditional (in its decor at least). They're pretty old school on the door (you use a PEN and PAPER to sign in, fancy that), but are both polite and professional when welcoming you in. You could get lost without proper directions, so make sure you know the layout or have a specific location of where to meet. It's not cheap, but I'd expect nothing less from a members club. Maybe that's unfair, but you get what you pay for; a place you feel comfortable relaxing, working and discussing business openly without the fear of prying eyes. Lunchtime, the food is great and in the evening, they play fantastic music downstairs at the bar (a place I once spent an entire evening wasting away quite happily). Always my first recommendation to anyone with a bit of cash to spend, looking for a private place to use as a bolt-hole. read more

Private club - lots of space, great furniture, excellent place to hang out and relax. I wouldn't oversell this place as "glamorous," but it's very nice, impressive in that it's labyrinthian, laid-back, and the drinks are very, very, very strong. Some outdoor space for nice nights. Its less of a scene than its main competitors, and more of a place to go with friends, which I definitely like. Other than the dance floor, it's relatively quiet and there's space to spread out. We were fortunate to be invited and with no preconceptions (i'd not heard about it before the visit) this turned out to be one of our best evenings out for a very long time. A nice quality place that feels like being at home (funnily enough) with friends. The advantage here is a great bar and a fantastic restaurant with a really wide selection of wine, desert wine and after dinner drinks! Personally the two Grappas were unnecessary and most likely contributed to the rather huge hangover the next day. The Staff were unobtrusive and tolerant of their slightly drunk guests. Before I went to Home House, I was totally against the idea of paying membership fee to join a private club. After going there for a couple of times for events, I understand why people would pay the fee. However, I am still not ready to shell out any cash yet. The property is gorgeous with 3 different houses and a nice garden, which is lovely to hang out at in the summer time. The house bar is very contemporary with sweeping lines and metallic finishes, a bit space-age. I love all the lounges in the house. It seems there are endless rooms with comfortable couches that you can just chill out. The house also comes with a gym and members can use the lounges to hold meetings or just as an out-of-home office. Actually, if you have the flexibility to work anywhere you want and the time to work out a lot, the membership fee is well worth the benefit. And it is a good place to socialize and meet fellow members. read more

It was a bit hard to find at first since I didn't see a sign, but I kept a look out for the number 20. Had afternoon tea here with a group of 16 people. Really good, warm, toasty scones (I don't even like scones normally!), delicious sandwiches, and lovely pastries. Was a guest this evening of magazine publishers for dinner and drinks. I usually turn my nose down at the "private club" snootiness of the Groucho, Sloan or other London private clubs, I must say, Home House lived up to its reputation as being hip, friendly, allowing ladies full reign, is multi-racial and defines a new elite in London society based on what you achieve not just who you are or who you are related to. Fabulous food, wine, service and it's drop dead gorgeous. I felt so privileged..... Fabulous hosting from Tanya at The Oyster Club at Home House last week, we had a spot of networking and indulged in some true champagne-fuelled decadence talking about Oscar Wilde while devouring nibbles at such a glamourous location. We had some mixed platters with chorizo, dips and veg, fish goujons, chunky potato chips, thai chicken skewers etc. Everything was tasty and filling (we needed food to soak up all that champagne!). I am so pleased I got invited to the event otherwise I would never have had the opportunity to go to Home House, which I walked past several times as I work in the area but being a member club I thought I would never be allowed in! Smashing decor, I loved everything at Home House from the wallpaper to the paintings, furniture, lamp shades... even the toilets were the epitome of glamour! Thumbs up all around. read more

I came here for an event recently and well, I've fallen a bit in love with this place. I'm not one for private clubs. I figured once you're in, it's just a very expensive bar and everyone is trying to work out how you can afford the membership. I clearly can't so I feel a bit out of place. But I do enjoy being invited and being spoilt rotten. The building is stunning. Really beautiful. I wish it was still a house. That would be amazing. Every inch of the space has been put to good use. There's loads of rooms here, so there's loads of little sneaky function places. Clever. I lost count of the amount of bars. I was busy drinking the bubbly and eating the canapes. More of the quail and celeriac things please. Yummy. There's an outside little terrace for pesky smokers like myself and the staff are friendly. Even when I was lost and tipsy. I stayed here far too late, felt far too hungover the next day and really really want to come back. read more

Hard to explain if you haven't been there; lots of rooms on lots of floors stuffed with art and nice classical furniture, staffed by very smart people who look you in the eye and call you sir. Home House is a beautiful place. Stunning artwork, decadent surroundings, delicious detail and lovely views through huge windows over Portman Square. It has all the elegance and charm that old private members dining clubs had, once upon an era gone, and an air of exclusivity lingers. I do believe there's a saucy side to this quintessential club though. Throughout various visits, stories unfold of discreet rendezvous' between guests in the luxurious, and somewhat hidden communal bathrooms; and some evenings, there is definitely an air of naughtiness about the place! It's not serious and stuffy, more saucy and eccentric if you spend enough time there to pick up on it! Food can be very good, although a recent Sunday lunch was a bit of a let down due to the chewiness of the beef. Staff are generally on the ball, but good fun. They clearly have the vibe of this place all worked out! I have a friend who works from here 2/3 days each week. I'm not sure I'd get very much done to be honest, the people and the vibe would be too much of a distraction, but the social side would be exciting, no doubt. read more

My absolute favorite hotel in the world. I've grown up in Home House. I was first taken to Home house when I was 7 years old for an Alice in Wonderland themed party, I was Alice. I've lost count of how many times I have stayed there, let alone been there. When living in London I am there once a week. It's a private members club. I'm not a member but my friend is and am there constantly. The staff are so lovely and personal. They know all their guests and really take care of them. It is in the best location, right behind Selfridges on Oxford St I remember my stay recently, a few months ago. I called down round 3 am asking if there was a late night menu. The front desk said there wasn't but he could go make me a sandwich. I told him not to bother and that it wasn't a problem. I received a call a few minutes later from the front desk saying that he had left the sandwich, salad and some fresh orange juice outside our door. He didn't knock since we had the "do not disturb sign" on our door. It was the nicest thing in the world. Every room is different with its own name. My favorite room is probably Lady Islington which has a massive marble bathroom, it's purely a scene from a movie. I could write pages about Home House but you really have to go see and experience it for yourself; and what an experience it is. read more

I love the artwork, the age of the place, the winding turns and twists it takes to get everywhere, and even the ambiance one of the old time special members gives at the bar. He is so flamboyantly perfect he makes Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen look like a football hooligan. There's a secret passageway to the garden. To get there we have to go through the door marked "ladies". If you are a gentleman, be very careful indeed to make sure you aren't going into an actual ladies room! The art is especially fine. The hangings change regularly. The current installations are evocative of other works. One is a series of pictures of Alice in Wonderland in the style of John Tenniel. This Alice's wonderland is the current tumble of MPs and press and lobbyists that bedeck the parliamentary halls of today. All the characters are drawn and dressed as if they were within Tenniel's version of Wonderland. Someone following politics could in all likelihood put names to the many faces I see in this Looking Glass to another world. The other is a series that start with a well known portraiture from the past, ones I recognize but don't recall the name of the artist or the painting, done in new dark shifting surroundings. These trappings around the famous faces make the people in them seem ephemeral and far away as indeed they are given how far away in the past the original portraits were done. I like the bar and the spicy sweet nuts they give us alongside our drinks. They give a good oomph that surprises me. We go from the bar to one of the dining areas and are treated to the bread basket. The bread is all handmade and there are so many lovely varieties I have two of them, a slice of the whole wheat walnut and a slice of the garlic white. It's a good thing I took both as conversations linger and take a long time before my tablemates order their meals. The butter room temperature making it soft to perfectly compliment the bread. I choose a salmon ceviche with plenty of fresh lemon to squeeze atop. I squeeze it on the side instead as there is a big spoonful of horseradish Chantilly that I am unsure if it will go well with the lemon. I am unsure because of course everyone knows that the citric acid in the lemon juice can cause milk to curdle. I am safe. The Chantilly manages to avoid disintrigation perhaps due to being made from heavy cream and sugar. Every fork lifted to my mouth has a bit of the vivid pink and white. Every bite has the flavours of cream, salmon, lemon, and hints of horseradish which lift me to heaven. The rib eye steak is succulent and tender. The hollandaise is on the side so the folks at the table can have as much or as little as they like. I like it very much and help myself to some more when it runs out. The accompaniments are a whole roasted tomato and shoestring French fries. These sides are a bit nondescript. The fries in particular could just as be from McDonalds. If the worst thing that happens to me today is that the kitchen thought would be a right spiffy juxtaposition to dress a fabulous steak down with ordinary fries, then bless their hearts, I take the fries gladly. Last course is a little glass filled with a lemon posset and topped with a blueberry sauce. Possets aren't what they used to be in the Victorian era. Back then, it was just a hot milky drink. A present day posset is more of a mousse or custard and this one is quite a lovely modern one. The blueberries in the blueberry sauce have intense flavour that springs on the tongue when bit into. I bite into each one very happily and am over the moon with joy for the comingling of lemon and blueberry. It is a proper members club but the decor is not too staid and they recently redesigned the House Bar which is nothing short of futuristic and uber cool. Came here for a 'champagne and quality street' party (strange combination, but it worked very well!) and had an absolutely brilliant evening. Home House has the reputation of a slightly subdued old-ish crowd, but definitely not on this particular night! Lots of young people with a buzzy vibe and great outfits. The rooms here are wonderfully grand, a beautiful central staircase looms graciously over everything, and there's a real old world neo-classical vibe which is such a fantastic backdrop for a party. Lots of places to explore here, drawing rooms to read in, balconies to sip cocktails on with views over the garden, and just somewhere to get lost and have fun in for hours with the feeling of stepping back in time read more

The staff are extremely attentive and the cocktails are amazing. It gets a little sleazy on the dance floor on a Friday night, but otherwise you can be guaranteed to have a good night. read more

This is the single worst customer experience I have ever had in my life. EVER. Shame on these people. Having paid close to a grand ££ for a suite, only one key was made available and only one name listed on the ROOM, apparently, even though we listed two at checkin. When my companion decided to stay out late and I sought to check in, I was denied entry to the room (despite my credit card on file for the bill and my puppy being upstairs unattended) and I was treated in the absolute most rude manner imaginable. Staff actually thought it acceptable to insist I move to the nightclub and wait for my MIA friend, who was clearly not coming home that night. And stormed off during a reasonable argument about gaining entry to attend to the dog. Worst experience in my life and could not be more disgusted. Jessica Bacon read more

I worked with the Home House's Reservation Specialist, Shirlene. Shirlene was extremely friendly, helped me with all of my needs and even personally delivered the floral arrangement to the guests. The customer service I experienced was impeccable and based on that, I'd recommend the Home House to others. read more

I've practically moved in to the place over the last few months. great place - chilled and friendly and a fantastic cocktail list! Loadsa variations of bloody mary - one has tequila and another warm sake with wasabi. Strange but try going through the list of all 17 classic cocktails in one sitting. great fun!!!! read more
