My grandmother was admitted here for short term rehabilitation after a stroke. She was supposed to…read morestay about 20 days, but we chose to transfer her early because we did not feel she was receiving the level of care she needed. She became paralyzed on the left side of her body and came here specifically for therapy and rehabilitation to regain movement. During roughly 13 days at this facility, she only received therapy a few times. It reached the point where my family had to step in and do much of the work themselves like massaging her, helping move her limbs, applying lotion, changing her socks, and trying to keep her comfortable because staff did not seem to be attentive to these basic needs. For a rehab center, this was extremely disappointing. My grandmother is diabetic, non verbal after her stroke, and fully dependent on caregivers. We were told she would be checked every six hours, but this schedule did not feel appropriate for someone in such a vulnerable condition. She spent long periods bedridden and developed significant discomfort, especially from not being repositioned frequently. Watching her in pain was heartbreaking. There were also interactions with staff that felt unprofessional and dismissive when we asked for help or clarification. Instead of compassion, we were often met with rude tones or comments that made it seem as if our questions were an inconvenience. This made it very hard to trust that our grandmother was being treated with patience and respect. We also observed other concerning situations in the facility. For example, we repeatedly saw residents sitting uncomfortably in wheelchairs without assistance, including two residents who had to push each other because staff were not helping them. These kinds of things raised serious concerns about overall attentiveness and staffing. To be fair, not everyone here was uncaring. Michael, Wanda, and Becky consistently showed kindness and compassion toward my grandmother, and Wanda helped arrange additional care and testing when we voiced our concerns. We are truly grateful for them. Unfortunately, not all shifts had staff like them, and care depended too much on "who was working that day." Based on our experience, I would not recommend this facility for loved ones who cannot advocate for themselves or who are fully dependent on staff for movement and communication. Vulnerable patients deserve consistent, gentle, and attentive care, not minimal check ins and families doing the majority of the work. We ultimately transferred my grandmother to another center, where she is finally receiving the care she needs. I hope this facility seriously improves staff training, professionalism, and basic patient care, because the people who live here deserve better.

The nurses, CNAs, and therapy team treated me with kindness and respect. A special thank you to my physical therapist, Thi. She believed in me, encouraged me to push a little harder every day, and celebrated every bit of progress I made. There were days when I wanted to give up, but her patience, encouragement, and positive attitude kept me motivated. Because of her, I'm living stronger and more confident than when I arrived. I'm proud of the progress I've made, and I'm grateful to everyone at Houston Transitional Care for helping me on my recovery journey. Thank you for your compassion and dedication. Some of the…read morenurses don't care on how your loved one is they don't check up on them if you call they take forever to come check up on them me and my family had told them my dad couldn't eat on his own they didn't care they just went in to the room leave the plate and leave, today the nurse taking care of him I had called for him to get cleaned out she said she couldn't do it because she was passing breakfast she told him to eat and after she was going to clean him I called once he was done she came in with an attitude didn't say a word changed him and left. He had physical therapy come by today they took him brought him back next thing you know the nurse comes all mad shaking her head saying they told her something because he's not at dialysis when it's her job to take him, after he got back she put him in bed crushed his feet and didn't even say sorry after that she dumped the pee from his catheter spilling a lot on the floor and than she left, I called her back she come in raising her hands with an attitude asking what we want that she was coming back I asked her to heat up his lunch she left slammed the door came back the food is cold she left again once again slamming the door mind you almost all her shift she has been using her headphones blasting music loud that even I can hear it with the tv on, I also asked her for her name she didn't say it she had it covered so I wasn't able to get it. Another thing my dad uses oxygen and it's the third time they take it of and don't put it back on I've been doing it. There was another time where I saw this guy nurse taking him to get his dialysis they pick him up with a machine since he can't get up on his own he told my dad to hold on the bars and once he was in the chair to get the dialysis his arm was stuck in between the bars and the guy told my dad that why was he holding on to it and that's when I told him he had told him to hold on from there and he just laughed than he asked me if I speak both English and Spanish and I said yes and I told him I understand both maybe he thought I didn't

We are so lucky to have found The Abbey at Westminster Place. While some may say it is too pricy or only consider price when looking that the care is all the same. THAT IS SO FAR FROM WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED PREVIOUSLY!!! The Abbey is worth every penny! So far, I visit my father with a smile each day rather than worrying what "problem" or lack of care I would discover. The Abbey follows follow protocols, are professional and compassionate, are willing to work with family members to address requests or concerns, have safety procedures in place to ensure your loved ones safety, kind staff who truly enjoy working there (that is hard to find), and most of all acknowledges when the ball was dropped and willing to make changes when necessary. Tameka (Wellness Director) truly listens to your concerns and requests and creates a care plan to best assist your loved one. If you a concern, she is quick to investigate and get back to you. Rukayat (AL Director) is truly compassionate and is so kind during her assessment of your loved one. While she needs to do an assessment to recommend the best fit for your loved one, she does NOT demoralize your loved one! Jill and Norma (Activities Directors) put together a wonderful calendar of events that my father truly enjoys! Raquel (Move In Coordinator) assisted me throughout the move in process and followed through after to make sure everything needed was completed. Ashley (front desk receptionist) allows greets me with a smile and ready to answer my questions and get me answers as I learn the ropes. No place is perfect but The Abbey checks so many boxes which were not provided at our previous location. Most of all, both my father and I enjoy just being part of this community! The level of activities and healthy yummy food here at The Abbey is amazing!!! Each activity I have been to, I see the staff engaging with the residents and the staff leading the activity excited to be there and offer this for the residents! My dad's bubbly spirit has returned after moving to The Abbey! The care staff whom I have seen are ready to help you and point you in the right direction if they cannot. They truly enjoy their job and helping their residents! The administration attend many events and know the residents. The are professional and polite. Sadly many assisted living and memory care facilities take advantage of the elderly who are the most vulnerable and silence their voice or twist events and then blame on the residents lack of memory! Remember most of all, no location is perfect but what I have seen in these past weeks, The Abbey at Westminster Place is BY FAR superior and I look forward to attending the activities which truly occur when they are stated and well attended. The residents I have met so far at The Abbey, greet me with a smile and often ask me to join them or sit down and chat with them. They truly look happy. Selecting The Abbey at Westminster in Houston was a wonderful choice for me. Although you may not be in this area, look at the description of this place for comparison wherever u are. There are several layouts here. I chose one bedroom with 1 & 1/2 baths. Closet is huge. Living area while not what I used to have is lovely and ample. Food that is always an issue is wonderful. There are choices for all meals, substitutions are available, special dietary needs are accommodated and Chef will work with anyone. T he only drawback is that you are likely to gain a bit of weight mostly because the desserts are fantastic. One of the things that mattered to me was how to maintain my physical shape at my age. The exercise choices are unbelievable and will suit whatever you need. There is also Hydrotherapy included in the monthly rent. It's rare to have it and helps me so much. You will have to look up what it is. The moving in process has been as good as it can be. Staff have been so accommodating in this very difficult process. Also, must mention that the other residents here have been kind and welcoming. They all seem to relate to how hard it is to make such an enormous change in these later years. They were always very professional when dealing with her physical and medical care, but also thoughtful, engaged and committed to her emotional wellbeing. She was safe, happy and content in their hands. We never received a call asking us to solve a problem or issue that arose. Instead we would receive a call describing the problem and what had already been done to resolve it. Their care for our mother was remarkable.

The food was excellent, facility super clean, Rehab therapists excellent and overall care good. We did have some challenges with my husband's demanding care at first but overtime we worked it our with the caring Director of Nursing Annie and amazing new Executive Director Michael. There were so many positives at Brazo Towers that I recommend it. The care of a stroke patient such as my husband is very difficult and necessitates a very active family advocate all the time. We were very disappointed in the lack of patient activities. Although a vigorous monthly calendar was posted very little activities occurred during my husband's stay. When we were leaving we saw indication regarding possible improvement in that area as well.

Thought maybe she was just having a bad day but unfortunately she was just as unpleasant yesterday as she was last week. Very condescending and horrible bedside manner, if this place has any others like her I would NOT recommended having your loved ones stay here.
