We moved my mother to Belmont at the end of January 2020. Due to some paperwork snafu, they didn't…read moreseem to know she was moving in. It took several days to get her the proper welcoming. Even after that, it seemed the efforts by staff to get her involved and acclimated to her new living arrangements were minimal. Certainly the COVID lockdown made things difficult for senior living facilities, but we paid extra for bathing assistance for mother, and yet when I would see her I could tell she was wearing the same clothes for days in a row, which meant she wasn't bathing and we even sleeping in the same clothes. Mother was on blood thinners, so it was important to monitor her for potential internal bleeding or at least be aware of any pronounced weakness or paleness. Since I couldn't visit her in person, I had to depend on staff for this. In September she had a fall and then was extremely weak and was sent via ambulance to the ER. She had severe internal bleeding and had to have 4 units of blood transfused. I am amazed that the "nursing" staff at Belmont couldn't have observed this issue sooner. Mother passed away in October, and when we went to clear out her belongings, we discovered that all of her valuable jewelry had been stolen from her room. When we reported this to Belmont, they didn't seem to care much, and pretty much blamed it on us that we let Mother have those things in her room. Nothing that was stolen was ever recovered. So if you send your loved one to Belmont, be sure not to send anything of value with them.

As I live and work in Dallas, many of the details had to be taken care of by phone or email. It was a great comfort to know that they were there to help in any way possible. He is doing much better now, and I attribute a part of this to the Belmont staff. It is a great relief to know that he has all of his meals prepared. (He says the food is usually quite good!) He enjoys the company of other residents and occasionally joins in the community activities they provide. He is provided with transportation to any doctor visits, his laundry is done, and his room is the perfect size for him. Living in a different city, all of these things mean the world to me. The few times that there has been a problem, they get in touch immediately There is no business that hasn't experienced challenges in the past couple of years. The Belmont continues to make improvements and changes for the better and that's what counts. I look forward to my next trip to visit him as they treat family members very well!

But the staff is very warm and caring, the food is very good and there is a variety, the facility is quite clean. There are activities to participate in. When I first came to look it over I was greeted very warmly by Pearlie the sales director. She is a gem and has been a gem ever since. I can't tell you how welcome she made me feel. Maecella the receptionist is also super nice and competent. Hendrick who drives and fixes things is awesome. There are so many nice things this staff has done for me that it would take too long to write it here. Things that I feel are above and beyond. The RAs are also super nice and helpful. Again I can't name them all because there are so many. Then there is the kitchen staff that are awesome too. I notice that the staff always have smiles here so it must be a good place for them to work as well. Now I am looking forward to getting back home soon. But in the meantime let me tell you I have been treated like a queen. In fact I call this my resort LOL. This place has been perfect for me. The food was excellent, facility super clean, Rehab therapists excellent and overall care good. We did have some challenges with my husband's demanding care at first but overtime we worked it our with the caring Director of Nursing Annie and amazing new Executive Director Michael. There were so many positives at Brazo Towers that I recommend it. The care of a stroke patient such as my husband is very difficult and necessitates a very active family advocate all the time. We were very disappointed in the lack of patient activities. Although a vigorous monthly calendar was posted very little activities occurred during my husband's stay. When we were leaving we saw indication regarding possible improvement in that area as well.

We moved my father out after six months of being there. We paid the up charge for enhanced care. He was not given his medication at the times passed necessary. Parkinson's medication's need to be delivered in a very timely manner. This has ramifications on lucidity of the person. On more than one occasion when a family member was there, they were late with his medicine. Sometimes we had to request it after the time had passed. We purchased mattress pads in case of him, soiling his bed, and they never used them. They promised he would be taken out of his room, plenty and given activities to keep him busy. This happened rarely if ever. He was often sitting in his room with the TV blaring, wearing soiled undergarments. While he was in the hospital, we went to go retrieve his things, and the room had not been cleaned or touched. Dirty bedding was left on the floor and the room was a mess with the garbage can full. I almost forgot to mention that they lost most of his wardrobe in the laundry! Instead of someone running and getting him some pants from target or somewhere, they told us we needed to do it and then bring them by. I understand it was up to us to replace the entire Wardrobe and they would reimburse us, but that is ridiculous. The only thing I can say is that the place looks clean and is fancy like a four star hotel. The food is decent. I would not send a loved one here. Be prepared to pay River Oaks prices.. also be prepared for big promises with very few being kept. They are all about the sales pitch.
