Friendly and helpful staff. Pontoon and fishing boats, and padddleboard rentals are available. We rented a pontoon boat but the one we were given wasn't quite what was described to us. It was pretty beat up and old. They were apologetic and offered us a refund instead of taking it out, but we did anyway and made the most of it. We have a 5th wheel so don't need lots of amenities, but there is only one shower in each bathroom at the main store area. It's new and clean, but there is only one. No laundry either. And no trash pickup at the pad sites, so bring lots of large trash bags and plan to carry it to the dumpster each day. The store carries lots of necessities for camper upkeep but minimal food, beverage and sundries. Overall a good experience.

The first night I noticed an earwig on the bed but no big deal. Second night came to the cabin and the ROACHES were on everything and even in the fridge!! Immediately messaged the owner and crickets. No response. Not even a sorry about that. Figured he's older maybe he's sleeping but no. Still no response on Sunday morning nor Monday morning. Hundreds of LITTLE ROACHES hiding in the baseboards of the house. DISGUSTING! Figured maybe he didn't know about the situation but his silence speaks louder than my screams when a ROACH touches me!

The ranch hand had stepped away to attend to other children, leaving our sons unsupervised during the feeding. Our son required urgent medical care, and the doctor advised against gripping activities due to his injured finger. This made it impossible for any of our family to participate in the $350 horseback riding we had paid for. Despite receiving 0% of the service we paid for due to an injury during their supervised activity, the ranch refused a full refund. The owner made multiple false claims in writing, including: 1. Falsely claiming the ranch hand gave repeated safety warnings - Our video evidence clearly shows no ranch hand was present during the feeding and no warnings were given. Falsely claiming they incurred "sunk costs" for horse transportation - Our timestamped photos prove the exact same horses were used by another family at the 11:30am time slot immediately after ours, meaning there were no actual losses. 3. Claiming a 24-hour cancellation policy applied - No cancellation or refund policy was ever provided at the time of booking. This policy was only mentioned after the incident when we requested a refund for a service we physically could not use. After reviewing our video footage, medical documentation, and timestamped photos, PayPal sided with us and ruled in our favor. The pattern here is deeply concerning: an injury occurred during inadequate supervision, the owner responded by making false claims to avoid accountability, and only a formal dispute with extensive evidence resulted in a fair resolution. Other families should know: * Supervision during animal activities may be inadequate * Safety protocols are inconsistent* If something goes wrong, expect blame and false accusations rather than accountability * Document everything - we would not have received our refund without video evidence proving the owner's claims were false We're sharing this to help other families make informed decisions. The ranch hand was kind but clearly overwhelmed supervising multiple groups simultaneously. If you visit, closely supervise your own children during animal encounters regardless of staff presence, and be aware that the owner may not honor refunds even when services cannot be delivered due to on-site injuries. The ranch has nice facilities, but the lack of proper supervision and the owner's willingness to make demonstrably false statements to avoid accountability is unacceptable.

Window unit air conditioners get the job done for they long, hot season we have here. The bedrooms are small but you won't be inside much. Internet isn't great but you should be online much at all. Cell service is good enough to use my hit spot for the one hour I had to work.... The lake is a game-changer compared to other camp and cabin-sites. Though a bit on the pricey end, the place sure delivers with them having your own golf cart and on site petting zoo. Great for couples but even better for families with kids. Owner and Cheri are responsive and friendly. We are planning another trip next year with two other families.

Let's get to why my group and I will not be returning to GS. The camp sites are completely backwards. The electricity is too close to the water hook up. We all know water and electricity don't mix ever Although having sewer was great, it isn't installed very well. They do have a store but no one actually mans it. You have to go find someone to let you in. It's the middle of August in Texas, and they have no ice at all to purchase. We had to leave to get our entire group ice. At $130 for the weekend I'd think we could have some ice. This was also an event weekend for them. I'm not going to mention the event due to them having nothing to do with the issues we had. There was not enough people there to actually say an event took place. I'm gonna move to the biggest problem with GS. The guy that runs it is extremely unprofessional and lacks the maturity of someone that needs to be running a business. Our group gets muddy that's the point right? While my husband and I were riding my radiator on our highlifter over heated (240) we take an electric power washer with us to take car of issues like that. GS does have a place to wash your rig but is literally a low pressure water hose fed through a cinder block. They wasn't going to do the trick so we used our resources to get our rig cooled down and cleaned out. This guy came over to us and did tell us there was a rule, we had to use the hose they provide. He also came over with 3 loose dogs. I told him we had to be towed in and we needed to cool our rig down. I also told him I was afraid of dogs because I've been bit 3 times and once had to go to the hospital. I asked him about the rule regarding dogs needed to be leashed. He got angry and said his dogs weren't going to bite anyone. He left with the dogs. My husband was finishing up spraying out the radiator the guy returns and begins to yell at us. This guy grabs ahold of my husbands had and tries to physically remove the power washer from his hands. There was almost a physical altercation. Below are the pictures of the water produced by my power washer, compared to the water produced by my a/c on the ground. I completely understand the rules, and realize there was a rule broken. However, if you physically attempted to remove something from another persons hands that can and probably will be considered an aggressive act. I also want to mention the couple set up next to us got stuck in the mud. They asked them for help, and they refused. The excuse given, their tractor was broken down. They clearly had other means to help, but it was completely fine not to help them. Someone from our group did go out and assist them. This place is extremely dusty. Most parks we've visited use water trucks to water down the common areas. Which brings me to my power washer, which actually helped use from kicking up the dust in our areas. We will not be returning. This group will stick to the parks that use a bit more professionalism. We wish them the best.

There are several lovely picnic pavilions and a nice size lake on the property. The restroom I went in was clean and tidy and smelled clean. In the atrium of the building they have info on the prison in Huntsville and ag and industry on plaques. There are benches inside the building and the outside has large covered areas. Lots of room to walk around and get rid of driver fatigue.

Plus benches to sit and admire the lake. The lake also has turtles and ducks swimming around in it. There are signs prohibiting swimming-- understandable if disappointing. The trails will lead you to several excellent picnic areas each with a table, trash can, and shaded cover if you'd like to stop and eat or snack. The grounds are well-kept, featuring some lovely rose bushes and other shrubs. We particularly appreciated that the rest stop was tucked away in the woods aways from the highway so you could escape some of the road noise. The building is very nice too, with some educational exhibits inside! Like a mini museum on the side of the highway. Bathrooms are both indoor and outdoor. They were clean and stoked. Looks like there may have been a children's playground at one time but has since been removed? Really the only downside I could see about the place!

To my surprise, I came across a well-designed building with a mini museum of Walker County and clean restrooms. Another set of restrooms can be found outdoors to the side of the building and contains water fountains and vending machines as well. The walkways behind the building stunned me the most; they lead to a beautiful picnic arbor and even a nature trail! Either I didn't pay enough attention the last time I drove to Dallas, or this rest stop has received some serious upgrades in recent years. One day, we'll win against Southwest Airline's lobbying efforts and get the high speed rail we deserve from Houston to Dallas. This rest stop serves as a silver living until then.
