To my surprise, I came across a well-designed building with a mini museum of Walker County and clean restrooms. Another set of restrooms can be found outdoors to the side of the building and contains water fountains and vending machines as well. The walkways behind the building stunned me the most; they lead to a beautiful picnic arbor and even a nature trail! Either I didn't pay enough attention the last time I drove to Dallas, or this rest stop has received some serious upgrades in recent years. One day, we'll win against Southwest Airline's lobbying efforts and get the high speed rail we deserve from Houston to Dallas. This rest stop serves as a silver living until then.

I walked in planning to spend maybe 20 minutes max just to buy a few souvenirs, snacks, and a few things to take home to my kids and family. Shortly after I walked in, I was approached and told I wasn't allowed to be there because I came in a semi truck. I explained that I was only going to be inside for a few minutes to buy a few items, but I was told they would not allow me to purchase anything. I was also told, "Unfortunately truckers are not welcome." Those were his exact words. That was extremely disappointing to hear. Truck drivers are a huge part of what keeps this country moving. We deliver the products businesses sell every single day, including the products sitting on Buc-ee's shelves. To be told we're not welcome and not even allowed to make a purchase is sad and frustrating. Because of this experience, I will never return to Buc-ee's again, not even in my personal vehicle. I'd much rather spend my money at a truck stop or any business that welcomes everyone and appreciates the people who help keep America moving.

Restrooms are always clean. Playground and running space is an essential when stretching your legs with children. Plus they don't sell anything to break your bank. Just a few vending machines. When driving through North Texas, this is the last nice rest stop. You must stop here. There will not be another like it. Take my advice I'm the rest stop Guru.

This is a very nice visitors center and a great place to start your visit to Huntsville, Texas. There is a very large parking lot, the day we visited there was hardly anyone there so we found spaces right up close to the center. The center is a very nicely constructed building with a large deck and walkways that lead down to the trail to the large statue of Sam Houston nearby on the edge of the interstate. The staff inside were very nice, they have all kinds of brochures and handouts on places to visit in Huntsville and things to do. There is an outdoor small amphitheater area where I imagine a talk or lecture might be given on the life of Sam Houston; on the day of our visit nothing was happening but it was early in the morning and it was President's Day.

It's very clean and plenty of parking and a nice place to relax. There's also the local cat down in the bushes so if you have some cat food or something, you can feed him just look for him, I would say his name could be Oscar. I also saw a local raccoon where some of the passer buyers had left food. But it's pretty straightforward here, good place to throw away garbage and to use the bathroom, which was clean. It wasn't too crowded and kind of a nice peaceful oasis away from the busy or noisy traffic.

Both locations have clean restrooms, an indoor museum, and beautiful outdoor walkways. However, this location has larger shaded bench areas and even a playground for the kids. If you'd prefer to take a break away from the elements, they have comfortable seating inside with a built-in outlet too. This is the best rest stop I have come across. Walker County's stop comes in at a close second. I can't wait for the day AmTrak pulls through with a Houston-Dallas high speed rail line, but I appreciate the effort that went into this impressively-designed stop in the meantime.

They have cookies at check in. It was pretty quiet when we were there, which was a relief because of our puppies. Our room on the 4th floor(414) was comfortable. Loved the location. It is close to restaurants, Target, Kroger Walmart, etc and a short drive to Sam Houston University. Lots of grassy area to take the pups and they have poop bag dispensers as well. They have a large parking lot too. Breakfast was the usual hotel offering except for had what looked like sausage patties which didn't look very appealing. Besides that, everything else seemed ok. The waffles are always a winner. We all enjoyed our stay here and will likely stay again if we're ever in the area. Btw, if you're traveling with pets, make sure to call and confirm the pet fee before booking.
