Booked a Flow with Intention class with Yurie for myself and my partner as an option for letting our muscles loose from our usual activity and as a bonding experience - we both loved the class! 85 degrees wasn't as bad as I thought. Yurie was very kind, introducing herself and explaining the class to us before staring. She offered modifications throughout the class and as a first timer we followed well + felt comfortable. We received a follow up after about signing up for classes regularly but I explained we couldn't due to our schedules/distance and this was kindly responded to/respected which we appreciated too! Would definitely do another pop in/if my distance to the studio changes I'd definitely go regularly. The studio was clean and parking was easy too. read more

FYI: If you like to be hygenic and cleanse, the place has NO SHOWERS. So you sweat profusely in the heated studio and exchange sweat with others and puddles on the floor but cannot take a shower afterwards to get the waste off to go on with your day or back to work. read more

This is the best yoga studio in Northern Virginia. As a past Down Dog and Lifetime yogi, I have been looking for a new studio that offered power yoga flow classes with compassion, heart and community. After trying several yoga studios in the area, I can firmly say this is now my home studio! Even though this is a hot yoga studio, the studio is always clean and smelling fresh. Because they use radiant heat from the floors, you don't have to worry about being my the heater vent or having a whooshing noise when the fan kicks on. There is ample space and it never feels crowded. The studio offers special classes, like teen and inversion classes. I love that they practice Baptist's style yoga!! There's always a neighborly feeling - Everyone is so friendly and non-judgmental. It's not a pretentious studio and everyone is at different levels. The front desk staff are super nice. You can ask questions about the poses, items to buy, or memberships and feel comfortable and not pushed. I can't say enough amazing things about this studio! I highly recommend trying it! read more

Easily the most friendly and welcoming yoga studio I have ever been in. All of the instructors are so lovely and really make an effort to get to know you. As a huge introvert, that's so special to me. I also love that they encourage you to meet your body where you are that particular day with zero judgement or sense of competition. I attended several classes at Homegrown Power Yoga during a recent business trip. The studio space is large, open and full of natural light thanks to all of the windows in the front of the space. The space also has a bit of a giant "living room" or "home studio" vibe because of the sitting area which was staged in front of the studio's largest windows. Allison (the owner) mentioned she was aiming for this "home-like" vibe during one of her classes, and I think she completely nailed it. Sometimes when I attend a studio out of town, I feel like an outsider. But I felt like a member of the tribe right away at Homegrown which was wonderful. I also was happy to see men and women of all different colors, shapes, and practice levels in the studio. It truly felt like a judgement free zone. As far as the classes I attended, to me they were reminiscent of Baptiste style classes. This was a bit of a challenge for me because I ordinarily practice vinyasa or Ashtanga. But as I practiced, I noticed that I had a little extra time to explore some postures further and to modify which isn't always the case in vinyasa. I think the classes I attended at Homegrown would suit just about every level. If you are looking for a great place to begin or further your practice, Homegrown is that place. I have practiced yoga on and off for 15 years and the majority of my experience has been vinyasa style with some hot yoga mixed in. I have never taken power yoga classes so I might be a little ignorant with some of my comments below but look forward to learning more and want to provide some food for thought to HPY. Studio: This is a great yoga studio. The students are friendly and the instructors are encouraging and welcoming. The zebra flooring and heating panels (which are used to heat the room instead of forced air) make this yoga studio that much more unique. Furthermore, the natural light makes the space bright and airy - even on a cloudy day. Classes: Classes are very structured and fast-paced. Other studios I've been to go through different poses during warm-up (such as cat-cow) or let students free form and do what their bodies need at that moment This studio starts with child's pose and down dog each time. The structure lasts throughout the class which means there isn't time dedicated to learning or practicing new poses like lizard (which can lead to flying lizard), firefly pose, or swan pose. The flow is quick. In my practice over the years, I have been used to one full inhale or exhale per pose. The flow is so fast here that I am able to get about half an inhale or exhale per pose. Since the flow is fast-paced there isn't time to "settle" into a pose such as warrior 1 the first time you do it. The pose is one breath and there isn't time to make sure your hips are square or adjustment your form. Lastly, instructors don't make corrections or adjustments to people's form from what I have observed. I find small adjustments to be incredibly helpful in poses that require twisting. Overall, I enjoy this studio. Power yoga is a great workout, and there seems to be quite a bit of focus on core work at the end through boat pose and crunch variations which I like. The people seem great too which is a big plus! read more

I really enjoyed this yoga studio. The culture and supportive atmosphere is everything you would look for in a yoga studio. I found myself looking forward to classes every week. The studio was clean and welcoming. If you didn't have your own mat or blocks they were available to borrow. However, I'm giving them 3 stars because the customer service could improve. I had some health complications and was advised by my doctors to stop yoga until I recover. I left several messages for the owner to cancel my subscription but my calls were never returned. I had to eventually go through my credit card company to stop the charges. I wish my relationship with homegrown power yoga didn't end this way because the staff were so nice and I loved their classes. I wanted to make their studio my go to. But I would issue caution before subscribing to auto renewal. read more

Today I took my first yoga class ever with Kristin. I will say this is one of the best things I've invested in. The session itself was challenging but doable. Alison is a tremendous teacher. I've taken yoga classes off and on for about 15 years but none of them invigorated me both physically and mentally in the same way as her classes have. They are truly for any individual, regardless of age or ability. My 9 year old daughter loves the classes as much as I do. Not a fan of this style of yoga. You always start out with very fast paced vinyasas/sun salutations. Like too many. The class is not relaxing at all. It's like boot camp yoga. Not enjoyable and I couldn't go more than once a week because it was too intense. There is only one type of class offered, power yoga. No other slower classes to balance it out. Also there are few class times each day, especially on the weekends so it's not very convenient to different schedules. read more

Very good classes. I am just starting back after a very long hiatus and am not quite as nimble as I would like to be, there is no judgment. Perfect for the beginner or advanced student, the classes are very mixed. This studio is definitely one you need to get to, quickly! The space is big and open but maintains a cozy feeling. Classes are geared for all levels and all bodies. They have all sorts of class times, great package deals, and free community classes if you want to try before you buy (which you definitely will want to!) This is one of the best studios I have practiced in. Everyone, including the owner-instructor, is super nice and inviting. There are no judgments. Alison calls the class very clearly and helps with adjustments. Classes are mixed abilities so I didn't feel out of place not doing the inversions or shoulder stands and balances.
