I'm writing this review to give Wendy (customer service agent) her flowers. I was the real estate agent responsible for purchasing a home warranty plan for my buyers. There was an administrative error between my filling out the relevant details to start the plan and when the claim was made against the plan and a vendor was assigned to fix the problem in the home. Somewhere, the phone number was not properly communicated. Anyhow my buyer was extremely frustrated when the contracted vendor wouldn't call him back. (Actually, they did but they called the wrong number) I needed to bridge the gap in communication and fix whatever frustrations my buyer had with his experiences with Home Guard. I called Rauni at the main customer service line and I explained to my challenges to her. She escalated my call to Wendy and Wendy promptly called me back in some reasonable time frame. Wendy was proactive in tracking the call history and confirming that a vendor has been assigned to fix the problem at the home. She and I had exchanged a few calls to ensure that the necessary steps were taken to fix the problem. She even called me back to provide follow-up on the two service calls. Wendy provided me with excellent service. And I don't want to forget Rauni. She was attentive and helpful as well. Rauni knew who to go to with my challenges. read more

This has been one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. Our AC suffered an obvious hardware failure during extreme 115-degree Arizona heat. Rather than taking the situation seriously, we were bounced from department to department, with each representative giving different answers. Nobody seemed to know what was going on, and no one took ownership of resolving the issue. To make matters worse, several of the representatives we spoke with were defensive, dismissive, and had an unprofessional tone instead of showing empathy or trying to help resolve the situation. Rather than feeling supported, we felt like we were being treated as an inconvenience. They repeatedly delayed our appointments, extending the time we were left without air conditioning. With a one-year-old child in the home, this was far more than just an inconvenience--it was a health and safety concern during 115-degree Arizona weather. A home warranty is supposed to provide peace of mind when major systems fail, but this company did the exact opposite. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this company due to the poor communication, lack of accountability, repeated delays, and disappointing customer service. read more

I know these kind of warranties get a bad rep but HomeGuard is FANTASTIC. They're always wonderful about getting someone out fairly quickly and making fixing whatever problem as easy as possible. I also truly appreciate their honesty where if something isn't covered, they're very clear about why and how they can still help (if they can). Kathy who helped us with three issues today is AMAZING! There was one issue they couldn't help with, but she was kind enough to do some research about what could be causing the problem and help us sort out next steps. My experience with other home warranty companies has been that they hire bad repair companies (with lousy online reviews), cut corners, and take a long time to approve claims. So far HomeGuard has been pretty darn good. The contractors they work with have been great and have 4 or 5 star ratings. Approvals have also been "same day." Really bad Warranty Company. They don't cover what you think they would. They do everything they can to get out of paying out a claim. They make it very difficult for you. The customer service is even worse. Nothing but attitude when you have questions. Just shop around, there are better Warranty Companies out there, trust me. I am so unhappy with this company. I was in the middle of a very busy workday and my water heater had gone out. I called a plumber got them out and they had to replace it on a Friday. Thought to myself I will call Monday and file a claim for reinbrsement. Well come to find out my policy says you have to call them first and since I did not do that they will not cover the costs. I understand I shoud i have read it and known that I guess. But wouldnt it be better for the company to say something like in the future you must call first but will will cover this this time? A very nice person by the name of Kathleen Huntsberry assisted me with my concerns. She was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and guided me in the right direction to help me resolve this issue. She filed a claim for me immediately, and a technician contacted me the same day to schedule an appointment. I am very satisfied and happy with the level of professional service I received. I've had HGHW from 8/2024 to the current day. I had a leak from the pipes of my rental home back in March 2025 that my policy should have covered. They denied my claim, and in the process, because of the delay in getting the leak fixed, I lost my tenant. Kathleen Huntsberry was not helpful; she was the first point of contact & the plumbing vendor she dispatched & she were incorrect in not covering my claim. I had a better experience with SueAnn Canfield and Janette Parker; they were much nicer - however they're part of the renewal of policy team, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. We'll see how it goes as I go month to month with this company moving forward. If they continue to deny my claims against issues that are clearly part of my policy, like they did in March, I plan to make a report to the California Department of Insurance (CDI) Update 8/5/2025: My vendor did call you guys. I submitted a claim for a plumber and was not contacted over a week even after multiple attempts to contact the plumber myself. I reached out to HGHW to change plumbers and they changed it to a general contractor/HVAC guy. Horrible!!! They are a fraud and a scam, do NOT get their service!! We got their warranty and EVERY SINGLE claim we've made, gets denied. We spoke to their representative to try to appeal and they said it's "protocol" to deny each claim, even after we followed each step for each claim and even used their preferred vendors. We tried to speak to a supervisor and the representative did not allow that. Horrible service. Do not recommend. read more

Kathy Huntsberry denied my claim without speaking with me first. My AC capacitor broke and needed to be replaced. I used HomeGuard's recommended vendor Bill Kutz heating and air to do the repairs. Mind you they did prior repairs as well. I also paid the $90.00 deductible and the claim was still auto denied. Will I get a refund? Who knows, they haven't spoken with me. read more

My husband called a couple weeks ago to file a claim, vendor came out to assess property, then puts in his report to get approval. Stacey Rife leaves us a message regarding what will be covered. I called Homeguard left a message for Stacey, called back and asked to speak with Kathy Huntsberry, due to NO reply from Stacey. When she got on the line I was taken back by her response and tone, not very friendly. I felt like she was on the defense by my ???. She stated at one point in our conversation "that their was no reason why she wouldn't trust the vendor on his quote." Which I did go outside and found them to be almost $1000 dollars cheaper . Today my husband called back in regards to the status of the work order for the shower that could not be fixed on 3/31/25 & another approval was needed per the technician. When he got someone on the phone it happened to be Kathy Huntsberry, he had questions regarding incomplete service, policy coverages, and an invoice that was needed for a cash out, but he was unable to address the cash out concern due to her hanging up on him. I was sitting next to my husband listening to her be very unprofessional, rude, loud, having her own personal opinion on what will be approved or not, instead of her letting the department of authorization determine & review the follow up report that was being sent from the vendor. When we bought our house, our realtor was smart and kind enough to also purchase a HGHW plan for us to help us out with our home for the first year. Turns out this was the best thing! Within the first year, we had to replace some appliances and had some minor electrical and plumbing issues. HGHW was great. They helped with finding appropriate technicians do the work in a timely manner. I also specifically want to give a shout out to HGHW employee, Kathleen H., who recently helped secure a specific plumber I wanted to work with for some work. She was prompt and effective, what more can you ask for! In short, for all you, tldr people out there - Get HGHW and ask for Kathleen H when you need additional help. read more

I've had to call about once a year and have been a customer for 5 or 6 years now. For the most part they've covered what I need. So the program seems to work for me and be worth the money. This time a few leaks sprung underneath my kitchen sink. They sent a plumber out and he could fix what he could but then I had issue that wasn't covered. I get it. I had to wait on report to see what could be done. I was freaking out a little bit on the inside as the plumber called it a ticking time bomb! I emailed Kathy Huntsberry who made my initial request and she was so responsive. I think she knew my panic! She emailed the company and asked to get that report asap so we could figure things out. She got it quicker than expected and gave me a call. She was so sweet and understood my concern for moving things along. I really appreciated her.
