I bought several items from Homenclature and had it in mind to purchase a fourth. Merchandise is unique and although some of it is pricey there are affordable pieces. However, customer service is definitely not one of their strongholds. I bought a bed. The hardware to put the bed together was missing. I was in a time sensitive situation and they were not open, so I bought hardware to assemble the bed. It was not my fault that they misplaced the hardware or neglected to have it attached to the bed so I sought a refund for my purchase. I presented them with a receipt for a refund and received a hard NO! Customer service determines where I spend my money NOT ARROGANT INDIFFERENCE! Awesome! I love this store! This is not your typical gently used hodgepodge of a place. The main part of the store, located in the strip mall by Cheers on 45th, is broken up into color coded rooms. So if you're looking for something blue, you can actually go to a specific room to browse first. Each of these rooms is also designed to tie an actual room together. Walling hangings, bedding or dining room furniture, end tables with candle sticks. Nicely done. I purchased a set of matching chairs and a long sofa table. Amanda, the owner, and a worker came and delivered it all into my condo. I can't wait to start on my bedroom and get her to help me decorate it! read more

Last time I went there, the saleswomen was judgmental and passive aggressive. She implied that we couldn't afford a certain item, was not helpful, and then proceeded to use cheesy sales tactics, "This won't last long at these prices..."K...thanks. I've also noticed that when I go alone, I get ignored by salespeople but when I'm with my husband they suddenly pay attention to me. A lot of their furniture is ridiculously ornate or modern in a bad way. A hidden jem tucked away in Munster, Homenclature is my lunchtime addiction (it's only 5 minutes from my office = dangerous). They have new and used furniture, home decor, gifts, and enough items to feast your eyes upon to send your mind racing. For example, I picked up a solid cherry Johm M. Smith dresser with super deep/tall drawers in excellent condition for $300 that actually fits adult clothes!!! It's worth a visit for sure. read more

I would frequently visit the Homenclature store when it was in Munster, and I have been to the one in Velpo at least 3 times. I'll tell you how they survive Debbie, it's because of the way they treat their customers, they let them browse their store without be pesky! I hate when I walk in a store and they are right on top of you with a "Can I Help You"! That being said, I would say that they DO have very much of a clue as on how to how to treat their customers. Beware of this furniture store! I ordered a piece of furniture from the Carmel location and paid for 1/2 up front and the balance was due on pick up and was to be several months out. I hadn't received any updates and stopped by to inquire when it would be ready. The store had a sign up that they had permanently closed. I was concerned that I may have lost my money, but fortunately they were still operating in Valpo. To make a long story short - when I got the call that my piece was ready for pick up - they gave me 1 days notice and a 2 hour window to arrange for a delivery company to pick up. I scrambled to find someone as the piece was very heavy and quite large. I had to pay extra for the last minute nature. The morning that I was notified that I had to pick up the piece - I texted the employee to verify that the 12-2 window was still a go and they said yes. I arrived at the store at 12 and there was nobody there. I texted the employee and they said that their drivers were delayed but would be there by 12:30. I told them that I was paying by the hour and requested some sort of credit due to their miscommunication although I had reached out the morning of to confirm. Not only did they not give me any credit they simply stopped answering my calls or texts. This is simply not the type of service you would expect for a higher end furniture store. I believe they did not care because they already had my money and were pulling out of the market. read more

I can't figure out how this place sells anything. They have beautiful pieces but the owners don't have the slightest clue how to sell. They are so incredibly unhelpful that you truly have to wonder how they survive. They really need to go hang out in the back office and hire some actual sales people. Is is really so sad when you see a business that has such potential and is run into the ground by owners that don't have a clue. They may get a few wholesale buyers that won't care how obnoxious the owners are or maybe few local buyers but they will never sell to the other 99% of the world until they hire some people that understand how to work with customers. Don't bother to go there unless you want to be talked down too and are prepared to handle every aspect of the sale and delivery yourself. And whatever you do don't ask them to follow up with you on anything you will never hear from them. I see by their response that they have such a high opinion of themselves that is just the problem. The selection is incredible, from the unique pieces on the floor to the custom order options! The pricing is incredible, the options are endless. ***BUYER BEWARE*** I had the WORST shopping experience imaginable with Homenclature. The items were posted on Ebay, contacted the business, spoke to the owner, she told me that I did not need to purchase through Ebay. I made a few thousand $$$$ purchase over the phone and then came the delivery mess. Once the business received my money, it all went downhill. Please save yourself and spend your money somewhere else. There is no customer service from the owner or her staff, they are untruthful about facts. Everything could have been handled with contact from the business and proper customer service!!! Their actions were very dishonest and irresponsible in their treatment of me as a customer. Firstly, I paid extra for white glove delivery in my home. The delivery men made an attempt, ripped the couch, and then told me that it did not fit my door. Maybe I should remove the door frame. He left the couches outside and went on his way. Oh,and all of a sudden the delivery man said I did not actually pay for the white glove delivery he was just doing me a favor, after he rushed through the delivery and ripped my couch!!! I made my research, looked at the dimensions of the sofas, measured my door to make sure that the sofas would fit. My husband had to call his friend to help them and in no time they got the sofas through our door and inside my home. If my door was too small how did my husband and his friend get it inside the house that same day and so quickly too. The delivery man himself started telling me that the owner had not paid them for the extra service. He started covering himself by bad mouthing the business and the owner. The he told me that I should get my money back from the business because it was unfair. I made a called and emailed the owner to make a complaint. She did not make any attempt to contact me in any way. Finally I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in June 2018. She finally responded now in August after more than 6 weeks, the BBB had made several attempts to get a response and they were finally going to close the case as "unanswered by Business". She made a lame attempt at a response with text and a copy of a receipt with for just one of the couches showing a lesser amount for the shipping. This was an unintelligent attempt because she failed to release that when someone pays with a debit card, their are bank records. Parts of the text she provided bolster my claim because it shows that I paid hundreds of dollars in shipping and extra for delivery inside my home. The text between her and her delivery staff revealed that she was in full support of their actions and using very derogatory language describing me. Plus false claims from the delivery man to cover himself. They were lazy delivery men who complained that they were tired and had a long drive ahead of them. Their behavior was unbelievable all with the backing of the owner because she was in communication with then the whole time. Through the text they submitted to the BBB the delivery man told the owner that I paid $2000.00 for delivery. Who pays $2000 for delivery of sofas??? They told very bold lies. I wonder how long it would take the business to respond this time and what details of accounts they will falsify this time. read more
