I know mommas complain about grass stains and dirt stains. But it's better than blood stains. Kids get rough. Kids fall down. Black top is unforgiving. There could be traumatic brain injuries and worse. I know the playground doubles as a parking lot for mass and that's where a lot of funds come in but regardless. Total insanity starts in the summer. They have softball leagues playing on the hard black top. Not cabbage ball. Softball. With aluminum bats and gloves. So you have a relatively hard ball coming off a metal bat bouncing off black top. Players diving and sliding on black top. That's a recipe for disaster. If a kid falls on his/her knees that's it. A bum knee for decades and knee replacement eventually. Believe it. It would be idea if the school laid down a layer of a foot or two of soil and grow grass. Sure mommas won't like the grass stains and church goers won't like parking on often times wet grass but still. It's a lot better than leaving your kids running around and falling down on hard blacktop.

The confidence building and leadership skills she has gained as well as the camaraderie among classmates is inspirational. I have watched the Honor Code and student government in play and am witnessing this become part of my daughter's moral compass. McGehee is so much more than a place to get an education. It's an experience and it's been great to watch my daughter grow into a confident, intelligent young woman. McGehee is as good as it gets!

When members of the community call the administration to address serious concerns about the behavior of some students, it feels like our voices are being ignored. Issues like this should never be brushed aside or dismissed. Schools are supposed to be places where respect, accountability, and leadership are taught. The administration needs to do better by listening to the community, addressing these problems directly, and making it clear that racist behavior will not be tolerated. Silence or inaction only damages trust with the community you serve.

This daycare center is absolutely HORRID. There isn't enough food for the children staying there…read more(unless it's an infant, in which the parent brings the formula), the children don't get changed and are forced to take three hour naps. When asked for juice or water, they are refused. There are no activities or fun things to do with the kids. Employees only have the children seated and are told to 'shut up' and watch TV. Outside time is minimal and they can have up to 35 kids out in the rusty rug-covered dirt playground with only one supervisor attending to the children. Children are constantly yelled at and never learn a thing. The teacher: student ratio is absurd. The daycare center refuses to hire any more employees and when State Licensing visits, are lying about certain employees who don't have their background checked just because the owner doesn't want to spend the money. There are no snacks for the children. According to the list of activities for the day, the children are to receive a snack before lunch, a snack after nap, and a snack before the child is picked up. Their snacks consist of 2 (two) vanilla wafer cookies or half of a graham cracker. This, I believe, is not sufficient enough for the kids, especially for the fact being that there is not enough food during lunchtime for the kids. During lunch, the kids are asked who does and doesn't want to eat. Those who don't want to eat don't get food. For those who don't finish their food, the food is transferred onto another plate into The kitchen and is given to the next child. The three buildings are infested with termites, roaches and ants. Cheap spray is being used to treat the buildings. It obviously isn't working. For your child's safety, please refrain from signing up to this daycare. The owner and director are never there and only talk you up to keep you from taking your child out.

Morris Jeff Community School (MJCS) is the fulfillment of that vision. In Fall 2010 the school opened its doors on Poydras Street as one of the most racially and economically diverse open-access public schools in the history of New Orleans with 185 Pre-K through 2nd grade students. Fast forward to 2021, and MJCS now has over 1400 students situated on 3 separate campuses (elementary, middle & high schools). The school(s) are named after Morris F.X. Jeff Sr, who was a civic leader and pioneer in educational and recreational opportunities for kids in New Orleans. My son has gone to MJCS since Pre-K 4 and is now in the 4th grade. I think 2 years ago, I would have given the school a 4 star review, but as of lately, the growing pains of the school, in my opinion, have created a few concerns for me as a parent. She sat down with my daughter for an hour, and reviewed with her Math and other subjects she was struggling with. After only one session, my daughter's grades went up to a C average at the end of the semester. She had Fs before. All of her individual class grades went up. I cannot recommend this company enough.
