Overall, I've had consistently good experiences at this aquatic center. The facility is fairly clean, and I've never encountered the strong pool or locker room odors that can sometimes be an issue at swim spaces. The water temperature has been comfortable and well-balanced on most visits--perfect for lap swimming, with only one day that felt slightly chilly (not bothersome for me). The staff are calm, approachable, and hospitable, which helps create a relaxed and welcoming environment. I also appreciate that they provide a few pieces of equipment like the tombstone-shaped paddle boards and pool weights, which add variety to a workout. One thing to be aware of is that you'll want to bring your own personal hygiene items--there also aren't wipes for cleaning lockers nor are locks provided. It might be helpful if the center gave clearer guidance on what to bring so guests can come prepared. The atmosphere is generally peaceful, though if the boombox-style aerobics class isn't your preference, you'll want to check the schedule ahead of time. Really nice aquatic center in Chapel Hill! I took the bus here from my hotel near the university, it was a free bus ride and quick (plus a short walk). The aquatic center has great locker rooms; they are clean, spacious, and have good shower facilities...bring your own lock. The pool itself is huge (there's actually two pools, but just one for laps), I had no problem getting a lane to myself. All in all, this is a wonderful public aquatic center! read more

Visited this location twice the past week to utilize the recreation pool. It's clean, well maintained, and the pool temp was 85 degrees. I really appreciated how the place did not smell like chlorine and my skin was not itchy once out of the pool. This is a nice location and I enjoyed my visit. read more

The lifeguards are very rude. One lifeguard would always yell at kids. He would blow on his whistle then yell "ay don't do that" when the kids are just having fun, mind you they are about 7 or 6 year olds. To go into the "deep side" which is only 6ft you would have to do a swim test, and the same lifeguard again would just stare at you expecting you to know what the swim test is. I need to do cardio to be strong for upcoming orthopedic surgery- the buoyancy of swimming is best for this due to my broken ankle, according to my physical therapist. I tried out Homestead Aquatic Center yesterday as they have a remote-operated lift chair to transfer to from my wheelchair in order to be placed into the furthest lap pool lane beside the big window with trees outside (so lovely!) Upon arrival, I explained my needs to the receptionist who was very friendly and helpful, noting "You need to speak to James." She contacted him. James arrived in a jiffy and showed me how to use the lift chair. He then went the extra mile and asked the coaches of the swim team to move down one lane since I am unable to put pressure on my broken ankle to walk in the pool to another lane. How kind of James and the coaches to accommodate my needs! I have studied the lap pool schedule and will be coming from now on when the swim team is not there practicing but I will always remember the kindness I was shown yesterday. Some lap pools feel freezing to me. This one was not- it is 81 degrees, according to James. I look forward to swimming again at Homestead Aquatic Center and I highly recommend this aquatic center to others! Pam Carter read more

I would not recommend this pool if you have disabilities, the lifeguards do not care and are not compassionate. I cannot tread water because I cannot move my right arm. The lap pool is nine feet deep and I cannot safely swim in it. I went to use a kickboard to swim laps in the pool with shallow lanes. A lifeguard made me give her back the kickboard and would not allow me to use it the smaller pool. She said I can only use the kickboard in the deep lap pool. I mentioned to her about my immobility, but she did not care. The staff here lack compassion for the disabled. I suggest the facility become more inclusive and accommodate those with disabilities into their policies. read more

The Homestead Aquatic center is a really top notch swimming facility. I mean, ten lanes of lap swimming available? Pretty awesome! They also have a completely separate program pool suitable for the family and kids of all ages that slopes from 0 feet to 3 feet and then from 3 feet to 6 feet. They opened in 2009 and are located next to Homestead Park. Everything looks pretty new - nice facilities, showers, family changing rooms, etc. They seem to even have room that can be reserved/rented for kids birthday parties. For the pool, you can either pay as you go or buy a pass (non-county residents pay extra). The 20-visit swim pass is good value running from $0.55/visit for 5 and under to about $2.25/visit for adults. Hours and weekly schdule are posted online. Occasionally there are lessons or swim meets that use up some or all of the pool, so it is best to check the schedule. read more

Love, love, love the HAC!! Before baby, the husband and I used to go swim laps there relatively frequently after buying a 20 session pass for $40 bucks. I most recently signed up for the Parent/Infant Swim and Water Safety class. I was completely satisfied. It was a good sized group of moms, dads and little ones and the instructor was sweet and knowledgeable. The facilities are pretty clean for the most part. My favorite part, though, are the giant windows facing out to the woods that surround the building. It is just such a lovely experience swimming laps or blowing bubbles and holding my little guy while he floats and bobs in the water with the scenery of the trees stretching tall to the blue or gray sky outside. I can't wait to get back there to swim some more laps for myself, but I'm excited to, in the mean time, have a great place to watch my li'l guy make some watery memories for himself! read more

While the facility is above average, the staff (instructors and life guards) really need better training when it comes to communicating with the public. Enforcing the rules of the facility is something that is to be expected, but the staff here tends to overstep their bounds when it comes to voicing their opinions. As an educator of 20+ years and as a parent, my exoerience in working with children and keeping them safe far exceeds that of most of the staff members at the pool combined. When I pay to use the facility and am carefully watching over my son's every move, I should not be bothered by a an employee on a power trip. If children are with their parents in the pool, abiding by the rules, then employees here need to remember their role. read more

As other posters have stated, the staff at this aquatics center is very rude, gruff, and discourteous. To ask a question means you have to wait until they are finished doing whatever....could be chatting with a friend or imputting some "vital" information in their computer system (which, btw, can take up to 10 minutes). You are never acknowledged and told how long their current task will take. They make a customer feel like they are invisible, just left standing there like an idiot. Forget about asking about pricing or hours. They push an outdated schedule in front of you and then make you wait to pay. I have walked off in frustration several times until I decided "No More" and just left. They can and should do better. The Orange County Parks and Recreaction Dept should be ashamed. read more

I am giving the 3 star rating not for the pool facilities - as they were extremely good - the 3 star rating is (and in fact l feel a 0 star rating is needed) for the attitude of the person on reception on Sunday December 24th. We had called ahead to be told the pool would be open at 12 noon it wasn't it opened at 12:30pm, we were not alone is thinking this was the opening time as there were others waiting as well. The woman on reception then opened the doors in a very begrudging manner to say the least and was positively rude to the people waiting to go in. 'Stand in line and wait for me' not particularly welcoming, l also overheard her later speaking to people coming in - charm school might help!! The older life guard was not particularly pleasant either! We were told that my grand daughter could use the diving block in her lane by another life guard - she is practising for a swim team competition - later on she went to practise again and the older life guard yelled at her for doing so. My daughter spoke to him and told him that she had been given permission to do this and he shouted that he 'was removing the privilege'. This lifeguard was also seen to physically grab a 3/4 year old boy who in fairness had been running but yelling and grabbing people/children in particular is not appropriate. As a visitor to the pool l was somewhat taken aback by the attitude portrayed - most 'unAmerican - although of course there is no tipping involved so maybe that has something to do with it. If they don't like being there they should find a job elsewhere! They need to realise the customer helps pay their wages!! read more
